Re: [BVARC] Connecting Multiple Audio Sources
If you plan on interfacing it with your radio, You might want to use a Direct Box between your radio & mixer. You can get a Direct Box that has balanced in & out unbalanced in and balanced out Also ground lift switch to Isolate the grounds of your rig from the mixer. Many have attenuation switches in the event your level is too hi. Also on many rigs there is a ACC jack on the back that has a line level input terminal like for a sound card. You can use this input for your mixer and leave the existing mike. You can also obtain a separate PTT switch here. Due note, most mixers have a balanced output, ether a XLR jack or a TRS jack. If you use the XLR term 2 & 3 are the balanced out, with a TRS the T & R are the balanced output. The term 1 or the S are ground which you may not want connected. If your rig is old tube type do not hook up external equipment without knowing what you are doing as many older rigs have High Voltage on there in/out jacks. Re: [BVARC] Connecting Multiple Audio Sources
You don’t mention Bluetooth, but I would add my caution to the other one offered. Possibly the time delay is improved, but a time delay is maddening when you are trying to break in. I originally thought I could plug a Sony Bluetooth adapter into the jack in my trunk. By the time I heard an opening and keyed down, I was ALWAYS too late. Time delay was probably only about half a second. You would never notice it if listing only. Again, speeds may have improved since then. Just a caution. Re: [BVARC] Connecting Multiple Audio Sources
Thanks for all the input. I appreciate the recommendations. I have been using audacity for a while on both my Linux and windows machines, great software. I use VLC on Linux, but I do prefer K-Lite Codec Pack Media Player Classic on Windows. Of course an audio mixer to... mix audio. I guess I never used one before so it didn't come to mind. I'll look into that Beringer model. At the moment I've only got 3 sources of audio out and my Shure SM58 that I run through my computer via the Zoom H4N. I guess connecting that microphone to a ham radio would be more complication, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I use an Alesis Multimix 8 (It’s USB enabled to hook directly to a PC and has multiple inputs) It’s going to take quite a few cables and adaptors to make all that work though. You also may need a larger mixer with more inputs depending on what all you want to add. You also may need some type of isolation transformer if you plan to use your headset to talk on your radio if you get any hum. There is a lot of info out there you’ll need to do your research before buying though. Example - a lot of mixers say ‘USB’but are not able to plugged into a PC - you can plug a memory stick with MP3’s into them is what they are referring to. Re: [BVARC] Connecting Multiple Audio Sources
You may want to consider an inexpensive audio mixer. A mixer delivers multiple audio inputs into a single (or stereo pair) output. A mixer allows you to control the volume of each input signal separately. Google 'JUST MIXER Audio Mixer' or 'Maker hart Just Mixer S'...these are used for combining headphone outs from different sources. Available from Sweetwater or Amazon. There are others too. Re: [BVARC] Connecting Multiple Audio Sources
Also keep in mind that a lot of USB audio utilities add a good deal of latency into the mix, not a problem for listening, but it might well be so if your using a headset mic through the system.
