Re: Broken FR for sale

2009-09-05 Thread The Digital Pioneer
Well, IDK how it's useful for home automation, if it doesn't have a
screen... Perhaps you mean as a server, not a client, but even so, that
requires a lot of hardware and skill I don't have. :P Also, seeing as I
don't have a car, only a bike, it wouldn't be particularly useful for
tracking a stolen vehicle, even if the GPS was working.

About the only thing I can think of that it would be useful to me for is to
trade it in for an A7 (or at least something with a buzzfix) with a working
screen, and get a huge discount for it. I have no idea if that's feasible,
but my gut says no.

Now, if anyone wants to sell me a screen, I'm very interested. It would be
fun to try to repair it, although probabilistically speaking I would be more
likely to break every component in the phone that does work, including the
new screen, when I tried to replace it... Nevertheless, it's worth a shot.
But for now, that's a dead end unless I can find a touchscreen that fits in
it.

Bricked FR!! D:

2009-08-30 Thread The Digital Pioneer
My FR's screen has given out. It now just shows all white with vertical
lines of various colors. Pressing the screen or hitting it can change the
pattern/color of lines. It sounds like brute-force trauma to the screen, but
it was working fine this morning and I haven't done anything cruel to it
since then... I've rebooted, and hard-reset it. No good.

Any ideas? Is it dead?

Broken FR for sale

2009-08-30 Thread The Digital Pioneer
If anyone wants it, I have one broken FR and I've gotta get rid of it. The
computational aspect is fine, the only part of it that doesn't work is the
screen, which is cracked. The screen DOES NOT WORK!! It's cracked and you
can't see anything useful. Just colors and lines. The phone itself works
fine, including the touchscreen (if you know where to touch without seeing
anything). You can SSH in and play music. It still works, it just has no
meaningful display.

It is A5 with no buzzfix.

Comes with 3 batteries, wall charger, stylus pen, USB cable, OM branded
neoprene pouch, and wired headset. If you're interested, make me an offer.

In the mean time, I've had to disable bluetooth entirely since it's just not

realistic to do while the phone is ringing. Also, I need a way to
enable/disable bluetooth without editing configs and restarting frameworkd
and ophonekitd, as doing so takes several minutes. They aren't big
complaints, but for me they are dealbreakers. I kept missing calls because
my phone had decided to disconnect from the headset, and in that scenario, I

Re: Intone 0.60 Almost Stable ;-)

2009-07-20 Thread The Digital Pioneer
The second pause is getting through fairly often now, but I think it's
catching some of them. I can't tell when it sends one and when it doesn't. I
haven't seen any output stating anything about a time difference.

Bug: Music randomly stops playing every now and then, and I find an error
message up on Intone saying it couldn't stream to bluetooth. It then resets
config back to speaker and I have to set it to bluetooth again. My guess is
this is caused by a blip in the signal, which is a part of bluetooth life,
and usually mplayer handles it by resetting the pipe. I think Intone can
safely ignore this. I could be entirely wrong though. :)

That tends to happen when you try to specify a package for installation
(actually give it an IPK or OPK) that is in the repos. It checks the
checksum of the package you provided against the one in the repo, and if
they aren't the same, it freaks out. I wish there was a way to tell it to
install it anyways, but there's not AFAIK. You just have to install from the

Re: Intone 0.60 Almost Stable ;-)

2009-07-18 Thread The Digital Pioneer
Quick bluetooth note: you need to turn the bluetooth chip on before you can
use it (as you know). Please request it from FSO before trying to use it, as
that makes life easier for the users (we don't have to do it manually) and
it saves battery life (only have it on when you're using it).

I'll be more than happy to beta test AVRCP functionality (which is bluetooth
control buttons). Just give me a binary, as I can't compile for FR, and I'll
tell you what I get. :)

Finally, AWESEOME UI updates. Everything works perfectly, and I really like
the new way to control repeat/random. It's excellent to have a nice control
for mplayer in the GUI too (saves me a lot of time starting the music). Just
one quick request: remember what I set mplayer's nice to between sessions.

Lots of great updates. :D Thanks!

Re: Intone 0.60 Almost Stable ;-)

That should be working. Can you confirm?

Oh, it probably is. I had to kill -9 intone to make it exit when I tried it,
I didn't think about that... :P Why did I have to kill -9 it? Because it
tried to use bluetooth without having the chip on.

And yes, if you're using bluetooth, you should request the resource from
FSO. Otherwise, it's luck of the draw whether it'll actually be usable or
not, and if it's not, bad stuff happens. Just tell FSO when you need it and
then when you're done (which would probably be on exit) and it'll take care
of everything. :)

[SHR-U] Poor performance playing OGG (was: Anti-Whining...)

2009-07-17 Thread The Digital Pioneer
OK, so I figured I'd make a new thread for this, since I'm whining and
therefore this doesn't belong in Anti-Whining. :P

I have SHR-U and I still have the occasional cut/skip when listening to OGG.
I use mplayer with the integer-only tremor decoder, and CPU usage hovers
down around 30-50%. Yet it likes to cut randomly even when mplayer has a
nice of -19 and no other desktop apps (non-daemons) are running.

Any idea what could be causing this?

now, but there's usually at least one cut per minute. :(

I can't say it's the highest quality, but it's good enough for me. I use the
Plantronics Voyager 855, which is a typical bluetooth earpiece with an
attachable ear loop with a wire to another bud for your other ear. It's mono
or stereo, depending on whether the other bud is connected or not. I have it
working for both A2DP music and GSM calls (thanks to Paul Fertser).

c_c:
I'll try to get you scancodes as soon as I can, but they will be from my

have xev, so if you can point me to a working scancode reporting app, I'll
check it.

OK, well I believe my headset sends XF86AudioPlay, XF86AudioPause,
XF86AudioNext and XF86AudioPrev

keycodes are:
162 0x1008ff14 (XF86AudioPlay) 0x1008ff31 (XF86AudioPause)
0x1008ff14 (XF86AudioPlay) 0x1008ff31 (XF86AudioPause) 0x1008ff14
(XF86AudioPlay) 0x1008ff31 (XF86AudioPause)
153 0x1008ff17 (XF86AudioNext) 0x (NoSymbol)
0x1008ff17 (XF86AudioNext) 0x (NoSymbol) 0x1008ff17

144 0x1008ff16 (XF86AudioPrev) 0x (NoSymbol)
0x1008ff16 (XF86AudioPrev) 0x (NoSymbol) 0x1008ff16
(XF86AudioPrev)

It looks like play and pause share a code, which makes sense. These keycodes
come from my desktop and I don't know if they are the same on the FR.
However, the FR definitely recognizes something because when I pressed a

[All] Intone bluetooth commands

dropped to about 30-50% CPU usage, as opposed to 70-100%. For some reason, I
still have to renice mplayer to -19 or it keeps cutting and skipping, even
when the phone is otherwise idle. :( I've tried increasing the cache too,
but no go.

Anyone interested in porting that to Elementary from Qt? Not that I don't
like Qt, but I prefer to keep my apps in Elm because they play nicer with my
theme.

Have you tried the -low- one?

It's supposed to use less CPU...

Yeah, that's the one I installed to get everything working again.

Resurrecting because it's still not fixed... :(

The Digital Pioneer digitalpion...@gmail.com wrote:

Ugh, this isn't over yet. It's still locking up as soon as it starts
playing a song. Plays to the end of the track (because mplayer is a separate
process) but doesn't continue after that. Intone has to be killed, but I
noticed that it's eating up 10-20% CPU as long as it's running, causing my
 music to cut and skip.

I installed that mplayer and it WORKS!!! Halelujah!! :D

Just one quick bug report: If I select a different song before pressing
play, I think it should play that one. But instead it plays the first one in
the playlist. Just a small thing, nothing to worry about too much. After
all, the Freerunner's best media player is working again!! :D

Keep up the awesome work, c_c. :)

Re: Hello world. Is the Neo Freerunner dead?

2009-07-07 Thread The Digital Pioneer
Will it talk to the ATT's US network?
Sure, sure. I got my FR, and called up ATT saying I wanted a GoPhone plan
and a SIM card, but I already had a phone. They didn't give me any trouble
at all.

 What do I tell them?
You don't have to tell them anything, but I told them I had a Freerunner.
The agent didn't know what it was, so I explained. They haven't contacted me
since saying You can't use THAT phone!! so I think it's OK.

NOTE: you will want to know your IMEI (it's printed on phone, under the
battery) before calling, since I had some trouble getting it when they
asked. The usual *#06# USSD code does not work. The agent told me to dial
that, and tell him the number. When it didn't work, I had to ask what that
number was called (I didn't know at the time) and quickly ask in the chat
room how to find it. Lucky someone was there who knew! LOL
