Looks like there is a problem with this client ( or my python binaries). Once I break the downaload, I get an error when I restart btdownloadgui. After existing file checking, it comes out with an error symbol fcntl not found. Its little confusing since fcntl is a libc symbol. I was getting a download speed of 6-12kbps with this version where as when I switched to mandrake distributed bittorrent, my download speed went upto 200kbps. Hi, i recently installed k3b-0.9-11mdk my hope was that with this new version i could use k3b with supermount. But i cannot. Now i'd like to know if i have to configure something to have it working or it's hopeless. I can do a CD (also multisession) but i cannot import old session, 'cause k3b cannot mount an empty device. I tryed adding some little patches on my version to find device correctly also with supermount. And from now on i can importe old session logging-in as root (not as normal user). Before going on, and try to make my changes public, i'd like to say if there is another way to use supermount and k3b, i.e. supermount is useful and also very popular for mandrake users, so i guess if i am the only one with this problem. As had been discussed before, the new supermount allows unmounting of the subfs via a proc entry. A wrapper script can be made that effectively temporarily disables supermount. I think this was already done for formatting floppies, writing CDs is another such case. d.

IMHO, official packages for a release are in: Mandrake/release and Mandrake/updates/release on the official mirrors. like: ftp://mandrake.redbox.cz/Mandrake/updates/9.2/RPMS/ We're about to finish the distro for the 64 architecture ... and then cooker will reopen again ... so the packages will be updated ... in the meanwhile use my web site .. if you need those packages ... IMHO this should not be necessary, broken packages which can be fixed should be fixed by bugfix updates. I would like to know when these packages will be available as official updates for 9.2. Otherwise, when does the official time for starting support for 9.2 start? It seems at present real support for a distro can only be guaranteed for 2 distros concurrently (ie at present 9.0 and 9.1). 8.2 has been unsupported for a few weeks now, but I want to upgade servers running 8.2 to something that will be supported for more than a year (and no, the clients can't afford CS 2.1, but might manage a ProSuite). It doesn't seem that 9.2 is supported yet ... (Note, I can happily support my own machines, but I can't sell solutions to clients and say that I am their only means of supporting their machines if they have paid for a product - so this is more of a complaint about business than about the packages themselves) If the packages are in QA, that's fine (my ProSuite order hasn't shipped yet I guess), but your answer implied there would not be updates (only new packages in cooker). It's even on the 9.2 CDs (2nd CD in my PowerPack), but the package is named fortune-mod. I think this package would gain being split between engine (fortune binary) and several data files. Moreover, there should be done something about line-wrapping, such as defining a standard character/line limit (72) and enforcing it someway. [Cooker] Idea for future iso's
With all the complaining about missing packages (i.e. kernel-source package) and the debate about what should have been left out instead (i.e. emacs or alternate kernels, etc.) I had a thought that might be helpful. Obviously, in order to make everybody happy, the number of images needs to be increased, I was thinking that isos could be created for the base distro, say two, and then supplemental isos for gaming/eyecandy/mm stuff, development stuff, and then international/localizations packages. That way I would not be forced to download four big images to get what I want, I could just download the base and the development image for instance, and skip the games and the localization disk. So I see 5 images, and maybe one or two are not completely full, but at least everything will be included. François. That would be a good side effect, but I'm looking for a way to find all the old junk lying around my hard drive. A few weeks ago I had a problem with styles in KDE on cooker not working or showing up, and found the problem was an old libqt library in /usr/lib/ that was messing things up. I removed it and styles started working again. I probably should just wipe everything out and do a fresh install every so often, but I'm lazy and it's so much work to track down every little package that I need to have installed to get the system back to a comfortable state. Which reminds me.. if I were to create an autoinstall disk from my current system, would it only list packages from main or would it include contrib and plf packages? If I then attempted an install from that disk would it have a problem finding all the rpms if I kept a local mirror of cooker, contrib, and plf? Just a thought... I'm probably making it more complex than it needs to be... Thanks, Scott

Some other people asked me to make my changes available because I cannot upload them because cooker is frozen. Then simply wait for the official mirroring ... I cannot tell you anything about that ... just wait or ask [EMAIL PROTECTED] cheers, -- Florin http://www.mandrakesoft.com http://people.mandrakesoft.com/~florin/
Re: [Cooker] Mozilla Thunderbird not on cooker
On a related note, there seems to be a major problem with the mozilla-firebird package. When installed, it replaces mozilla with firebird, such that mozilla actually launches firebird, and mozilla -mail is broken ('cannot locate /content/messenger.xul'). Furthermore, uninstalling firebird does not fix it! Nor does re-installing mozilla. I've experienced this in 9.1 by untarring the MozillaFirebird.tgz in /usr/local, and in 9.2 by installing the mozilla-firebird rpm from contrib. (And my mozilla-1.4 in both cases came from Mandrake rpms). A workaround (to run the real 'zilla) is to add the directory containing mozilla-bin to $LD_LIBRARY_PATH (otherwise it complains about libmozjs.so not found) and run mozilla-bin instead of mozilla. So firebird seems to be replacing chrome or changing environment paths such that you cannot (easily) run the two browsers side-by-side. -- Guy

Copying the v0.4.29 (2002/12/31)(24 July) version of pegasus.c and Pegasus.h from =2.4.21-0.25mdk sources (and recompliling) corrects the issue. This is a very solid driver in its older version.

Re: [Cooker] Idea for future iso's
, 21 2003, 15:45,Greg Meyer: With all the complaining about missing packages (i.e. kernel-source package) and the debate about what should have been left out instead (i.e. emacs or alternate kernels, etc.) I had a thought that might be helpful. WDYT? you mean actually dedicating each ISO to a separate section? one for i18n? one for devel? one for servers? one for docs? wow... great idea... -- diego, 26 Tishrey 5764 Please avoid sending me Word or PowerPoint attachments. Probably the easiest highly visible solution would be to include a message in the isolinux/syslinux boot screen to that effect. Additionally, users who had previously used proprietary drivers may have issues (especially users with drivers which are necessary for their internet connection) may be unaware that they should obtain new drivers before installation. The message should be quite strongly worded (ie Before considering installation, please see the errata for this release at ... . Additionally, if your hardware requires proprietary drivers, please ensure you have access to them before continuing.), but maybe a bit more brief ...
