Once the control panel window is open, use shift tab to move to the link that says Turn Windows features on or off and hit enter on it. In the list of programs you will find internet explorer which ever version, if you check the box and tab to the OK button, it will disable this feature. It's not exactly uninstalling the program but disabling the windows feature. Now you can go ahead and install the new version of IE. But to my knowledge you can directly upgrade IE by downloading the latest version and launching the setup file to the windows installer. [Blind-Computing] "help needed" getting some lost wav files
Good morning, I am hoping that I can get some assistance from someone. Awhile back I visited the jaws users list website, and found two sets of files. 1. Sound wav files for Microsoft Word, and 2. and an extensive group of wav files of different types. I just recently reformatted my computer and unfortunately these two items I forgot to back up. If there is anyone out there who knows or remember what I am speaking of, and could assist me in getting them back, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance. Re: [Blind-Computing] R: getting in to safe mode
Here is a link to fine the .reg file. I've not given it a go, but I've heard it works. It would be prudent to make a back up of your registery file, just in case. That way, if needed, you can return to it's original without rolling back. It's at: http://www.cucat.org/class_notes/extras/activate%20audio%20in%20safe%20mode/ I'd also recommend the certificate courses offered for blind students at Ciscovision/Kucate. With the two sound cards the music is so low in the background that it does not interfere and in the case of some instructional information I can quickly turn up the speaker volume. -Original Message- From: dwayne Sent: Friday, May 17, 2013 10:50 PM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: [Blind-Computing] MUSIC HOW DO U ADD MUSIC TO AN EMAIL BACKGROUND IN MSOUTLOOK 2003 APRRECIATE THE HELP DEWAYNE advocacy for the blind dewayne ,mcmillin 1425 jennings rd park hills,mo.63601 mcmillindwa...@gobrb.com For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [Blind-Computing] navigating installed programs
I went to the “add or remove “ list, and there is no “internet explorer” listed, as it was on my xp pc, and only 2 windows listed, “windows live essentials” and “windows live sync”, and since I do want to “uninstall” i.e. 10, can someone out there using windows 7, please go to their “add or remove” list, and tell me if there is a listing for their version of i.e., and if there is, please let me know what the listing says? -Original Message- From: Mujtaba Merchant Sent: Friday, May 17, 2013 10:03 PM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] navigating installed programs Hi Tom, Try this out, in the search box of the start menu of windows 7 type add and remove programs and hit enter. But to my knowledge you can directly upgrade IE by downloading the latest version and launching the setup file to the windows installer. there there, use the search box to get to them, or if nothing else you can find your my documents folder by going to the C: drive (windows key +e), and then go to users, enter go to your users name, enter and look in there it will be a folder saying either documents or my documents and again in the start menu you can start menu up arrow once to all programs, right arrow to the shutdown item, down-arrow to your user folder and right arrow on it. then arrow down to the item you want a shortcut for and use your applications key or shift and f10 to get to the applications menu and right arrow on send to and enter on desktop(create shortcut) and va la instant desktop shortcut you will probably wish to go to your desktop and rename the shortcut mine always say " - shortcut" after the name there is another way to set this up, go get my folder on windows 7 helpful hints (a zip file) from my grab bag site and find the desktop notes in it for the other methods for setting this up http://grabbag.alacorncomputer.com HTH, inthaneelf -Original Message- From: Blind-Computing [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Tom Clary Sent: Friday, May 17, 2013 10:32 AM To: blind-computing-join Subject: [Blind-Computing] my documents not on pc i recently received a rebuilt pc from the son of a fellow jaws user, it has jaws 12 on it, and plan on giving it to a friend who is new with both jaws, and a pc. this pc has win 7 as it's os, and i.e. 9, but there is no "my documents", or "control panel" anywhere. does anyone know i can install these 2 features on this pc? the problem is that the normal drivers are not loaded in safe mode, only "basic system" drivers a barely minimum video keyboard and mouse driver and the stuff for the basic systems no sound card drivers, but see my other responses for a fix inthaneelf -Original Message- From: Blind-Computing [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mujtaba Merchant Sent: Friday, May 17, 2013 9:14 AM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] getting in to safe mode Hi, Extremely sorry about neglecting that fact. Re: [Blind-Computing] getting in to safe mode
not normally but if you get the safe mode speech package off my site it can be made to work or at least NVDA will I can't remember if jaws does with this package, but NVDA is fairly good. you will also need either a external USB sound card and headphones or speakers, or a pair of USB headphones all should be explained in the safe mode speech package. http://grabbag.alacorncomputer.com inthaneelf -Original Message- From: Blind-Computing [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Tom Clary Sent: Friday, May 17, 2013 7:38 AM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] getting in to safe mode so, if i hit f8 at reboot, as one reply had in it, which should put me in safe mode, jaws wouldn't work? Re: [Blind-Computing] getting in to safe mode
or, the speech in safe mode add on that is available on my grab bag site. and either a set of USB sound card and speakers or standard head phones; or (best actually) a set of USB headphones since there considered a external sound card and have there own drivers that windows will find and install in 98% of cases you will probably want to learn the commands for a lighter weight screen reader like NVDA as well, since it seems easier to use in the safe mode speech operations, but you can set up a cheat sheet and go from it while using the safe mode operations as long as you know the few basic commands to "command line/run command" start the screen reader, for getting to the desktop, starting the sheet (I'd just put a shortcut to it on the desktop to speed things up), changing to a text editor window, and to move in a text editor reading window that will give you speech in windows 7, 8, and it has been said XP as well, though I have not tried the second or last ones yet myself http://grabbag.alacorncomputer.com HTH, inthane -Original Message- From: Blind-Computing [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Rick Justice Sent: Friday, May 17, 2013 5:23 AM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] getting in to safe mode You forgot to mention that there is no speech in safe mode. h, in the earlier days of it there was although I would not recommend it, just like turning off UAC, its cutting off your nose to spite your face, or cutting off the foot of your computers security guy and expecting it to figuratively run and catch a problem, eh? if your determined to see if you can in windows 7 and up and with I.E. 8 and up there is an article about it on my grab bag site that if I remember right tells you how to disable it despite the problems generated with that action. http://grabbag.alacorncomputer.com take care, and I'd backup before doing this in case you wish to undo it, inthaneelf -Original Message- From: Blind-Computing [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of t.
