OT WARNING!!

-Walmart makes deals with communities not to pay local taxes in return
for bringing jobs to the area. When communities balk about Walmart
avoiding taxes after a few years, Walmart will close their store and
leave rather than pay taxes. Or they will make another deal to build a
super Walmart, but only if the community again allows them to avoid
taxes--this happened where I live. There's an empty Walmart less than a
mile from the new store. Walmart still avoids taxes while using local
services; local taxpayers pay, not Walmart.

-Walmart underpays employees, sometimes making them work without pay,
and employees often need gov't assistance, i.e. food stamps, subsidized
housing. That is paid by local taxpayers, not Walmart.

-Walmart either doesn't pay health benefits, or pays so little that
employees have to pay the difference themselves, which they can't afford
on Walmart wages, or get Medicaid, paid by local taxpayers, not Walmart.

-Walmart avoids paying taxes by renting from themselves,

Okay, but Staples and these other online sellers DO say their
cartridges work with Dell! So someone is guilty of either lying or
false advertising. In fact, staples has generic cartridges (still
almost as expensive as Dell's, btw), labeled as for the Dell
printers and for my specific one. Hate to throw good money after bad
by buying another set of Dell cartridges, but don't have the dough
at the moment to buy another 4 in 1, so just haven't had use of the
4 in 1 for months now, unless I bother with scanning things in it
and using my good old reliable HP laser printer to print them out
(though not always the best quality reproduction).

So, bottom line, guess you are agreeing with Dell that no other
printer cartridges but theirs will work with their
printers? Including ink refill kits? Will certainly think twice,
three times or ten times before ever buying a Dell printer. Too bad
I probably wasn't on this list when you issued those warning!

Randall

There evidently are others here on the list that disagree with me on
the dell printers. Fine. I am glad that what they have works for them.

I would be cautious with Dell, Just like their hand held PDA's (dell
axium) that I understand are discontinued. They still sell supplies
and add-ons for them but they evidently recommend other PDA's like
Palm and others.

What will people do when Dell stops making/selling their printers.???

I have bought a couple of real cheap network capable Brother lasers
for client use and they seem to work fine. And Staples, Office Depot
and others sell the cartridges.

Your Mileage May Vary..

Rich

PS: I have purchased quite a few dell computers for clients, servers
and workstations that work well. No printers though..

Re: [CGUYS] [Fwd: Walgreen's offers free ink refills]

2007-09-13 Thread Randy
Mainly need my Dell printer for the faxing, copying (its a 4 in 1), as have
13 year old HP, b&w printer that still works fine for printing, until
cartridge starts to wear out, as it's beginning to now.

Actually, that raises a question I hadn't considered before - since, from
past experience, I'm guessing its going to run maybe $85 bucks by now to
replace the laser cartridge, might I be better off putting that money
towards another new or even used laser printer, maybe even a color one -
assuming I can scrounge up the extra bucks to do so, like borrowing them?

I've been buying refurbed Dell low-end laser printers (1710n model) for a
while now, with 3-year warranties, for under $200. I used to purchase HP
LJ
1000/1200 printers (which had only 1 year warranties) for the same task,

they just died after about a year or 2 of light use. The Dell toner is
competitive on a cost basis with HP brand and not all 3rd party toners are
created equal for HP printers. Xerox seem OK, but I stopped buying the
Eco

Elites after the last one fell apart, yet again. I have to eat the ~$70
cost every time one of those cartridges break.

The bonus is that the Dells are networked, while the 1000/1200 series is
not. Some of these replaced expensive ink-jets in certain instances.
Even
though they are just rebranded Lexmarks, no problems with the Dells. I
have

about 8 of them in use right now.

Walgreen's yes, it's a good store. Walmart no, it's owned by evil trolls
who lure you with phony low prices, then steal your money by not paying
taxes.

interesting note from slashdot:

"Hewlett-Packard's microneedle technology, used in its inkjet cartridges,
could soon be used in transdermal patches to deliver a time-controlled
release of drugs to patients. Still at the prototype stage, the patch
will likely be 25 mm square in size and 3 mm thick. It will incorporate an
array of microneedles that are between 75 and 100 microns, which will
penetrate the top dry layer of the skin, also known as the stratum
corneum. Above the microneedles is an array of wells, [and] those wells
can hold one or more drugs, the device has "an active mechanism to push
the drug through the needle"."

...so in the future maybe you can go to Walgreens to refill your
transdermal patches as well.

That means you could maybe get transdermal patches filled with inks for
painless permanent tattoos. Could be the next fad.

BTW, who makes Dell printers? Lexmark? Can their cartridges be refilled
successfully? Do they have a microchip that makes them fail if you refill
them?
