I can say it seems to be working well so far. Can see where there can be
some improvements.

Personally I've played around with NVDA a few times and am quite impressed.
I don't know how fully functional it will end up being as it is only at
version .05 right now. Still for somebody who needs to access various
systems that belong to other people every once in a while it gets done what
I need it to do so far.

I've been playing with SATOGO for a month or so and have been very favorably
impressed. I've actually come across a couple situations where I couldn't
save settings in an Excel worksheet in JAWS but was able to read the thing
with SATOGO. There was a bug for a while where the voice would change back
to the default unexpectedly, but apparently that's been addressed.

I think this is a tremendously significant development in terms of providing
access for visually impaired people to information. The thing even works
very well with PDF files, so it'll be a natural for libraries, government
offices etc. who are required to provide documents in a readable format for
blind people.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Feed Back Anyone?

2007-07-21 Thread Mohammed Al-shar'
hi.

just to be fair, system access to go, www.satogo.com, is a revolutionary
product by all means. the potentials it has are not to be over-looked,
because only the future can tell how far this new technology will go. it
shouldn't be jaws or window-eyes to be so good. in fact, being different
makes it even better to some. I have tried it and also read many positive
reviews about it. one guy even says that it outperforms jaws under vista. if
interested, let me know so that I guide you to such reviews.

it's interesting to know that System Access uses API hooking as aposed to
mirror drivers to obtain information from windows and its different
applications. this has some advantages, read this to learn more:
http://www.serotek.com/mirror-driver-paper_000.html

one note, I work for a company that markets a different screen reader,
namely Hal or Supernova, if this at all matters.

all the best

Hi All,

I apologize for not letting the list know about my progress, but
it took a while for my tech to get here and then for conditions to be
right to try it again after he left.

He replaced the CD/DVD drive and, so far, I haven't had any
problems burning CDs.

I suspect that either there might have been a problem with the
drive from the beginning since I had so much trouble when I originally
tried to burn data CDs last year or else the drive just got flaky.
The good news is that I can burn DVD's with the new one which I
couldn't do on the old one.

I just tried it with JAWS 6.2 and all 3 files pasted in the first

Earlier, I wrote:

Hi All,

I'm trying to burn some data files to CD using the Burning Utility
in XP Home with SP2, JAWS 7.0, and WMP 10. I get a no disk in drive
message when I actually try to burn the files. Sometimes all 3 files
I want to burn are pasted in the temporary file and sometimes 1 is not
pasted although Insert-shift-down arrow says all 3 are in the
clipboard.

I can play a commercially produced music CD.

I had a similar problem with the same machine last year, but may
have been using JAWS 6.2 at the time. The problem seemed to be solved
when I bought a new pack of CD's. I successfully burned some files
then, but haven't tried it since. I've tried it with 4 disks from
what I think should be from that pack and have pulled out ones from
the middle in case the first one was one of the infamous "dummy" ones.

I know David put a burning program on the JAWS-Users page and I
think one was added to the page for this list just the other day. Is
there any point in trying one of them in case the XP burning utility
isn't working properly? Should I get WMP 11?

Any suggestions for being able to successfully burn the files
would be greatly appreciated.

Margaret

couldn't do on the old one.

I just tried it with JAWS 6.2 and all 3 files pasted in the first

context menu and hit "t" to write the files.

Margaret

Subject: [Blind-Computing] DVD access?

Hi all,

I'm new to the list and am not familiar yet with the format, so hope my query
is appropriate.

I am trying to make playing DVDs more accessible. I haven't been able to find
an accessible program
to do this and have, up to now, been simply inserting the DVD and selecting
"Play using Windows
Media Player"... the DVD will usually play fine this way, but there is no
access to controls like
pause and skip functions etc. I can live with that.

However, I can't seem to be able to play any extras on the DVD. For example, a
DVD of a concert
might have interviews with the artist, but for the life of me, I can't make it
play these extras...
most annoying when you buy a DVD for the extras especially!

Any advice?

Ringo

Re: [Blind-Computing] FTP Explorer Arror Message

2007-07-21 Thread Ricque
Hi Mich,
If you have encountered this problem more than once or twice,
then here are some things to try.
1 Download and install all system and security updates,
windows, anti-virus, firewall, and anti-spy.
2. Disconnect from the internet, and perform full system security sweeps, with
all security
software.
3. Run full system maintenance, includeing disk cleanup, and defrag.
4. When maintenance is complete, in other words, when you have completed all of
the above mentioned
tasks, re-boot the system.
If the problem persists, try un-installing, and then re-installing the program.
I would do the maintenance as I recommended, before un-installing the program,
because it might not
be the program itself, rather some type of junk in the system.
If you have been useing the program for some time with no problems, then this
would indicate that
something has changed in the system to cause it.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Strange Message at Restart

2007-07-21 Thread Jacob Kruger
Go look in the system event viewer and see if there's any more information
therein.

Basically hit the start button, use S to navigate to Settings, go into the
Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, navigate up and down on
the left to find the Application item, then hit tab to go to the list.

You'll then have to move up and down listening to the summary info until you
should find the relevant error item which you can then hit enter on and tab
around that dialogue etc. until you hopefully find a bit more relevant info.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Odd browser behavior

2007-07-21 Thread Jacob Kruger
Had a quick look at that page using Jaws 8.0, and while I can in fact read
most of it, when I used the H key to try jump heading to heading, it didn't
say anything even though it was in fact jumping.

I would guess that there's something a bit strange in the source code of
that page that's interfering with Jaws' virtual buffer
population/manipulation.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Odd browser behavior

Has anyone else experienced this odd browser behavior? Come to think of it,
I suppose it could be Jaws behavior, since Jaws does render the html
somehow. It has been plaguing me since way back when I was still using IE6.
I get portions of web pages on some sites, with other portions reporting
that the web page cannot be found. Below is an example. Sorry for the
length. It starts with the url for the page and this one is worse than
usual--it has 3 error reports on it. Sometimes even though the error report
is there, the news article I am looking for is present, but on this site,
the news is missing. Could someone with both Windoweyes and Jaws look at the
site and see if either product duplicates my results? If they don't, I'll
know it's my browser.

Thanks,
Jeffrey
