Stus-List Furling Spinnaker

2020-07-19 Thread Patrick Gateley via CnC-List
Hi all,

We've got boat envy. Our neighbor just installed a Harken top-down furler with
a nice code zero and it looks awesome! He is single-handing his 43' Hans
Christian cutter/ketch with ease. Does anyone have experience with these sorts
of systems? Lots of manufacturers out there...

Thanks

Re: Stus-List Listers Age Range

My wife is 35 and I'm 36. She's the true sailor. We got out first boat together
5 years ago (1984 C 35 Mk 3). We moved up to a 1988 C 44 last summer.

Kari's boating history over the past decade includes:

Chrysler 22
Newport 30
Tartan 41

She has our entire world travelling planned out thought it might take us some
years to get started.

Stus-List Matching non-skid during deck repairs

2020-06-25 Thread Patrick Gateley via CnC-List
Hello,

I am doing some deck repairs and I realized I'm not certain how to recreate the
non-skid look. I found a boat forum post that is from an old C service tech
and he claims that in the factory they applied the gel coat, then used a roller
brush of some sort to create this effect.

Any advice would be appreciated.

P.S. I am aware of a variety of non-skid products but would like to match the
OEM process as close as possible.

Stus-List Propane locker improvements/repair

2020-06-15 Thread Patrick Gateley via CnC-List
Hello,

My wife and I own a 1988 C 44' and would like to make some improvements to
the propane locker. As you can see from this photo
, there is evidence of a fair
amount of corrosion to both the terminal block that supplies the solenoid as
well as rust stains on the bottom. I started exploring separating the well from
the flange and after cutting away a fair amount of sealant and removing all
screws, it will not budge.

My intent is to run a new hose from my stove directly into the locker, add a
second drain hole because standing water accumulates on the aft side, and
replace the existing drain fitting with a new hose & Y valve. Ideally, I do not
want to damage the flange to remove this. Any suggestions on how to break the
bond between this flange and well?

Stus-List Engine compartment bilge pump and blower

2019-09-27 Thread Patrick Gateley via CnC-List
Noticed the other day that my engine compartment bilge pump and blower have
stopped working. I suspect a fuse but don't really know where to look. The
bilge pump and blower switches are both port of the stairs and within a couple
inches of one another. Anyone know where to start troubleshooting? I've got a
decent multimeter and some electrical know how

Stus-List Survey recommendations (1988 C 44)

2019-07-25 Thread Patrick Gateley via CnC-List
Hi listers,

My wife and I recently acquired "Odessa", a 1988 C 44 and we are going over
the mechanical inspection / survey recs. They are as follows:

> 1. Replace seal washer on transmission dipstick.

I'm a pretty handy individual but my expertise is primarily electrical. I'm
wondering which of these would be best done myself, and which I should hire
out. We're fortunate enough to have Gallery Marine just a few blocks from our
marina here in Seattle so I'm sure they'd be happy to do some of this ($135/hr
though).

Thanks in advance for your input,

Re: Stus-List Help needed C 44

2019-06-02 Thread Patrick Gateley via CnC-List
Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the quick response. The customs broker claims the HIN just states
the manufacturer and not actual place of origin. I personally think they're
being a bit too onery about all this. I'm hoping for a manual or brochure that
says something like "proudly built in Canada/US"

Hello,

I'm in the process of purchasing a 1988 C 44 and my customs broker is giving
me a hard time about its place of manufacturing. As far as I can tell, all C
44s after the prototype were built in Middletown, Rhode Island. Does anyone
know how I can prove this to the broker?

Thanks so much,
