You don’t actually mention which keel you have There were three factory configurations Standard. 88” Winged keel 66” Centreboard 54” Now when you say you measured … is it you measured from the boot line or your actual “scum” line ? Then it also depends on how much you carry. The factory numbers are an empty boat….. That is not to say that a boat can't blow over in a cradle, there are tons of poorly designed cradles, or poorly maintained cradles around. I have made several over the years, and just this fall got roped into revamping a Catalina 36 cradle. He gave me the original drawings for the cradle, I couldn't believe it was an original design by Catalina - the whole thing, even the longitudinal stringers were only 4" channel, which, after being picked up by the ends, which is how they move cradles here, it sagged down about 6". So it got two new 8" I beams longitudinally and two crosswise under the keel. I would have made it more than 8 feet wide, but the dockmaster told me it couldn't be more than that. The point here, I guess is to get a good cradle. There are a few down at our club that are an amazing design. They are made by Viking Trailers, in Butler, PA, Unfortunately , they don't have any pictures on their site of them, if anyone is interested I can send a picture. There are four uprights per side, all adjustable in, out, and up, and also have fold down flaps to stabilize it up to 12' wide. Really well thought out. Stus-List Rob Ball obit
Robert Wilson Ball, age 79 (August 24, 1943 – September 9, 2022) loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was an engaged husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who cared deeply for the people in his life. Rob caught the sailing bug early and devoted much of his life to the sport - both as an active sailor and all-around sailing booster himself, and professionally as the Chief Designer for C Yachts, Naval Architect for Concordia Custom Yachts and Chief Engineer for Edson International. He was an avid hockey player in his school and university years, and then took up running late in life, completing several competitive runs and a half marathon. He loved his Irish setter dogs and was the world’s biggest ABBA fan. He was passionate about the color green, and he treated every Thursday as ‘Green day’. He wore green with pride whenever possible, and encouraged using it in any and all décor. Always adventurous and thirsty for knowledge, Rob lived in both Canada and the US, but never lost his Canadian roots or citizenship. He ventured all over the world for both work and family adventures, considered his socks and Birkenstocks a fashion statement, and loved to share stories about the things he had seen. He loved good food – homecooked or in restaurants, and always welcomed a great view of the water or the sunset with a glass of fine cabernet in hand. Rob is survived by his wife Pat, his sisters Mary Dodd (John) and Barb Watson, his three children Bria Knowles (Michael), Dayton Ball (Lauren) and Kira L’Heureux (Dalton), and four grandchildren Emmett, Oliver, Keenan and Arlo. He would also likely mention his dog Cabi (short for Cabernet) and begrudgingly his wife’s two cats Tia and Tetley. Rob’s family will be welcoming guests for a celebration of his life at the New Bedford Yacht Club on Tuesday, September 13, drop in reception at 10:10am, service at 11:11am. Rob would of course encourage everyone to wear green! There will be an Ontario, Canada celebration at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to New Bedford Community Boating in his honor. www.candcyachts.com Motion Designs Limited 647 990 7752
Stus-List Re: Eight Bells for Rob Ball
Yes, Rob Ball passed away yesterday morning. I spoke with Pat his wife yesterday. He had contracted pneumonia from a fall on a dock that broke 4 ribs and punctured his lung. I’m always amazed how much credit my Dad got for the look of C boats and Rob would always credit him for his guidance but Rob certainly came in to his own and after taking over head designer in 1973 led the design department for 17 years till 1990. So GHC was head designer of C Yachts Limited for 4 years and Rob for 17. His contribution to the look and feel of the boats we love is immeasurable. In February 1976, the initial models built at Rhode Island were the 24, 26 and 29 Page 30, The Pursuit of Excellence The Landfall 42 was project 76-1 so it wouldn’t be built till mid or late 76 with the Landfall 38 ( 78-13 ) being added in late 78 , early 79 Now what I’ve wondered is how much the “Jones Act” influenced the decision to build Landfalls in the US, if they were going to used as commercial charter vessels or was it just closer to the intended market. I’ve read somewhere that suggestion but I don’t know how valid that is JKC www.candcyachts.com Motion Designs Limited 647 990 7752

Stus-List Re: Hull number serial number identification country of manufacture
I have come across many examples of C HIN that do not follow the “rules” so to say this means that, I can find an example of the opposite. Some has to do with the USCG trying to standardize. Some has to do with where they were built. Some has to do with when the model was started. Some has to do with a shift of location of where the hull was built …. So just saying the HIN does not guarantee that it indicates where it was built JKC www.candcyachts.com Motion Designs Limited 647 990 7752 > On Jun 23, 2022, at 5:38 PM, CHARLES SCHEAFFER via CnC-List > wrote: > > > John, > Is what I was told long ago, that Niagra-On-The-Lake used "ZCC" in the HIN, > and Rhode Island used "CCY", is not true? > > Maybe there was an overlap and boats started at one facility were finished at > another, or boats built for a certain country were given the most appropriate > HIN to meet certain tax law advantages for the country of the particular > buyer??? > > > Chuck S, Resolute 1989 C 34R > >> On 06/23/2022 3:46 PM Dan via CnC-List wrote: >> >> >> Thanks for the link to the Hull number lookup - exactly what I was looking >> for. >> >> I'm not near the boat right now but I do have the aluminum plaque in the >> cockpit that simply says "C"... not sure if "made in the usa" is below >> it... and inside the boat there IS a small wooden plaque over the v-berth >> door but I don't think it is a maker's plaque. >> >> I'm still not able to pinpoint or prove where exactly my C was made >> although the history is pointing to Rhode Island as the boat was >> manufactured in August 1985 for the 1986 line. Nothing in the HIN will identify where your boat was built. ZCC and CCY where both used in each plant Look for a builder’s plaque, which I suspect you haven’t found. The other way is to find Hulls near yours to see where they were built The project #84-1, 44 was originally built in Rhode Island as you noted in 85 and “coming to Canada” in 86 after Rhode Island was shut down November 85 JKC www.candcyachts.com Motion Designs Limited 647 990 7752

Sorry, we’re still sorting out the half model process and those were photos that we had of them. I had to launch the website at some point …. So if I was you :-). I’d wait till a finished model is posted and it can be exactly what you want before ordering Also the manufacturing process is also taking longer because believe it or not the cove stripes have come back twice incorrect…. Excuses excuses. :-( But just keep checking in and I’ll try to notify you when we are at full speed Thanks for your patience JohnKelly Cuthbertson www.candcyachts.com Motion Designs Limited 647 990 7752 > On Jun 3, 2022, at 7:57 AM, Della Barba, Joe via CnC-List > wrote: > > Why does the 35 MK I half-hull have no rudder?
