Re: Broken FR for sale
Well, IDK how it's useful for home automation, if it doesn't have a screen... Perhaps you mean as a server, not a client, but even so, that requires a lot of hardware and skill I don't have. :P Also, seeing as I don't have a car, only a bike, it wouldn't be particularly useful for tracking a stolen vehicle, even if the GPS was working. About the only thing I can think of that it would be useful to me for is to trade it in for an A7 (or at least something with a buzzfix) with a working screen, and get a huge discount for it. I have no idea if that's feasible, but my gut says no. Now, if anyone wants to sell me a screen, I'm very interested. It would be fun to try to repair it, although probabilistically speaking I would be more likely to break every component in the phone that does work, including the new screen, when I tried to replace it... Nevertheless, it's worth a shot. But for now, that's a dead end unless I can find a touchscreen that fits in it. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Broken FR for sale
If anyone wants it, I have one broken FR and I've gotta get rid of it. The computational aspect is fine, the only part of it that doesn't work is the screen, which is cracked. The screen DOES NOT WORK!! It's cracked and you can't see anything useful. Just colors and lines. The phone itself works fine, including the touchscreen (if you know where to touch without seeing anything). You can SSH in and play music. It still works, it just has no meaningful display. It is A5 with no buzzfix. Comes with 3 batteries, wall charger, stylus pen, USB cable, OM branded neoprene pouch, and wired headset. Hello. Alas, I've never had trouble with GSM buzz before, but now I'm getting reports of problems with some people's phones (not all, but the ones that do have trouble have it consistently). Hey, c_c. :) I wasn't sure what exactly this was, so I installed it to check it out. Unfortunately, I only have one screen of icons now so I don't really need it, but it looks really nice. Completely aesthetic, not a functionality issue at all. * The clock is in 24-hr format, and I saw a way to change the format in the settings, but I don't remember how. Glad to hear you got it working, c_c. :) In the mean time, I've had to disable bluetooth entirely since it's just not ready to use yet. If I suspend the phone, then it disconnects from the headset, and I can't answer calls until I run the dbus command, which isn't realistic to do while the phone is ringing. Also, I need a way to enable/disable bluetooth without editing configs and restarting frameworkd and ophonekitd, as doing so takes several minutes. The second pause is getting through fairly often now, but I think it's catching some of them. I can't tell when it sends one and when it doesn't. Bug: Music randomly stops playing every now and then, and I find an error message up on Intone saying it couldn't stream to bluetooth. It then resets config back to speaker and I have to set it to bluetooth again. Re: Intone 0.60 Almost Stable ;-)
Quick bluetooth note: you need to turn the bluetooth chip on before you can use it (as you know). Please request it from FSO before trying to use it, as that makes life easier for the users (we don't have to do it manually) and it saves battery life (only have it on when you're using it). I'll be more than happy to beta test AVRCP functionality (which is bluetooth control buttons). Just give me a binary, as I can't compile for FR, and I'll tell you what I get. :) Finally, AWESEOME UI updates. Everything works perfectly, and I really like the new way to control repeat/random. Because it tried to use bluetooth without having the chip on. And yes, if you're using bluetooth, you should request the resource from FSO. Otherwise, it's luck of the draw whether it'll actually be usable or not, and if it's not, bad stuff happens. [SHR-U] Poor performance playing OGG (was: Anti-Whining...)
OK, so I figured I'd make a new thread for this, since I'm whining and therefore this doesn't belong in Anti-Whining. :P I have SHR-U and I still have the occasional cut/skip when listening to OGG. I use mplayer with the integer-only tremor decoder, and CPU usage hovers down around 30-50%. Yet it likes to cut randomly even when mplayer has a nice of -19 and no other desktop apps (non-daemons) are running. Any idea what could be causing this? -- Thanks, The Digital Pioneer -- Please avoid sending me Word or PowerPoint attachments. Re: Anti-Whining: Happy Moko Moments
Well, my biggest success so far with the FR is bluetooth. I now use my FR as a portable media player, and can use GSM with bluetooth. That said, if anyone knows a way to make it not cut and skip when playing OGG with mplayer niced at -19, I'd love to hear it. It's not too bad right now, but there's usually at least one cut per minute. :( A few weeks ago there was an alien armada threatening to annihilate all life on the planet. So I grabbed my trusty Freerunner, and Will Smith flew me up to their mothership in orbit where I hacked out a little python script to disable their defense shields. I uploaded the script to their mainframe, and we managed to fly clear of the ship just before it exploded, and thus we saved all of humanity with a Freerunner. So YOU'RE the moron who destroyed my ship?!?! Re: [All] Intone bluetooth commands
Can somebody point to the highest quality headset available on the market designed for music listening I can't say it's the highest quality, but it's good enough for me. I use the Plantronics Voyager 855, which is a typical bluetooth earpiece with an attachable ear loop with a wire to another bud for your other ear. It's mono or stereo, depending on whether the other bud is connected or not. I have it working for both A2DP music and GSM calls (thanks to Paul Fertser). c_c: I'll try to get you scancodes as soon as I can, but they will be from my laptop, so I'm not sure if they will work on the FR or not. Re: [All] Intone bluetooth commands
OK, well I believe my headset sends XF86AudioPlay, XF86AudioPause, XF86AudioNext and XF86AudioPrev keycodes are: 162 0x1008ff14 (XF86AudioPlay) 0x1008ff31 (XF86AudioPause) 0x1008ff14 (XF86AudioPlay) 0x1008ff31 (XF86AudioPause) 0x1008ff14 (XF86AudioPlay) 0x1008ff31 (XF86AudioPause) 153 0x1008ff17 (XF86AudioNext) 0x (NoSymbol) 0x1008ff17 (XF86AudioNext) 0x (NoSymbol) 0x1008ff17 (XF86AudioNext) 144 0x1008ff16 (XF86AudioPrev) 0x (NoSymbol) 0x1008ff16 (XF86AudioPrev) 0x (NoSymbol) 0x1008ff16 (XF86AudioPrev) It looks like play and pause share a code, which makes sense. These keycodes come from my desktop and I don't know if they are the same on the FR. [All] Intone bluetooth commands
Hi. This is a feature request for Intone to listen to bluetooth button commands (play, pause, next, prev, etc). The phone itself will handle these for the most part, Intone needs only listen for keypresses like XF86Play etc. It should be quite simple, but then, my GUI programming is next to nothing, so I wouldn't know. Well, as yet another Jerry, I don't need a GUI for bluetooth. I'm perfectly happy to edit configs and run commands all day long, so long as at the end of the day (or week... Month... Year) it works. Only once we've gotten that far do I see a point in creating a GUI. So if there are any Toms out there who have an idea of what to do, let's hear it. [SHR-U] Bluetooth and GSM... Again.
OK, I've beaten this horse to death several times now, but I'm ready to start beating afresh. I want to use my bluetooth headset for GSM calls. I have already paired my headset with my phone, and I can listen to music on it without a hitch. So why the heck can't I use it for calls yet? I'm getting tired of listening to music, then a call comes in and the music pauses for the call and I have to pull out my headset so I can put the phone to my ear. That's just stupid. :( So! Can someone confirm whether the SHR version uses tremor too? Confirm: it works, but only when you explicitly specify ac=vorbis. This can be done either on the command line (add -ac=vorbis flag) or in the config file (echo ac=vorbis ~/.mplayer/config).
