A year ago, Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, who have sold more than 10 million
copies of their "Left Behind" thrillers about the Apocalypse, prophesied
global upheaval on Jan. 1, 2000.

The Y2K bug could trigger "financial meltdown," they warned readers on their
Web site, "making it possible for the Antichrist or his emissaries . . . to
dominate the world commercially until it is destroyed."

But now that the hour is upon us, the prophets of doom are retreating.

"We don't think it relates to Y2K at all," Jenkins said. "And we're bemused
by people who do."

Reminded of the Web site prediction, he said, "We regret having talked about
it." Over the last year, Jenkins said, he has been reassuring nervous fans
they have nothing to fear.

Even those who fully embraced the date as late as last month are now backing
down. Some prophets are hedging their bets, reminding everyone they only
said "maybe," or they never specified the Western world, or Jan. 1 exactly.
Others such as the Rev. Jerry Falwell say they have read the Y2K compliance
reports and found them soothing. All are expecting a humdrum New Year's Eve.

Grant R. Jeffrey, author of titles such as "The Millennium Meltdown" and
"Armageddon: Earth's Last Days," is also blase. Earlier this year, the
Toronto-based minister wrote that the Y2K bug "may set the stage for the
creation of the coming world government that was prophesied to arise in the
last days."

Now he's downsizing his expectations. "It will be frustrating, like computer
errors, delays in waiting for planes, that kind of thing," he said.

Jeffrey does not disavow his disaster predictions, but expects them to
unfold only distantly, "in the Third World" and not quite so suddenly.

"It's not a January problem," Jeffrey added. "It will manifest itself
gradually throughout the year, like maybe in March or April or May, or even
later."

It seems that the Apocalypse has been postponed. Now that the date is
tangible, signs of the second coming of Christ are becoming hazy. The
millions of fundamentalist Christians who seized on the Y2K bug as proof
that a techno-idolatrous world was doomed now see it as more of a nuisance.

"The end times people are backing down," said Damian Thompson, author of
"The End of Time: Faith and Fear in the Shadow of the Millennium," a study
of modern doomsday cults. "People who last year became excited about the
millennium bug are suddenly saying, 'I never said that. It was him, not me.'
They're extremely nervous of having December 31st, 1999, pinned on them
forever."

Earlier this year, Falwell distributed a packet on "The Y2K Time Bomb,"
including a video, "A Christian's Guide to the Millennium Bug," and a Family
Readiness Checklist, telling people to stock up on such items as gardening
utensils, Q-tips and peanut butter and jelly.

"Y2K is God's instrument to shake this nation, to humble this nation,"
Falwell said in a television broadcast last year. "He may be preparing to
confound our language, to jam our communications, scatter our efforts, and
judge us for our sin and rebellion for going against his lordship."

But Falwell says he has read the government and banking reports and he is no
longer a "fatalist"; in fact, he's "encouraged." A few weeks ago, Falwell
withdrew the video and has been toning down the visions. "I don't anticipate
any major problems," he said last week. "I would fly in an airplane that
day."

When it was first revealed, the Y2K bug suited the apocalyptic temperament.
It's timing even validated fundamentalist numerology. In 1654, Archbishop
James Ussher of Armagh dated creation to 4004 B.C., and counting forward
using numerical clues, predicted Christ's reign on Earth would begin about
6,000 years later, during what became known in evangelical circles as the
Great Week.

>From the mainstream to the fringes, evangelical Christians adopted the Y2K
bug as their own. For the last two years, they have held conferences
teaching the flock how to filter water, bag sand, dry peas. Popular
Christian magazines advertised gold bullion and Rapture insurance policies
(in case you were snatched up to Heaven but your loved ones were left
behind).

But as the day approaches, even some of the fringe groups are mellowing.

"I'm aware of hardly anyone who's still saying 1/1/2000 is the big day,"
said Ted Daniel, who runs the Millennial Center in Pennsylvania and keeps a
close eye on doomsday cults. "It's the usual pattern: If you're a
millenarian prophet, you have to

Bob Mitchell noted that treponema pallidum (the spirochete which causes
syphilis) could slip through the filters used in the manufacture of
medication for hemophiliacs, and thus could not be ruled out as a possible
cause of AIDS.

Tranfusion-AIDS also caught Jon Rappoport's attention. He  addresses a
number of relevant facts to the topic in   Let's take a closer
look.

"HIV advocates have also invoked what is called transfusion-AIDS. The
thinking goes this way. Healthy people with no background of "high risk"
activity, when transfused with blood containing HIV, have developed
full-blown AIDS. Therefore, the obvious cause was HIV, and this proves HIV
causes AIDS.

On the surface, it seems like sound reasoning. However, looking over
available statistics on people who get transfusions, a different picture
emerges.

Calculating from figures supplied by the American Association of Blood
Banks, since 1978 [Rappoport wrote this in 1988.--Ed.] about 29 million
Americans have received blood transfusions. In most of these transfusions,
more than one donor supplied the various pints injected, so there was
ample opportunity to receive HIV in the bloodstream. The average size of a
transfusion is 3.5 pints.

As of February 1988, the CDC reports a total of 1466 transfusion AIDS in
the US (since AIDS was first reported). This means that about .5 of
those who have received transfusions in the last ten years have been
diagnosed with AIDS. That's 5/hundred thousands of one percent.

On that basis, could you possibly infer that HIV is the cause of something
called AIDS? Obviously not. One could argue that these statistics don't
absolutely  HIV as a sometime cause of human disease, but this
is not the question. Many researchers who attribute AIDS to HIV state, , blood-transfusion AIDS. The burden of proof is on them. The
scenario doesn't hold up in this area.

In addition, several transfusion-AIDS enthusiasts say that, since
mass-screening of hospital blood-reserves for HIV began, transfusion-AIDS
has virtually been eliminated; therefore the culprit  HIV. CDC
statistics paint an opposite picture. In 1987 and 1988, 1144 out of the
total of 1466 transfusion-AIDS cases have been reported. In other words,
since HIV has been filtered out of the national blood supply, reported
transfusion-AIDS has risen considerably.

The National Hemophilia Foundation reports there are about 20,000
hemophiliacs of different types in the United States. Slippery estimates
of what percentage have simply tested positive for HIV vary between 50%
and 80%. As of January 11, 1987, the CDC reports 534 total cases of AIDS
among hemophiliacs. This means 4 to 5% of those  to be
HIV-positive, between 1978 and 1987, have gone to be diagnosed as having
full-blown AIDS.

Again, this is no basis for claiming HIV causes AIDS. In addition,
hemopheliacs can develop other immune problems from the many transfusions
they receive --  problems one could wrongly diagnose as AIDS.

In a  letter about hemophiliacs (February 8, 1986), K. L. Schimpf
comments, 'Like Hay et al, we think that progressive liver disease is an
understated problem. Hay et al found by biopsy, progressive liver disease
in 38% of patients  with hemophilia (chronic active hepatitis 26%,
chirrosis 12%). These figures are close to ours.' Judging the varied
character and seriousness of problems in hemophiliacs is not simply a
matter of slapping on an AIDS diagnosis.

Hemophiliacs use very large amounts of (clotting) Factor VIII on a
continuing basis. The concentrates from plasma can expose a hemophiliac to
the blood of 100,000 to 300,000 donors per year.  microbial toxins
and chemicals can thus be passed on.

As authors Hilgartner and Aledort mention in their paper, "AIDS in
Hemophilia" (, Nov. 1984), 'Treatment
with concentrates (Factor VIII) is associated with a high incidence of
cytomegalovirus (CMV), hepatitis B, and non-A-non-B hepatitis.' Immune
disorders found in hemophiliacs include hemolytic anemia and ITP, an
autoimmune blood platelet problem. These non-viral conditions can result
in the outbreak of opportunistic infections, and in this pattern they are
virtually indistinguishable from AIDS.

In the discussion following the Hilgartner and Aledort paper, which was
initially presented at an AIDS symposium, a questioner said, 'The
hemophiliac population in Germany and Central Europe is about one-third of
the same population in the United States. These patients are treated with
similar or rather slightly higher doses of concentrates. They are
comparable . . . and there was not a single case of AIDS reported.'

Hilgartner replied, 'That, I think, is one of the most important facts
that we have heard. In a population treated with even larger amounts of
concentrate than we have used in the United States for a period of three
to five years, there is yet no indication of AIDS. If there had been a
contaminated lot or if there had been a virus or transmissible agent, one
would certainly

tape recorder.

"I am of the belief, belief shared by increasingly by others, that the
so-called AIDS virus, HIV, HTLV-III, pick your own name, is not the cause
of the disease . . .

Let me give you a little history about how I got started on the
AIDS-syphilis connection. Between 1982, when I began practicing, and 1986,
I treated my AIDS patients in very standard, traditional, conservative way
(sic) that any good doctor would manage these patients. And with the best
care I could offer them, with as much time as I possibly could give to
these unfortunate people, between 1982-1986 I lost somewhere in excess of
200 patients, which I believe, if you do a simple little bit of arithmetic
calculation, averages out to approximately one a week. Now a year ago, I
began treating all my AIDS and ARC patients only for syphilis, whether or
not I could prove by conventional criteria that these patients had
syphilis. And I have been treating them in a very aggressive manner -- I'm
gonna go into that shortly -- for a very long period of time. I am not
using any antivirals, and in that year's period of time, I have lost one
patient."

Sec. 2551. Congressional statement of purpose


An ultimate goal of the United States is a world which is free from the
scourge of war and the dangers and burdens of armaments; in which the
use of force has been subordinated to the rule of law; and in which
international adjustments to a changing world are achieved peacefully. It is
the purpose of this chapter to provide impetus toward this goal by
addressing the problem of reduction and control of armaments looking
toward ultimate world disarmament.
The Secretary of State must have the capacity to provide the essential
scientific, economic, political, military, psychological, and technological
information upon which realistic arms control, nonproliferation, and
disarmament policy must be based. The Secretary shall have the authority,
under the direction of the President, to carry out the following primary
functions:

(1) The preparation for and management of United States
participation in international negotiations and implementation
fora in the arms control, nonproliferation, and disarmament
field.

(2) The conduct, support, and coordination of research for arms
control, nonproliferation, and disarmament policy formulation.

(3) The preparation for, operation of, or direction of, United
States participation in such control systems as may become part
of United States arms control, nonproliferation, and disarmament
activities.

(4) The dissemination and coordination of public information
concerning arms control, nonproliferation, and disarmament.

3. Hitler's Ladder to Power

Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany January 30, 1933, and
absolute dictator in March 1933, after two years of expensive and
violent lobbying and electioneering. Two affiliates of the Bush-
Harriman organization played great parts in this criminal undertaking:
Thyssen's German Steel Trust; and the Hamburg-Amerika Line and
several of its executives. Note #1 Note #3

Let us look more closely at the Bush family's German partners.

"Fritz Thyssen" told Allied interrogators after the war about some
of his financial support for the Nazi Party: "In 1930 or 1931 ... I told
[Hitler's deputy Rudolph] Hess ... I would arrange a credit for him
with a Dutch bank in Rotterdam, the Bank fussaur Handel und Schiff
[i.e. Bank voor Handel en Scheepvaart (BHS), the Harriman-Bush
affiliate]. I arranged the credit ... he would pay it back in three
years
I chose a Dutch bank because I did not want to be mixed up with
German banks in my position, and because I thought it was better
to do business with a Dutch bank, and I thought I would have the
Nazis a little more in my hands

"The credit was about 250-300,000 [gold] marks -- about the sum I
had given before. The loan has been repaid in part to the Dutch bank,
but I think some money is still owing on it" Note #1 Note #4

The overall total of Thyssen's political donations and loans to the
Nazis was well over a million dollars, including funds he raised from
others -- in a period of terrible money-shortage in Germany.

"Friedrich Flick" was the major co-owner of the German Steel Trust
with Fritz Thyssen, Thyssen's longtime collaborator and sometime
competitor. In preparation for the war crimes tribunal at Nuremberg,
the U.S. government said that Flick was "one of leading financiers and
industrialists who from 1932 contributed large sums to the Nazi Party
... member of 'Circle of Friends' of Himmler who contributed large
sums to the SS." Note #1 Note #5

Flick, like Thyssen, financed the Nazis to maintain their private
armies called Schutzstaffel (S.S. or Black Shirts) and Sturmabteilung
(S.A., storm troops or Brown Shirts).

The Flick-Harriman partnership was directly supervised by Prescott
Bush, President Bush's father, and by George Walker, President Bush's
grandfather.

The Harriman-Walker Union Banking Corp. arrangements for the German
Steel Trust had made them bankers for Flick and his vast operations in
Germany by no later than 1926.

The "Harriman Fifteen Corporation" (George Walker, president, Prescott
Bush and Averell Harriman, sole directors) held a substantial stake in
the Silesian Holding Co. at the time of the merger with Brown Brothers,
January 1, 1931. This holding correlated to Averell Harriman's chairman-
ship of the "Consolidated Silesian Steel Corporation," the American
group owning one-third of a complex of steelmaking, coal-mining and
zinc-mining activities in Germany and Poland, in which Friedrich Flick
owned two-thirds. Note #1 Note #6

The Nuremberg prosecutor characterized Flick as follows:

"Proprietor and head of a large group of industrial enterprises (coal
and iron mines, steel producing and fabricating plants) ... 'Wehrwirt-
schaftsfuehrer,' 1938 [title awarded to prominent industrialists for
merit in armaments drive -- 'Military Economy Leader']" Note #1

For this buildup of the Hitler war machine with coal, steel, and arms
production, using SLAVE laborers, the Nazi Flick was condemned to
seven years in prison at the Nuremberg trials; he served three years.
With friends in New York and London, however, Flick lived into the
1970s and died a billionaire.

On March 19, 1934, Prescott Bush -- then director of the German
Steel Trust's Union Banking Corporation -- initiated an alert to the
absent Averell Harriman about a problem which had developed in the
Flick partnership. Note #1 Note #8 Bush sent Harriman a clipping from
the "New York Times" of that day, which reported that the Polish govern-
ment was fighting back against American and German stockholders who
controlled "Poland's largest industrial unit, the Upper Silesian Coal and
Steel Company"

The "Times" article continued: "The company has long been accused
of mismanagement, excessive borrowing, fictitious bookkeeping and
gambling in securities. Warrants were issued in December for several
directors accused of tax evasions. They were German citizens and
they fled. They were replaced by Poles. Herr Flick, regarding this as
an attempt to make the company's board entirely Polish, retaliated by
restricting credits until the new Polish directors were unable to pay
the workmen regularly."

The "Times" noted that the company's mines and mills "employ 25,000
men and account for 45 percent of Poland's total steel output and 12
percent of her coal production. Two-thirds of the company's stock is
owned by Friedrich Flick, a leading German steel industrialist, and

Alternative health treatments are entirely a personnel choice. Having watched one of 
my friends die from cancer/chemo and another go through months of chemo hell. He is 
now in remission, about a 30/50 % chance it will show up again in 3/5 years. I 
personally would never use chemo/surgery (except in very extreme cases) or radiation.

The most important point is that you cannot obtain B17 in the US. (go to Mexico) 
Versions of Rife's bioray radio machines have to be purchased in Canada for use on 
"livestock" because of the Rockefeller controlled pharmaceutical companies who are 
making billions out of the hundreds of thousands of Americans who contract cancer each 
year.

Finding a cure is very bad for business, especialy if it turns out to be natural, B17, 
because you cannot patent it. Mass produced machines using Rife methodology would also 
be very inexpensive and therefore far less lucrative. Gavin.

If governments can demonstrate that all neurological and psychological
behaviour is controlled by genes,
then when undesirable genes and behaviour become socially unacceptable
eg. statements like most of americans are mentally unwell - then it becomes
very easy to prescribe corrective pharmaceuticals and disregard any
other social implications of this unease.

There are two great divides in behavioural biology -
1. one that behaviour and aggression is INNATE/GENETICALLY INBORN
2. the other that it is socially  learned
[3. some combination of the above - most likely imo]

If science proves that there is no such thing as a tabla rasa - that the
dice are loaded by genetics, then they don't have to answer for the poor
lifestyles of many victims, their starvation and poverty, rather they can
say that
all disease of the mind is genetic rather than influenced by society.

Although people have for many years tried to make racial/eugenics arguments
against the races/skin colours most trapped by poverty eg. in the states,
and tried to infer genetic inferiority  these ideas have lacked
researched biochemical proof. [proofs that are published in public]

It is a LONG LONG way from the common earthworm to human neurobiology, but
the implications of this type of research should not be lost on us.


Research team creates mutant worms

Discovery shows direct link between gene and behavior
Associated Press

  A study by Utah and Texas researchers has shown how a genetic mutation
may change a worm's feeding behavior.

  The researchers created mutant worms that were unable to eat and
swallow properly.

  "We've shown it's possible to draw a direct line between a specific
gene and a specific aspect of behavior," said University of Utah geneticist
M. Wayne Davis, principal author of the study published this week in the
journal Science.

  "If we can take what we learn in the worm . . . we can move up to
understanding how more complicated behaviors in more complicated animals
like people are made up of smaller behaviors, each controlled by separate
genes," Davis said.

  Science's editors said the study "demonstrated, with unprecedented
thoroughness, the ripple effect of a specific genetic mutation all the way
out to the change in behavior it causes."

  The study "is really terrific," said Cori Bargmann, an anatomy and
biochemistry professor at the University of California, San Francisco.

  She said it is one of a few cases where scientists traced a single
gene to its effect on the transfer of electrical signals in muscles and,
ultimately, to a visible behavior.

  Davis, a postdoctoral fellow in biology, was hired by the University
of Utah last summer. He conducted the research for his Ph.D. thesis at the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

  The study involved Caenorhabditis elegans, a nonparasitic nematode
that has only 1,000 cells and is as long as a dime is thick, Davis said.

  Davis and his colleagues studied a gene named exp-2. When the gene is
mutated a certain way, the worms cannot defecate properly and become
constipated. The same mutation prevents the worm from laying eggs or eating
properly.

  Davis' research team discovered the gene by pinpointing its location
and linking its mutant forms to various abnormalities.

  Exp-2 orders production of a protein. Four of the proteins form a
tube-like potassium channel. Each of the worm's muscle cells has hundreds of
such potassium channels.

  When similar calcium channels open, electrically charged calcium ions
flow into muscle cells, increasing the voltage so the muscles contract.
Then, when exp-2 potassium channels open, potassium flows out, quickly
reducing the voltage so the muscles relax.

  When a normal worm eats, the contraction and relaxation of muscle
cells in its mouth and throat allow it to suck in water and bacteria from
surrounding soil, then spit out the water while swallowing the bacteria,
Davis said.

  Davis compared normal worms with two kinds of mutant worms, which were
created by soaking parent worms in a toxic chemical.

  In one kind of mutant, the exp-2 gene became hyperactive. As a result,
potassium flowed out of muscle cells prematurely, so the worms' throat
muscles began to relax before fully contracting. Worms with two of these
mutant genes could not eat at all and died. Worms with one mutant gene had
trouble sucking in water and bacteria so they ate poorly, Davis said.

  The scientists created a second mutation in which the exp-2 gene did
not work at all. Such worms could contract their throat muscles, but could
not relax them. Those worms sucked in bacteria and water, but could not spit
out the water.

  "They eat very inefficiently," Davis said. "They are partly starved

I don't know about Giuliani(except as an advocate for police brutality), but
these politicians like to squirrel money away out of projects they don't
really believe in.  Maybe Giuliani is doing that with the financial aid for
the homeless.  Governor Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania is getting part of his
kitty money from funds allocated for child care for the working poor in this
state.   Of course he's not shy about using taxpayer money for his own pet
projects.  He and 23 other state officials took a l0-day trade mission to
Europe last September that cost PA taxpayers $267,000.  No one minds of
course because he's a Republican.  It's just the prez and first lady who
should stay put.

'Coutts made $45m offer to pay off rabbi'

and the missing millions

Coutts & Co, personal bankers to the Queen, offered $45 million to
a customer who had threatened to expose an alleged fraud and
money-laundering ring operating within its New York branch, The
Observer can reveal.

The deal, which would have cancelled out an outstanding loan, was
offered to businessman Rachamim Anatian after he claimed to have
uncovered a range of illegal activities at the American branch.
The branch was subsequently shut down with losses of $50 million
and its activities are currently the subject of investigations by
the Federal Reserve Bank and the Manhattan District Attorney's
office. Coutts says the accusations are 'without substance' and
denies any wrongdoing.

In addition to the $45 million, Coutts, through its legal
representatives, also discussed giving Anatian shares valued at up
to $10 million to resolve the dispute which began when the bank
allegedly backed out of an agreement to help Anatian establish a
television shopping network by lending him $100 million.

Anatian demanded that the bank fulfil its commitment or compensate
him and threatened to go public on what he had learnt about the
bank's operations.

He claimed to have been sent to Monaco to attend a seminar
organised by the bank where he was taught systems for concealing
money abroad, evading taxes through fraudulent charitable
contributions, and techniques that could be used for
money-laundering. When Anatian refused to accept the settlement,
Coutts sued him for the outstanding loan.

Even after it began collection proceedings, Coutts remained
willing to write off the loan. In a letter obtained by The
Observer, lawyers acting for the bank write: 'Notwithstanding its
decision to proceed to collect the debt owed to it, Coutts remains
ready and willing to discuss a resolution which would not have an
unduly harsh effect of Mr Anatian and his family.'

Coutts won the case but Anatian is appealing. He is not the only
person involved in legal action with the bank's New York branch.
According to papers in two other cases filed at the US Supreme
Court, between 1995 and 1997, staff at the branch are alleged to
have taken kickbacks, signed up clients who were embroiled in
major criminal trials, hired consultants with reputations for
breaching banking regulations and made multi-million-dollar loans
without adequate security. All the allegations remain unproved and
are denied by Coutts.

The closure of the New York branch was followed by the closure of
branches in Beverly Hills and San Diego. At the time of the
closure, a bank spokesman said: 'In the United States, there were
a small number of significant problems and when we examined the
operation we decided to close it down.'

The investigation by the Federal Reserve Bank is understood to be
focussing on the actions of four senior employees at Coutts New
York, all of whom have subsequently had their contracts with the
bank terminated. A Federal Reserve spokesman confirmed that
generally such files would only be passed on if there was evidence
of criminal activity. No charges have yet be laid.

The four former staff, all of whom dealt with Anatian, claimed
their actions were authorised by Coutts at the very highest
levels. The bank claims they acted alone. One former Coutts
employee, who asked not to be named but knew the four well, told
The Observer: 'There is no doubt in my mind that when I left, they
[the four employees] were taking on some business which was
obviously very, very risky. I told them not to do it, that it
would blow up in their faces, but they did not listen.'

On termination of their employment, the four are understood to
have been given indemnities in which Coutts agrees to cover the
cost of any legal actions against them. The bank has provided them
with funds to meet their 'living costs' for several months.

Among the lawyers who represented Anatian in negotiations is Barry
Slotnick, one of the most famous and respected attorneys in the
United States who has represented the likes of actor Anthony Quinn
and Mafia boss John Gotti.

When details of the proposed settlement with Anatian were put to
Slotnick, he told The Observer : 'I cannot confirm or deny any
details of what was said. All I can confirm is that I had talks
with the lawyers from Coutts about Anatian and that the
discussions were labelled "settlement talks".'

When it was put to the bank that they had offered to pay off the
loan, a Coutts spokesperson told The Observer: 'That did not
happen, we did not make

Set out below are extracts from an article by American investigative
journalist, Gerald Posner, which appeared in the September 1999 launch
edition of Talk magazine. Gerald Posner is best-known for his acclaimed book
on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy - a book which
comprehensively debunks all the main conspiracy theories. These extracts
appear on this site with the kind permission of Mr Posner.
"Nuts-and-bolts problems with the police work were evident from the start.
The scene was not completely sealed until Paris police chief Philippe
Massoni arrived, almost an hour after the wreck. Before that, tourists and
local passers by swarmed the scene, milled around the car, and took photos;
some even grabbed pieces of the wreckage for souvenirs. No one took their
names or confiscated their film and videotape.

"Frederic Mailliez, a 36-year-old doctor who was passing by the accident
scene and who treated Diana until ambulances arrived, told me that he had
simply returned to his car and left. No one questioned him, although if
there had been a murder plot, he might have been the person sent to finish
her off. The next day, after learning his patient had been Diana and that
she had died, Mailliez called the police. "Oh, we've been looking for you,"
a sheepish commissioner said.

"Six paparazzi and one photo agency motorcycle driver were arrested that
night, and three others soon turned themselves in. But the first police
officers on the scene estimated that there had been 20 photographers,
meaning half were never found. French authorities believe that they
confiscated all professional photos taken that night. Yet this past spring,
surrounded by tight security in a clandestine location, I was shown
low-resolution images of pictures taken of a dying Diana still trapped in
the crumpled Mercedes. Those pictures show no firemen or police officers, so
they were apparently snapped immediately after the accident. Diana, in tight
close-ups, looks remarkably uninjured except for a gash over one eye. Her
head is rolled back slightly to the left and her eyes are closed - probably
to shut out the bright camera flashes popping only inches away. Those
pictures were offered to me for $2 million.

"In chasing down one of the crash's most enduring mysteries, the cops may
have stopped running too soon. Nearly a dozen eyewitnesses told the French
police that a Fiat Uno had been involved in the crash. There was physical
evidence to buttress their claims, including traces of white paint and black
rubber found on the Mercedes that could have matched paint and rubber from a
Fiat Uno manufactured between 1983 and August 1987. Taillight glass found at
the crash scene, as well as remains of a Fiat wing mirror, belonged to an
Uno from the same period.

"Within a few months police located a 1986 Uno owned by a 23-year-old
Vietnamese immigrant, Le Van Thanh, who lives three miles from the tunnel.
The car was originally white but had been repainted with a thin coat of red
primer. Le gave conflicting statements about when and how the car had been
repainted before finally admitting it had been done the day after Diana
died. A part-time security guard, Le said he was at work and that a
co-worker could vouch for him, though he could not remember the co-worker's
name.

"The police quietly detained Le in November 1997 and impounded his car. But
they let him go after a mere six hours and soon released the car. Martine
Monteil, commissioner of the Criminal Brigade, later told the London Sunday
Times that Le had been released because "he had an alibi and the examination
of the paint showed it wasn't the right car."

"But that is incorrect, according to confidential police reports showing
that the underlying white paint on the Uno matched Bianco-Corfu 224, the
shade of the traces found on the Mercedes. The rubber from Le's bumper also
matched the marks on the Mercedes. There is no indication that the police
ever verified Le's alibi. The reports also state that the police found no
repairs in the area where the Mercedes would have damaged the Uno. Yet a
photo of Le's Uno in the French file shows an off-white filler that
evidently was used to repair the car. Le himself admitted that the bumpers
had been changed. His brother, who works in a garage, helped out with the
bumper and paint repair work.

"Le did not return repeated phone calls; Monteil refused requests for an
interview. (AI Fayed sought to have his own investigators examine Le's car,
but Magistrate Stephan refused. Today AI Fayed thinks Le played no role -and
believes the missing Fiat was built to order by the CIA for MI6.)

Lord Portsmouth was tonight revealed as the peer who helped
bankroll Neil Hamilton's doomed libel action against Mohamed Al
Fayed.

The man who set up the fighting fund, Lord Harris of High Cross,
told PA News: "Yes, that's right. Lord Portsmouth was one of the
biggest contributors to the fighting fund.

"He is a well known supporter and he's come forward now. He was
the mystery man we called Q because we didn't want to use his
name at all.

"Of course his real name's Quentin so the whole thing's rather
splendid."Lord Portsmouth, 45, who does not take any party
political whip or sit on the cross benches in the Upper House,
now risks being targeted by Mr Al Fayed's lawyers as they pursue
the Harrods' owners costs.

Mr Hamilton faces costs amounting to more than £2 million
following his failed attempt to clear his name of accepting
payments from the tycoon and today said that, even after selling
his two homes, he will not be able to raise enough to cover
them.

Supporters of Mr Hamilton raised a £400,000 fighting fund to
help him bring the case, and High Court judge Mr Justice Morland
yesterday gave him 28 days to hand over to Mr Al Fayed's lawyers
a list of anyone who gave more than £5,000, so that they too can
be pursued for costs.

Eton and Millfield educated, Lord Portsmouth's family title
dates back to 1743 and the family seat is at Farleigh House in
Farleigh Wallop, Basingstoke, Hampshire.

Twice married, he has a son and two daughters, and lists in the
register of Lords' interests that he is a director and
shareholder of Grainger Trust plc, landowner, farmer and
property investor.Lord Portsmouth - Quentin Gerard Carew
Wallop - was a "very independent and outstanding chap" and his
motivation was "to even up the balance between this very rich Mr
Al Fayed and Mr Hamilton", said Lord Harris.

He added: "I don't know what will happen next, but hopefully
nothing over Christmas because we're going to switch off for a
week to 10 days."

Reports today suggested that other possible donors to the fund
included columnist and playboy Taki Theodoracopulos, author and
former Tory MP Gyles Brandreth and ex-Guinness Book of Records
editor Norris McWhirter.

Mr Hamilton said today that he felt like a "broken man" and
would have to sell his £700,000 home in Cheshire and his flat in
Battersea, south London, to make even a dent on his legal bills.

He said: "I put everything I owned in the world to fund this
legal action and I couldn't have done it without the additional
support that I had from hundreds of very public-spirited
individuals.

"I made the calculation myself that I was prepared to put
everything I have spent my whole life working for into the pot
in order to clear my name.

"I personally will have literally nothing left.

"If I had known what was going to result in 1999, I would have
drawn stumps in 1995 when I was stopped from taking my first
libel case against the Guardian. Then at least I would have
preserved my life savings.

"But I had to fight on to clear my name and so I don't regret
doing that, even though we have lost at the end of the day."

Mr Hamilton admitted he had been "humbled" by the court, but
added: "Thousands of people don't believe that the result of
yesterday's case was right and they are right not to believe it.

"Juries can make mistakes and we know there have been lots of
miscarriages of justice in the past.

"I am not protesting and kicking and screaming about it. I know
that the system has worked against me and I am sure that the
members of the jury have in all good faith reached the decision

Kiev, Ukraine:
Two Ukrainian organizations, The Ukrainian Union of Nazi Victims and
Prisoners and The Organization of Antifascist Resistance Fighters,
representing over 300,000 Ukrainian World War II victims of Nazi and
Fascist aggression announced the filing of a class action lawsuit
alleging complicity in war crimes by the Vatican Bank and the Franciscan
Order.  The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court in San
Francisco, California. Case No. C 99-4941 MMC.

This class action on behalf of former Soviet citizens, Jews, and
Yugoslavs, is based in part on a 1997 U.S.  State Department Report
which linked the disappearance of the treasury of the Nazi satellite
state of Fascist Croatia to the Vatican Bank and Roman Catholic Church
Officials. The Fascist Croatian state is credited with murdering over
700,000 Serbians between 1941 and its demise in 1945.  The Serbs were
brutally liquidated in a state sponsored killing spree aimed at
cleansing Croatia of adherents to Eastern Orthodox Christianity and the
foundation of an ethnically pure, Roman Catholic state.  Prime movers in
this ethnic cleansing were militant Franciscan monks, many of whom held
military and civil commands in wartime Croatia.

The Ukrainian organizations allege that Croatian army, navy, and air
force divisions assisted the German Army in occupying Ukraine during the
war.  The Croatian forces also participated in the well documented,
systematic looting of Ukraine by the Nazis.  The suit seeks to recover a
percentage of the Croatian hoard estimated to have been worth as much as
180 million dollars in 1945.

Recent books, including the best selling “Hitler’s Pope” and a soon to
be released Argentine government report, firmly link Vatican
organizations to the Fascist Croatian state and subsequent disappearance
of its treasury following the Nazi defeat.

  As I wrote last week , the Luciferian Masons who control the United
States Postal Service (USPS) raised the domestic first class rate to 33 cents
in January 1999 to celebrate the 33rd birthday of the Antichrist (June 6,
1999).

  While they increased this rate, they decreased the rate for extra
ounces,
from 23 cents per extra ounce to 22 cents.  As a result, the new rates are:
for up to one ounce, 33 cents;  for up to two ounces, 55 cents;  for up to
three ounces, 77 cents.  Each one of these three categories has its own
stamp issues.  For more ounces than three, one can use additional 22-cent
stamps.

  Now, what is the meaning of these three primary rates, 33, 55, and 77
cents?

  33 celebrates the Antichrist's 33rd birthday.  He is supposed to start
his
public career after June 6, 1999.  Moreover, the 33rd degree is the highest
publicly known degree of the Scottish Masonic Rite.

  55 is the number of days that the slain sun "god" stays in the tomb
before his resurrection, according to occult tradition.  We saw this in
practice this year:  there were 55 days between the "slaying"
(Impeachment) of Brother Billy Blythe Clinton on December 19, 1998, the
New Moon of Hanukkah, just before the Winter Solstice, and his
"resurrection" (Acquittal) from the Floor of the Senate on February 12,
1999, the birthday of ritual murder victim Abraham Lincoln.

  77 is the Mark of the Vengeance of Lamech, descendant of Cain, the
first murderer, and father of Tubal-Cain, the progenitor of Hiram Abiff,
according to Luciferian Masonic mythology.  The number 77, of course,
figures prominently in the ritual human sacrifice known as the Oklahoma
City bombing.  Moreover, Washington, D.C., capital of New Atlantis, is
located along the western 77th meridian, along W 77 degrees, 00 minutes,
and 33 seconds.

Since the following has never been reported by the corrupt establishment
media thugs, I thought for sure I'd see a Post by a Subscriber who has
read, The Creature from Jekyll Island;  if it was, then I missed it and
this Post can be considered a re-post.

Am not going to comment on the following as it pretty well describes the
method(s) the elite thugs will take to protect their assets.

All I ask is that by spreading this Post far and wide, we will have
achieved the goal of informing a very ignorant public of the facts of
life, and in that process hopefully we will have jogged the common sense
of those who persist in their state of denial of reality;  it seems that
is all we can do.

After reading this, you might ask yourself the question:
How much longer are we going to permit the thugs to rape us, and what is
it going to take to undo the many wrongs perpetrated upon us?

"PANAMA

The first major score in the game had been made under the Carter
Administration when Panama fell in arrears on the payment of its loans.

A consortium of banks including Chase Manhattan, First National of
Chicago, and Citibank brought pressure to bear on Washington to give the
Canal to the Panamanian government so it could use the revenue to pay
interest on its loans.

Although there was massive opposition to this move among the American
people, the Senate yielded to insider pressure and passed the give-away
treaty.

The Panamanian government inherited $120 million in annual revenue, and
the interest payments to the banks were restored.

As Congressman Philip Crane observed:

At the time of the Torrijos-backed coup in 1968, Panama's total
official overseas   debt stood at a manageable and, by world standards,
modest $167 million.

Under Torrijos, indebtedness has skyrocketed nearly 'one thousand
percent' to a   massive $1.5 billion.

Debt-service ratio now consumes an estimated 39 percent of the entire
Panamanian  budget.

What it appears we really have here is not just aid to a tinhorn
dictator in the form of new subsidies and canal revenues the treaties
would give to the Torrijos  regime, but a bailout of a number of banks
which should have known better than to  invest in Panama and, in any
event, should not escape responsibility for having done so.(1)

The Panama bailout was a unique play.

In no other country did we have an income-producing property to give
away, so from that point forward the bailout would have to be done with
mere money.

To pave the way for that, Congress passed the Monetary Control Act of
1980, which authorized the Federal Reserve to " monetize foreign debt."

That is banker language meaning that the Fed was now authorized to
create money out of nothing for the purpose of lending to foreign
governments.

It classifies those loans as "assets" and then uses them as collateral
for the creation of even more money here in the United States.

That was truly a revolutionary expansion of the Fed's power to inflate.

Until then, it was permitted to make money only for the 'American'
government.

Now, it was able to do it for 'any' government.

Since then it has been functioning as a central bank for the entire
world.

Asia's Future Centers on China and Japan

Summary

Grappling with the future of Asia means we must tackle two central
questions: the extent to which Asia can recover from the economic
disaster of 1997 and the political consequences of that collapse.
The Asian economic crisis marks the end of an era. The future of
Asia depends on the future of China, the region's largest nation,
and Japan, Asia's largest economy.


Analysis

Asia's explosive economic growth lasted for several decades and
embraced most of east and southeast Asia. The universality of
growth profoundly impacted the region's psychology, particularly at
a time when the United States was in decline. It seemed that a
lasting change of the guard was underway. Not only was there a
sense that Asia was surpassing the United States as the center of
international economic life, but there was a deeper belief that the
very nature of international power was changing.

For the United States, power rests on the three pillars of
economics, politics and the military. In recent times, Asia, and
particularly Japan, has rested its power almost exclusively on
economic growth. Prior to the economic crisis in 1997, Asia
appeared to be surpassing the United States economically and seemed
to be redefining the meaning of international power by rendering
traditional, politico-military considerations obsolete.

Asia's rapid economic growth overshadowed the need for military
competition. Moreover, the United States provided for the military
defense of much of Asia. The U.S. Navy served to protect the
region's strategic interests, including shipping lanes, while
keeping in check potential regional powers, like China and Russia.

With intra-regional disputes muted by the shared economic focus,
Asia did not have a great politico-military power. Nevertheless,
the theory went, Asia's economic vibrancy rendered American
military power moot. Indeed, American expenditures on military
power had undermined its own economic competitiveness.


After The Asian Economic Crisis

The Asian economic crisis shattered the region's self-image. Asia
would no longer be the vibrant center of the global economy. A new
consensus emerged with the view that Asia had sown the seeds of its
own disaster. Far from being miraculous, Asian economic growth was
the problem. The economy that had fueled Asian growth had also
undermined capital structure. After all, any economy can grow if it
is indifferent to profit.  It can compete on price and it can
afford investments that would appear irrational in an economy that
measures success by rates of return on capital.

Much said about Asia prior to 1997 was, in retrospect, overblown
nonsense. After all, if the Asian savings rate, work ethic and
discipline were all dedicated to a fundamentally flawed project
then Asian excellence was itself flawed. This realization has been
psychologically shattering. Lacking any politico-military power,
Asians had to confront the illusion that they were at the dynamic
center of the global economy. The burning issue in Asia,
particularly in Japan, was a project in self redefinition that
highlighted unique excellence.

Asia will emerge from the current economic crisis in a markedly
changed condition, but it will remain an influential and
potentially dangerous region. East Asian and Pacific nations
comprised 29.4 percent of the world's GDP in 1997. This unbalanced
over-dependence on the economy as a measure of power will give way
to a more balanced reality, in which economic power by itself will
be supplemented by political and military power.

China exemplifies this tendency. In the face of serious economic,
China has sought to stabilize itself by resorting to other types of
power. It has tried to revive an ideological defense of its
government. It has used military and political forces to suppress
opposition. And it has projected a more complex profile beyond its
borders, moving from a country primarily interested in economic
relations to a nation interested in great power status. Beijing has
made it known that it expects to exercise international political
power based not only on its economic strength, but on its military
power.

Thus, one major consequence of Asia's economic crisis is the return
of Asia to a more normal, balanced status in the world. China has
already returned to a self-image in which power rests on military
and political power as well as economics. We expect that the rest
of Asia will return to this more traditional understanding. In
particular, Japan, the second largest economy in the world, is
likely to abandon its reliance on economic growth in favor of a
more balanced approach, adding politico-military power with the
purely economic.

The future of Asia depends on the future of China, the largest
country, and Japan, the largest economy. This view is

Marcus Licineus Crassus, wanted to rule Rome. Just to give you an idea
of what sort of man Crassus really was, he is credited with invention
of the fire brigade. But in Crassus' version, his fire-fighting slaves
would race to the scene of a burning building whereupon Crassus would
offer to buy it on the spot for a tiny fraction of it's worth. If the
owner sold, Crassus' slaves would put out the fire. If the owner
refused to sell, Crassus allowed the building to burn to the ground.
By means of this device, Crassus eventually came to be the largest
single private landholder in Rome, and used some of his wealth to help
back Julius Caesar against Cicero.

In 70 BC Rome was still a Republic, which placed very strict limits on
what Rulers could do, and more importantly NOT do. But Crassus had no
intentions of enduring such limits to his personal power, and
contrived a plan.

Crassus seized upon the slave revolt led by Sparticus in order to
strike terror into the hearts of Rome, whose garrison Sparticus had
already defeated in battle. But Sparticus had no intention of marching
on Rome itself, a move he knew to be suicidal. Sparticus and his band
wanted nothing to do with the Roman empire and had planned from the
start merely to loot enough money from their former owners in the
Italian countryside to hire a mercenary fleet in which to sail to
freedom.

Sailing away was the last thing Crassus wanted Sparticus to do. He
needed a convenient enemy with which to terrorize Rome itself for his
personal political gain. So Crassus bribed the mercenary fleet to sail
without Sparticus, then positioned two Roman legions in such a way
that Sparticus had no choice but to march on Rome.

Terrified of the impending arrival of the much-feared army of
gladiators, Rome declared Crassus Praetor. Crassus then crushed
Sparticus' army and even though Pompeii took the credit, Crassus was
elected Consul of Rome the following year.

With this maneuver, the Romans surrendered their Republican form of
government. Soon would follow the first Triumvirate, consisting of
Crassus, Pompeii, and Julius Caesar, followed by the reign of the god-
like Emperors of Rome.

The Romans were hoaxed into surrendering their Republic, and accepting
the rule of Emperors.

Julius Caesar's political opponent, Cicero, for all his literary
accomplishments, played the same games in his campaign against Julius
Caesar, claiming that Rome was falling victim to an internal "vast
right wing" conspiracy in which any expressed desire for legislative
limits no government was treated as suspicious behavior. Cicero, in
order to demonstrate to the Romans just how unsafe Rome has become
hired thugs to cause as much disturbance as possible, and campaigned
on a promise to end the internal strife if elected and granted
extraordinary powers.

What Cicero only dreamed of, Adolph Hitler succeeded in doing. Elected
Chancellor of Germany, Hitler, like Crassus, had no intention of
living with the strict limits to his power imposed by German law.
Unlike Cicero, Hitler's thugs were easy to recognize; they all wore
the same brown shirts. But their actions were no different than those
of their Roman predecessors. They staged beatings, set fires, caused
as much trouble as they could, while Hitler made speeches promising
that he could end the crime wave of subversives and terrorism if he
was granted extraordinary powers.

The Germans were hoaxed into surrendering their Republic, and
accepting the rule of Der Fuhrer.

The state-sponsored schools will never tell you this, but governments
routinely rely on hoaxes to sell their agendas to an otherwise
reluctant public. The Romans accepted the Emperors and the Germans
accepted Hitler not because they wanted to, but because the carefully
crafted illusions of threat appeared to leave no other choice.

Our government too uses hoaxes to create the illusion that We The
People have no choice but the direction the government wishes us to go
in.

In 1898, Joseph Pulitzer's New York World and William Randolph
Hearst's New York Journal were arguing for American intervention in
Cuba. Hearst is reported to have dispatched a photographer to Cuba to
photograph the coming war with Spain. When the photographer asked just
what war that might be, Hearst is reported to have replied, "You take
the photographs, and I will provide the war". Hearst was true to his
word, as his newspaper published stories of great atrocities being
committed against the Cuban people, most of which turned out to be
complete fabrications.

EAST PALATKA - The Florida Highway Patrol is now ready for just about
anything. And people who pass by the FHP station in East Palatka can
certainly see that.


Sitting between regular patrol cars in the FHP parking lot, a 16,000-pound
armored personnel carrier causes passersby to nearly break their necks to get
a better look at the thing, something that has FHP Capt. Brent Coates a
little concerned.
“I’m worried that we’re going to have a bad accident,” he said, somewhat
jokingly.


But people can’t help but stare. The massive tanklike-looking thing sticks
out like a sore thumb.


The same thing happened when Coates took the vehicle, known as the Commando,
for a quick spin through an East Palatka residential neighborhood Tuesday
afternoon.
Such odd glares and gaping mouths are the reactions the Commando is meant to
draw when it is needed during events like riots, hostage situations,
barricaded suspects, high-risk felony searches or felony arrests.


Instead of getting a ho-hum reaction from a crowd of demonstrators when
police arrive in basic patrol cars and riot gear, the Commando would probably
make even the most adamant dissidents back off, or at least think twice about
protesting.


But the Commando is meant to protect its occupants, rather than act in an
offensive mode, Coates said. He said the Commando, which can carry up to 12
officers in full tactical gear, can be used to control crowds or help rescue
people.
While the Commando can be used for riots, it was not acquired in anticipation
of riots or problems related to the Y2K bug, or the recent terrorism scare.


Coates said the Commando was one of three obtained by the FHP through the
U.S. Marine Corps surplus program, which allows law enforcement agencies to
get such items for free or at a fraction of the actual cost. The FHP only
paid $250 for the Commando, and that was just to cover the paint job costs.
And what a nice paint job at that. Even though it towers over its neighboring
FHP patrol cars, the yellow and black paint job makes it look like a twin
with a height and weight disorder.
After painting the three Commandos, Coates said FHP officials decided to
space them out geographically in the state’s major metropolitan areas.


So why Palatka, you ask?


Because Coates is the commander of the tactical response team for the FHP’s
northern region. And even though it will be stationed in Palatka, it is
considered assigned to the Jacksonville area.


But the Commando can be used by more than just the FHP.
Since its the FHP’s mandated duty to help other law enforcement agencies,
Coates said the Commando can be requested by sheriff offices and city police
departments.
Along with putting one in Palatka, the FHP put two others in Orlando and
Miami. Coates said the FHP has three other similar, but smaller vehicles
called Peace Keepers in Tampa, West Palm Beach and Miami.


Specifically, the armor-plated Commando can withstand small munitions fire,
can bulldoze barricades or trees and can climb up to 60-degree grades. Coates
said it can also go over vertical obstacles up to 24 inches high and drive
through deep mud, snow or water – and even float. It reportedly can also go
up to 60 mph.


Although a .50-caliber machine gun can be mounted on the top, Coates said the
FHP will not use any high-powered guns on the Commando.

Clinton To Spend $900M on Homeless

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Clinton administration is giving out $900 million to
cities, states and non-profit groups to help some 245,000 homeless people
find their way off the streets and into productive lives.

``Those grants will fund proven, successful programs that help homeless
families, veterans and children and people looking for work,'' President
Clinton said Saturday in his weekly radio address.

The White House's announcement landed squarely in the middle of one of the
nation's most competitive Senate races.

New York City is to receive about $60.5 million of the $900 million,
according to the Department of Housing and Urban Development. But city
agencies won't have much say in how it is spent because Housing Secretary
Andrew Cuomo announced this week that HUD would hand out the money itself.

Cuomo said he acted after a federal court ruled that city officials
demonstrated a pattern of antagonism and acted with ``retaliatory intent''
against a non-profit group, costing the organization $2.4 million in federal
funds.

Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said the move was politically motivated and designed
to help his likely Senate opponent, first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The grants Clinton announced today will go to more than 350 states and
communities, and more than 1,000 non-profit groups.

About $750 million will be spent on long-term programs designed to keep
homeless people off the streets by providing drug treatment, job training and
other social services.

The remaining $150 million will go to provide shelter and food on a
short-term basis to the needy.

Also Saturday, in the Republican radio address, Sen. James Jeffords of
Vermont recited a list of GOP initiatives and the party's election-year
agenda focusing on Social Security and education as the Republicans try to
defend a slim congressional majority.

One day in the House of Representatives a bill was taken up appropriating
money for the benefit of a widow of a distinguished naval officer. Several
beautiful speeches had been made in its support. The speaker was just about
to put the question when Crockett arose:

"Mr. Speaker--I have as much respect for the memory of the deceased, and as
much sympathy for the suffering of the living, if there be, as any man in
this House, but we must not permit our respect for the dead or our sympathy
for part of the living to lead us into an act of injustice to the balance of
the living. I will not go into an argument to prove that Congress has not the
power to appropriate this money as an act of charity. Every member on this
floor knows it.

We have the right as individuals, to give away as much of our own money as we
please in charity; but as members of Congress we have no right to appropriate
a dollar of the public money. Some eloquent appeals have been made to us upon
the ground that it is a debt due the deceased. Mr. Speaker, the deceased
lived long after the close of the war; he was in office to the day of his
death, and I ever heard that the government was in arrears to him.

"Every man in this House knows it is not a debt. We cannot without the
grossest corruption, appropriate this money as the payment of a debt. We have
not the emblance of authority to appropriate it as charity. Mr. Speaker, I
have said we have the right to give as much money of our own as we please. I
am the poorest man on this floor. I cannot vote for this bill, but I will
give one week's pay to the object, and if every member of Congress will do
the same, it will amount to more than the bill asks."

He took his seat. Nobody replied. The bill was put upon its passage, and,
instead of passing unanimously, as was generally supposed, and as, no doubt,
it would, but for that speech, it received but few votes, and, of course, was
lost.

Later, when asked by a friend why he had opposed the appropriation, Crockett
gave this explanation:

"Several years ago I was one evening standing on the steps of the Capitol
with some members of Congress, when our attention was attracted by a great
light over in Georgetown. It was evidently a large fire. We jumped into a

BARAK USES FEAR TO STRENGTHEN GOLAN POSITION: Prime
Minister Ehud Barak, painting a gloomy vision of the Middle East should
the current talks with Syria end in failure, warned there would be "no
way out of another round of confrontation with the Arab world" if this
should happen. He hinted that any new confrontation would be a broad
one and reminded his cabinet ministers of how, not so long ago, 42 Iraqi
Scuds had hit Israel. Likud MK Dan Naveh accused Barak of waging a
"campaign of fear." In the time leading up to the next round, which is to
begin January 3 in the US, Barak said he plans to set up the negotiating
committees. They are to consist of officials from the Prime Minister's
office, the Defense, Foreign, and Justice ministries, and probably
academics.

However, the findings of the Jaffe Institute for Strategic Studies,
released this week, have placed Barak in an awkward position. The
Institute found that the Syrian army has become greatly weakened and
is incapable of fighting against the Israel Defense Force (IDF). Barak
hurried to announce afterwards that the information he has shows that
the Syrian army is very strong and professional. Speaking with ARUTZ-
7, Jaffe Institute researcher Yiftach Shapir noted, "We presently see
Israel at a window of opportunity -- in the sense that its enemies are
either signed on peace deals with Israel, or are very weak. In the case of
Syria, we estimate that its army is very weak, with almost no military
options." ARUTZ-7's Haggai Segal asked Shapir how this jibes with
Barak's claim that should the deal with Damascus fall through, Syria
would send "dozens of Scuds" into Israel. "This just confirms our view,"
Shapir explained. "Syria merely has the capability of scaring and even
terrorizing Israel, but not of carrying out a full-blown war. Syria has not
updated its army since the 1973 Yom Kippur War --in sharp contrast
with the fully modernized Egyptian army, which boasts new US-built
Abrams tanks, F-16 and Mirage 2000 fighter jets. Israel, too, has
modernized its army." In contrast, Col. Moshe Leshem ("Gamla Shall
Not Fall Again" http://www.gamla.org.il/english/index.htm) was skeptical
about the Jaffe Institute study and conclusions. Leshem told ARUTZ-7's
Ron Meir that, "The Jaffe Institute is basically a left-wing institute ...
Whatever they do is [designed] to support the left-wing policies of the
government." He took issue with Jaffe's finding that the Syrian T-72
tanks are outdated, saying that this is "under-estimating the Russian
tank. Our tanks are not so much more modern than the T-72." He also
took issue with the Jaffe Center assumption that Syria could be
analyzed in isolation of other Arab powers, explaining that except for the
1956 Sinai campaign, all the Arab-Israeli conflicts pitted Israel against
Arab coalitions. Leshem said that Israel must therefore look at other
potential enemies: "If one of these countries has a substantial quantity
of weapons, it will seek a coalition with another Arab country [such as
Syria], to outflank Israel and create two fronts, which would divide and

A senior US official said on Tuesday that the next round of peace talks
between Israel and Syria will convene at the Clarion Hotel and
Conference Center in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, a historic town
approximately 75 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., HA'ARETZ
reported.

UN CONTINUES TO PASS RESOLUTIONS: During its 87th general
session, which was convened on Thursday in New York, the United
Nations General Assembly adopted a decision renewing the "permanent
Syrian supremacy" over the natural resources of the Golan Heights and
the "supremacy of the Palestinian people" over the natural resources in
Israel, including Jerusalem. The resolution was adopted by the GA with
a majority of 146 votes with three votes against it (US, Israel and the
Marshall Islands).

TEMPLE MOUNT DESTRUCTION UPDATE: Chai V'Kaiyam leader
Yehuda Etzion continues in his two-track struggle to identify the Temple
Mount artifacts dumped by the Moslem Waqf in the Kidron Valley, and
to hold the Antiquities Authority responsible for continued Waqf

giving us evasive answers, to say the least. They even sent inspectors

Bull the projectile designer who you made mention of was in a country
designing  a weapon of mass destruction to lobe projectiles into Israel
This was the expressed purpose and the nation was by their own admission
in a state of war with Israel. You are obviously saying  that death was
not a clear cut act well within the acts allowed in the Geneva Convention
and any other treaties covering war thaT I know of. I would like to know
your rationale to suggest that death was not within any rule of war and
law that I know of.
You seem to be saying that an all out military attack would have
been preferred under your "rules of engagement." If I am reading your
letter wrong, please correct.

What I was saying is that in my opinion, Bull was NOT a legitimate target
of Israeli assassins.  It's been a long time; I don't remember the details;
but I don't recall that he was killed in Iraq.  I thought it was Paris,
actually.

And yes, an "all out military engagement" might well be more legitimate
than assassinating one person -- that happens.

Obviously I do not have the credentials Mike Orton does. I am a
metallurgical engineer.
The DU was machined in the Phila Naval Frankford Arsenal before
it became an industrial park. The room that DU was machined has been
cleaned up 3 times according to my researches. It could be more. If you
are planning to get a study on DU going, please include the Frankford
arsenal in Phila.and the machinists who worked there.

Though I disagree with you on many thinks, I do think that we have a lot in
common.
Modern technology has placed weapons of mass destruction in the hands of
almost everybody. As Einstein said:"The idiot son has found the box of
matches!"
The world lives under an NCBW threat, and if anything the non nuclear
components are much more frightening  than the nuclear elements. But even
the Nuclear element has become more available.
I have two books in my extensive private library. "The Manhattan Project,
by Stephan Groueff, and "The Invisible Bomb" by Frank Barnarby. The first
shows the huge amount of effort needed by the USA in 44/45, the second
deals with Vanunu's details of Dimona.  The "miniaturisation" between the
two dates, mid 40's to the mid 60's is remarkable.
And there is my personal experience. In the 60's I used STRETCH and ATLAS
super computers. I think the US had about a dozen of them for their H-bomb
project. Yet in the late 80's I bought my first PC that was much more
powerful. Last Christmas, we had a Christmas fair in the village where I

Here is a short report on the Tokaimura accident victim (below).

It should not go unnoted that poor Mr. Ouchi probably has been under severe
torture (if he has been conscious at all) for the past two months, as his
body's cells broke down from the severe radiation, and that there was
really no chance he would survive, nor is it likely the other two heavily
irradiated victims will, and this has been known from the start, but the
Japanese officials wanted to keep these men alive at all costs as long as
possible (preferably past Y2K) for obvious political reasons. [Note:  A
knowledgeable contact tells us that the official severity of the Tokaimura
accident goes up one level because there now has been a fatality within the
first three months after the accident.  This is what the authorities sought
to avoid. -- rdh]  This was not the normal treatment one should expect
after a large-scale nuclear accident.

Mr. Ouchi was undoubtedly given treatments which would bankrupt any country
that had to do such things on a massive scale, and which furthermore could
simply not be done on a massive scale, because the equipment, the blood
components used, the staff, etc. are no more available than the money.

Besides the three highly irradiated souls, several dozen others were
somewhat irradiated (exact amounts are unknown).  Their illnesses might not
show up for decades, and believe me, no nuclear official will notice their
deaths.  Perhaps most -- even all -- will survive, but perhaps not.  The
media will not pay any attention one way or the other.

100,000+ other people in the local community were slightly irradiated.  Any
deaths among those people will be considered "statistically
insignificant".  However, "statistically insignificant" can hide dozens or
even hundreds of deaths -- maybe more.  Thousands, over the next 10 decades
or so, during the lifespans of everyone alive or conceived at the time of
the accident.

And the release went into the biosphere.  So 6 billion others are
being  irradiated, and any deaths that might come, scattered all around the
world in space and time, will go utterly unnoticed [except by the
individuals and those who love them] and be utterly denied by the nuclear
industry.  The only deaths they ever see are the blatantly obvious ones --
Mr. Ouchi's, for instance.

All these deaths and all the suffering pales in comparison -- by many
orders of magnitude -- to what a full-blown nuclear accident at the
Tokaimura site or any other large nuclear facility (including spent fuel
pools) would be like. -- rdh
