I have verified that the JSON being returned shows the correct values, but the
values that the cfinput are displaying are only the people with a first name
that starts with the value I have typed...

cfinput type=text name=full_name id=full_name message=Start typing
autosuggest=cfc:e.util.api.User.findUser({cfautosuggestvalue})

cfinvoke and Proxy Auto Configuration

2013-03-12 Thread Bill Franklin

Configuration:

So our ColdFusion 9.0.1 instance has a dedicated active directory account under
which the ColdFusion services run. It has been granted internet access by the
network guys, and the internet configuration has been setup with a proxy auto
configuration script, as our proxy servers can change based on company needs,
etc.

Using this information, how do I setup cfinvoke to connect to an external web
service?

Thanks in advance

So does that still work for Active Directory domains?

e.g. ad/username = username@ad

I ask because it isn't working either.

Unless you are dealing only with machines on your LAN, I don't know of any
reliable method to obtain the MAC of remote computers...also I believe there is
an issue with MAC address re-use, so uniqueness isn't guaranteed.

I doubt you'll find a solution that will work in 100% of the cases you could

 Hi,

I want to force logout a user if he logs in on another machine. I am
using CF9 and session scope to track user user logins. what are the
 possible ways of achieving this.

 Thanks in advance

Hi,

Thank you folks for your responses and suggestions. I spend my weekend playing
around with this app on my personal network. This is what I did. maybe this
helps someone. If you guys have some tips tricks suggestions, please let me
know.
I appreciate all you folks taking time to read and post messages.

Objective :
User should be able to login on only one machine. If he tries to login from
another machine, his old session should be terminated. I am using cf sessions
for the purpose of tracking user.

Solutions provided:
check user's IP address : This might not work very well. what is the user is
inside a network, or behind a proxy. I know my ISP in canada keeps changing the
IP address on my home network.
As Cameron mentioned CFID/CFTOKEN and that this is one single best way to
determine unique logins. and i agree with this. But what if user clears his
cache in that case his browser will get new CFID/CFTOKEN from cf server.

Roadblock:
While i was playing around with this. I started thinking is there any way that
we can get some information about user's machine, like his mac address(since we
cannot rely on ip address, cfid's, coz these might change). I googled around
with no luck and than came back to my app. But this is one thing that I will
explore later on.

What I did:
I already had logins table in my db wherein i was making entry each time user
logs in. I added two more columns here: logout_date and logout_by. These
columns will be updated when a user logs out. He can click on logout button or
he will be logged out on session end.
I also created dead_session_array and put this in application scope. Here I
will keep adding all dead sessions. (will explain this later) Scenario 1: User
logs in on machine A. entry is made in logins table but logout_date and
logout_by is empty. (If user clicks on logout i update these two columns. If
session ends I have some code in onsessionend in application.cfc which will
update these two columns. when coding inside onsessionend, make sure you read
CF documentations. since onsessionend is a self triggered CF event only
applicaiton and session scope is available inside via applicationscope and
sessionscope).
Now suppose user goes to machine B. CF will provide him with new CFID/CFTOKEN
(sessionid). when he tries to login I will check in logins table and show him a
message that this user already has a session open on another machine. Provide
him with a button (something like 'logout old session and continue logging on
this machine') When he clicks on this button I will update the logout_date and
logout_by columns in logins table for this user and I will take this
sessionid(of machine A which i got form logins table that i recorded when he
logged on machine A) and I will add this sessionid in
application.dead_session_array. So use succefully logs in on mahine B, I will
make new entry in logins table with this new login data.
Now when he goes to machine A and tries to do something. I will check if
application.dead_session_array contains any sessionid. If it does and the
sessionid matches with sessionid of machine A. logout this user simply by
clearing his session scope. There was a good link about session scope by Ben
Nadel
http://www.bennadel.com/blog/1847-Explicitly-Ending-A-ColdFusion-Session.htm.
clearing session scope does not mean that user logs out. It depends how you
design your application. In my case I simply put useObj in session scope.
clearing session scope will remove userObj from session scope. But people have
diffferent ideas and different ways of doing this.

Scenario 2: User logs in on machine A. I make an entry in logins table with
logout_date and logout_by columns

RE: Force logout a user

2012-07-06 Thread Bill Franklin

Just validate their CGI.remote_host against what is already being used for a
valid session...then force a logout of the oldest session if the same user logs
on more than once from different IP Addresses

Unique CF sessions are tracked using either CF's internal CFID/CFTOKEN or
JSessionID as a unique session identifier, depending on how you have configured
in in the administrator. These are typically stored as cookies in the visitors
browser and are the single best way to determine unique logins. The visitor's
IP address is not a reliable tacking mechanism and should NOT be used for this.

The best/simplest way that I can think of to do this is that when the user logs
into your website, store that session identifier (CFID/etc) in a database field
along with that user's record in the database. Then, on each request, check
that user's database record to see if the user's session identifier matches the
one in the database. If it does not, log them out.

This does require an extra DB hit with each request, and could be replaced by a
mechanism that lives in another shared scope like the application scope, but
that will require significantly more effort. If your app does not have heavy
load, using the database for this should be fine.

Actually, we don't output anything...ColdFusion handles it
automatically for you.  All we do is enable debugging output in CF

Do you have the option to output query information checked as well?

Also, I suspect that this might not work in CF 9 because having CFCs return
something other than the specific output format of the CFC method result (JSON,
XML, etc) could easily break the client.

I've used Charles before, but since it's an HTTP proxy, I don't see how it
would let you see the actual SQL queries being run unless the CFC were
outputting that information in some way. If that's what you need, you can use
CF's own logging facility and not use any proxy at all. If you're testing AJAX
functionality, you can use CF's JavaScript API to output items to the AJAX
debug output window directly. You can also output items to the regular
JavaScript console, which will show up in Firebug.

Actually, we don't output anything...ColdFusion handles it
automatically for you.  All we do is enable debugging output in CF
 Administrator

Do you have the option to output query information checked as well?

Charles Proxy and ColdFusion 9

2012-04-20 Thread Bill Franklin

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with getting the SQLQuery information
in response header with Charles Proxy after upgrading to ColdFusion 9. It
works correctly on ColdFusion 8, with the exact same debugging settings, but
although the header comes shows up, it does not have any of the child objects
in it. I had thought that the JSON Serialization issue, that was fixed in
ColdFusion 9.0.1 Hot Fix 2, would fix it...but alas, it did not.

TIA

Really stupid question:

I am using one of the really great colorization resources I found for CFBuilder
2 which really is helpful on my eyes with a dark background.

However:

When I type a tag like cfset Variablename = 'string' / the variablename part
displays as black text which doesn't stand out enough to me. What would I need
to set for the Variablename piece of this code be a different color.

Like I said, a very dumb question.

That's all I need for CF, yes?

Sorry for the dumb question, it's still yesterday to me. :(

Hi All,

I've written some Javascript that will dynamically add file type inputs to a
form. Or, so I thought. They show up on the page just fine when the control is
clicked. But, when I submit the form to the CF template, those form fields are
absent from the form structure. The added fields are displayed in a table that
is within the form tags. The JS code adds table rows (TR) then cells to that
row then the file inputs to the cells. All this is done using DOM methods like
appendChild(), createElement(), createTextNode(), etc. Is there some extra
step needed in either JS or CF to make sure the added fields are made part of
the form?

CF9 - SpreadsheetSetCellValue exception

2011-09-08 Thread Bill Franklin

Okay, I have a spreadsheet loaded up.

I am trying to create multiple copies of the spreadsheet on the server with
different sets of values set in them.

So, I have an index based loop..0 to 9

First run through, seems to go okay (although the formulas won't update based
on the new values, unless I manually edit the cell and press enter...haven't
looked into that yet).

Second run through, blows up on the SpreadsheetSetCellValue command. It is
setting the same cell's value to a different value on each pass through (3
cells total are getting changed on each pass).

Error is:
An exception occurred while calling the function setCellValue.
org.apache.xmlbeans.impl.values.XmlValueDisconnectedException

The error occurred in E:\http\test\test.cfm: line 19

20 :cfset SpreadsheetSetCellValue(ss,222,3,20)
21 :cfset SpreadsheetSetCellValue(ss,333,3,21)

Is the spreadsheet variable ss getting de-referenced when I perform the write
action on the cfspreadsheet (occurs on line 22, right before the /cfloop)?

Apparently, you must get a new reference to the spreadsheet after each write

Anyone know how to cause the formulas to update based on the updated data?

Hi All -

As suggested by a couple of coldfusion developers a weeks ago, I am using xml
to generate excel sheets from coldfusion. I am stuck with the following issue.

 Style ss:ID=s71
   Borders
Border ss:Position=Bottom ss:LineStyle=Continuous ss:Weight=1
 ss:Color=#00/
Border ss:Position=Left ss:LineStyle=Continuous ss:Weight=1
 ss:Color=#00/
Border ss:Position=Right ss:LineStyle=Continuous ss:Weight=1
 ss:Color=#00/
Border ss:Position=Top ss:LineStyle=Continuous ss:Weight=1
 ss:Color=#00/
   /Borders
   NumberFormat ss:Format=#,##0/
  /Style

The number format within Style tags above has pound signs which Coldfusion does
not like. Escaping them does not produce the desired result. Can anyone suggest
a work around for this issue?

Because this query does not have a random result. The result of the
outer query will always be the first row of the inner query. The
result of the inner query will be in a predictable order based on the
indexes and statistics (probably whichever row is returned first by
the index over poll_id, start_date and end_date as I suspect that will
be the driving index).

The error message you are getting is because the value of your order by
clause, newID(), is not a part of your list of values you are selecting.
You could, of course, include it in your list of values by first setting it
to a variable, like so:

declare @orderClause as uniqueidentifier;
set @orderClause = NEWID();
select distinct top 1 fieldA, fieldB, @orderClause as fieldC
from table
order by fieldC

This would get you past the error you are receiving about the ORDER BY
clause must appear in the select list. However, because every row in your
resulting recordset now has a field called fieldC with the value of your
previously generated ID, you will lost your randomness as the first row will
always be returned. Experiment on a simpler table than what you are working
with using the above code as a guide and you'll see what I mean.

I'm not sure you can do this in 1 step. I would still recommend the
temporary table (rather, the derived table as pointed out by Leigh).

RE: cf9 multiple sheet excel

2011-08-01 Thread Bill Franklin

The way we have always handled excel spreadsheet generation (CF8), has been to
take a formatted spreadsheet, save it as and XML sheet, open that XML in
Notepad, copy the XML code and paste it inside a cfsavecontent
variable=strXmlData tag...then edit the code to make it dynamic (e.g. Rows,
Columns, sheets, etc.). Then we run the following code to have it open in
Excel...

cfheader name=content-disposition value=attachment; filename=#fileName#/
cfcontent type=application/vnd.ms-excel variable=#ToBinary( ToBase64(
strXmlData.Trim().ReplaceAll( '\s+', '' ).ReplaceAll( '\s+', '' ) ) )#/

When we upgrade to CF9 next quarter, the only use I really have for the new
office functionality, is to modify existing sheets

Anyways, that's just my $0.02

cfspreadsheet action=write query=q filename=#filename#
overwrite=true
---
!--- Make a spreadsheet object ---
cfset s = spreadsheetNew()

!--- Add header row ---
cfset spreadsheetAddRow(s, Name,Beers,Vegetables,Fruits,Meats)
!--- format header ---
cfset spreadsheetFormatRow(s,
{
bold=true,
fgcolor=lemon_chiffon,
fontsize=14
},
1)

!--- Add query ---
cfset spreadsheetAddRows(s, q)
cfset SpreadsheetCreateSheet (s, EvaluationSheet)

cfheader name=content-disposition value=attachment;
filename=myexcel.xls
cfcontent type=application/msexcel
variable=#spreadsheetReadBinary(s)# reset=true

So the first sheet displays fine. To create a new sheet, I am using
spreadsheetCreateSheet. How can I add data to the sheet? I mean I can use
cfspreadsheet with action write, but I do not want to save the excel, rather
have the user save it.

RE: Method Opinion

2011-08-01 Thread Bill Franklin

I would take a look at using the MINUS union operator, and a table of poll/user
IDs that have completed the poll. MINUS should return only the records in the
first part of the query that are not in the second part of the querythe
first part being the list of candidates and the second part being the list of
completed candidates.

Alternately, you could have a table that lists the candidates also include a
status or completion date...and exclude those from an joined table.

Subject: Method Opinion

Curious as to what you all think is the best method for something. I have a
table that contains a list of polls. I have a user table that contains a list
of possible persons who may complete the poll (it requires log-in access). I
want to present a poll only one time so users can't complete a poll more than
once, so I need to maintain a list of users who have completed a poll.

I see two ways I can do this:

1. I can create a cross reference table that keeps users ID and Poll IDs (of
users/polls completed), then use an SQL NOT IN to select polls for users who
are NOT IN the completed poll table.

2. I can add a field in the POLLs record and put a delimited list of User IDs
who've complete the poll, then not select any polls where the COMPLETED field
contains the user ID of a given user.

There are about 1,500 users. There will probably be not more than 10 polls
going on at any one time. Poll history will be maintained for about 60 days.
Thus, there may be thousands of COMPLETED records.

Given that, is one of these methods better than the other, and if so, why?

Should I use a delimited list in the POLL record, or should I use a
cross-reference table with a join and NOT IN select... or should I do something
different.

Thanks

I guess so...I only get the message saying Do you want to Open or Save this
file?

Try including this and don't output anything in the code that isn't inside the
cfsavecontent...

cfsetting showdebugoutput=false

Me too. Have you figured a way to avoid Excel 2010 from producing the
message below when opening files generated in this manner?

The file you are trying to open is in a different format than specified by

Are you opening the file as *.xml, or *.xls? I open mine as *.xml...it knows
to open it as Excel.

That is Excel's extension hardening. It can only be disabled on the client
computer.

RE: What event specifically triggers OnApplicationStart?

2011-03-28 Thread Bill Franklin

On said diagnostic page, what is the value of CGI.SERVER_NAME and CGI.HTTP_HOST
when the configName's value is dev?

memory variables only timeout if they are not accessed the specified timeout
period.
every time anyone loads a page on your site, it accesses the application
scope and their session scope, so the timeout is reset back to 0.

An application will restart when ColdFusion restarts, when you reach the
applicationTimeout, if you force a restart via code or via the
CFADMIN/server monitor

To confirm my understanding, are you saying that on a very busy site, it's
possible that OnApplicationStart might never run again once the app has
started? (server admin and restarts aside.) Since the app is running fine for
months and then all of a sudden switches configs, something else then must
trigger a call to OnApplicationStart but with a screwy environment. (I'm going
to add logging to track this down but I can't predict when the problem might
happen again.)

When you say you use cgi.server_name to determine which variables to use,
are you being VERY explicity, as in the SERVER_NAME must match EXACTLY, or
are you doing an if/else to say if its this then set as live else set as dev?

My code looks like this:

configName = dev
if CGI.SERVER_NAME contains blah.com
configName = production

I can tell from a diagnostic page I have that configName's value ended up being
dev. Fixing the problem is as easy as forcing a call to OnApplicationStart by
hitting a special URL. Which makes me wonder under what circumstances
OnApplicationStart can be called without CGI being set properly. Strange.
