Looks like there is a problem with this client ( or my python

symbol fcntl not found. Its little confusing since fcntl is a libc
symbol. I was getting a download speed of 6-12kbps with this version
where as when I switched to mandrake distributed bittorrent, my download
speed went upto 200kbps. Looks really cool

with mandrake 9.2, disc-cover segfault. In fact the problem commes
from the

I have recompiled perl-Audio-CD-0.04 with -g instead -O2 (perl compilation

problem
seems to be a compiler problem ... ?

What happens if you just rebuild the package as is (with the -O2
optimisation)? We had a buggy gcc in cooker for a while that caused
problems with software compiled at -O2, maybe the package just wasn't
rebuilt with a good gcc?

2003-10-21 Thread [john.allen]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6191

   Product: dhcp-server
 Component: dhcp-server
Summary: Will not start with DDNS updates enabled
   Product: dhcp-server
   Version: 3.0-1.rc12.2mdk
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: critical
  Priority: P2
 Component: dhcp-server
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

dhcpd produces an error saying it cannot parse old style dns update code.

I have rebuilt using the rc12 sources from ISC, and this now works perfectly.

I noticed that the .src.rpm actually conatins rc11 is ISC's dhcp

[Cooker] k3b and supermount

2003-10-21 Thread R N dev
Hi, i recently installed
k3b-0.9-11mdk
my hope was that with this new version
i could use k3b with supermount. But i cannot.
Now i'd like to know if i have to configure
something to have it working or it's hopeless.
I can do a CD (also multisession) but i cannot
import old session, 'cause k3b cannot mount an
empty device.
I tryed adding some little patches on my version
to find device correctly also with supermount. And
from now on i can importe old session logging-in as
root (not as normal user). Before going on, and try
to make my changes public, i'd like to say if there
is another way to use supermount and k3b, i.e.
supermount is useful and also very popular for
mandrake users, so i guess if i am the only one with
this problem.

Thanks in advance
Angelo

Similar problem is also with Acer 242FX. I see only OK, booting the
kernel. Then
system freeze. Kernel option noacpi, nolacpi doesn't help. The same
problem has
MDK 8.2,9.0,9.1,9.2. I have installed RedHat 9.0. It boots without
problem. The
 problem is maybe ACPI.

There is no 'nolacpi' option, the valid options are (AFAIK):
apic
noapic
nolapic
lapic
acpi=off
acpi=on
acpi=ht

You may also want to try the more recent kernels in cooker.

I'll rebuild that package. Did it really crash in perl-Audio-CD, not in
libcdaudio? Does it work with -O1? Or was the compiler fixed since the build of
the 0.04-10mdk package and a simple rebuild is enough? I can't test this right now.

As had been discussed before, the new supermount allows unmounting of the

temporarily disables supermount. I think this was already done for
formatting floppies, writing CDs is another such case.

 Hi,

These are already official packages, otherwise you wouldn't know about it
 ...

IMHO, official packages for a release are in:
Mandrake/release
and
Mandrake/updates/release
on the official mirrors.

like:
ftp://mandrake.redbox.cz/Mandrake/updates/9.2/RPMS/

We're about to finish the distro for the 64 architecture ... and then
cooker will reopen again ... so the packages will be updated ... in the
meanwhile use my web site .. if you need those packages ...

IMHO this should not be necessary, broken packages which can be fixed
should be fixed by bugfix updates. I would like to know when these
packages will be available as official updates for 9.2. Otherwise, when
does the official time for starting support for 9.2 start? It seems at
present real support for a distro can only be guaranteed for 2 distros
concurrently (ie at present 9.0 and 9.1). 8.2 has been unsupported for a
few weeks now, but I want to upgade servers running 8.2 to something
that will be supported for more than a year (and no, the clients can't
afford CS 2.1, but might manage a ProSuite). It doesn't seem that 9.2 is
supported yet ...

(Note, I can happily support my own machines, but I can't sell solutions
to clients and say that I am their only means of supporting their
machines if they have paid for a product - so this is more of a
complaint about business than about the packages themselves)

If the packages are in QA, that's fine (my ProSuite order hasn't shipped
yet I guess), but your answer implied there would not be updates (only
new packages in cooker).

Regards,
Buchan

After install some rpms, the KDE menu will be lost. Maybe rpmdrake or menudrake
has a bug. We have discuss this bug here:

Maybe we can solve this problem, but you should fix it in order to make your

I hope you will fix the bug before the final release.

I'm thinking of adding a perl script in fortune package, and using it at

We have the same problem here since upgrade to MDK 9.2

The problem is that now we have a default TMP dir = $HOME/tmp in the default
environment.

I can confirm that putting passenv = PATH in /etc/xinetd.d/cvs solves the
problem.

[Cooker] Idea for future iso's

2003-10-21 Thread Greg Meyer
With all the complaining about missing packages (i.e. kernel-source package)
and the debate about what should have been left out instead (i.e. emacs or
alternate kernels, etc.) I had a thought that might be helpful.

Obviously, in order to make everybody happy, the number of images needs to be
increased, I was thinking that isos could be created for the base distro,
say two, and then supplemental isos for gaming/eyecandy/mm stuff, development
stuff, and then international/localizations packages. That way I would not
be forced to download four big images to get what I want, I could just
download the base and the development image for instance, and skip the games
and the localization disk.

So I see 5 images, and maybe one or two are not completely full, but at least
everything will be included. WDYT?

That would be a good side effect, but I'm looking for a way to find all the old
junk lying around my hard drive. A few weeks ago I had a problem with styles in
KDE on cooker not working or showing up, and found the problem was an old libqt
library in /usr/lib/ that was messing things up. I removed it and styles
started working again. I probably should just wipe everything out and do a
fresh install every so often, but I'm lazy and it's so much work to track down
every little package that I need to have installed to get the system back to a
comfortable state.

Which reminds me.. if I were to create an autoinstall disk from my current
system, would it only list packages from main or would it include contrib and
plf packages? If I then attempted an install from that disk would it have a
problem finding all the rpms if I kept a local mirror of cooker, contrib, and plf?

Just a thought... I'm probably making it more complex than it needs to be...

Thanks,

Many users have issues during or just after installation (ie first boot), which
could be avoided if they were aware of the errata before starting the installation.

Ideally, we want some way to ensure that the user has seen the errata list
before even initiating an installation (web browser in stage1 ? ;-)).

Probably the easiest highly visible solution would be to include a message in
the isolinux/syslinux boot screen to that effect.

Additionally, users who had previously used proprietary drivers may have issues
(especially users with drivers which are necessary for their internet
connection) may be unaware that they should obtain new drivers before installation.

The message should be quite strongly worded (ie Before considering
installation, please see the errata for this release at ... . Additionally, if
your hardware requires proprietary drivers, please ensure you have access to
them before continuing.), but maybe a bit more brief ...

IMHO, official packages for a release are in:
 Mandrake/release

 Buchan

I'm only a developper, I have given you the fixes that will be added in

Re: [Cooker] Mozilla Thunderbird not on cooker

2003-10-21 Thread Guy McArthur
On a related note, there seems to be a major problem with the
mozilla-firebird package.

When installed, it replaces mozilla with firebird, such that mozilla
actually launches firebird, and mozilla -mail is broken ('cannot
locate /content/messenger.xul'). Furthermore, uninstalling firebird does
not fix it! Nor does re-installing mozilla.

I've experienced this in 9.1 by untarring the MozillaFirebird.tgz in
/usr/local, and in 9.2 by installing the mozilla-firebird rpm from
contrib. (And my mozilla-1.4 in both cases came from Mandrake rpms).

A workaround (to run the real 'zilla) is to add the directory containing
mozilla-bin to $LD_LIBRARY_PATH (otherwise it complains about
libmozjs.so not found) and run mozilla-bin instead of mozilla.

So firebird seems to be replacing chrome or changing environment paths
such that you cannot (easily) run the two browsers side-by-side.

With all the complaining about missing packages (i.e. kernel-source
package) and the debate about what should have been left out instead (i.e.
emacs or alternate kernels, etc.) I had a thought that might be helpful.

Obviously, in order to make everybody happy, the number of images needs to
be increased, I was thinking that isos could be created for the base
distro, say two, and then supplemental isos for gaming/eyecandy/mm stuff,
development stuff, and then international/localizations packages. That way
I would not be forced to download four big images to get what I want, I
could just download the base and the development image for instance, and
skip the games and the localization disk.

So I see 5 images, and maybe one or two are not completely full, but at
least everything will be included. WDYT?

you mean actually dedicating each ISO to a separate section?
one for i18n?
one for devel?
one for servers?
one for docs?

wow... great idea...

do? Boot windows?

I applied this one:

After deleting the last file nautilus shows deleted file on the list

On a related note, there seems to be a major problem with the
mozilla-firebird package.

I have them both installed, both on my 9.1 box at home (mozilla-1.5 that
is available in Club, and mozilla-firebird-0.7 that is in Club), and the
only issue I have is that if mozilla-firebird is *running* (probably
started after mozilla itself in most cases), then any 'mozilla' command
will use firebird. However, if it is not running, everything works fine.

Bizarre -- that's different behavior than what I'm seeing. Maybe because
I'm still on moz 1.4?

[Cooker] [Bug 6197] [totem] New: Totem player crashes when playing a DVD film

2003-10-21 Thread [m.watts]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6197

   Product: totem
 Component: totem
Summary: Totem player crashes when playing a DVD film
   Product: totem
   Version: 0.99.4-4mdk
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: P2
 Component: totem
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Installed Mandrake 9.2 with KDE (no Gnome) and tried to play a DVD film (The Fast and
The
Furious), Region 2.
You see about 1sec of the 'warning' trailer at the beginning and then the player
crashes with the
following message:

Application totem (process xxx) has crashed due to a fatal error. (Aborted).

The player has to be killed with xkill or similar.

System concerned is a Dell Latitude C610 with a 16x DVD/ 8x CDRW combo drive (which
incidentally is detected 7 times by the kernel)
