[Blind-Computing] When and how do i use the JAWS cursor?
I’m a self taught JAWS user, and not too sure when or how to use the JAWS cursor. I’ve openned many emails being told that “ it’s a back and forth JAWS/PC cursor “ thing. I’d really like some help in knowing when switching to the JAWS cursor is needed, and how to navigate a page with it. Re: [Blind-Computing] When and how do I use the JAWS cursor?
Hi It depends on if you are using a laptop or standard keyboard, how you will access the JAWS cursor. For insta instance on a laptop one must press the caps lock followed by the letter p. On a standard keyboard the jaws cursor has its own key. The reason you may want to access the JAWS cursor is to read or interact with information that the PC cursor isn't able to get too. Sometimes one has to put the jaws cursor over an item and simulate a left mouse click. I find some programs require I access the jaws cursor and others do not. I hope this helps. [Blind-Computing] Problem clicking on links in emails in Office Outlook2007 Standard.
Listers, When I have a link in an email, clicking on it just gives me a message saying something like, see administrator. Is there a setting to fix this?Or do I have to go to a higher version of office2007 like Office2007 professional? Some times when I get this message about seeing administrator, I can press the tab key and there's a continue button and when I press that, the link works. Thanks for your help. Re: [Blind-Computing] When and how do I use the JAWS cursor?
Hi Tom, For me it has been trial and error. However, sometimes one is reading instructions for a program, and it asks you to click on something that you just cannot find with the normal PC cursor. Then it is a good bet you want to switch to the JAWS cursor. Then there are programs that lock the pc cursor on a particular spot on the screen and you can't move it. If you want to use that program you are going to need to use the JAWS cursor. I would recommend using the jaws key plus f2 then arrow to keyboard manager. Then press enter to open it. Next press d until you hear default. Then tab once. You will then be in a long list of commands specific to your keyboard lay out. Press J until you start hearing the commands related to the JAWS cursor. To exit This menu, do an alt f followed by x. you should land back where you started. There are a lot of interesting things one can do when they learn more commands to do with the JAWS cursor. By the way. I am mostly self-taught on the JAWS system. I have to admit though, I have asked a allot of questions on lists like this. So, I encourage you to give it a go. It can be allot of fun. God bless, Mark God Loves you! Re: [Blind-Computing] When and how do I use the JAWS cursor?
HI Tom, This explains the functions of the 4 cursors. About JAWS Cursors Navigating through Windows with JAWS is accomplished with cursors. These cursors determine the focus of JAWS speech and are often directly linked with Windows cursors. The PC Cursor - Follows Keystrokes This cursor is linked to the keyboard functions of Windows and applications. This is the cursor that is used when typing information, moving through options in dialog boxes, and selecting options or icons. As you type information, the PC Cursor follows along with each key you press. If you are making a selection in a menu or dialog box, the PC Cursor highlights the currently selected object. The PC Cursor is activated by default when JAWS starts. If you are using a different cursor, pressing NUM PAD PLUS returns you to the PC Cursor. The JAWS Cursor - Follows Mouse Pointer The JAWS Cursor is linked to mouse pointer functions in Windows and other applications. It is used to read information the PC Cursor cannot read, such as toolbar information. The mouse follows along with the JAWS Cursor when it is moved, and you therefore have access to information in an application window that is beyond the scope of the PC Cursor. To activate the JAWS Cursor, press NUM PAD MINUS. The Virtual PC Cursor - HTML Environment The virtual PC Cursor mimics the functions of the PC Cursor, but is activated by default when entering an HTML document. The virtual PC Cursor speaks the number of frames in a document, and the number of links in the frame. You can switch between frames, and JAWS reads graphics labeled by alt tags in the HTML code. Invisible Cursor The JAWS cursor is basically the mouse cursor that is visible on screen. The invisible cursor can be moved around just like the JAWS cursor to view information. It works like the mouse cursor but can not be seen on screen or effect objects. Therefore you can not use the NumPad / (left mouse click) or NumPad * (right mouse click) on an object. It is useful to read information without disturbing the mouse cursor. It is also useful to determine colors or whatever might change when the mouse is over an object. It will not cause ToolTips to pop up. Take care. thank you...helps a lot. when I first got jaws, there was a cd with it that said how to move around with the jaws cursor, the title bar, tool bar, etc., but I've forgotten all of that, but will find out how to move around with the jaws cursor again. thanks -Original Message- From: Mike B. Take care. [Blind-Computing] Window's 7 or 8
Looking for feedback either on list or off. I currently have 3 computers in the home network that are all running XP Pro. I realize this will be supported until I believe June 2014. However, One of the units is having extreme issues and really needs to be replaced. There is another that could be. My understanding is Window's 8 is coming out in the Fall sometime. I have no personal experience with Window's 7 or 8. I know once Window's 8 is released you will still be able to get Window's 7 pre installed on new units purchased but I'm sure it will fade quickly. So my question to those that have tinkered with both, would it be better to replace units this Fall while Window's 7 is still the base system or wait until Window's 8 is the norm? Re: [Blind-Computing] change order of digital audio books
your just renaming the folder the book is in, are these BARD books? I just did it as a test, so then I opened after unzipping the book, each one had same items inside the said named folder, the original and the renamed one where I put 01-before the DB number. - Original Message - From: "Tom" To: Sent: Sunday, June 17, 2012 7:53 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] change order of digital audio books I thought you couldn't rename digital files. doesn't it do something to the file itself? -Original Message- From: Trish Sent: Sunday, June 17, 2012 7:20 PM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] change order of digital audio books couldn't you do it through the rename? by putting...01, 02, etc. before name of the book? - Original Message - From: "Tom" To: Sent: Sunday, June 17, 2012 7:13 PM Subject: [Blind-Computing] change order of digital audio books I found out this past week how to change the order of digital audio books, but of the choices, there wasn’t a choice to simply put a certain digital book in an exact place in the order.. is there a way to assign numbers to these digital audio books, like in excell? Re: [Blind-Computing] Window's 7 or 8
Hi I have windows 7 on all my computers, and I love the pieces out of it. However, Since windows 8 will be the new standard I would wait for it if I were going to upgrade my systems at this point. Re: [Blind-Computing] anyone use the Windows 7 default CD burnner?
Yes, I've done it using jaws 12 and you do it exactly as per the instructions you got from the site, except that you have to tab for some of the options and at some stage also have to choose between whether you wish to burn an audio, or data cd. . You don't have to use the jaws curser anywhere. I've asked several questions of JAWS users for help in burning a CD with different burning software, but I stumbled upon a site that says that "things have got a whole lot easier. Windows 7 has its own built in burning features so you can burn a CD/DVD in just a few clicks." 1. Select a file or files you want to burn to a disc, and click the Burn button at the top of your window. 2. You will then be presented with another window showing the files added to the burn list, so you will be able to add more files to the burn list if you want or you can just click burn to disc. 3. It will then check to make sure you have a disc inserted into your drive, and if you do you will be asked to add a name to the disc and you can choose a different write speed if you wish but it will automatically select the highest recording speed available for you. 4. And once you've clicked next it will begin burning the files to the disc, and then your done. What I'd like to know is if any JAWS users burn a CD with this Windows 7burner, and to please tell me how? I have Windows 7 on my computer For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
