Re: [CGUYS] Saving and transfering profiles in FireFox
How much RAM does the computer have? As the programs automatically get bigger and more complicated, the computer requires more memory just to keep up with the same speed. Richard P. But computer takes forever to boot up, so wondering if there is another reason or reasons for slow booting and slow loading. I still think at this point computers should be able to note such things on their own, e.g. slow or changed loading speeds, and offer possible solutions. But in the meantime, sure glad we have this resource. * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *
[CGUYS] Saving and transfering profiles in FireFox
It was suggested here that slow-running FireFox might be caused by too many profiles and that I should create a new one and delete the others. Can't see how to save and transfer the information from the old profiles (specifically saved websites and passwords) to the new profile. Seems there should be a simple, if not automatic, way to do this, given that one may wish to create various profiles without recreating everything else from scratch. Is there such a way? Can't see how to save and transfer the information from the old profiles I think you must have misunderstood. If something has gone wrong in Firefox, it could be because of something gone bad in your profile. So creating a new profile with nothing in it would be an easy way to check. If everything is back to normal with a new profile, you can start to move things from the old profile, one by one. Everything is just files in the profiles. If you are using Windows, your profiles are under your Windows profile folder. The easiest way to find these folders is probably to search for bookmarks.html To get your bookmarks to the new profile, copy this file over. If you have moved to Firefox 3, it could be more complicated. You don't want to copy every file over - the problem could have been a corrupt history file or something. Still, if you do copy a file over and it gets messed up again, you can always delete it. -- John DeCarlo, My Views Are My Own * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *
Re: [CGUYS] Saving and transfering profiles in FireFox
One source of slow operation is the antivirus scanner. As the antivirus scanner upgrades, more and more system resources are required for the additional scanning features and the additional virus strings to be scanned for. Try turning off your anti-virus and see how fast the machine runs.
