[CGUYS] iChat

2007-11-18 Thread Jeff Miles
I'm having a problem with iChat. I loaded OS X.5 and wanted to play
with the new video effects features, but they are grayed out. I'm
running an iMac G5 1.8ghz with 512mb memory, just as the box says I
need. Apple gives no info I can find as to why this feature would be
grayed out and not usable with this system. I'm also using the
External iSight web cam. That's the $150 dollar one. It works just
fine, except for not being able to access the video effects. Any
thoughts?

My guess is your video card is not powerful enough. Click on the
Apple Menu - About This Mac-More Info button-Graphics/Displays and
check if Core Image is supported.

A little further research yields this page on
Apple's web site:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306687,
from which I quote:

€ Intel Core Duo processor or faster.
€ At least 128 Kbps upstream and downstream bandwidth.
Minimum requirements for Backdrop effects
€ Intel processor, Core 2 Duo or faster.
€	iSight camera, external USB Video
Class (UVC) camera, or FireWire DV camcorder
with fixed focus, exposure and white balance.

Re: [CGUYS] iChat

2007-11-18 Thread Jeff Miles
Thanks for your time. I couldn't find this. Sounds like I'm out of
luck. It sounds like I have everything but that Intel processor. Why
that's needed I have no idea. I seem to meet all the other requirements.
The whole thing sounds a bit like false advertising as far as I'm
concerned. I wonder how many other Mac users have bought OS X.5
thinking it will work as advertised. Even in my searches they didn't
tell me I needed the Intel Core Duo processor. But of course I didn't
dig as deep as you. I'm not used to Apple be so...I can't even think
of the phrase, but it's not a good one.
And not to run on about this, but why didn't Apple make this option
for all their computers that would run OS X.5? I thought they have,
for the longest time, said anything a PC can do a Mac can do. Then
they turn around and pull this crap.
