Kinda surprises me that so many folks use CW, and if I remember right, it has

By the time you go thru their 10,000 lines of code and queryparam

Just wanted to point out that at our community college, CF is preferred over
the others. Yes the others are taught, but they actually like CF better,
develop more in-school apps, and spend more time on it in general. I think it's
better-preached there is what I'm trying to say.

Can't figure out why these ID's aren't unique

2006-11-29 Thread Will Tomlinson
Just noticed a flaw in my store app. I'm generating what I THOUGHT were unique
ID's for carts and shoppers. They get plugged into the db for later use.

There seem to be a few records with the same ID. This ID field isn't the PK of
the table.

When the app starts, a shopper service and cart service are initialized. This
is where I'm creating the ID. I WAS using randrange() and the date appended to
it. Just changed that to timeformat() to get an exact time and maybe help this
problem out.

What's odd is I'm lookin in the cart table, and I see no such duplication. All
the ID's are unique, yet I'm using the same method to generate THOSE too.

Here's where it's created. Any ideas?

cfset APPLICATION.cartservice = CreateObject(component,
cfcs.cartservice).init(dsn=application.settings.dsn)
cfset APPLICATION.shopperservice = CreateObject(component,
cfcs.shopperservice).init(browser=CGI.http_user_agent)

cffunction name=init access=public output=false
returntype=shopperservice
  cfargument name=browser required=yes
  cfset VARIABLES.shopperStats = StructNew()
  !--- Create a shopper ID for this shopper ---
  cfset VARIABLES.shopperStats.shopperID = TimeFormat(Now(), hmmss)
DateFormat(Now(),m-dd-yy)
  !--- Setup other variables that come in from onAppStart in App.cfc ---
  cfset VARIABLES.shopperStats.shopperBrowser = ARGUMENTS.browser
 cfreturn this
/cffunction

And here's for the cartID. No problem I see with these ID's.

cffunction name=init access=public output=false returntype=cartservice
  cfargument name=dsn
  cfset VARIABLES.dsn = ARGUMENTS.dsn
  cfset VARIABLES.finalCartTotal = 0
 !--- Create a cart ID for this cart ---
 cfset VARIABLES.cartID = TimeFormat(Now(), hmmss)
DateFormat(Now(),m-dd-yy)
 cfset VARIABLES.totals = StructNew()
 cfset VARIABLES.cartItemsAdded = false

  cfreturn this
/cffunction

Thanks,
Will

Re: Question about importing into access from tab delimited txt file

2006-11-25 Thread Will Tomlinson
I tried this, however as I was typing this in I noticed that ctr was being
declared as itself.

You shouldnt hav ea problem declaring it as itself. It's more like, you're
overwriting the the previous value of it.

so if you say
cfset myname = Will
cfset mname = Steve

Then output myname, it'll of course be Steve. There's no error there.

it's the same with a number.

cfset ctr = 0
cfset ctr = 1

Output ctr and it'll be 1. No error.

Hope this helps,
Will

Re: Question about importing into access from tab delimited txt file

2006-11-24 Thread Will Tomlinson
 1. Line 1 of the txt file contains what used to be column names from
 excel. is there a way to remove line 1 so it stops inserting column
 names into my database?

Can you create a counter before your loop starts, then increment it as the loop
proceeds. cfset ctr = ctr +1
cfif ctr NEQ 1
   cfquery blahblah...

/cfif

If the ctr isn't on line 1, run the insert.

 2. Using code i'll put below, i get this error, and i am baffled.

 Here is the error:

 Invalid list index 17.
 In function ListGetAt(list, index [, delimiters]), the value of index,
 17, is not a valid as the first argument (this list has 16 elements).
 Valid indexes are in the range 1 through the number of elements in the
 list.

You need to dump this record variable and see what it looks like. It obviously
doesn't have 17 elements in it.

Cart qty discounts

2006-11-23 Thread Will Tomlinson
Hey,

I have a doozy cart requirement that has arisen.

My cart needs the ability to apply qty discounts for a given product. With my
prods, I have different SKU's listed for a given prod. i.e. Prod 1007 might
have a blu sm, blu med, blu lg, each with its own SKU, etc.

I built a quick'n'dirty version that works but it isn't perfect. I just linked
up a qty range table to tblProducts. It includes a price for a qty range that
can be applied to a product. It works, but it only works for a single sku,
because the cart isn't smart'nuff to know that other skus add up to create a
total qty for a product. Hope this is makin sense. lol!

Anyway, the end problem is as it stands now, the cart can't keep track of qty's
for a product. Just qty's for an individual SKU.
Example:
All Prod 1007 skus might be $55.00. Prod 1007's qty ranges might be:
10-20 = $50.00.
21-30 = $45.00

If someone adds 15 of the 1007.BLU.SM , the cart says it's $50.00 each. Fine,
no problem.
Then they add 10 of the 1007.BLU.MD, the cart says those are $50.00 each. OOPS!
The cart doesn't know that we have another qty of the same product already
there. It should be $45.00 each now, since all told, we now have 25 items for
this product in the cart, which should get a price of $45.00 each. it can only
keep track of the individual SKUS. If we had added 25 of the same item from the
start, it woulda calculated things correctly.

The cart should be able to calculate up each prod ID's qty's. Then it should
query the DB table and get the price for whatever price range the total falls
into. It basically should be able to keep track of a prod's total qty's at any
given time.

Am I thinking right? How would YOU do it? Do you create applyQTYDiscount()?
Call it, it works its magic, loops over the cart struct, applying the new
updated discount prices for every cart item?

Thanks much!
Will

Re: cferror on application.cfm not working (?)

2006-11-22 Thread Will Tomlinson
On testing it however (by using a .cfm file name that does not exists), I
still see the usual debug page with Error Occurred While Processing
Request message and not the error.cfm.

You'd need a missing template handler for that type of error. An error request
template won't catch it.

You'll need to create some type of code error to generate the error. But I'd
create an exception handler as well. It'll catch most errors, then the request
one kicks in if it doesn't.

Where's the culprit for these timeout/connection errors?

2006-11-16 Thread Will Tomlinson
CF7, Shared server at crystalTech, MS Access

We have a school evaluation application that gives us some timeout/connection
errors off and on. The app is usually hit by groups of students taking
evaluations at the same time. There could be as many as say, 25-50 students
evaluating at the same time.

I'm trying to pinpoint the area of the problem. The shared server? The DB? I
know it isn't the code because it runs smoothly MOST of the time. It's just
sporadic timeout/connection errors.

We also get the error occurred on line -1 errors which we discussed in
another thread. Looked mostly like a CF/Java thing.

Error Executing Database Query. [Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC Driver]TCP/IP
error, connection reset by peer. brThe error occurred on line 4.

Error Executing Database Query. Timed out trying to establish connection
brThe error occurred on line 4.

Error Executing Database Query. Timed out trying to establish connection
brThe error occurred on line 9.

Re: CFForms/XML format suddenly giving error messages

2006-11-13 Thread Will Tomlinson
The puzzle is that i dont use a XML file on this site,

No no I know you're not writing your own XML for this... I'm just sayin it
looks like CF can't find *ITS* xml file.

Other than that, I don't know anything else.

Re: CFForms/XML format suddenly giving error messages

2006-11-12 Thread Will Tomlinson
Mike,

1. I love X-Forms just as much as you. :)

2. The only time I've seen content is not allowed in prolog is when I was
trying to read/load application settings from an xml config file. If I had the
path wrong to my xml file, I got that prolog error everytime.

Maybe something changed on your server where the xml can't be read?

Just a guess...

Never seen this one...

2006-11-12 Thread Will Tomlinson
I've just never noticed this one before.

I was uploading an include page that I'd made some changes to, and I hit the
site while the file was uploading.

I got this:
Diagnostics Could not find the included template includes/footer.cfm.

Well, the file was there. I was just uploading a fresh one. Is this normal?

Thanks,

You could also use this too right? CGI.SERVER_PORT_SECURE

The variable is CGI.HTTPS and it equals either on or off. To force SSl
you can use something like

I see CGI.SERVER_PORT_SECURE which is either 1 or 0, depending on SSL, or my
local insecure server.

CGI.HTTPS shows as an empty string on my local server. If I tried evaluating
that as boolean, it'd barf at me unless I wrapped it in Val(). Am I thinkin
right?

What *NOT* to do to screw up my google rankings...

2006-11-08 Thread Will Tomlinson
I've successfully converted my old e-comm site to my new store app
(neverendingcart.cfc).

It's taken me 2+ years to achieve top-ranked pages with google and my old app.
I don't wanna screw that up with the new one.

So, what I've done is built the new one a store residing within the old one. I
figured this'd maintain much of my established text, keywords, etc.

All the main content pages will remain the same, EXCEPT the actual product
pages and checkout of course. What should I do with my old master/detail pages?
Google has quality links to those. Would it hurt to put a cflocation on them,
pointing to the new store? Placing dynamic cflocations to the matching page
in the store isn't really an option.

Anyone have any good ideas on this? Jenn?

Thanks,
Will

It sounds like you'd use a mapping for this. Create a mapping in CFAdmin that
routes to your repository, then reference it in your cfc calls.

cfset APPLICATION.cartservice = CreateObject(component,
yourmappingname.cartservice).init(dsn=application.settings.dsn)

Validating a form

2006-11-06 Thread Will Tomlinson
Hey, I sometimes use this bit of code to handle validation.

cfif Len(FORM.cardexpmonth) EQ 0 OR Len(FORM.cardexpyear) EQ 0
script
  alert (Please select a credit card expiration month/year);
  history.back();
 /script
  pYou must select a valid expiration date before submitting form/p
  pcfoutputa href=#CGI.http_referer#lt;Go back/a/cfoutput/p
  cfabort
/cfif

FORM.cardexpmonth and year are dropdown menus. If they didnt make a selection,
this script kicks in. If JS is turned off, the Text with link kicks in.

ANybody got a better way to handle this? OR is this good enough. Or is this way
incredibly tacky?

OT: In need of CSS goddess (Sandy)

2006-10-26 Thread Will Tomlinson
I'd offer a link, but this site hasn't been unleashed and I don't want google
picking it up yet.

Ok, I've been using css to show a gallery of products. Works much better than
using cf for funky tr inserts n such.

I'm having a problem on this on tho. I want the image and text to be centered.
I can make it look right in FF with a margin: 0 auto, but IE places the items
one above the other. So 5 items would all be listed one above the other instead
of side by side, then next line, side by side, then next line. I tried
text-align:center and that isn't working.

Any ideas?

 Well do this: go to dubyadubyadubya.lucky dog
volleyball.com/store/productdetail.cfm?PID=168

Maybe google can't follow that. lol!

here's my current CSS.
#suggestedproductsgallery   {
list-style-type:none;
margin: 0 auto;
margin-top: 10px;
}
#suggestedproductsgallery  li {
float:left;
margin-right:18px;
margin-bottom:10px;
font-size:70%;
color:#33;
text-align:center;
}

#suggestedproductsgallery  li a {
color:#CC;
}

#suggestedproductsgallery  li a:hover {
color:#008F00;
}

#suggestedproductsgallery  img {
display:block;
border: 1px solid #FF;
text-align:center;
}

I just noticed on our site, if you submit an authorize.net transaction with a
bogus expiration date, the transaction is still approved.

Just got off IM with a auth.net rep. Anybody ever run into this?

Thanks,
Will

Will Tomlinson: Ok, I'm running some sample transactions thru our site, and the
responses seem to be approved even if the expiration date on the card is wrong.

Will Tomlinson: I can give you a transaction # to check out

Kevin T: No, actually we don't have the ability to check that. We depend on the
credit card networks to do the security checks for us, and this is one thing
they don't usually check, oddly enough.

Kevin T: We'll make sure that the expiration date being provided hasn't already
passed, but other than that, we depend on the credit card networks to confirm
the accuracy of the expiration date instead, and they rarely seem to actually
do that.

Best way to insert text as html, without a text editor

2006-10-20 Thread Will Tomlinson
What's the simplest way to maintain simple formatted text in a db, without
using tinyMCE, FCKeditor, or typing html into the textarea? When I say simple,
I mean I just want to show line breaks, carriage returns, etc. Not worried
about boldness, tables, etc.

I just tried using paragraphFormat() and it's using uppercase P's. YUCK!

Thanks,
Will

2006-10-20 Thread Will Tomlinson
Store it in the database just as it was typed. Don?t format it.
When you output it, use...

#replace(var, '#chr(13)##chr(10)#', 'br /', 'all')#

Can't get the right path for my error template

2006-10-20 Thread Will Tomlinson
Ok, this is annoying.

I'm testing my store app within another site, on a shared server, using a
shared SSL.
The root is luckydogvolleyball. The subfolder is Store -
luckydogvolleyball/Store

The domain for the SSL is: https://www1024.ssldomain.com/luckydogvolleyball

The site works fine when you use the regular url:
www.luckydogvolleyball.com/store

But try the SSL url and my error templates can't be found. I'm using root
relative links for these:
cferror template=/Store/ErrorException.cfm type=exception
cferror template=/Store/ErrorRequest.cfm type=request

 Error attempting to resolve the template /Store/ErrorException.cfm.

What am I doin wrong here?

Thanks,
Will

Re: Can''t get the right path for my error template

2006-10-20 Thread Will Tomlinson
 Ok, this is annoying.

When you use /store, you're instructing the web server to retrieve a
document from http://www1024.ssldomain.com/store, because luckydogvolleyball
is a directory below the webroot in this case. I assume you want
/luckydogvolleyball/store/ instead. Use a relative link to the error
templates or create some sort of variable that will always hold the correct
path to the root of the site.

Well the problem with a relative link is I have subfolders with their own
Application.cfc's. It'd throw an error on those pages. Unless I dropped the
same error templates into all those directories.

The root-relative links worked, but then the problem with the SSL came up.

I guess I could use a http link but that sounds tacky.

Thanks,
Will

Authorize.net processing refunds

2006-10-14 Thread Will Tomlinson
I'm building my first refund processor for authorize.net, and it acts like it
wants the full CC # and the exp date. I do not and will not ever store these
anywhere.

The docs say you can just send the last 4 digits of the #, the trans ID, and
the amount.

not having any luck with it yet. I keep getting response code 3 and reason code
6 - Credit card is invalid.

Anybody else ever do this?

Thanks,
Will

Re: Authorize.net processing refunds

2006-10-14 Thread Will Tomlinson
Can you paste your code? (just the cfhttp)

I've been using reading the docs trying to get this to work.

cfhttp url=#ARGUMENTS.AuthNetURL# method=post
 cfhttpparam type=FormField name=x_Login
value=#VARIABLES.authorizenetsettings.AuthNetLogin#
cfhttpparam type=FormField name=x_tran_key
value=#VARIABLES.authorizenetsettings.AuthNetPassword#
cfhttpparam type=FormField name=x_version value=True
cfhttpparam type=FormField name=x_type value=AUTH_CAPTURE
cfhttpparam type=FormField name=x_Amount
value=#ARGUMENTS.refundamount#
cfhttpparam type=FormField name=x_Card_Num
value=#ARGUMENTS.last4digits#
cfhttpparam type=FormField name=x_trans_id
value=#ARGUMENTS.getorderdetails.authnettransactionID#

I'm ommitting some of the irrelevant fields. I dumped the data being
transmitted and it looks good.

Username
Trans key
Transaction ID
Amount

If I send just the last 4 digits it tells me the credit card number is invalid.

Just for the heckuvit, I tried sending a full CC #. That produced a new error.

Response code: 3 ERROR | Reason code: 33 | Text - Expiration date is required.

Expiration date? I haven't seen anything bout that being required. I talked to
auth.net support about as useful as talkin with my 11 year old about it.

I guess the next step is to pass the exp date and see if it wants the CCV code.
lol!

Thanks,
Will

Why does CF remove my leading 0's??

2006-10-13 Thread Will Tomlinson
This is driving me nuts!

No matter what I do, CF gets rid of a much-needed leading 0 in the last 4
digits of a CC #.

The variable looks good before sending it into a CFC, then I dump the
arguments, and the leading 0 is gone. I have the argument type set to string.

cfargument name=last4digits type=string

What do I do about this? Or what am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Will
