Re: [qtmoko] v24 importing contacts
I'm experiencing the same thing: contacts often do not appear after a (re)boot until after an SMS or call is received, or starting the contacts application (showing the text 'no contacts') and wait for a few seconds. They DO show up, just not instantly. Once they are 'imported' after a (re)boot, they always show up as you'd expect. -- View this message in context: http://openmoko-public-mailinglists.1958.n2.nabble.com/qtmoko-v24-importing-contacts-tp5239294p5240803.html Sent from the Openmoko Community mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Now that I have been trying V24 for some days, I can confirm the following: 1. I now have good call volumes and no distortion after setting audio values via neocontrol and they are remembered across reboots if you use the save option. Very happy. 2. Power Management - does not detect current state .e.g. battery or AC. When AC plugged in, still says on battery - after suspend, state shows locked despite never going to lock. If one goes to lock and then unlocks, power mgmt still shows state as locked. Locked state goes to battery after attaching usb cable and charging starts. 3. Unfortunately and the biggest show stopper for me, is I am still experiencing sporadic GSM connectivity issues. This is not new though, afaik this started as an issue sometime after v16. It would be interesting to see if anyone else experiences these or knows a workaround. If you want me to provide logs or you want to give me step by step instructions for test cases, I'm happy to be a guinea pig to resolve these issues once and for all: - sometimes stays searching for network, multiple restart of QT does not clear it even when 3 bars or better are shown in signal meter on left. - sometimes after device reboot no network but then seems to connect, however sometimes shows signal and carrier but cannot establish outbound calls and inbound calls can't get through. Obviously same for SMS. - currently there does not appear to be any relationship to suspend cheers Denis ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Levy wrote: Did you upgrade the Debian version for squeeze? Not yet, we need to port bluetooth to bluez4 api before moving to newer debian. But if you dont need bluetooth you can upgrade using apt. It worked for me. I would like to use more repositories, is there a way to increase the /var/apt size? Yes, but you will need SD card with ext2/ext3 filesystem. The small size is because it's tmpfs because jffs2 does not support mmap. If you are running from SD card you can just: umount /var/cache/apt or completely remove this mount from fstab. If you run from NAND, mount ext2/ext3 filesystem from SD card on that directory. Stefan Monnier wrote: ??? Ever tried aptitude search busybox ??? Not only it's part of Debian, but it's used in Debian's initrd, i.e. in most desktop installations. Actually, having just tried aptitude search busybox, I see that not only there is a busybox package, but there's even a busybox-syslogd package in unstable, which provides the same feature as my script (in a more verbose way, with more bells and whistles). This is interesting. However i still dont like the idea of having duplicated programs in the image. Busybox duplicates all those command line utils like ls, cp and so on. QtMoko v24 for GTA01
Hi, first of all thanks everybody for supporting QtMoko. I am glad that it works for so many people. I am now uploading images for older Openmoko model - Neo 1973 (GTA01). You can download them from here [1]. Source code can be found on github master_gta01 branch [2]. Here you can also find kernel config [3] and howto for debian rootfs [4]. There is not so much different to Freerunner image except that Neo 1973 has only 64MB NAND flash so it was quite hard to make the image so small. I had to manually delete a few big files from /usr (like zoneinfos) and there are only a few packages there compared to Freerunner image. However the phone can boot now, you can make calls and use most of the applications there. Known problems are following: - GPS will not be working out of the box for sure - I was able to connect GPRS but ping for some reason didnt work. - Long suspend gives me white screen - I couldnt charge GTA02 battery (but i guess this is normal) - QMplayer you'll have to manually edit config to use fb instead of glamo So there is still a lot of work to be done. If you would like to contribute, best way is to register on github and fork mine qtmoko repo or just send me patches by email. I have Neo 1973 phone borrowed from Pavel Machek. Thanks Pavel! Any feedback is welcome. I am wondering how many people still have this old Neo and if they are still using it. I've gone for a less radical approach, as most of the loglines came from qtopia: in /etc/init.d/qpe.sh change the line that starts qpe in qpe 21 | logger -p local5.debug -t 'Qtopia' than use /etc/syslog.conf to only log important info (see man syslog.conf) Sure, but i have seen kernel going crazy and spamming megabytes into /var/log/messages. So i think complete removal of loggers is more safe. Why not use the circular in-memory buffer provided by busybox's syslogd? It's what OpenWRT uses (and many other embedded firmwares): it doesn't eat up your Flash/disk, but still gives you access to the last few messages. I already posted the init file I use for it: # cat /etc/init.d/syslog-busybox #!/bin/sh ### BEGIN INIT INFO # Provides: sysklogd # Required-Start: $remote_fs $time # Required-Stop:$remote_fs $time # Should-Start: $network # Should-Stop: $network # Default-Start:2 3 4 5 # Default-Stop: 0 1 6 # Short-Description:System logger ### END INIT INFO case $1 in start ) echo -n Starting Busybox syslog: if busybox syslogd -C16; then echo -n syslogd; else echo -n !syslogd!; fi if busybox klogd; then echo -n klogd; else echo -n !kogd!; fi echo . ;; esac # You can then read your syslog with busybox logread (for which you can make a symlink). QtMoko v24
Hi, new QtMoko images v24 are out! You can download from our sourceforge [1] or visit our homepage [2][3]. QtMoko is stable distribution combining Debian rootfs and Qtopia user interface. List of changes since previous stable version (v22): - Polish translations (Tomasz Czajkowski) - Package manager displays package version (Anton Olkhovik) - Disabled logging by default to save flash - In Settings-Logging can be logging started/stopped/enabled/disabled - GUI for modem settings (deep sleep and multiplexing) in NeoControl - GUI for call volume in NeoControl - Fixed gsm alsa state to use recommended Mic 2 instead of Right PGA - Wifi maxperf can be turned on/off in devtools - Automatically set wifi to maxperf when connected (Alina Friedrichsen) - Automatically restart hcid if it crashed (Alex Samorukov) - Removed setting sd_max_clk because it was causing problems (Alex Samorukov) - Smaller icon for QNetWalk game - old icon was 1.5MB big !...@#$% - Fixed not found page in Arora (Alex Samorukov) - Tab bar size and zooming as upstream Arora does (Alex Samorukov) - Enabled web cache in Arora (Alex Samorukov) - Switching between USB mass storage and USB ethernet via devtools - Disabled dimming/suspend by default Kernel for this image is still based on 2.6.29-rc3 (andy-tracking) with custom kernel config [4] (no debug, no preemnt and most of Freerunner hardware drivers built in) + wifi fix is included. One very important changes is logging. It's disable by default and can be easily enabled or just temporarily started (until reboot). It makes the phone startup faster (1min 45secs until GSM registered fully working phone) and more important - it saves NAND flash from wearing off. This is quite important e.g. when there is some bug which triggers writing to log file every second and does a lot of writes and produces big logfiles. Another new features are in Applications-NeoControl. You can easily setup call volume here. Just launch the application, switch to dialer with AUX and during call switch back to NeoControl. You can of course setup volumes without making call if you know correct values for your phone. You can now also setup from NeoControl if you want to use deep sleep and GSM multiplexing. This is recommended way to set it up. Next new feature is switching between USB ethernet and USB mass storage. There are two scripts for it: usb-mass-storage-on.sh and usb-mass-storage-off.sh. Both can be invoked from GUI in Devtools. QtMoko is now translated also to Polish thanks to Tomasz. If there is something left untranslated, patches are welcome. QtMoko also received another great contribution from Anton Olkhovik. His J2ME virtual machine opens up QtMoko to the world of mobile java applications. I recommend to look at his post [5] and try application called phonetiq which can be found in QtMoko package feed (Settings-Package manager). Also thanks for the package version fix. Alex Samorukov did nice work on Arora. It uses disk cache for web pages and there some more glitches fixed thanks to him. He also contributed fix for disapearing bluetooth after few suspend/resume. I have tested it briefly and bluetooth seems to be good now. Alex also found solution to problem with SD card not working as expected. See this [6] thread. It turned out that setting sd_max_clk makes the SD card in fact worse. Later [7] in the thread it also turned out that correctly aligned partition table is also required for some SD cards - so watch out how you create partitions. And Alex was even more active - he has some fixes for better GPRS performance. They are not yet in this release, but i hope they make it for next one. And another thing from Alex which will hopefully done soon is support for PDF in eyepiece. I have tested it and it works good. Just need some time to update the package.
