just that ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9.2: updated SQLite module v1.58

2018-09-17 Thread Mnyb

Hey some numbers but my install is bit unusual .

In an attempt to learn to admin ESXi and learn to use VM'si decided to
have VM's as servers .(I started use a lot of VMWare at work)

So my LMS server is an Linux mint 18 .

And the "NAS" containing the files is a Openmediavault VM on the same
machine.
And there is another "NAS" of the same kind running for personall
backups .

It's an Intel NUC with this CPU
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6260U CPU @ 1.80GHz
32GB of memory .

The ESXi OS is running on an M2. SSD and the LMS WM is hosted on the M2
to but the NAS'es are hosted on and internal normal SSD .
The actual files are on extenal USB2 drives.

This will probably be simplified :) when i get to it

Hers is the results.

There is for example an image galleri plugin that can be abused .
( the reziser is bit sensitive it crashes quite easilly espiciallly on
Windows ? )

Check that your settings are as they should be , that LMS only scans the
floders you intendent for it to Scan .

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS 7.9 and DSD

2017-04-24 Thread Mnyb

Yes LMS doe not handle multichannel .

And the Touch does not have hdmi , i know that spdiff and toslink only
Handles ac3 or dts coded multichannel not discrete multichannel, hdmi
does that . Don't know if any multichannel USB soundcard could be used (
in theory ).

Squeezplay ( the native player in Touch ) and Squeezelite is also 2
channel .

So LMS is 2 channel probaly not trivial to fix , A new multichannel
software player for LMS must be developed that's not trivial either ?
Possibly for use on a raspberry pi who has hdmi .

Original squeezebox hardware is probably never going to work .

If it where easy someone would have done it already. I would love such a
feature for my DVDA's

It's a good point I thought everybody knew that it was "best practice"
to deselect pictures and videos for a trouble free scan I've been doing
that for years . Not many are actually using the features and plugins it
once was implemented for and is suspect that many recent cases of
scanning problems could be avoided .

Use SSH via some terminal or if you use windows some terminal emulator
like putty . And do it the old fashion way via command line . ( you can
use search functions there to )

But you need some admin password to your NAS and probably some setting
to gain terminal acess .

Suggestions try the Touch players directly on mysb.com for Spotify .

Check that the controll part of players is controlling it's own player ,
hopefully you named them diffrently so that you can se which one you
pick on the Touch select player menu ? ( hint while controlling another
player from the Touch also set a different background idealy the same as
that other players uses so that you see this from 5 meters away ).

Then the switch to mysb.com and back migth work more smoothly ?

Booth players are regognised on your mysb.com account ?

Try without sync enable at one player at the time ?

Yes SPH gives you playback on old squeezeboxes and Squeezelite but you
navigate with the oficial plugin and SPH handles playback . ( it's the
playback part of triodes plugin who is deprecated and does not work so
good anymore , but playback works )

I have very few DSf files that's my use of this plugin . You seems to
have tried this more than me.

Is DFF files supported ? Or are we advised to convert those to DSF .

Afaik DFF does not support tags ? So,it's pretty useless ? DSF can be
tagged .

If you really have sparc cpu aka very old Ready NAS DUO this wont help
audiscan 0.95 helps the scanner identify DSD files etc .

But the DSD plugin may want to run transcoders to some players or
package the files as DoP for some players ? will this work on sparc cpu
I dont think soo.
Can you run normal samplerate conversion like 24/192 to 24/48 for an
older player ? are SoX included and running ?

[SlimDevices: Beta] Boom unpausing itself and starting itself

2017-01-17 Thread Mnyb

I'm on recent 7.9 .

This morning my Boom decided to not stay paused "off" did help either it
just continued it's playlist . had to clear the playlist

This is one of the old unsolved mysteries of slimproto :) the players
can do this it's been known for decades now.

But before cuing up this album I had tried to use Shairtunes2W ?

Wonder if some interaction with plugins can linger in the background ?
If that helps anyone getting a clue .

Aha ok then its something diffent and i actually dont know .

Legacy Squeezeboxes an SB2 and SB3/Classic is the same thing . In the
same "familly" you have boom Transporter and squeezeboxreciver (kind of
a SB2 without screen ) . So all these depends on the same protocoll .
The really old stuff Slimp3 or SB1 still suported but you can turn it
off optinally .

Re clearing cache no *nix install has that , you delete the cache files
manually . use SSH to the NAS and clear out the *.dB files in the cache
directory , the path is avaible in the information page in LMS settings
.

Legacy models are still suported .

But your migth not be ? Maybe you should find or create a tread with
your brand and model of NAS ?

7.9

Then its actually better than ever :) is it something else that goes
wrong on windows then ?

If you use file names and not tags ?

Btw i haved done total rescan for while now some years ago it was a
common thing to have to do , so it is better than ever .

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Scanner seems NOT to be case sensitiv in every routine?

2016-11-12 Thread Mnyb

One way to put it is if you .

*Scanned all your files at once .

*added one album at time and incrementaly scanned until your finished .

* some mix of the above and then remove stuff tweak it and add again .

If you not into to how computing stuff works ( I do some industrial
controller Stuff , but no real coding ) you would naively expect that
you ended up with an identical dB however you did it ? I thinks it's an
valid expectation.
Now LMS does not really work like that . Some optimisation is done
between speed and precision ?

I would not mind if the incremental scan was 1/2 it's current speed if
some more "cleanup" or what scan does when removing stale artist and
genres et al was done .

It seems like add new works just fine , its the changed part that could
be better ?

I think our friend Frank has hit another corner case he has one of the
largest windows based LMS systems around and seems to grow and change
the library vigorously:) both fixing tags and adding stuff .

Been there to when I did a large tag overhaul some years ago .
You don't notice much of this when library is more stable and you simply
add a new album now and then .

2016-11-09 Thread Mnyb

And why is the file names important ? it's the tagging thats important
.Do you resort to untagged files and have LMS guesing artist etc from
the file names ?

Another case of case sentive vs not case sensitive are *.cue files .LMS

Embedded art is used if it exists , the image files is used when there
is no embedded art .
I prefer to embedd the correct art directly in to the files . But I do

Yes and it also deletes the playlist files themselves !

But if your adding and removing or fixing your playlists with external
aplications or manually . The rescans should remove lists that don’t
exists any more.

The work around as stated in the bug report is to also delete list in
the web-UI after you removed them otherwise or just remove them via the
web-UI in the first place .

But it is a real bug and an incosistency . The partial scans do fix and
change existing playlists , but just don’t do the removal of deleted
ones all other aspects of the rescan seems to work .

Its one of those small nigling things , my opinion is that the bugs
needs fixing , me and one other guy :) there is a whopping 2 votes on
the bug so my guess is that it wont be fixed .

Similar here I add stuff do new and changed .

But some users of dB heavy plugins like the ones Erland provides have
much longer rescan times . And full text search and if you use to plugin
to get additional artwork , you can have rather long rescan times .

And actually with kudos to Michael . I rarely find the need to do
complete rescans anymore , in the past it was a fix all when the library
started to look weird , but my system works fine and I have only done
partial scans for the whole of 2015 and possible longer ? I did it with
the initial SmartMix realease , to get my lib matched to echoesnest. And
I add content every week .

Just some of the problems solved by flac files is good error correction
and well supported tags .

With good tags you can ditch the folder browse mode .

The benefit is that file name and tag can be different . So you can use
OS friendly file names and tag the files correctly with all the weird
accents and punctuation you want without conflict .

wav do have some tag support with some tagging software , but it's not
that well supported .

If you understand all that , why not give people clarification when
asking for it ?

"I already answered that" is not helping , the person questioning
clearly did not get the original answer .

Hint : quote the question , give an unambiguous answer .

If you work, with support ( as I also has ) you know that no question is
to stupid , don't be offended and answer them to .

For example my Q about if everything works as I should from the web-UI ,
local songs favourites and radio including the items missing on the apps
. It is related as LMS feeds the web-UI and if something is missing
there it will be missing on an app connected to the same server . The
app could be fine LMS might simply not be providing the menus ...

More stupid Q

Tried 7.6 ,7.8.1 or 7.9 server version yet ?

What do you mean by " seeing music folder " ? Do you have artists ,
album , genre menus from you local music or is it just the "browse music
folder" option that is missing . Or is all local music absent on one off
your apps .

If playing a local file from the web-UI of LMS can both apps pause and
restart playback for the player ?

Some definitions mysqueezebox.com is logitechs online server to which
can conect your player and it also admins online services ijnh the
background .

Logitech media server is your locally installed server to sream your own
files .

Even if you have only one player and some "controllers" apps they can be
conected to either one of those services .

The Touch is it second hand ? and di did you do registering step in the
original setup , to create your mysqueezebox.com account ?

Ok assuming that you can play music from the web-UI of your local LMS (
even if a direct answer is absent ).

Can the local LMS web-UI see your radio stations and apps and services
if you use any of those and your favourites if you have saved any .

I' trying to figure if your local LMS server is fully functional or not
.

Re mysqueezebox.com that the player is disconnected is actually normal
that means it registered but connected to the local LMS server . The pop
up remote in this UI is useful when the player is connected to
mysqueezebox.com .
There are people without local files who only uses mysqueezebox.com and
don't have any local server at home.

And it dumps all the cached dB ,for your local files too, everything .
But where is iPlayer storing it's cached info ? Is it the same place ?
Some plugins actually have their own cache mechanism ?

For the Linux implementations clear cache from the web-UI makes more
sense as these are often headless boxes without any desktop or monitor

Btw why not get rid of the control panels altogether ? And move the 3-4
settings that's not redundant to the web-UI ( all other settinsg are in
the web UI ) it's clear cache and the startup options .And there is the
diagnostic tabs for ports in the control panel ( is this Windows only )
?
Would it make less maintenance to bundle up all settings in the web UI ?

Yes I'm convinced that neither LMS or the player itself is doing this ?

How do you playback , try the analog out or headphone out on the player
if this effect can not be heard there it is the equipment connected to
the digital output that's doing this.

If you done some tweaking to your player or system I suggest undoing
them and see if the problem persists ?

If you have different art for every track ( there are such albums )

Track one's art will reprent the album but in a playlist they will

Except on some tablet or phone apps some uses only album art,

If you want to use folder, jpg you must remove the embedded art

 matter.
I don't know any other Logitech device supports DSD native. Only DoP.

How can I do it? Convert it to 24/88.2? It's not DSD. It's PCM
conversion. It's not as DoP. These are different things. I'm not talking
about playing throw analog output of my Touch.
There is no place in this forum where all information are present in
structured view. It's the worst thing of this forum. May be I'll try to
install especially LMS for DSD music on my PC. This is not the best
solution. Unjustified expectations was burned when I saw information
about DSD supporting by the LMS.

OK then I to understands better . If you have a Touch you use EDO with
DoP .

It's outside my knowledge what can you do with a squeezelite based
player ? there is a -D option someone with a minicomputer with
Squeezelite may know I don't

You are rigth that 24/88.2 is certainly not DSD ,but its transparent to
humans anyway .That way you can hear the music with no percievable
quality loss (but not as DSD) but it's must be better than not hearing
the music at all ?
Foobar2000 dBpower amp and you can certainly google some other nice
programs that does this for you .

My use case is that I have very few DSD files (I only buy DSD when there
is no PCM options to buy ) and a systems that is 100% pcm , So use
DSDplay to transcode .

I use a HP microservers it's x86 cpu , but it's a couple of years old it

Yes if the DAC conected to for example Touch does not support DoP ,
DSDplay will transcode to some PCM format on the fly .
That you can also do offline yourself and then put them in the library .
This makes DSD play a convenience function if you don't have a DSD DAC .
You can put your DSD files in the library but there is no actual DSD
playback anywhere ( but that does not really matter )

How much CPU resources are involved in making a DoP stream I don't know
.

there are settings for DoP in the plugin , must be selected per player
as there is no way lms could figure this out for itself .
Wonder if not EDO must be installed on the Touch to use DoP is 24/176

May be similar requirements for squeezelite based players .

Run LMS on another machine just for the DSD files (you can have more
than one LMS in the network ) you are not likely to need this much due
to the scarcity of good msuic avaible in this format .

Or better transcode offline with some tool to 24/88.2 PCM this is also
transparent to the listener , but its some work to do these copies every
time you get an DSD album .

If you specifically have DSD DAC and really really want to try that , I
think run LMS on another machine is a viable option .

Maybe a red herring you have 3 kind of tags for that album as seen in

ideally it should be FLAC .
I to have several older albums tagged this way (before I learned that

We know have on the info page Helper Applications Folder

And an everything option for the log files who gives an option to
download the whole thing , nice when your servers is a NAS or otherwise
remote headless box .
But why did we not have this 8 years ago already :)

Saves an unbelievable amount of extra work for everyone trying to
support instead of the usual snippet of 3 log lines . and the user does
not have to locate his sometimes hidden files and folders

Thanks :)

check your tags especially artist sort artistsort and albumartist sort
albumartistsort .

Is he under D as in Dylan , when you have found and album and a track
you can check the tags via LMS own web-UI and see what LMS have scanned

LMS uses the tags for sorting and displaying .

 my current setup?

If the answer would be Yes then the following question is what needs
to be done to achieve this ;-)

EDO on the Touch ( for 24/192 and DoP) and audioscan 0.95 which you
migth have to compile for your hardware if it does not exist .
Will your NAS be able to run play DSD ? I don't know it migth not ? If
anyone made it on that platform please speak up .

Or think about it and .

Make your own DoP/flac files offline on a PC then you only need EDO .

Make 24/96 PCM copies and your Touch Will just work rigth out off the
Box . DSD is just another format nothing magical here all formats =
16/44.1 is transparent to humans anyway . ( DAC performance migth not be
) . A good recording Will sound good in any playback format thats
transparent . Me i buy DSD if that's the only option aviable otherwise I
buy PCM .

Run another copy of LMS on a PC . Switch servers when needed . Then you
can use play DSD and EDO and satisfy you curiosity . In a fairly large
music collection you won't need DSD that often . The content is rare .

flimflam wrote:
Thank you Mnyb - so, you have reproduced the behaviour of 'problem 2'
(using LMS Linux iPeng on iPad, where it acts in similar fashion to
 LMS Windows iPeng for iPhone).

It is obviously a bug imo: when there is a list of albums, the album
title and the album artist should be displayed. and when there is a
list of tracks, the track title and the track artist should be
displayed, simple as that. Displaying the album artist instead of the
track artist is useless and perverse, you need to see the track artist
at this stage. It's no different if you then go on to add the same
tracks to the playlist - you want to see the track artist with the track
title don't you? And if you browsed to the album directly through the
Album list instead of through the Artist list - again you want to see
the track artist with the track title, there is no difference. You are
right that the server is behaving correctly in filtering songs by the
artist selected, but that is not the problem (we have filtered by Album
Artist and all the songs on the album correctly show up). The problem is
we then have track titles displayed accompanied by album artist not
track artist, and that can't be right.

I raised it to Joerg (iPeng) and Michael Herger in 2013, they both
agreed it was a problem. Hopefully Michael can come to the rescue
 again!! Please!

(As for tagging, I deliberately chose an Album Artist tag which would be
easy to follow for testing, it's just an example. Although I do actually
use it as well and believe it is valid, whereas Soundtrack to me is not
a genre of music. It is a useful way of organising my compilations for
access, other Album Artist names I use are things like Wire Magazine
CDs, Soul Jazz Records Compilations and so on)

Album menu works its only in the artist menu I see this behaviour ,
that’s the only one and it differs from the web-UI . all other menus
worked for me

There are these settings in LMS :

Filter Genres at the Album Track Level.

Filter Contributor Roles at the Album Track Level

they also broken ?

2015-04-16 Thread Mnyb

flimflam wrote:
JJZolx - many thanks, you are exactly right about 'problem 1' (or Bug
18130 as it is now known!)

Mnyb - you won't see 'problem 2' in Logitech's Web UI, because iPeng
queries the information differently. It also sounds like in iPeng you
may be looking at the tracks in the playlist section, not in the
'browsing library' section? It is the 'browsing' section where the
problem arises, i.e. before anything is even added to the playlist or
played whatsoever. This is what my screen grab shows, but I probably
should have been clearer in my text: when I said 'select album' I meant
select to browse, not select to start playing. Would you be able to have
another look and check again? Many thanks.

In iPeng:

If i browse thougth the album or the new music or the compilations
menu i see the track artist for every song . Works as expected .

If i browse thougth artist menu and the artist soundtrack i get the
album trainspotting ,but here only the artist soundtrack is presented
for every track , but is this really wrong ? I specifically browsed to
the artist soundtrack and got an album by that artist . If I browse
through artist Iggy Pop to the album trainspotting I see the 2 songs
he's on in this album .
So browsing by artist gives you songs by that artist ,seems right to me
.

I would not use an albumartist on this album but rather the genre
soundtrack but that's me :)

But the bug that the albumartist is surpressed by the compilation=1 tag
remains , that's a very clear bug to me .

I'm getting a somewhat different results with Logitech Media Server
Version: 7.9.0 - 1426769055 @ Fri Mar 20 04:00:50 UTC 2015 .

On web-UI i see the intended artist .

On iPeng ( on iPad it actually also works fine to begin with except that
on the currently playing track I get the artist, soundtrack and also
after i played it .

So before i play track 6 i iPeng I have Iggy Pop Nightclubbing
Trainspotting

Afte i play the track it displays Iggy Pop, soundtrack Nightclubbing
Trainspotting untill next time I play the album .

So I do see the artist as intended with LMS7.9 and iPeng . On a LInux
server if that matters, audioscan 0.95

Is it no so that time servers just add second 60 to a minute when
doing this .
Are not Google smearing out the second over a whole day or some such to

Thanks for your quick reply Michael.

Triodes spotify plugin runs from the local lms server .

That said who knows how long spotify or wimp will last , so i would not
worry to much .

Any kind of streamer relies in part of some online service . Even LMS
without mysqueezebox.com uses TuneIn for radio listings

Thats how its is the real long term solution is to actually have local
files of the stuff you really want to keep and asume the other stuff
eventually will go away and be replaced by the next thing

imagine that a screensaver of this type is either very complicated or
requires any real maintenance. IMO, it should have always been a
standard screensaver option to help preserve VFD screens on players.

+1 especially as it's a feature off the new players like Touch it has
blank screen saver .

On that note ,the really old bug in Touch and radio where they sudenly
turn on the backlight in the Touch screen for no reason at all , to
guarantee that the backlight is off you must have the server on all the
time . A disconnected Touch can keep its blank screensaver but for some
reason not keep the backlight off .

Yes the play DSD plugin will transcode to any squeezebox that's the
piont , no squeezebox actually supports DSD . I even played a DSD file
to my boom .

However the Touch with EDO supports 24/196 and therefore the DoP format
so you can connect a DSD DAC to it . This is probably also the case with
many DIY hardware players ..

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Multi Library support in LMS 7.9

2015-01-10 Thread Mnyb

If we have user management ( which is not going to happen, noted) users
could be selected by a meny on the player/controller not painstakingly
entered letter by letter .
The initial user setup can be via some settings menu in the web-UI and
can be elaborate ,as its hopefully don't used very often . If you change
spouses kids etc very often you got problem no LMS UI will ever solve
:D

And yes a user could differ in any way which players which music folders
which sub libraries which services his/hers own mysb.com account ( next
snag same player on different accounts ) .
Maybe a common mysb.com account would be the natural piont where this
stops ?
