Re: Stus-List Need to replace forward hatch on 35 mkIII

2020-05-04 Thread Matthew Schlanger via CnC-List
I was liking the idea of Lewmar.

And I think the low profiles look great but I don’t see access from top side
which the fore-deck guys likes to have to get spinnakers in and out easily
without having to go below.

When you say easy drop in on Lewmars, I assume I would need to rip out and
replace the frame that attaches to the deck. I was thinking of trying to just
change out the hatch first. A friend told me of his troubles trying to get the
frame off the deck. If it’s a direct replacement the hinges would match? I
don’t think I can do that with a Lewmar based on the diagrams I saw. My issue
is the hatch itself, I suspect no water is coming in from the bottom frame.

I have a couple of emails into Atkins and Hoyle though I have not heard back
yet. I’ll keep on them.

Again thanks to all. The collective wisdom is amazing.

Stus-List Drywall sander

2020-05-04 Thread Bill Coleman via CnC-List
I was sanding the bottom this weekend with a drywall sander pad on a stick.
And it was sure a lot easier than holding a sander over my head. And that
crocus cloth material for sanding really holds up well and doesn't gum up.
But the pad kept flipping over and was annoying at times . And I was
wondering if there was a more professional pad, so I googled, and found
rotary Sanders with vacuum. Does anyone know anyone using something like
this?

Re: Stus-List Spring Fever

2020-05-04 Thread CHARLES SCHEAFFER via CnC-List
Just worked at our Maryland boatyard for two days. The boatyard closed to
owners for a month and finally reopened but only when the yard workers are not
there. They allow owners in now, on weekends only. Everyone was competing for
water and power but respectful, wearing masks, keeping distance, helping each
other where possible, but staying apart. I saw this possibility a month ago,
but the yard wouldn't ease their rule, even when other boatyards in the area
remained open.

I expect more relaxed conditions sooner than later if we act smart. Respect
other's space by wearing a mask when near someone else. That won't be forever,
just until things improve a little. Things are improving, but it's too soon to
shake hands, litteraly. Act smart. Stay safe. I think some better guidelines
for racing with crew will come out from smarter minds and I look forward to
that. Maybe testing will become more common like flu shots did.

Re: Stus-List Spring Fever

2020-05-04 Thread Rod Stright via CnC-List
Here it is Russ,

https://www.tc.gc.ca/documents/2019-2020-AA-36-COVID-19_SOCIAL_DISTANCING_BOATERS_17x11_EN_V05_ACC.PDF

The problem I have with the social distancing guidelines is that there is no
provision for safety concerns or variations for the length of the vessel. As
you are no doubt aware the safety requirements are based upon vessel length but
with these guidelines there is no provision for the length of the vessel. So
on a larger vessel, where you could maintain social or physical distancing and
safely operate the vessel with a few crew the guidelines seem overly
restrictive. Here the current limit for gatherings is 5 at the present time.

The image of a canoe doesn’t do a lot for the credibility of this poster.

I assume as these are guidelines only they are not legally binding and do not
override safety considerations; however, it seems none of the sailing
associations do anything to challenge these guidelines, they just accept them.

Hi Rod,

Do you have a link for that Transport Canada notice?

I can't find anything about it... seems kinda odd though, being as small
boats are typically a provincial jurisdiction. Although there are a ton of tiny
bureaucrats jumping on this covid flu thing to enhance their own importance.

We had the RCMP at some boat ramps discouraging people from going out to fish
at the same time the Chief Public Health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, was telling
people to get outside.

Weird times indeed. It might be time to regain some of our rights since the
hospitals are empty and not overwhelming them was the whole purpose of lockdown.

 Cheers, Russ
