Re: [Blind-Computing] Computer Woes

2007-08-09 Thread Jacob Kruger
Like I said, that caps lock/num lock thing is just the way we - in the old
days - used to check whether the computer was trying to actually turn on,
but, to be honest, if there are no 'fan' noises (while I do know some
laptops are very quiet), it's most likely not booting up.

Also, in my experience, after a move as such, one of the internal components
could simply have become dislodged or something simple.

Good luck anyway

The fan is on feel it blowing even, but nothing else. He has a tiny bit of
sight says no blue screen? or windows logo booting up on monitor.
He had a high end router when he was using cable in Houston, but I use DSL
but guess that has nothing to do with it since he's not online and I don't
seem to be affected at all.
Will try the caps lock trick though and thanks..

Sorry I'm only answering this a bit late, but when you 'start up' the
computer, do you hear any fans etc. inside it making any noises?

Also, if you can see, then you can also check if, for example, the numlock
indicator light on the keyboard comes on/off when you try pushing that key.
That's almost the simplest way to see if the computer is actually 'on' at
all.

[Blind-Computing] Computer Woes

2007-08-08 Thread Patricia
Hi List,

My fiance's computer after moving here at my house will not boot-up.
Everything seems to be hooked up correctly, but no windows on the monitor.
He uses xp pro, with jaws 8 and deck talk and that talked briefly then went
crazy.
Nothing else is hooked up to the machine save the monitor,
dec-talk-portable.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Looking to get it up and running so he can get an new email account and all
that stuff.

Thanks,

Patricia
