RE: [cayugabirds-l] Prairie at home, but not a companion

Speaking of PRAIRIES, Susie & I found 3 today:  one in white pines at the
corner of Bald Hill School and Grove School Rds. in Brooktondale, and 2
among smallish white pines in an old field at the south end of Creamery Rd.
near its intersection with Robinson Hollow Rd., town of Richford.  Also
found a Kingfisher nest hole along Griggs Gulf Rd., Town of Harford.  This
is only the second kingfisher nest we have ever found.

I just had a very odd visitor: a PRAIRIE WARBLER just sang from close
outside my house, right over the deck.  It sang 3 loud songs and then
disappeared.

 

That's a new yard bird for me here on Yellow Barn RD.

RE:[cayugabirds-l] Ravens on east hill

So how many ravens are there in this area? Gary Kohlenberg also wrote he sees 
ravens regularly. I have been seeing them mostly near Honness and East Hill 
area, though we saw one on the junction of Pine Tree and 79 this Friday morning 
from the bus. Any ideas how large would their territory be? also do they split 
brood? I have been seeing only one adult two young.  Of course I can find out 
from the internet, just being lazy. 
I heard them today in morning too.

Hi everyone,
I've also been enjoying the East Hill ravens, although I haven't seen any young 
ones so far.  I live just up from the upper trail going into Six Mile Creek, on 
Giles St.  Sometimes a raven will fly out from the woods, over Giles St, and 
over the neighboring yards.  Generally what happens is that I'll see and hear 
the raven, then it will disappear behind the trees.  A minute later, I'll see 
the raven being escorted back to the woods by a couple of crows ;).  This 
morning the raven seemed to escape the attention of the crows, even though it 
was making a fair bit of noise.
I don't remember seeing ravens from my yard before this year, so it is a nice 
treat.
