Re: Stus-List 2016 C Northeast Rendezvous -- Mystic Seaport, CT -- Sept 10-12, 2016

2016-06-03 Thread Robert Gallagher via CnC-List
I agree, lets get those registrations in early so we can finalize
everything at the Mystic Seaport.

They are really stepping up to the plate to help us have a great time and
we would like to return the favor. September is not a slow time for them,
they have lots of Yacht Clubs doing fall weekends and they are giving us
the entire North dock!

This will be our 5th anniversary! There is no doubt every single one has
been loads of fun. Let's make this the biggest and best Rendezvous yet.

Any questions, please don't hesitate to call or email me.

Re: Stus-List Adjustable backstay?

2016-06-03 Thread Sam Salter via CnC-List
Looking at this as an engineering problem (I don't have a 30-2) - explain what I'm missing:Top of the mast is more or less fixed (fore and aft) by the forestay. Sure, it will move back an inch or two when it takes up slack in the forestay, but mostly it's going to stay put.Baby stay puts pre bend into centre of mast‎ or at least fixes it in space, fore and aft. When backstay is tensioned won't the top move mostly down and push the middle of the mast forward, slackening the baby stay?Tensioning the forestay‎ and taking draft out of the main.Do you guys see the baby stay go slack or am I full of it???sam :-)C 26 Liquorice Ghost Lake Alberta From: allen via CnC-ListSent: Friday, June 3, 2016 7:53 PMTo: cnc-list@cnc-list.comReply To: cnc-list@cnc-list.comCc: allenSubject: Re: Stus-List Adjustable backstay?

Jake's pretty much right on.  You should have a
baby stay that will secure the mid point of the mast in space allowing backstay
adjuster to bend the mast aft and flatten the main.
Primarily you're looking to increase forestay
tension.

Your adjustable
backstay is used to control forestay tension.  You probably won’t get a lot
of mast bend, but as I recall the 30-2 had a skinny mast.  It may flatten
your main a bit too.

How do you adjust the mast rack/bend with a back stay if the

I don't see why something that has been religiously soaked in vinegar would
change by being soaked in more vinegar, so I'm not sure of the point of that
experiment. The (maybe softer, younger) solids in Mojito's headmate pump
cylinder and joker valve allowed easier pumping and less back flow following
this treatment.

Stus-List Anchor

2016-06-03 Thread ahycrace--- via CnC-List
I was at the consignment store today and I picked up a Danforth 20lb hi
tensile anchor. When I got it home and looked at it more closely I discovered
that the the rail along the top was shortened by 3" on each side (6" total). I
think this was done so it would fit in someone's anchor locker. This looks like
a good anchor but I wonder if this is a real issue. I wonder if anyone else has
heard of this being done before?

If you're getting a little backflow from the joker valve, you may
want to try running some household (white) vinegar through the
system and leaving it to soak overnight. Salt deposits build up
on the valves and vinegar helps dissolve it. It is a cheap and
very much hands-off first option.

While cleaning out Septima I came across these two pieces of what appear to be
aluminum track. They are 11" long, 1.25" wide and 5/16" deep. There's a
groove down the center lengthwise on on side and a 3/4" raised portion down the
other side.

There is 5/8" tape wrapped 3/4" in from one end on each of these. I had pix,
but they were too big for email

Anyone know what they are and what they're use for?

2016-06-03 Thread Edd Schillay via CnC-List
Listers,

Just a reminder that, in just 14 weeks, we will be having our fourth annual C
Northeast Rendezvous at the beautiful and historic Mystic Seaport. Some
highlights:

We are staying in the seaport. At night, all the guests leave and we have the
place to ourselves (and the night watchmen.)
Free dockage on Sunday if you pay for a Saturday night stay.
Private tour of the seaport, including “exhibits that are not on exhibit”.
A C planetarium show.
Group dockside dinners, boat tours, annual whiskey sharing, late night revelry,
flying Chinese lanterns, cigars, moderately foul language and all around
silliness.

Not to be missed — plan your trip now and register!

So Allendid you buy a set of genoa cars at some time? Sounds like they
are the shipping bars to keep the ball bearings in place while you transfer
them to the real track.

While cleaning out Septima I came across these two pieces of what appear to
be aluminum track. They are 11" long, 1.25" wide and 5/16" deep. There's a
groove down the center lengthwise on on side and a 3/4" raised portion down
the other side.

There is 5/8" tape wrapped 3/4" in from one end on each of these. I had
pix, but they were too big for email

Anyone know what they are and what they're use for?

Tight schedule and lousy weather this week has kept me from hooking up
Septima's new fuel tank. Will try and get that done tomorrow so we can
shakedown.

I have a collection of 4 cold plates, a 12 volt compressor and a 120 volt

120 does.

Free to anyone who can pick them up in the Annapolis area

Re: Stus-List Matching Traveller Track Dimensions 29 Mark II

2016-06-03 Thread Bruno Lachance via CnC-List
Hi Eugene,

It was the number 1 (for boats 26-36 ft), so plenty strong with the cleats on
the traveller car. I got the riser bar from a machine shop and the 1/4
thickness was just enough to clear the bridgedeck.

The Harken windward car is very nice for racing, but at the time that option
was way more expensive if i did not want to go undersized. the Lewmar worked
better than my actual original Harken with the cleats at each end of the track.
I liked that the cleats were on the car with the Lewmar traveller.

Maybe you could use an other traveller track instead for riser but i ran into
the clearance issus tightening the new track with the butyl tape oozing
out...lesson learned! It was a pain to remove, clean and run to the machine
shop at the last minute to get the riser bar and start over the installation.

the 1/4 riser keeps the track low and that was my goal. My old boat is still at
my marina, i could get a picture tomorrow if you want.

I bought my kit from this place in Canada:

Hi Bruno,
Which size did you use? They have a 0, 1 and 2, but it's not clear which would
be the best fit (guessing the 1). I'm assuming you got the aluminum riser bar
from some place like Grainger or Home Depot? I do have a drill press so that
shouldn't be an issue.
Thanks,

It works very well, it’s powerful so
you will love to play with it! i bet you were not into those pin stoppers...and
the price is good compared to a similar Harken
setup.

The installation is simple, you cut
the track to lenght, and the bolts slide into the new tracks so you can use the
existing holes. Fairly easy DIY project. I did have to had a ¼ inch thick,
alumimun
flat bar to make it clear the recessed.

Writing this i remember now the
worst was to drill that flat bar to fit existing holes… yeah without a
pressdrill it took some patience to punch and drill...

 good luck!

Thanks folks for all the advice on my marine head. I purchased the Wilcox
Crittenden Headmate kit from wet marine so wish me luck. Plan to rebuild the
pump this week-end.
Next thing I'd like to update is to put in is to replace the traveller stops
with some actual rigging. Anyone have any experience using the existing
traveller bar on their C 29 mark II with running rigging from Harken or
Ronstan? I'm hoping the track is compatible so I don't have to rebed it.
Thanks,
Gene

I solved this problem on my LF38 by buying two Harken tracks and mounting one

2016-06-03 Thread Sophia Weber via CnC-List
Hi Gene,

I don't think you can use the existing track with Harken. I have an Mk1 but I
think it is the same traveler system as the MK2s from what I remember of a
friend's mk2. I measured the track last year and it wasn't compatible. You can
use the existing holes though. I just did a complete traveler system
replacement this spring, and upgraded to the Harken windward sheeting system.
Love it!

The low profile‎ tracks holes will align with the existing holes, but the
windward sheeting car won't clear the indent/space the track sits in if you go
that route. I exchanged for a high profile track with variable spacing, and
that fit perfectly. It was an interesting installation. The trim that is below
the track on the inside is a bitch to remove, but with the right tools it is
doable. Plus remembering to put on the end caps and car before you put the
track down is recommended, otherwise you won't get them on afterwards. Ask me
how I know... ;)

If you're interested in the windward sheeting car from Harken, I do have a
second brand new packaged one for sale (part no 1635) as I hard ordered one, it
disappeared en route, ordered another, and then both showed up and they were
not returnable.

Good luck,

Stus-List Matching Traveller Track Dimensions 29 Mark II

2016-06-03 Thread O'Keeffe Thomas via CnC-List
Garhauer is another option. Another lister figured out a way to have Garhauer
modify their MT-1 system to fit the 29-2.  The issues were the narrowness of
the channel in the bridge deck in which the traveller sits and the need to
raise their standard track by 1/4".  I went for a variation of his idea (I
wanted the cam cleats on the car, the other lister on the coaming).  If you're
interested I can forward off-list an email thread.
