What I also like in Qtopia's keyboard is ability to switch between number, symbol and letters keyboard by moving you finger down or up on keyboard. Obviously T9 will not be implemented due to patent issues. I will ask him if the source is available anywhere. T9 is not necessary important (i.e. I do not use english on my phone so probably I would need to hack it to include polish T9 database). GTK/Qt/etc is the GUI. You can call e.g. Angstrom the Operating system, but also it is the Distribution. It is not clear what should be called OS in this environment, but for sure Linux is NOT an OS. Hmm, others think different. Check out wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux (first sentence): Linux (pronunciation: IPA: /ˈlɪnʊks/, lin-uks) is a Unix-like computer operating system. Fwd: OpenMoko development under MacOS X
-- Forwarded message -- From: Krzysztof Kajkowski [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: 22-06-2007 19:29 Subject: Re: OpenMoko development under MacOS X To: openmoko-devel [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2007/6/22, Fabien Fleutot [EMAIL PROTECTED]: I'm also trying to get qemu to work on OSX, without much success. Had you better luck? Hi! I have not enough knowlege to make it work. No one else seems to be interested either so I guess this is not going to work ;( Why can't we swich to gcc-4.0 in qemu? cayco On 5/13/07, Krzysztof Kajkowski [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello everyone! There was some discussion on the lists some time ago and I wanted to check if anything has changed. I've made some quick research on subject of developing OpenMoko apps on MacOS X. It appears that we could run MakoMakefile: http://www.quantum-step.com/download/OpenMoko-Edition/oe That's great! I checked if there is any possibility to run QEMU's Neo1973 port on Mac but it seems not possible right now. Compiling it as written on http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/OpenMoko_under_QEMU does not work because it requires gcc-3.3 which seems to be broken on MacOS - http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/macports-users/2007-February/001593.html Compiling ends up with error: gcc-3.3: installation problem, cannot exec `cc1': No such file or directory Compiling neo1973 qemu with gcc-4.0: ./configure --target-list=arm-softmmu --cc=/usr/bin/gcc-4.0 --disable-gcc-check gives you: dyngen.c: In function 'gen_code': dyngen.c:1853: error: 'struct relocation_info' has no member named 'r_offset' dyngen.c:1854: error: 'struct relocation_info' has no member named 'r_offset' dyngen.c:1858: error: 'struct relocation_info' has no member named 'r_offset' dyngen.c:1872: error: 'struct relocation_info' has no member named 'r_offset' dyngen.c:1915:2: error: #error unsupport object format dyngen.c:1849: warning: unused variable 'type' make: *** [dyngen] Error 1 But there is project: http://www.kju-app.org/kju/ that manages to compile and run (very well) qemu under MacOS X. They are using standart XCode Developer Tools so this could mean gcc-4.0. I would be great if someone with grater knowledge on the subject could combine kju and neo1973 emulators to make such emulator possible. Re: Yet another finger keybord (gui mock-up).
I find this idea interesting but I thought of some modification - what about using there full QWERTY keyboard? There could be something like miniature keyboard displayed at the buttom but in QWERTY layout. You could use thumbs to press keys (more accuartely: areas where keys are - your thumb would press more than one key at a time). On each key press, the part of keyboard that you pressed could be zoomed and you would be able to choose the key you wanted to enter (keys would be bigger now because they lay in zoomed aread). That could be pretty fast way of inserting data, using your thumbs, on small screen keyboard. cayco ___ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
Re: Possible security hole for Dialers/troyan horses
2007/3/1, Bartlomiej Zdanowski AutoGuard Ltd. [EMAIL PROTECTED]: THAT IS THE PROBLEM. Bigger than phone theft. That's why commercial phone manufacturers don't allow to access all the phone for java apps. To disallow hidden calls and smses. IMHO this is not main reason why commercial manufacturers don't allow access all phone for java apps but this is not the point. We have similiar situation in Linux - we can download software from net, install it (even on user account) and run it without knowing that it makes some nasty stuff in the background (for example sending spams). Such trojan are not so popular, why? I think it's because openess of Linux and it's apps and that they are not spreading automaticly. As for the first reason - most of us don't bother to download closed source apps for linux. If we do, we download it from big vendors such as Sun, VMware etc. I doubt if anyone would be stupid enough to run binary from unknown source. Second reason if that trojan which requires human to spread are not likely to emerge in big numbers (epidemic). I think that such appilcations (dialers etc) are not likely to wide spread. Main source for applications for OpenMoko will be official repositories and GSM providers. For first source we would have source code to review. On the other hand GSM operators and other software vendors should not add malware to its apps - it would kill them in the long run. However there might be such attempts to create GSM trojans and we should be aware to enable user to protect itself. The question is how to do that? What do you think? cayco ___ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Actuali is it 'polish' forum ;) They write there that such 3600mAh batterries are unrealistic - those sellers make that stickers themselves so that batteries look as 3600mAh. About that Li-Pol battery, someone writes that it is some bigger that original from Nokia. Re: Itch3: Anti-lost/theft protection
2007/2/27, Aloril [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Idea is keep thief using phone until police arrives and recovers it. Yeah, and maybe call nearest SWAT team to clear the area :-P I doubt if police would bother in chasing thief for one phone (at least where I live). They should at least have some warrant ;-) To be serious I would rather do not want that thief could tallk on my bill. Better solution would be to pretend that phone is turned off and silently sent GPS coords. cayco ___ OpenMoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

2007/2/20, larpoux [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Hi, A few questions about USB connectivity Hi! Excuse me for not replying on each of your questions but try to answer yourself ;) Basically your Neo1973 phone would be running linux with kernel 2.6.x so all modules should work on your phone just like on your desktop (if hardware allows of course).
