[cobirds]

2020-08-10 Thread Norma J. Erickson
My yard is almost empty of birds. The few House Sparrows have been missing for
several days. Only a few House Finches now and then. If my neighbor wasn't
seeing birds along the farm road out back I would really be worried. There was
aerial spraying of the corn field out back about three days ago. This is very
unusual for my yard. I live at the intersection of 392 and WCR 35 north of
Greeley.
Added note I stopped feeding for about a week due to flocks of black birds.
Feeders are full again.

Yesterday evening about 6:30 PM I saw a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher in the Pawnee
National Grasslands west of the intersection of 94 and 63 sitting in a tree on
the south side of the road. There is and an old corral just to the south of
the trees and a ranch house to west about a quarter of a mile. It sat very
quietly, maybe a little tired.

[cobirds] From my window this week Wesd Co.

2013-05-21 Thread Norma J. Erickson
This does not compare to the CFO convention, but I have had some of the most
colorful birds the past 2 weeks that I can remember for my yard. Even the winds
of yesterday and today did not turn them all away.
Male and Female Bullocks Oriole at the feeders and in the peonie bush
continuously.
Black-headed Grosbeak Male in the dandilion patch, eating seeds.
7 colorful male Goldfinches flashing their colors at the feeders Females too
continuously.
The flock of Pine Siskins at the feeders and water with their sqeeky call and
acrobatic feeding habits.
Lazuli Bunting. male and female, here for a week. Just spending time near the
window where I can admire them.
Black and White Warbler comes in secretly to the water along with the
McGillivray's Warbler.
Last weeks' distant memory of the Black-throated Gray Warbler and the Chat.
Swainson's Thrush and Catbirds skulk around in the bushes.
Gone but not forgotten are the Yellow, Yellow-rumped, Orange-crowned and
Blue-grey Gnatchatchers.
The Red-breasted Nuthatch showed up today again along with a Plumbeous Vireo.
Black-capped Chickadee still showing at the water and feeding very quietly.
Find it hard to leave my window to attend to my daily life.

Coming home tonight at 5:30 PM I was surprised to have a Cooper's Hawk sitting
in my Choke Cherry tree. The bird was very calm and undisturbed by my car.
Probably hungry. I drove very slowly into the drive-way to withing 30 feet from
it. Juvenile, brown color, with reddish streaks on breast and belly. It was
quite big. What a bird when he stretched and fanned his wing and tail
feathers. Have had a Sharp-shined off and on for several weeks but it is much
smaller.
