*SORRY *- Just remembered the MFJ-1728 does 2m & 6m, *NOT* 70cm!

One of the best deals I've ever seen (or owned) for a dual band mag mount
is the MFJ-1728B . It's a
little long, but it also does 6m. Comes with a BNC adapter for your HT,
and NMO mounts to the base. I purchased a separate ground plane "kit"

so I can use mine both on a vehicle or on a mast.

I am in agreement with Jeff, the tram 1185 is outstanding. I also
purchased the Nagoya UT-72. I actually think it worked better for me. I
am running an FTM-400XDR in the mobile.

I want to recommend this product at Amazon

Authentic Genuine Nagoya UT-72 Super Loading Coil 19-Inch Magnetic Mount
(Heavy Duty) VHF/UHF (144/430Mhz) Antenna PL-259, Includes Additional SMA
Adaptor for BTECH and BaoFeng Handheld Radios

+1 for the Tram 1185. I’ve been using it as a “permanent” mobile antenna on my
daily driver for ~7 years, through the back side of the trunk lid. No damage
to the cable or the weatherstripping, no leaks. I like it so much (and it’s so
cheap) that I keep several around for portable use, go kits, etc; works just
fine slapped onto a cookie sheet.

The MFJ 1721 is decent. Should meet your needs just fine.

I used this with success:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0045EQUBK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8=1
Amazon.com: Tram 1185 Amateur Dual-Band Magnet Antenna: Car

After a while, I wanted something more permanent, but also did not want to
drill. I have a 4Runner, so ended up using this NMO mount on the rear door, on
the back corner of the vehicle:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AR09JOQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8=1

...with this antenna:

Amazon.com: Tram 1180 Amateur Dual-Band NMO 38 Inch Antenna VHF 144-148 and UHF

I was concerned that the "back corner" mount would cause issues due to the lack
of ground plane, but it seems to work just fine...

Subject: [BVARC] Recommendation for 2m/70cm Vehicle Mag Mount

Hi all,

I would appreciate any recommendations for a car mag mount that will cover both
2m & 70cm. If I can get it quickly through Amazon, that would be a bonus!

I don’t plan to drill any holes as I will likely move this between cars and
take it off when not in use. So I’ll want it to have a small wire that I can
run between the door and the car when in use. I know this is not ideal and I
risk crimping the cable, but some initial tests suggest this will work fine
with my main vehicle and I’m willing to risk damaging the cable.

PL-259 connector would be best as I already have some adapters to go from that
to my HT and that will work with the mobile rig.

Thanks,
