Subject: Oracle RAW(50) - string conversion

When I cfquery a Oracle database row with a RAW column in it, it is returned
as a ByteArray.

If I view the column in a SQLNet client like Toad you see a string, probably
hex I'm guessing.

I'm wondering how I correctly detect it and convert it to a string
afterwards?

I want to avoid doing it within the select statement with cast or convert,
because I'm generating dynamic select * from mytable statements and the
code doesn't know it will end up with a raw (ByteArray).

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Matt

CF8 and CFmail, sending duplicate emails

2007-11-27 Thread Will Swain
Hi,

We recently upgraded our server to CF8.

We have a number of clients who use emailing tools to send out emails to opt
in lists. One of these clients did a mailout last week to a couple of lists,
and it would appear that the emails all went at least twice to every member
of the list. The code has run perfectly on CF7 for a couple of years, so I'm
pretty sure it's not a code issue.

I've tried replicating this issue, and I haven't been able to. Does anyone
know of anything that might cause this to happen. The lists are not that
large - the largest has about 3,500 email addresses, the smallest about 300.
Did CF8 change the way it handles CFMAIL?

Thanks

RE: CF8 and CFmail, sending duplicate emails

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss a code problem. I've seen a lot of code in
my time that once worked that stopped working on an upgrade. It could be
the use of a depreciated function or tag, or simply code that worked due to
issues in the CF engine at the time--but which shouldn't have run.

Also, I believe I remember reading CF8 changed some behavior of nested
cfoutput/cfloop tags in CF8, but I can't recall exactly what I read.

Finally, I will say don't overlook the obvious. If a user clicks on a
link/button multiple times, unless your script explicitly prevents the
behavior, the server will process the request multiple times. This is the
most common cause of duplicates that I've seen.

don't know how to preserve or import settings.

File, Export, General, Settings.

My personal experience is it's just easier to rebuild. I've tried the export
settings, but it's caused me problems in the past.

I think the problem stems from the fact that so many plug-ins are completely
re-written for different versions of Eclipse.

The good news is you should be able to go to File Import Existing
Projects into Workspace and it should import your project into your new
build (although things like the local history won't be imported.)

From there it's just a matter of installing the plug-ins you want. Maybe
it's because I only use a handful of plug-ins (CFEclipse, Aptana, FileSync,
Flex and the various Adobe Eclipse plug-ins,) but it usually only takes me
30 minutes or so to get all my plug-ins restored.

Also, I definitely think v3.3 is worth upgrading to. Performance for me has
been much, much better.

I could use. (How about being able to pass in multiple queries to the

objects getting stuck in invisible places (how does an object get
set to a negative y axis inside of a section?). Granted, I'm not on

made since?

RE: CF8 and CFmail, sending duplicate emails

2007-11-27 Thread Will Swain

Thanks for the reply Dan,

I take your point on the code. It's just that the actual code is really
rather simple:

cfset unsent_list =

cfinvoke component=#request.cfc_root#mailing method=getListEmails
returnvariable=qry_getListEmails
cfinvokeargument name=listID value=#Form.mailing_list#
/cfinvoke

cfloop query=qry_getListEmails

cfset trimmed_email = Trim(email_address)

cfif IsEmail(#trimmed_email#) IS 'yes'

Send the email

cfelse

Log that the email address was not valid and don't send email

/cfif

The query is returning the expected data - I've tried dumping it and I can
see that email addresses aren't duplicated.

I've tried duplicating the problem and have so far been unable to. I'm going
to try with a large list of safe email addresses shortly.

Normally, I'd agree that this is probably down to the user clicking submit
more than once, but this particular client is very reliable. However, I will
look at implementing something that prevents this from happening - I'm think
CFTHREAD is perfect here. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Cheers

Will

Coldfusion Consuming a .Net Control

2007-11-27 Thread Jose Diaz
Hello All,

I have had the following request past onto me:

Can we pass CF a .net 3.0 dll containing a control - say the calendar
control, and then allow CF to consume this dll and display the
calendar.

I am using CF8 and I am aware that BlueDragon could be a possible
answer to this, I was wondering if this is possible with CF8.

The most I have done so far is use cfobject to expose some .net
methods and display the data they return.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks,

Jose Diaz

Andy,

What settings are you talking about?

Is there a single file, or a folder?

Do I have to reinstall all my plugins as well?

I'd recommend just extracting Eclipse v3.3 into a new folder and then
re-installing the plug-ins (as I stated in another thread.)

I think in the long run it'll make life for you smoother. Re-installing the
plug-ins shouldn't take long.

Just to further elaborate. The last time I tried to migrate my installation
to a new build of Eclipse (I think it was from 3.1 (or maybe 3.0) to 3.2) I
spent over 2 hours trying to get things working without errors. I finally
gave up and just did a fresh install. It only took me about 40 minutes to
get a fresh new install with all new plug-ins configured.

Maybe a fresh install isn't going to be required, but you do get the benefit
of purging all the old obsolete plug-ins and old versions from Eclipse.
You'll probably notice that Eclipse boots a lot faster too.

I've been using Crystal Reports viewed via the web for sometime. As I am
using an IIS server I've been using asp pages and it works great. I am using
a program called recrystallize (www.recrystallize.com) which is a wizard

information, parameters and how you want the report to be displayed. Once
the process is completed it generates the ASP pages which you place on your
web server. I've been using it for years and it's a great tool.

Re: Coldfusion Consuming a .Net Control

2007-11-27 Thread Vince Bonfanti
Yes, this is possible with BlueDragon.NET (I can send you an example if you
need it). No, I don't think this is possible with CF8, because CF8 does not
provide any integration with ASP.NET, and .NET controls require the ASP.NET
runtime context. CF8 integration with .NET is done via a separate Windows
process--you can see this in the Services control panel or task manager--and
this process does not provide any integration with ASP.NET. In contrast,
BlueDragon.NET is implemented entirely on top of (within?) the ASP.NET runtime.

RE: CF8 and CFmail, sending duplicate emails

2007-11-27 Thread Will Swain

Thanks for the reply Tom,

Are you talking about one thread for all the cfmails (outside the loop), or
one for each mail? I'm assuming the latter wouldn't be a good plan where
there might be thousands of emails, particularly on CF8 Standard.

Also, with the former option, if the thread was named then I could
presumably check that a thread of that name wasn't already running and not
run the code if it was - my thinking was this could help deal with double
clicks on the submit button. I'm looking at this at the moment.

I'm still not convinced that the duplicated emails were caused by the user
double clicking though.

Cheers

Will

Conceptual Search against Database(s)

2007-11-27 Thread d l
Greetings to all,

I know Verity and Google search etc. etc. Try the following if you're
interested in the topic, but before you begin let me issue some warnings:
a) I'm not implementing some of the stuff that a beginner programmer would have
implemented such as telling peole, oh query does not find such and such... just
provide the core function...
b) Please do no ask me for source code nor alg...
c) Now let's get to the 'meat' part :)
You may try the following 'concepts' respectively

luck
computer
environmental protection
Hollywood star

---
another perspective, get a feel of what's on people's mind back then...
try,
future energy

--
our interest in other nation
Japan
(hint, you may try any of the following respectively as well
japanese archipelago
japanese islands
nihon
nippon
)

--
my own opinion, the 'thing' is good enough but not perfect.
e.g. concept of 'energy' would get department of energy, good, but meantime,
it would get 'zip' as well, wtf?

NOW, here you go (the server is an old box, bear with me...)

P.S.
I think there's a recent thread on Verity, customerizable parameter weighting
something, yes, that would be doable with my approach...

Re: same line number keeps showing with cftrace

2007-11-27 Thread Bryan S
Now that everyone is back from the Holiday I'd like to try again.

When I use cftrace on my local IIS or Apache Cold Fusion server the line
number and file that the function was called from is displayed.

When I do the same thing on our UNIX development server it always displays
cfusion\wwwroot\WEB-INF\cftags\trace.cfm @ line: 86

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

So the .net code would then call whatever controls you wanted to use.
Or is there a complete disconnect between ColdFusion and .Net controls?

Sorry for putting out inaccurate information. :)

Actually, that won't work. CF8 can consume .NET classes etc. You have access
to the .NET framework and any .NET code you write yourself. But CF cannot
use ASP.NET controls.

I see that Vince also responded, and he is correct.

Thanks,

Using View Templates and Subtemplates

2007-11-27 Thread Richard Banister
Hello all,

In the past, I applied a global template by creating header and footer

subtemplates by Model-Glue:Unity for the view. The problem is MG:U may be
overkill for our small projects. Is there a simple solution to achieve similar
results?

CF8 Dynamic Dropdowns

2007-11-27 Thread Steve Sequenzia
Hi All,

Can I get some help figuring out how to connect two dropdowns dynamically?

I am working a shoe database and I need to allow the user to select a size from
a dropdown and then from there I need to have another dropdown called quantity
updated with the amount of quantity based on the size that is selected. All the
data is coming from a MSSQL Database and I am using ColdFusion 8.

I would like to do this via Ajax and not refresh the entire page. I know how to
do it by refreshing the entire page but not the Ajax way.

Any help on this would be great.

Thanks in advance.

just to throw another option out there... it could potentially all be

Re: Coldfusion Consuming a .Net Control

2007-11-27 Thread Vince Bonfanti
Another way to look at it, kinda, is that CF8 integrates with server side
.NET stuff, but not client side .NET stuff, like the ASP.NET UI controls.

I see the point you're trying to make, but this isn't really accurate. An
ASP.NET control is equivalent to a CFML tag, and is rendered completely on
the server. Another analogy you can make is between ASP.NET controls and JSP
taglibs, which are also rendered completely on the server. Your first statement
was more accurate (the for CF8 in parentheses was added by me):

Not really, ASP.NET is not part of the integration story (for CF8).

I'm not sure what you mean by CF8 integrates with server side .NET stuff. To
me, .NET integration in CF8 is very much like Java integration was in CF5. In
CF5, you can create Java objects via CFOBJECT, but there's no integration with
server-side Java (J2EE, or now, just JEE). Prior to CFMX, there was no
integration with J2EE servers, such as the J2EE Sessions option, or the
ability to use JSP taglibs within CFML pages. Similarly, CF8 lets you create
.NET objects via CFOBJECT, but provides no integration with ASP.NET, which is
the .NET server-side equivalent of JSP/J2EE.

Contrast this to BlueDragon.NET, which provides full integration with ASP.NET
in much the same way that CFMX (and the Java/J2EE editions of BD) provide full
integration with J2EE. BD.NET has an ASP.NET Sessions option, which allows
you to share session scope variables between CFML and ASP.NET pages, and allows
you to include (via CFINCLUDE) ASP.NET pages within CFML pages (these included
ASP.NET pages can contain ASP.NET controls, which was the original question
here). More information can be found in the BD 7.0 Integrating CFML with
ASP.NET document:

2007-11-27 Thread Rebecca Younes
To copy existing projects along with local history, copy the folder
.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resources from your workspace.

You can also copy the snippets folder. The default location is
.metadata\.plugins\org.cfeclipse.cfml\snippets, or you can check CFEclipse
preferences if they're in another location.

The good news is you should be able to go to File Import Existing
Projects into Workspace and it should import your project into your new
build (although things like the local history won't be imported.)

I've been using Crystal Reports viewed via the web for sometime. As I am
using an IIS server I've been using asp pages and it works great. I am using
a program called recrystallize (www.recrystallize.com) which is a wizard
that processes your rpt file and you need to provide the database connection
information, parameters and how you want the report to be displayed. Once
the process is completed it generates the ASP pages which you place on your
web server. I've been using it for years and it's a great tool.

Connecting to a mysql database

2007-11-27 Thread gkerby
I can't create a mysql datasource in CF Administrator.

If I use the following datasource settings in CF Administrator:

JDBC URL: jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/test
Drive Class: MySQL Connector J

AND (note the emphasis) I set my local and remote folders in my DW site
local folder, remote folder and testing server folders all to
C:\CFusionMX\db\, I can connect to my mysql database in CF Administrator.

However, with these DW site folder settings, DW doesn't recognize any
databases (Access or Mysql) at all.

When I change my DW site folder settings to 'wwwroot' (e.g.local folder
C:\CFusionMX\db\' is changed to 'C:\CFusionMX\wwwroot') DW now lists all
my CF Administrator databases.

The problem is CF Administrator can't connect to my Mysql data sources. It
gives me the error:

Connection verification failed for data source: javaserver
[]java.sql.SQLException: SQLException occurred in JDBCPool while
attempting to connect, please check your username, password, URL, and
other connectivity info.
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException: SQLException occurred in
JDBCPool while attempting to connect, please check your username,
password, URL, and other connectivity info

I've tried changing the 3306 port to 8500, but this doesn't help.

My java path and connector file is:
C:\CFusionMX\wwwroot\WEB-INF\lib\mysql-connector-java-3.0.17-ga-bin.jar,

Is this a ID/password problem? I've tried both 'root' and leaving the ID
field in the CF Administrator add data source block, both to no avail. I
don't have a password set in Mysql for 'root' either.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated. I've been working on this for
weeks and keep running into one problem after another.

Thanks a million in advance.

Sincerely,

Graham A. Kerby

Hi there

I was just looking at your product Terraform and am interested in getting some
more information on the product and possibly even purchasing it (for a future
project).

One piece of info I am after right now – is this.

I have a site developed -
http://conference.bellamedia.com.au/call_for_papers.cfm

I have forma validation working with the exception of validating the file input
box.

Could you suggest something for a quick fix so that people cannot submit the
form without including the file.

I have used Checkform from Yarromat to perform the validation on other form
elements. Can someone suggest a simple approach.

Thanks in advance.

Pete

P.S. Don’t want to really have to redo the form for just one thing.

What version of ColdFusion are you running. There is a special connector that
you may ahve to install to enable you to connect to a MySQL database.

It is the mysql-connector-odbc-3.51.21-win32 available form the MySQL website.

Download it and instal and then you also have to place a copy in a folder in
CF, the lib folder but you better check on that one.

Hope that helps a little.

The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException: SQLException occurred in
JDBCPool while attempting to connect, please check your username,

Sincerely,

Graham A. Kerby

Try this:

Change this line

if (o.type=='text'||o.type=='password'||o.type=='hidden'){

to

if (o.type=='text'||o.type=='password'||o.type=='hidden'||o.type=='file'){

And add this to your form tag

,'attachment_1','#q','0','Please upload an abstract'

After

'email','S','2','Please enter a valid email address'

OT: SQL Data Type

2007-11-27 Thread ColdFusion
What are the benefits on using a CHAR field versus VARCHAR?

I know with a CHAR(10) field that if the data is: START then the actual
value is: START_ _ _ _ _ rather than a VARCHAR(10) of START.

Well, using char can be a bit speedier when querying, but takes up more disk
space. You want to use char when all the data in that field will be close to
the same length. the db will pad it, so it ends up taking up more space than if
you used varchar and it set the length to the exact length of the data.

I just converted some varchars to char as a small optimization to an app.

RE: SQL Data Type

2007-11-27 Thread ColdFusion
But when using CHAR within a SQL Statement don't you need to use a
REPEATSTRING or a TRIM statement for proper validation so ensure that the
value in the database matches the same length of the variable itself?

I mainly use VARCHAR set to a size of the largest value expected. I only use
CHAR when I know the length will always be the same such as:
Where sex = 'M' or sex = 'F'

This case sex would have a CHAR(1).

Other than a small optimization within the query, coding would be a bit more
to account for the complete length of the string?

You've almost got it:

JDBC URL - jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/test
Driver Class - com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
Driver Name - MySQL Connector/J

HTH,

Adrian

I can't create a mysql datasource in CF Administrator.

If I use the following datasource settings in CF Administrator:

JDBC URL: jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/test
Drive Class: MySQL Connector J
