What I've done is switched off the icons for the filenames and reduced the 
width of the document list, and that's fairly close to what I wanted. I 
usually have about a 50-100 random files open at a time and need to see the 
document list when I'm switching between files. Actually, a nice feature 
might be an auto show-hide for the document list (as per the macOS dock 
control) whenever the cursor is near the left-edge of the screen? Not sure 
how viable that is or how seamlessly it could be integrated, it's just a 
thought.

You might find it useful to simply hide the sidebar all the time, and use the 
popup menu in the navigation bar to change documents (or "Previous 
Document/Next Document", or select files by name using "Commands" on the Go 
menu).

Hello Rich,

Thank you for your reply. I understand your point about the document list 
and why it was changed. I preferred the original way because (for me) it 
works better on a smaller screen and I have to keep repositioning my 
sight-line as I'm expecting the line numbers and text to start from the 
extreme left of the screen, as with a command line text editor. It is also 
easier to visually "ignore" the document list if it's over to the 
right-hand side so I don't get distracted by it.

Thank you also for your suggestion for permanently disabling the synchro 
scrolling. I am still getting used to the new version and did not really 
see that option or know what it did.

Thank you very much for your time and efforts on BBedit. It is still the 
best editor on a Mac after 25+ years!

The left-hand document list was introduced in BBEdit 10.0 (July, 2011), and it 
is fixed in the left side of the window. (This is a longstanding practice on 
macOS.)

If you turn off Synchro Scrolling in the Differences window and then use "Save 
Default Differences Window" from the Window menu, this (and other properties) 
will apply to subsequently created differences window.

Is it possible to reposition the sidebar back to the right side of screen?

As per my topic, is it possible to change the sidebar position to the 
right-hand side of the screen, as per earlier versions? I have used BBEdit 
for a long time and after upgrading about 3 months when I got given my new 
work machine I still cannot get used to it.

Also, is it possible to have the synchro scrolling disabled by default? I 
often have to refactor code by moving it between scripts that are 
functionally different, and the easiest way to do this is by comparing the 
two scripts side-by-side, but with the synchro scrolling enabled it is very 
easy to lose my place in the scripts. I know I can switch it off using the 
menu option, but I will never want this enabled so I have to remember to 
disable it every time.

I looked on the expert options page but I couldn't see any information 
related to either of these requests.
