There is a little typo in the last group. A year of 1663 is given instead
of 1633.

Best wishes!

I vaguely recall that an Donagheady Parish researcher was trying to track

there were in London or somewhere in England. I believe her name was Teena

Re: [CoTyroneMailingList] Searching for WILLIAM SHARKEY information

2019-06-01 Thread Peter Kincaid via CoTyroneList
The following may relate to the generation before your grandfather.

On 19 September 1853, David Kincaid, a full age 24 year old bachelor
labourer of Holyhill, son of James Kincaid, labourer, was married to Ann
Sharkey, an 18 year old spinster of [Derrygle] in Camus j. Mourne, daughter
of Hugh Sharkey, farmer at the Parish Church, Leckpatrick Parish, County
Tyrone according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the United Church of
England and Ireland by licence by me Jas Atkinson, Clerk. The witnesses
were [Bryen Cave] and [Berry McElhare] [Ireland. Civil Registrations of
Marriages. Strabane, 1853, vol. 10, p. 241, no. 42; LDS film no. 101351].
Holyhill townland is bounded on the west by Ballee, on the east by
Keenaghan and on the south by the townlands of Dergalt and Evish in Camus
Parish.

David Kincaid and Ann Sharkey migrated to Geelong, Australia where they
died and are buried (

[CoTyroneMailingList] William Murray of Donagheady/Leckpatrick parishes

2019-05-02 Thread Peter Kincaid via CoTyroneList
I am hoping to find more about the ancestry of William Murray who married
Ann Leslie, daughter of John Leslie of Tirkernaghan, Donagheady parish and
Katherine McCausland. She was baptized 4 Nov 1714. He got Coolermoney and
Stoneypath, Leckpatrick parish and Stragullin, Camus parish as a marriage
portion. Their son William Murray became William Murray of Silver Brook,
Tirkernaghan, Donagheady Parish. William and Ann Murray seemed to reside
elsewhere as I see him referred to as William Murray of Dublin in a number
of cases and William Murray of Little Rath, Westmeath in a couple of other
cases. Does anyone know more about him?

I am wondering if he is of the Murrays of Caw House, Londonderry. The
famous Colonel Adam Murray of the Londonderry siege fame had a son James
Murray who married Anne, daughter of Thomas Patterson, Provost of
Strabane. James is said to have had two sons of which his eldest, Adam
Murray, became of Bloom Hill, County Tyrone by right of his wife. Could
William Murray have been the other son of James Murray and Anne Patterson?

Best wishes!

Re: [CoTyroneMailingList] Hammond (or Haman) & Nancy GRAHAM

2019-04-25 Thread Peter Kincaid via CoTyroneList
Your post caught my attention because Hammond is a rare name about
Londonderry and Strabane. My interest is because a Hammon might be in my
direct line.

John Kinkead married Anne Hammond on 30 September 1762 by Rev. Richard
Waddy, rector of Cumber parish, County Londonderry. He was quite likely
the John Kinkaid of Ballycallaghan, Cumber Parish who was recorded in the
1774 Freeholders Register.

As I said, Hammond is a rare surname is the western part of county
Londonderry: William Hamon of Londonderry, Templemore parish & Alexander
Hamond of Waterside, Clondermot parish are all that appears in the 1740
Protestant Householders lists; Richard Hammond of Mullaboy townland, Cumber
Parish had his Will registered 18 March 1796.

Kincaids were not native to Cumber Parish. They almost certainly migrated
over the county line from Donagheady parish, County Tyrone and are
connected to Leckpatrick parish via family connections over the years.
They were once in Stoneypath where your Carnwaths/Carnwaiths seem to have
been.

One Alexander Hammond came to Kings County, New Brunswick, Canada at the
same time as my Kincaids (1820) and settled on a nearby farm. I came
across a family history of this family and they appeared to be from
Inishowen, County Donegal. However, the Carys/Careys of Donagheady parish
had a branch in the Carndonagh area in Tristram Cary. His predecessor,
Tristram Cary, was once seneschal of Donagheady parish. Rev. John Pitt
Kennedy of Carndonagh married Mary Cary, only daughter of Major Thomas
Carey of Loughash, Donagheady Parish, County Tyrone and they had William
Pitt Kennedy who became of Loughash and married Mary, daughter of John
Chambers, in 1823. I can't find my Chamber references at the moment, but I
think he was of the Chambers who had a part of Collermoney - next to
Stoneypath.

Finally, the Cunninghams are also connected to the Kincaids and also came
over with my Kincaids and settled on adjacent farms. The St. Columb’s
Church of Ireland Cathedral Registers, Templemore Parish, Londonderry
records the marriage of Mary Kinkade and John Cunningham on 16 September
1810.

So this is nothing conclusive, but we have a series of coincidences here.
Perhaps you should look more at the Inishowen Hammonds and keep in mind the
above interconnections. I will try to find notes on the family here.

Best wishes!

Peter

get the impression that the Parish was split about 1706 with the newer

Re: [CoTyroneMailingList] Gibson Ancestors

2018-08-18 Thread Peter Kincaid via CoTyroneList
Did your Mary Margaret (Porter) Gibson return to County Tyrone? I see the
following abstract for a Margaret Porter in Ballee:

Title : Mrs Date of Death : 11 November 1927
Surname : Gibson Date of Grant : 19 November 1956
Forename : Margaret Reseal Date :
Registry : Londonderry Effects : Effects £25 0s 0d
No Image
Full Abstract :
Gibson Margaret of Ballee Strabane county Tyrone widow died 11 November
1927 Probate Londonderry 19 November to Robert John Gibson farmer. Effects
£25.

If not her, then likely a relative.

Kincaids were in Ballee townland as well. There was a Kincaid-Porter union
in the mid 1800s in Londonderry:

On 25 November 1862, Andrew Kinkaid, a full age bachelor farmer of
Dundrain, son of John Kinkaid, farmer, was married to Jane Porter, a 20
year old spinster of Elagh, daughter of Andrew Porter, farmer at Ballyarnet
Parish Church, Templemore Parish, County Londonderry to the form and
discipline of the Presbyterian Church by license by Robert McCreery. The
witnesses were William Robinson and George Adair [Ireland. Civil
Registrations of Marriages. Londonderry, 1862, vol. 7, p. 261, no. 47; LDS
film no. 101438].

While in the Glasgow area, this Kincaid family hailed from Ireland and I
suspect them to be from Donagheady Parish (Maghereagh and Drummeny
connections). I thought I'd add it here in case the name fit with some of
yours.

The Statutory Death Registers records the death of Margaret Porter
"suddenly in Alexander Kincaid's house Levern Bank, Neilston" on 5 August
1880 at Levern Bank, Neilston, being a 60 year old daughter of the deceased
William Kincaid, miller, and the deceased Janet Ferrie and spouse of 1)
George Porter, shoemaker, and 2) Joseph Porter, shoemaker. Her sister Jean
Kincaid was present at her death [GROS, Neilston District, Renfrew County,
572/01 0069. p. 23, no. 69].
