[cobirds] Ken Caryl Valley / Littleton, JeffCo 5/20

2016-05-20 Thread David Suddjian
A *Willow Flycatcher* was along Massey Draw in Ken Caryl Valley below my
home in the same spot as the recent Prairie Warbler.

A male *Great-tailed Grackle* was along Ken Caryl Avenue near Estes, a
short way east of Kipling, Littleton.

An adult *Golden Eagle* seemed out of place flying north over suburbia
flying at Mineral x Platte Canyon in Littleton, complete with a train of
mobbing Red-wingeds and crows,

And my favorite for the day, as I was on the porch sipping wine and
watching the moon rise, a *Virginia Rail* began to give "tick-et" calls
from the marshy area of Massey Draw below my home. #156 for the yard list.

CO Birders :

In addition to Brandon's post on birds at Chico Basin Ranch this morning ,
I observed an immature female Vermilion Flycatcher ( photo taken ) at the south
end of the alfalfa field on the barbwire fence line for about 5 minutes . Bird
was not relocated half an hour later . And this location is definitely in
PUEBLO county .

2016-05-20 Thread 'Brandon K. Percival' via Colorado Birds
A singing male Yellow-throated Warbler was at Rose Pond, at Chico Basin Ranch
(fee area), today.  Many photos were taken by several people.  Maybe it will
stay for the Pikes Peak Birding Festival trips tomorrow and Sunday.  A male
Eastern Bluebird was also seen at Rose Pond and a Red-necked Phalarope was seen
at Headquarters Pond today.  All these locations are in Pueblo County.

Hi all:

Golden-winged Warbler was removed from the state's review list in 2002 due to
climbing occurrence rate (and partly to ease of ID).  However, it was returned
to the review list not too many years later when the bottom dropped out on
occurrences.  Since about four bazillion people saw the recent Golden-winged at
the Stulp residence, the CBRC would greatly appreciate at least one or two
bazillion of those observers to document the occurrence to the CBRC.  The
process is easy and mostly painless (http://coloradobirdrecords.org/Reporting/).

[cobirds] Pawnee Grasslands, Weld County

2016-05-20 Thread buntingrobinjay

Sorry of the late post, I had to go straight to class after
visiting the grasslands. I found Crow Valley to be partly closed but not
closed as I heard on the news (they must have misspoke and meant partly
closed.) According to some of the birders I spoke to their it was less
flooded then last week and less birdy then last week. So I found very few
warblers except a few Yellow Warblers, on Yellow Rump (Audubon’s) and one
Norther Waterthrush at the flooded group picnic ground. Also present where
many thrushes, mostly Swanson’s and Robins, but I also found 1 *Veery* and
on *Hermit* which was feeding at the closed flooded road, and swimming on
the flooded road was on Blue Wing Teal.

I also toured the auto tour and found two Burrowing Owls
just before stop four, about a quarter mile before this stop. Present in
strong numbers were Meadow Larks, Lark Buntings, and Horned Larks. I found
one female Chestnut Collard Longspur on a fence between stop 6 and 7 and a
McCown’s Longspur at stop 10. Here are my checklists from this day,
