[cfaussie] Re: [OT] Image preloading check please

2006-04-24 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I don't know so can't correct you.

I thought the whole idea was that the image gets loaded in the cache
through loading it with javascript.
I might just change the two images to one image and use CSS to display
the right part of the image - cause this preloading is giving me a head
ache at the moment ;-)

Thanks.
Kind regards,

Taco Fleur

If you do that the IE bug will still make the images flicker. If you don't
want it to flicker your going to have to have everything as images and use
javascript to switch the images for you

2006-04-23 Thread Tom MacKean
My big book of _javascript_ suggests that you might need a semicolon after
var image1 = new Image() (and the other similar lines)

e.g.

scriptvar image1 = new Image();image1.src = "">var image2 = new Image();image2.src = ""
var image3 = new Image();image3.src = "">var image4 = new Image();image4.src = ""
/script

[cfaussie] Re: [OT] Image preloading check please

2006-04-23 Thread Steve Onnis

couple of things

correct me if I am wrong but preloading images only works if you use
JavaScript to switch the images, not with a style sheet. The image is
cached within the browser and is accessed through the object reference, not
the image it self.

Secondly, there is a bug in IE that images used in style sheets are not
cached, so each time you call a class for your rollover, the image is re
loaded into the browser which causes the flicker if you are using style
sheets to control your image mouse overs.
