Pella Crossing is in Hygiene (West of Longmont along Hwy 66 then south on
75th st.). The lake they are talking about is at these coordinates...
40°11'14.8"N 105°10'49.0"W ( 40.187438, -105.180282 ). You park in the
Pella Crossing parking lot on the east of 75th street and walk the trails
to the west.

This is in Boulder County, and Pella Crossing is west of Longmont. Swans
were first seen yesterday, and continued into late this morning, when I

2016-01-03 Thread Susan Wise
Had to go down to Chatfield today - Sunday 01/03/16.
730 am - Stanley Lake - no Trumpeter Swans.
815 am - South Platte Reservoir - no Trumpeter Swans.
Did the volunteer gig and on way back reversed above.
200 pm - South Platte Reservoir - no Trumpeter Swans.
300 pm - Stanley Lake - no Trumpeter Swans.
Lots of other fantastic viewing opportunities including watching an
American Dipper bob up and down and scuba for quite some time.
And watched the lobed feet of two American Coots which cracked us up!
And an odd ball Pied-billed Grebe that just didn't look right.

[cobirds] Re: Trumpeter?

2016-01-02 Thread Adam Vesely
They weren't there yesterday when I was there around 1:30. I don't think
they were seen at all yesterday. The reservoir is big (I'd recommend a
scope), but it would be pretty obvious if they were there, especially since
a good portion of the reservoir is frozen. There is a trail that skirts
the south side of the reservoir, with parking near the southwest and
southeast corners of the reservoir.

[cobirds] Re: Trumpeter Swans, Jefferson Cty (Evergreen)

2013-01-03 Thread Liam Roark
First post, not sure if it's okay to just jump in here like this, but I
have information on this sighting.

First off, yes, this is Jeffco. I just got back from this location and
they're still there. The pond is the Hiwan Number 4 Reservoir, and it's
very easy access (I-70 W - exit 352 to Evergreen Parkway/Hwy 74 - right
on Squaw Pass - pond is a mile up the road on the left, in a
valley/depression behind a fence) if you've never seen a Trumpeter before
and want to! However, a nice woman driving by stopped and chatted with me
for a few minutes about them, and there's some information everyone should
have:

1) They 'live there', apparently. I don't know whether that means fully
domesticated or just semi-wild befriended regulars, but if you pull up the
reservoir on Google Maps and zoom all the way in, you can actually see them
in the satellite imagery, on the far left side of the pond, so they've
obviously been there a while.

2) As of this morning they've started wandering out onto the road; the
neighbors suspect the water pump is having problems in the cold and they're
wandering looking for water. So take care driving in the area.

 Hi all,

While visiting family in Denver, on Jan. 2 while driving down from Echo

think, just S of I-70 near/in Evergreen, 3 Trumpeter Swan were seen sitting
in ice of a small pond about 1 mile west of those highway intersections,
just beyond a signed Wildlife Viewing area Elk meadow. Pond is on left side
 close to road.

I don't know the area myself, but I believe this is in Jefferson County.
If I'm mistaken please feel free to correct.

As of 10am on the 10th, there are still 5 Trumpeters on the lake. They

The wind had them close to the road, seaking shelter on the west side
of the lake.  They were in a position offering nice views - if you can
 remain standing!

 Good birding!
