Re: [BVARC] How to HAM?
Kristan,I understand and was once in your shoes when I first started. I know you said it is hard for you to go to activities such as a planed POTA event. But I encourage you to seek these gatherings because they are some of the best way to get answers to your questions and a little hands on experience so you too will become confident in your knowledge and ability. A few places to keep an eye out for upcoming local park activations are Houston POTA, Cross Roads Ham Radio Club, and Brazos Vally Amateur Radio Club. All these groups manage a Facebook page that helps get the word out of organized POTA activations in our area. I freely admit that the amount of time that I spend trying to learn is minimal, because of other priorities at the moment. I don’t often convert MOV to MP4 but a possible solution is this program. https://www.adobe.com/express/feature/video/convert/mov-to-mp4 I use DaVinci Resolve for my video editing. Re: [BVARC] TONIGHT: Brews with BVARC
No need to apologize Kori. I for one appreciate everything you and all those in important positions with the club are doing. I think sometimes we forget everyone involved in the club is a volunteer. With that most volunteers have full time work and family obligations that take priority. I have taken some of the responsibility on my self to create my own calendar of reoccurring events so at least I have a place holder and am not surprised when that event is draws near. Thank you for your detailed calendar and I am glad to see that now only pertinent information is posted on the website.73 deSean - N5LNKOn Sep 14, 2023, at 12:10 AM, Kori Rahman via BVARC wrote:Dwayne and all:First of all, apologies for the late notice on the Brews with BVARC event Tuesday. Despite the late email alert, we had a decent turnout and it was a great event overall. I make sure to mention this and all of the other upcoming events on the Wednesday Stir-Crazy net. But to be fair I have been slipping on email alerts lately and I will make sure to have my VP monthly update email -that seemed to be well received in past months- sent out for the foreseeable future.. As many of you know I've been pretty distracted with family matters for the past several weeks, so that among other things has kept me from getting emails out earlier. BUT, to avoid this for next time I put the information for the next Brews with BVARC for the month of October below, so please mark your calendars. Speaking of calendars, I wanted to go ahead and share one I've created that holds all of the upcoming (30 days out) BVARC events. As soon as times and dates are confirmed I will place them in this calendar, so if you would like to add this calendar to your own calendar application, you will get alerts of upcoming events (in-person events and nets), and you can reference it in the future instead of having to hunt for specific events in your inbox or on the website (you should still check the website for updates though!).OCTOBER Brews with BVARC:When:Tuesday October 10th at 6:30pmWhere:Holler Brewing Co.2206 Edwards St. Suite AHouston, TX 77007BVARC Events Google Calendar (should work with Apple devices as well):Click here to add this calendar to your accountExample Screenshot:I hope this helps us all stay on the same page about upcoming club events and allows us to have even more opportunities to see each other. Thanks and 73!Kori Rahman, WX5KRBrazos Valley Amateur Radio ClubVice-President and Club Call Sign KK5W TrusteeCell: (770) 298 8516kori...@gmail.comOn Tue, Sep 12, 2023 at 2:03 PM Dwayne Jones via BVARCwrote:Kori,I do wish you would put this information out at least a week or so before it happens. I would have liked to join but this short of notice does not work. If I had known I could have brought clothes to change into. I even looked on the BVARC webpage to see if the event was listed there. Unless I missed it I did not see it listed. DwayneKB5YTAOn Tue, Sep 12, 2023 at 12:37 PM Kori Rahman via BVARC wrote:Hello everyone! Just a reminder that Brews with BVARC is TONIGHT Tuesday September 12th at 6:30pm! We will be at 8th Wonder Brewery near downtown Houston. Please come out if you can. There's always great conversation and camaraderie out at these events, and we hope this one will be no exception. I will be on 146.520MHz FM Simplex so you can reach out to me if you have trouble finding our table. Please check out their website (https://8thwonder.com/) to see their various signature beers (the Rocket Fuel on Nitro is one of my favorites) and there may be a few others on tap when we get there. They should have a food truck on-site today and have indoor as well as a nice outdoor seating area if it has finally cooled down enough for us to try that out. As always, arrive when you can, be safe, be responsible, and let's have fun! I will see you there.September Brews with BVARC:When:TODAY! Re: [BVARC] High power EFHW Antenna/ MFJ-1982HP
I have the MP version and love it. I made many DX contacts with it. I have had it in a couple different configurations. When I was able to string it out straight I had no problems with it getting out on 10-80m running 100w on my FT991a. The squirrels recently sent it to the ground for me so I am now looking into another location to put it back on the air as my main antenna. 73 de Sean - N5LNK > On Aug 15, 2023, at 10:40 AM, mike.williams shopjubilee.com via BVARC > wrote: > > > Time to pick your brains… > > > > I am interested in EFHW antennas for primary use on 20/40/80m – but want to > be able to run my Worthmore 600w amplifier. > > I found a MFJ model - MFJ-1982HP is rated for 800pep > > https://mfjenterprises.com/products/mfj-1982hp > > > > This antenna is available in three power ratings: > > MFJ-1982LP – 30w > > MFJ-1982MP – 300w > > MFJ-1982HP – 800w > > > > Anyone have experience with this antenna? > > > > > > > > A couple of questions – > > If you have experience with high power (>= 600w) transformers for EFHW > antennas, what design did you use > Core type and number of cores > type 53 has a higher curie temp as opposed to type 43 > Wire AWG? > I see a number of YouTube videos recommending 56:1 as 49:1 > Comments? > > > What is your recommended wire for the radiation element? > Material – > i.
