Re: Cocoon-2.0.2 - Status of the Demo Samples

2002-03-27 Thread Bert Van Kets

The employee database which is a part of the
samples has NEVER worked correctly and as you probably
know many many postings have been sent to the
cocoon-users mailing list about this.

I greatly appreciate the work and complexity
of the product and the time and effort that has been
put in by so many people from Stefano downwards.

Non-Working examples distributed with the
release make it quite difficult for users like me
to demo this to the powers-that-decide within the
organisations we work for, to incorporate cocoon into
our products.

I have only been working with Cocoon with the last four months, but I must
say ALL the examples worked for me (both binary and CVS HEAD distributions)
ever since version 2.0rc1a. The only exceptions are unfinished scratchpad
samples, but that's normal.
I'm using Win2K, JDK 1.3.1 and Tomcat 4.0.1.

Please provide your setup, so your remark is more meaningful.
Bert

RE: Cocoon-2.0.2 - Status of the Demo Samples

 Hi
I tried to send this directly to
Carsten Ziegeler, but the email was rejected
 with this message:
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
212.8.217.2 failed after I sent the message.
Remote host said: 552 Error: content rejected
and so I am posting it to the users group hoping that
it will get to the developers and those with write
access to the Cocoon CVS repository.

FYI: This kind of messages are better be sent to cocoon-dev list.

I have been an ardent user of the Cocoon software
for about 2 years and I have used and incorporated
it on our intranet projects on various occasions
and at every opportunity that I get.

But I am quite saddened by the non-working
examples in the newer releases of Cocoon. For example,
people including myself are quite interested in
interfacing with a database ie MySQL, PostgreSQL,
 hypersonicSQL, Xindice etc.

Which part exactly didn't work for you? There were wrong behavior some
times, but the main idea of that sample was to show how to interact with a
database and I think that the sample is good enough for that.

I am absolutely agree with this part. As I could notice the only non-working
example was JSP part, which I am trying to solve right now. The others
worked anusually fine, including the newest POI samples.

Please do not think I am complaining, but I am
just trying to suggest that good-solid-working-examples
right out of the box would be the greatest selling point of
cocoon, so that users and integrators like me will be
able to demo it to our boss and use it in our daily work.

And, remember, I greatly respect and thank all the developers
of the product, this is just a suggestion to make it better.

Would you please provide us with your platform details? Particularly, what
server do you use, what is your OS, JDK version, and everything else that
can be relevant.

Regards,
Konstantin Piroumian
