What I read all around is that settings are merged. The interesting
bit is a hierarchical prevalence. But a simple experiment which I'm
sure many users have tried, is to set a variable in a paper block in a
bookpart, and see how this variable affects the whole book. Any
example from us should show that you can not expect this setting
affects only to that bookpart unless you have a setting in a higher
hierarchy that acts as a default for the rest of the book.

Handle a bookpart as if it were a score block, in the sense of you can
not put assignments on it. What one expects is to have a working file
with both variable assignments and a \score{}, and simply put it
inside of a bookpart{}, which can not be done just as you can not put
assignments into the \score{}. I think it is common that users want to
join scores in a book and first thing they try involves leaving their
original files untouched. This is not possible: you have to split
every file in two, and include them in different places of the master
file, namely assignments outside of the bookpart and scores inside of.

your solution certainly works but i'm not eager to count the measures

FWIW I can't get bad output with any version of LilyPond. Perhaps the
problem is the documented fact that autobeam does not work over rests?
I think the output was actually bad in 2.13.60 but that's irrelevant
because it looks good now.
IIRC it was not only that a beam was not printed across the rest.
Rather it was really ugly output. I could be wrong.

I think the Spanish page is not being generated, so yes, linking to English as other languages do is the next bad thing. You've got the lyrics in a sequential block with the music, rather than in a
parallel block.

I hate to say that \addlyrics is not intented to be used this way, either. i.e.
\new Staff {
\relative g' {g1}
\addlyrics { milk }
}
works as expected. The problem is that you can not put another pair
{music}\addlyrics{lyrics} on sequence, given the way in which
addlyrics works. I strongly recommend to use named voice contexts
plus \lyricsto for any other than mostest simplest songs.

It would have been nice to have a rule that added a comment in the

What follows is my opinion only.
It looks as if the voice context for the second \addlyrics is lost
after the first \addlyrics. This does not surprise me.
The behaviour is not more weird than the code itself. \addlirycs is
not intented do be used this way, that's why you obtain an unexpected
result.
{ music } \addlyrics { lyrics }
is a short for
\newStaff { \new Voice=name {music} } \new Lyrics \lyricsto name
\lyricmode { lyrics }
It is a simultaneous construct, but you don't use and therefore
is not clear what you try to achieve by just putting more music after
an addlyrics.
This is what you can do depending on what you want:
Do you want your music and lyrics to be simultaneous? use \new

PDF has that character in the title. What is your OS? Is the error

By looking to the ties, it becomes clear that b~b and d'~d' ties are
more far apart from the noteheads than what would be optimal,
presumably to avoid staff lines which aren't there.
