Hi,

I think it's a better idea to keep all the Mozilla-based products'
profiles in the same predictable place. Thunderbird, Tor Browser Bundle,
etc.

BTW, any new info on the v45 security issues vs the cookie prompt? Were
we going to backport the security updates to v38, or move forward to v45
like TBB has, possibly including one of the add-ons Mozilla recommended?

Personally I can't imagine using a cookie prompt for each site (plus
every banner ad and invisible GIF?) and always found it better to clean
cookies on shutdown, and have done so pretty much all my life. I
wouldn't mind sacrificing such a feature in exchange for fixing security
issues now and more easily in the future.

I had received 'Memory exhausted' on my 2nd attempt so this time
I closed down everything except htop on this Jessie/Sid debian system.

Total memory showing on htop was 3160Mb, or 3.16 Gb, which I think
should be ample.

I might have neglected to delete files from the previous 'make' attempt.
I'll have to look around, but right now am a bit tired.

I'd be grateful for any constructive suggestions.

Adam

 Hi,
Removing a library is not an option for me. I noticed
that ./configure succeeds if I only comment out

 ac_add_options --with-system-jpeg

 I added

 ac_add_options --with-system-jpeg8

 this worked for me.

 Regards,
 Paul

P.S.: Is there a Debian-Maintainer for an Icecat Package?

 Disconnect is a free (GPLv3) add-on.

The add-on is available here: https://disconnect.me/

The source and license are available here:
 https://github.com/disconnectme/disconnect

(I'm one of the Disconnect devs and, in case you have no idea what I'm
talking about :-), I'm referring to this page:

Nice concept, but I could not find it at
https://www.gnu.org/software/gnuzilla/addons.html
and it would install from
https://disconnect.me/

How does one enable it on icecat ?

[Bug-gnuzilla] IceCat hangs in 'safe mode'

2012-12-29 Thread Adam Bogacki
I have been using icecat since its inception, and recently set up
icecat-17.0.1.
I was pleasantly surprised that, after downloading and unpacking it, it
would
start as simply as './icecat' .. with the usual './configure', 'make',
and 'make install'.

I proceeded to selectively install a few extensions and themes, but then
found
that it crashed, and now './icecat' either does not start, or gives me
the msg

GNU IceCat closed unexpectedly while starting. This might be caused
by add-ons or other problems. You can try to resolve the problem
by resetting GNU IceCat to its default state or troubleshooting in
Safe Mode.

When I hit the button Start in Safe Mode it comes up with a
'Restore Session' screen with the msg that
You can try * Starting an entirely new browsing session.

Pressing Start Session gives me 'Add-ons Manager' with the msg
All add-ons have been disabled by safe mode'.

I have managed to get past that.

Can anyone advise how I could start an entirely new browsing session,
or exit 'safe mode' ?

You were right
adam@(none):~/Downloads/icecat-12.0$ ls -la
./js/src/ctypes/libffi/src/.dirstamp
-rw-r--r-- 1 adam adam 0 2012-06-04 07:29
./js/src/ctypes/libffi/src/.dirstamp

.. so I did
adam@(none):~/Downloads/icecat-12.0$ sudo chmod a+x
./js/src/ctypes/libffi/src/.dirstamp
adam@(none):~/Downloads/icecat-12.0$ ls -la

-rwxr-xr-x 1 adam adam 0 2012-06-04 07:29
./js/src/ctypes/libffi/src/.dirstamp

repeated

sudo ./configure make

and ended up with

Adam,

It's not looking in 'ICECAT_DIR/src/.deps', it's looking in
'ICECAT_DIR/js/src/ctypes/libffi/src/.deps'. If the problem persists,
try running 'chmod a+x .dirstamp'. The make script is attempting to
run it, but it can't, most likely because the executable bit isn't set.

Hope that helps,

Re: Installing Icecat 5

2011-08-07 Thread Adam Bogacki

Hola Guiseppe.

sudo apt-cache search gtk+-2.0-dev
apt-cache search gtk+-unix-print-2.0-dev
apt-cache search glib-2.0-dev
apt-cache search gobject-2.0-dev
apt-cache search gdk-x11-2.0-dev

give me no reply.

Which repository would you recommend ?

I think I will have to sleep on it - I am in the opposite time zone.

IceCat .. IceBird ?

2009-09-15 Thread Adam Bogacki
Hi, I have just set up IceCat and like what I see.

One of the reasons I still have a (mostly) working version
of IceApe on my machine is that I often use the Send Page option.

Rather than trying to replicate the Mozilla suite as GNUzilla,
would it not be more parsimonious to include the Send Page option
as an extension of IceCat which could link with a GNU version of IceDove ?

IceBird, perhaps ?
