The ARM versions of Synology in this respect have a similar
architecture as the Pi. I actually did the manual install of Ralphys
armhf binaries and it worked on my Synology DS216Play which is ARMv7l
codename Monaco (whereas the one from settings plugin did not).
No guarantee, but it could be worth a try. You could also try using the
C3PO plugin instead.
On the other hand, playing DSD64 natively isn't so bad after
all..[emoji12]

Michael,

I found that both the DSDPlayer Plugin and C-3PO invoke sox to play or
transcode DSD.

However, only the ‘mansr’ fork (linked above) seems to be able to do
that, at least on an ARM platform.

See also my inquiry and Marco C ‘s reply in his thread: C-3PO plugin, a
transcoding helper.

@mherger Michael, would it be possible to update the included version of
SOX to a newer one that is capable of DSD.

Lots of people have been asking but fail to get DSD playback via LMS due
to lack of support by the old and not anymore updated SOX Version, e.g.
on our ARM v7 Synology NAS.

Mansr sox, regularly updated:

You will probably need a custom compiled sox for this platform. Go to
AudioDigitale.eu they explain how to do it. Other alternative is to get
an RPi, install LMS on the Pi and use the NAS only for the storage of
the files.

There are tools available in the net and after converting you can
properly maintain the tags for your files.

IMHO could be an issue with convert.conf or custom-convert.conf. Did you
maybe install a Plugin in LMS or fiddle with advanced settings File
Types in LMS three days ago?

If not, then why don’t you have this fixed by the SOTM support. If still
in warranty.. LMS and DSD are committed features of this box.

Oh YES this does work on ARM, in my case armv7l with DS2016play's
STiH412 processor.
I'm aware this is not ideal because this thing has a built-in
floating-point unit which I'm probably not using but this is OK for now
:)
I'm using the static library armv5el binary.

Thank you Ralphy

PS: I didn't find documentation for the Settings of the DSDPlayer Plugin
... any hints?

Hello Simone,

don't worry about the language, everything is totally understandable,
the bigger problem is that my knowledge in Linux development is very
limited.

Nevertheless, finally, after I downloaded the sources for libmad library
and compiled it, I could successfully compile sox itself, on my ARMv7
NAS (Synology DS2016play), as you suggested. :)

My self-compiled sox is working fine now for playing FLAC or MP3, but
yet it doesn't transcode any of my DSD files. I'm using C-3PO to control
the playback. I've had results varying with settings, but all I get is
seeing the play time progressing or hearing only noise.

This is what ldd says:

Code:

root@DiskStation:/opt/bin# ldd sox
  libsox.so.3 => /opt/lib/libsox.so.3 (0x76ddb000)
  libpng16.so.16 => /opt/lib/libpng16.so.16 (0x76da3000)
  libz.so.1 => /opt/lib/libz.so.1 (0x76d81000)
  libFLAC.so.8 => /opt/lib/libFLAC.so.8 (0x76d1a000)
  libmad.so.0 => /opt/lib/libmad.so.0 (0x76cf5000)
  libmp3lame.so.0 => /opt/lib/libmp3lame.so.0 (0x76c77000)
  libm.so.6 => /opt/lib/libm.so.6 (0x76bc3000)
  libssp.so.0 => /opt/lib/libssp.so.0 (0x76bb1000)
  libgcc_s.so.1 => /opt/lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0x76b96000)
  libc.so.6 => /opt/lib/libc.so.6 (0x76a5a000)
  /opt/lib/ld-linux.so.3 (0x76ed9000)

This is what C-3PO tells me for a .dsf file to be transferred to FLAC:
Trasformed by C-3PO in:

"/opt/bin/sox" -q -t dsf
"/volume1/music/HOME/DSD/CHANNELCLASSICS/11/stereo/19503/04_19503_2ch.dsf"
-t flac -C 5 -b 24 --buffer 8192 - lowpass -1 22000 gain -h rate -m -I
-b 90.7 -f 44100

When I execute sox with these parameters in SSH, I only get weird
characters instead of meaningful error message.
I will head over to Audiodigitale.eu and try to find out more on the
configuration.

Do you haven an idea what could be the cause? How could I activate the
Log file? :confused:

I'm currently looking into it and will get back to you asap.
Maybe two questions of more general interest for this audience; what
defines if we need to compile your modified SOX ourselves or should be
able to use the provided versions?
Which file/s exactly do we need to replace, I replaced the sox
executable.. after this the NAS refused to play any music file at all..
should I look for sox.so instead?
Sorry if these questions are dumb, I'm still a beginner when it comes to
Linux underlyings.

thanks a lot, Gerhard

Marco, I am also trying to replace SOX, but the version
sox-dsd-linux-gnu-amd64 from your site does not run on my NAS (Synology

Does it mean I need to compile it myself on the NAS? If so, do I need to
