Re: [Csgo_servers] Patch broke CSGO

2014-09-20 Thread Steam
Hello, Michael

I also agree with your arguments. From what I know they are working each day to
fix different types of issues. Note that not everything they fix is in the
Update Release notes. They can easily fix some buggy script and don’t event
bother to name it. Be sure that if you guys mentioned something here, the DEVs
DID get it and the possibility that they are checking the issue is almost 100%.

Here is my suggestion to all of you guys:

When you encounter the problem, try to reproduce it. Remember the steps and
post it here. Be specific and exact, after all that’s not reddit or CS:GO
Discussions.

As you can see I, like the DEV team prefer to read more instead of making
“Tolkin” posts without trying to actually solve the issue myself.

Remember guys, our community is giant, and the DEV team doesn’t include all
~250 Valve employees. So try to help them by giving specific and exact
information.

Thanks.
~Nikolay

You are absolutely right. There is no need for them to have active

Vitaliy stopped in to at least give us a word about the session error
problems, it wouldn't hurt Valve devs to give us meaningful short responses
that will let us know they are working on a solution when we are going on for
weeks about a specific issue. We understand that there are only a handful of
devs working on this game, but there are mountains of problems that are being
addressed by the community from small client issues to major server issues.
Combine that with the fact we know a large amount of the devs time is spent
on Operations, skins, etc...and we have a legit reason to be mad that core
issues with the game are seemingly being put on the back burner in exchange
for a money grab. How can you move forward so swiftly with so many things
that are irrelevant to the actual fluidity of gameplay while seemingly
 neglecting the most widespread issues?

2014-09-20 Thread Ejziponken -
I'm running the servers, I'm the one that have to live with the problems in
first hand, I have players complaining about them too and not always in a
orderly fashion because the players too get frustrated when I cant give them
any answers to the problem.
But I'm just a guy running CSGO-servers. I know the basics in that area but I
often have problems location the source of the issues and gathering the correct
and helpful information for the devs.Like the recent lag problems. I know my
servers lags. I see the net_graph and the spike in sv/var values when it lags.
But that's about it. Ofc I can try to take some basics steps to rule out
plugins, etc but I cant do much more.
Its frustrating spending hours and hours trying to figure out problems with the
servers and then sending mails to this list and not getting any response at all
from the people who can help you. After I spend a day to rule out ditt and datt
It would be nice that someone knowledge that they know about the problem and
that they are looking into it. Otherwise it feels like I'm sitting there with
the problems and no options and that's not a good feeling.
When I have problems with my internet connection I call my company and they
tell me what steps to take to solve the problem or how to gather information
they need to solve the problem and that's what I'm missing here.

Subject: [Csgo_servers] The current situation and a proposal to get this
 sorted out

 This is a mess.

Basically, the community suffers from two game issues at the moment:

 -The session bug
-Lag spikes that appeared with the update from 9/10/2014

Oddly enough, those aren't actually the issues. There is only one key
issue: There is no (directed) communication. We have two parties here,
 the devs and the community.
We can't expect the devs to do nothing else but to browse through the
mails here and endure the people's frustration (and possible insults)
and justify theirselves to them. They have better things to do, may it
be implementing new features, or doing what we want them to do at the
 moment, fixing bugs.
On the other hand, Valve cannot expect the community to be happy with
being kept in the dark. No one can tell me that this is particularly
helpful either. Just like we should be understanding towards Valve
(given the point I've made above), Valve (who actually hire
psychologists to research gamers' behavior, at least according to their
job opening tab on their page) is well aware of that, I guess.

So let's for a moment focus on what both parties have in common: A lot
of effort goes from both sides into making the game work, because they
both share a passion for this game. Second of all, both parties want to
 be understood.

 So what is needed?
Middlemen, who moderate the communication, filter out whatever
information there is going around the net community-wise and pick out
the stuff for the devs which is actually helpful to them and in reverse
work with the community admins. Maybe Valve needs other resources like
community test servers (since reproducing the issues is part of them
obviously), or dumps, I don't know. Just let these people know and help
 both parties solve this problem.

I sincerely hope that both sides read and understand this. The situation
 is dire.
