[BVARC] Need enclosed cargo trailer

2020-10-06 Thread Rob KC5RET via BVARC
Hello all,

I'm looking for a small to medium enclosed cargo trailer. 6 to 10 feet
long, single axle, preferably 6 feet high with a ramp. A door on the side
would be nice but not necessary.

I'm going to use this to carry the ham radio items to be sold at swap
meets and such.

I have a few leads but I thought I should contact the club to see if anyone
has one for sale they no longer need.

Not really interested in buying a flat trailer and building an enclosure, I
already have a flat trailer.

Thanks for your time.

Re: [BVARC] [tdxs-list] CQ WW RTTY Contest - this weekend!!

Hello everyone,

Thanks to the reflector, I know there is a RTTY contest this weekend. What
I would like to know is, will the setup I use for FT8 on my IC-7300 work
for RTTY as well?

I haven't worked RTTY since 1995, so remember very little of it. I can't
even remember what RTTY program I used, so I am open for suggestions. I
put up an 130' end fed sloper for this event, so I would like to put it to
work.

Re: [BVARC] Question for our JT Alert/N3FJP gurus

2020-08-15 Thread Rob KC5RET via BVARC
Mr. Vance,

After sending my email to the group, I found this in the help file, but I
don't completely understand it:
" it is best to update that needs list whenever you get QSOs in your log
that have their QSL status changed (say after doing a download from LoTW).
The "Rebuild Alert Database" section of the JTAlert Settings window is what
you need (there is a direct menu link "Settings->Rebuild Alert Database")

The rebuild will search your log and update a single needs list or all of
them for the different Wanted alert types. You can have different QSL
requirements for different Wanted Alerts and the settings are saved.

So, this sounds like to me that if I run this Rebuild Alert Database every
so often, it will uncheck the boxes for me. Automated no, but better than
having to go back through the logs and write the different states and then
manually unchecking the boxes in JTA.

What do you think Mr. Vance?

[BVARC] Question for our JT Alert/N3FJP gurus

2020-08-15 Thread Rob KC5RET via BVARC
Hello all,

I'm working with JT Alert and using N3FJP for logging, and I'm trying to
get my WAS on 6m FT8.

Through my fumbling through the JT Alert settings I've found where you can
check the states you need. What I have found as I log some of these
states, the check boxes are not being removed in JT Alert. Is there
something also that I have to check in either JTA or N3FJP so it will check
off the states as I get them?

[BVARC] Anyone have a 2m yagi that works that they want to sell?

2020-06-10 Thread Rob KC5RET via BVARC
Hello all,

Well, I have just spent the better part of three days building and trying
to tune up my Gulf Alpha 5 element yagi only to find it's as deaf as a
post. I also can't get the SWR to anything lower than 1.7 to 1. Normally I
wouldn't worry about that but Icom 910H's are notorious for cutting their
output power when they are feeding a poorly tuned antenna.

So, does anyone have a 5 to 10 element yagi (a 13B2 would be too much for
the mast I have available) they KNOW that works that they want to sell? I
think a Cushcraft A14810S would be great or perhaps an 2M7 from Msquared.
I feel like I've done too much work to go back to my 8 element 2m quad.

So if you have something 5 to 10 elements, you know that it works, and you
want to sell (or trade, I have a lot of stuff) AND I can come look at it
before Saturday morning, text me at 832 --- 586 --- 6799, let me know
what you have and I'll give you a call.

Hello all,

I have an issue and I thought, hey, I'm a member now, I'll go to the brain
trust that is BVARC.

I want a UPS for my home office. I don't want to pay for a APC UPS. I
have a couple of gently used RV batteries that I've keeping on a NOCO
Genius battery charger in maint mode.

is there a gadget I can buy, that will allow me to plug it into house power
for power outage detection purposes, but let me use my own batteries for
backup when the power goes out.

I'm sure MFJ has something like this, but I was thinking something of
higher quality.

I am still working and do not have the soldering skills to make my own, so
I would like to purchase something turnkey that is less than
comparatively sized APC system.

Any suggestions?

Does the application have to come through USPS or can it be done online?

Am I reading the Counties on the Air link correctly? No one is planning on

I can operate from Tyler County for 6 to 8 hours on SSB starting at 9am, if

Just let me know.
