Stus-List FULLER BRUSH PORT FREE TO A GOOD HOME
A few months ago there was a discussion about the Fuller Brush ports on many of our boats. I've finally gotten around to replacing the 5x12 opening port in the head of my 38 with a new Beckson port that has drain spouts, designed for installation in sloped sides of the cabin. Hopefully that will end the splash collected rainwater into the head each time I open the port. The old Fuller Brush port is available to anyone who needs it for parts. The opening lens is crazed after 38 years of UV exposure. But the frame , seal, and trim ring are Ok. Screen is missing. I didn't mind the crazed lens so much because it was sort of like a translucent shower door and made a little privacy when tied alongside a dock in a Marina. Contact me off list and I can mail the old port to you. Re: Stus-List FULLER BRUSH PORT FREE TO A GOOD HOME
The drains in those Beckson opening ports don't work all that well on my 35MKII... hope the slope is better on your 38...the exterior slope on my boat more than counteracts the slope on the port drains so until the residual water at the base of the opening ports dries up I always get a splash, which by now I have learned to catch with a chamois placed below the ports when I open them soon after a rain. -Original Message- From: CnC-List [mailto:cnc-list-boun...@cnc-list.com] On Behalf Of Rick Brass via CnC-List Sent: July 24, 2014 8:45 AM To: cnc-list@cnc-list.com Subject: Stus-List FULLER BRUSH PORT FREE TO A GOOD HOME A few months ago there was a discussion about the Fuller Brush ports on many of our boats. Bacon Sails gets lots of storm jobs and trysails after the distance races. They also order a bunch of new ones each year that are relatively inexpensive. Stus-List Anyone remove the helm seat?
Joel Helm seat is out on my boat. Can't imagine having it in as it is so tight behind wheel. Have a huge (44?) wheel that allows easy steering from the sides (though is a PIA to get around). So I will either stand behind wheel or sit on either coaming feet on seats. You can sit/lean behind the wheel on either side of backstay. The rudder stock doesn't really impact as your feet are in front of it. Otto is usually driving on long motors and if you are sailing you sit to the sides anyway to see telltales.. looks like PO got a couple of short stainless handrails that matched the hole pattern of the helm seat to finish off the sides of the propane lockers where the helm seat went. my solution was to buy one of those folding wheels; I love it and have kept it through three different boats...it solves all of the issues mentioned in previous emails, and you don't have to take it off and store it... Re: Stus-List Prop Grease
As stated before, I like to follow the manufacturer's recommendation and use Lubriplate 130 AA for MaxProp. It is a grease that works well on bronze parts. The base is the same for Lewmar winch grease. I opened our MaxProp this winter after 7 years on the boat, and found the metal clean, bright gold in color, and shiny. No oxidation at all.
