For me it's also finger-usable keyboard - just like the one in Qtopia.

Chris has worked on a multi-tap input method:

http://chrislord.net/blog/Software/multitap-pad.enlighten

That's wonderful news! What I also like in Qtopia's keyboard is
ability to switch between number, symbol and letters keyboard by
moving you finger down or up on keyboard.

Obviously T9 will not be implemented due to patent issues. I will ask
him if the source is available anywhere.

T9 is not necessary important (i.e. I do not use english on my phone
so probably I would need to hack it to include polish T9 database). It
is useful in SMSes but not on writing URLs or console ;)

Thx for giving us notice! I am wondering if you could help me on some
quirks that holds Qtopia one step back from being perfect :)

- Is it possible now to dial numer while viewing calls list (i.e.
missed calls). In last image you could not do it from there - you had
to select open contact, find desired number and select it to call.

- How to turn off predictive keyboard? I want to use this keyboard (it
is very nice to use with fingers) but I do not want to use english

- How can I use Sync Agent for qtopia 4.3? I couldn't find any pre-

find version for MacOS X.

Maybe some else could guide me on these topics?

Don't feed the troll... ... ... ... Oh, I really have to!
Linux is a kernel. GTK/Qt/etc is the GUI. You can call e.g. Angstrom
the Operating system, but also it is the Distribution. It is not clear
what should be called OS in this environment, but for sure Linux is
NOT an OS.

Hmm, others think different. Check out wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux
 (first sentence):

Linux (pronunciation: IPA: /ˈlɪnʊks/, lin-uks) is a Unix-like
computer operating system.

Also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operating_system: An operating
system (OS) is the software that manages the sharing of the resources
of a computer and provides programmers with an interface used to
access those resources. So kernel matches this definition perfectly.

dfu-util on Mac OS X

2007-07-28 Thread Krzysztof Kajkowski
Hi! I managed to compile dfu-util on my Mac. Here's very short (and dirty) hack:

First install libusb: sudo port install libusb

Get dfu-util: svn co http://svn.openmoko.org/trunk/src/host/dfu-util/

run ./autogen.sh

Then, for some reason, my libusb lib was not detected. I needed to set
my paths by hand:

comment out line 18 and 19 in configure.ac:
#PKG_CHECK_MODULES(USB, libusb = 0.1.4,,
#AC_MSG_ERROR([*** Required libusb = 0.1.4 not installed ***]))

and add libusb libs manually to line 20, so it looks like:
LIBS=$LIBS -L/opt/local/lib -lusb -Wl,-framework -Wl,IOKit
-Wl,-framework -Wl,CoreFoundation -Wl,-prebind -I/opt/local/include

run ./configure

goto src and:
comment out dfu static because this is not supported on Mac:
dfu_util_static_LDFLAGS = #-static

add lib by hand:
DEFAULT_INCLUDES = -I. -I$(srcdir) -I$(top_builddir)
-I/opt/local/include -L/opt/local/lib -lusb -Wl,-framework -Wl,IOKit
-Wl,-framework -Wl,CoreFoundation -Wl,-prebind -I/opt/local/include

(I know that this is totaly unpure, dirty hack, but it works).

Run make in src dir.

Can any of Mac owners try to confirm if this dfu-util works for him on
his GTA01? I can even send binary...

Aha. Well, the viewcvs he's talking about is here:
http://cvs.handhelds.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/

But the only thing I found (after a brief search) related to libbb is this:
http://handhelds.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/ipkg.unused/libbb/

and libbb.h in that directory is still at its first version there.
It would be much easier if he just told you which patch he means. :-/

Yes, later I found this and even I found MacOS X specific HOWTO (not
related with problem) which he mentioned.

I look over whole SVN there and did not find anything interesting.

I tried to search OE site using his nickname, his mail, his name etc
but I found nothing useful. I wrote him personnaly but he did not
respond. I'm starting to lose hope now.

I though of how to get qemu compiled under MacOS X - I try to patch it
using Q[:kju] patches but I cannot get to point of compiling qemu.

Can anybody help us?

If you choose to cancel your order, please reply using the word CANCEL

Please note that it is important to leave the subject of the mail intact, and
that your response comes from the original email that you used to make this

One comment - my mail server has greylist filtering enabled and it seems the confirmation
mail got stuck - the mail server logs revealed that something was inbound immediately
after purchase but it was temporarily rejected because of the way greylisting
works..

(I placed my order around 23:58 UTC on 2007-07-09.)

Hope I'll be getting the phones anyway :)

I also have greylisting enabled but I was able to receive confirmation

Why can't we swich to gcc-4.0 in qemu?

 Hello everyone!

There was some discussion on the lists some time ago and I wanted to
 check if anything has changed.

I've made some quick research on subject of developing OpenMoko apps
on MacOS X. It appears that we could run MakoMakefile:

http://www.quantum-step.com/download/OpenMoko-Edition/oe

 That's great!

I checked if there is any possibility to run QEMU's Neo1973 port on
Mac but it seems not possible right now. Compiling it as written on

http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/OpenMoko_under_QEMU
does not work
because it requires gcc-3.3 which seems to be broken on MacOS -

http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/macports-users/2007-February/001593.html

Compiling ends up with error: gcc-3.3: installation problem, cannot
exec `cc1': No such file or directory

 Compiling neo1973 qemu with gcc-4.0: ./configure
 --target-list=arm-softmmu --cc=/usr/bin/gcc-4.0 --disable-gcc-check

 gives you:
 dyngen.c: In function 'gen_code':
dyngen.c:1853: error: 'struct relocation_info' has no member named
'r_offset'
dyngen.c:1854: error: 'struct relocation_info' has no member named
'r_offset'
dyngen.c:1858: error: 'struct relocation_info' has no member named
'r_offset'
dyngen.c:1872: error: 'struct relocation_info' has no member named
'r_offset'
dyngen.c:1915:2: error: #error unsupport object format
 dyngen.c:1849: warning: unused variable 'type'
 make: *** [dyngen] Error 1

But there is project: http://www.kju-app.org/kju/ that manages to
compile and run (very well) qemu under MacOS X. They are using
standart XCode Developer Tools so this could mean gcc-4.0.

I would be great if someone with grater knowledge on the subject could
combine kju and neo1973 emulators to make such emulator possible. What
 do you think?

Re: Yet another finger keybord (gui mock-up).

2007-03-05 Thread Krzysztof Kajkowski

I find this idea interesting but I thought of some modification - what
about using there full QWERTY keyboard?

There could be something like miniature keyboard displayed at the
buttom but in QWERTY layout. You could use thumbs to press keys (more
accuartely: areas where keys are - your thumb would press more than
one key at a time). On each key press, the part of keyboard that you
pressed could be zoomed and you would be able to choose the key you
wanted to enter (keys would be bigger now because they lay in zoomed
aread).

That could be pretty fast way of inserting data, using your thumbs, on
small screen keyboard.

THAT IS THE PROBLEM. Bigger than phone theft. That's why commercial phone
manufacturers don't allow to access all the phone for java apps. To disallow
hidden calls and smses.

IMHO this is not main reason why commercial manufacturers don't allow
access all phone for java apps but this is not the point. We have
similiar situation in Linux - we can download software from net,
install it (even on user account) and run it without knowing that it
makes some nasty stuff in the background (for example sending spams).
Such trojan are not so popular, why? I think it's because openess of
Linux and it's apps and that they are not spreading automaticly. As
for the first reason - most of us don't bother to download closed
source apps for linux. If we do, we download it from big vendors such
as Sun, VMware etc. I doubt if anyone would be stupid enough to run
binary from unknown source. Second reason if that trojan which
requires human to spread are not likely to emerge in big numbers
(epidemic).

I think that such appilcations (dialers etc) are not likely to wide
spread. Main source for applications for OpenMoko will be official
repositories and GSM providers. For first source we would have source
code to review. On the other hand GSM operators and other software
vendors should not add malware to its apps - it would kill them in the
long run. However there might be such attempts to create GSM trojans
and we should be aware to enable user to protect itself. The question
is how to do that?

What do you think?
