Re: [blind-gamers] Turn based combat

2021-04-27 Thread Paul Lemm
Morning Michael,

The two Manamon games by VG Storm are quite popular in the audio games
community, both are turn based games, they are very similar to Pokémon, in that
you go round collecting new Manamon and battling other Manamon. I think they
are both priced at $40, but both have a pretty big free demo which you can play
to get a feel for the game and see if you like them. I’m going to do a little
shameless self-promotion here, although it’s still in development so not
ready for download yet, but if you like Turn based RPG’s, I’ve been working on
a set of tools called Sable, which lets you build your own turn based RPG’s,
but the best bit is that it requires absolutely no coding or scripting what so
ever. I produced a few videos of me demonstrating Sable, showing how easy it is
to create Maps, battles etc. if you’re interested I’ll put the link to the
first video in the series below, its about ten minutes and just shows me
creating a map, placing items, buildings, sounds and then walking around that
map, if you’re interested you can check out the other videos on the channel
too, where you see me turn the map in that first video into a little mini game,
with a couple of quests and battles. The game design team here at Ebon Sky
Studios are also in the process of producing our own turn Based RPG called
Crimson Eclipse which will be created using Sable, this is also still only in
development so not ready for download, but if you’re interested in turn based
RPG’s and want to stay up to date on news and updates regarding its
development, we post updates on our social media channels. Anyway if you are
interested the link to the Sable video is below, links to our social media are
in my signature

I have played most offerings on the iPhone, but have just recently discovered
that there are actually great titles on PC. I have played A hero’s call and
entombed (well as far as level 7, sigh), and I have always enjoyed turn based
games, so these were really enjoyable to me. It was just the combat portion
that was turn based, but that is fine. Also interested in empire building or
other games that are completely turn based, like civilization, or other games
with turn based combat.

Tactical Battle from Ian Reed, Time of Conflict and Trek2000 from GMA,
Smugglers (the whole series), everything from VGA, Paladin of the sky from VG
storm, some of Aprone's games might count - temporal definitely does, Dragon
Village from Rocky Waters, Warsim from Wastelander... I think I've covered a
fairly wide group of genres here, but those are all off the top of my head, and
there certainly are more options available.

Hi Michael,

There is a command-line port of the 1993 game Master of Orion which is
available. If you’re not familiar, it’s basically civilization in space, more
or less.

The one downside is that the text-based combat display is a little annoying,
the game doesn’t provide quite as much info as it should. You can fortunately
automate combat, and can win without having to fight much at allis you play
properly.

You can download the game from my
Dropbox<https://www.dropbox.com/s/vqarb670u0c253k/1oom%20all-in-one%20release%20V1.3.zip?dl=0>,
it includes a manual for the original DOS program and a command reference for
the text-based port. Run Orion.exe to get started. Questionmark is your best
friend.
Hope this helps,
Zack.
