Not publicized but true is that the Clinton administration, soon after coming to office, had many briefings on the subject. Laurence Rockefeller provided the information for the President and Mrs. Clinton. Others provided documents and verbal briefings to presidential advisors Jack Gibbons (science), Bruce Lindsay (personal), Anthony Lake (national security) and Vice President Albert Gore. About the same time a three hour briefing was given by Dr. Steven Greer to the sitting Director of the CIA, Admiral Woolsey. Subsequently, Clinton instructed Webster Hubbell, when naming him to the position of Associate Attorney General at the Justice Department, that he wanted him to investigate and report back to him on two things, circumstances surrounding the death of President John F. Kennedy, and the existence of UFOs. Hubbell, despite his position and the presidential imprimatur, was boxed in at Justice Department and never was able to find out. All of this was disclosed in Hubbell's memoir Friends in High Places. Now the lid on UFOs is gradually coming off. There is a national drive underway to get one million signatures on a petition calling for an open Congressional hearing for government employee witnesses. Dr. Steven Greer, Director of the Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence (CSETI), devotes most of his time seeking disclosure of government evidence proving the existence of craft manned by non-humans. I think Corso was murdered by the evil black ops clones which serve no one that you would like to know. Laser is so sensitive that is can actually "hear" and record the electric potentials of nerves as they are transmitted. The interdigital transducer converts the electrical signal into an acoustic surface wave and reconverts the acoustic wave back into an electrical signal. Acoustic surface wave devices can be made precisely and uniformly by photolithographic reproduction techniques are programmable. Such a device recognizes any desired code or signal from among other digital codes even in the presence of considerable 'noise,' responding strongly to the programmed signal and weakly to all others. This kind of device is used in radar technology enabling air-traffic controllers to accurately pick out the unique identification signal of each aircraft as it comes within range. Another silicon chip, IOSA (integrated optic spectrum analyzer) uses surface acoustic waves to convert processed radar signals into sound waves. The sound waves interact with light from a tiny solid state laser and cause the beam to bend toward a detector array made of charge couple devices. The amount of deflection indicates the frequency of the radar signal. This device is part of a telemetry or remote measuring system which involves picking up signals, transmitting them to a distant location for conversion into displays, recordings or comparisons with other data. Automated reaction to information received directly or indirectly may be programmed. Wave analyzers deal with the complex oscillations of the brain in somewhat the same way that a prism separates the colors of a beam of light. The components of this complex wave are isolated by electronic circuits tuned to several frequencies. A statistical average can be determined from many readings. From this information, the versatility of the brain under investigation can be assessed, as well as its repertoire of adaptive stratagems. If mind reading is to take place, this technique must be applied to all parts of the brain at once involving many analyzers. Problems for researchers used to be found in the fact that frequency analysis of tactics might come too late to be of immediate value. In the past, frequency analysis did not give information on how rapidly changing signals from different parts of the brain related, or which of the suggested meanings would be the correct choice. Now, via computer, all this can be instantly known. Suppose it is true, as some officials insist, that the MEG cannot really be read at a distance. If Juan Miguel was so abusive, why did the Miami relatives constantly ask for him to come to the U.S.? Why did this story of alleged abuse surface only AFTER he indeed came here? If this nun indeed heard what she believed she heard when both grandmothers were here (even though before coming here, Juan Miguel's mother-in-law had stated that he was a good father to Elian), why did she and the Miami relatives continue to call for Elian's father to come here for his son? If his father was so abusive, why did Elian, when he was first rescued and before being brainwashed by the Miami relatives and their ant-Castro fanatical friends, say he wanted to go back to his father? The dominant theme in the world in the coming three months will be the economy. This year the United States will experience not just turmoil in the markets but a short, sharp recession that will serve to strengthen the economy over the long term. The effects of this abroad, however, will be less healthy - particularly in Asia. Europe will seek to maintain its business interests in Russia, even as the government there puts a strong hand over the economy and the oligarchs. Latin America will likely escape serious repercussions. Analysis For years, our view of the U.S. economy has been intensely optimistic. More recently, though, we have argued that the robust economy has been due for a short, sharp recession led by a market sell-off. In February, we published "Recession Time?" predicting not only a sell-off but also a recession in the summer and fall of 2000. The markets have clearly begun the sell-off. But the consequences will not be limited to either the markets or the United States. The shake-out in the U.S. economy will only help strengthen its long- term prospects but will reverberate elsewhere. Asia will struggle. Effects will be as political in nature as they are economic, particularly in Beijing. Russia's new president will move to quickly establish control over the economy; thus, a confrontation with the country's oligarchs is likely to happen quite soon. Latin America will likely ride out significant economic turmoil. United States In the United States, the markets have clearly begun the sell-off. The sell-off of Internet stocks is triggered by the fact that too many of the business plans for publicly traded Internet companies make them dependent on subsequent rounds of financing; they are not self-sustaining. As they have launched their plans, though, they have found the markets cool to more rounds of financing. Investors are diving for cover after realizing that many of these companies cannot survive. But the problem is not confined to the Internet stocks. Inefficiencies and irrationalities have crept into other sectors of the U.S. economy. Now, with the interest rate hikes of the Federal Reserve and the increasing conservatism of the markets, the supply of money is becoming relatively tighter, even as the values of both corporate and individual portfolios decline. We don't expect a recession to start in the second quarter - but we do expect the rate of growth to decline. Actual contractions in the economy will occur in the follow-on quarters. Further market declines will follow. Consider that the SP 500 has risen in nearly a straight line from around 500 to around 1500 in five years. A fall to 1000, retracing half of the rise, would not be unthinkable and would not break the long-term bull market that began in 1982. Asia All of this is bad news for the rest of the world economies, particularly for Asia. The greatest problem facing Asia is its inability to form capital. First, Asian speculative money fled to the United States seeking higher returns. Now, as U.S. interest rates rise, a second round of outflow can be expected as Asians take advantage of more conservative investments. This will drive the dollar higher. In a sense, there will be an immediate benefit to the region, as the rising dollar makes exports bound for the United States cheaper. This will have an interesting political effect. An underlying protectionist sentiment has been masked by the prosperity of recent years. But as the economy weakens, the pain of imports will rise - and so will protectionist politics in the presidential elections. Both George W. Bush and Vice President Al Gore are free traders, but the export surge will likely prove too much for Gore - who has strong trade union support - to resist. In turn, this will intensify Washington's problems in Asia. It will make already difficult relations with Beijing even

STEVEN SPIELBERG, the Oscar-winning director of the Holocaust movie Schindler's List, was one of the main financial backers of the American academic unsuccessfully sued by the disgraced historian, David Irving. Mr Spielberg was one of a group of prominent American Jews who gave money to Professor Deborah Lipstadt, the academic whom Mr Irving sued for libel after she described him as a Holocaust denier. Professor Lipstadt, who was vindicated in the courts last week, told Telegraph yesterday that she had received financial backing from a number of different individuals and organisations, but declined to go into details. Speaking from her home in Atlanta, Georgia she said: "I was helped by a variety of people but I am really not at liberty to say who did or didn't back me. It's not for me to confirm or deny one way another. I just don't feel comfortable giving the details. I will say there are people who gave $18 and people who gave more." However, one individual close to the case told The Telegraph that naming Mr Spielberg as a financial backer "would not be far off the mark". According to a report in the Jewish Chronicle, contributions to Professor Lipstadt's defence fund may have been funnelled through the Shoah Foundation, an organisation set up by the film director to raise awareness of the treatment of Jews during the Second World War. Penguin books and Professor Lipstadt's own university both contributed to the huge costs of the case. But a number of wealthy individuals agreed to help when they realised a defeat for the American academic would be a gift for far-Right extremists across the world. A ready cash flow was essential given the enormity of the task facing the defence team. More than a dozen lawyers and experts gathered witnesses and evidence from around the world. Professor Lipstadt's successful defence depended upon painstaking research into Mr Irving's background, in particular his links with neo-Nazi organisations in America and Germany. Additional funding may still be needed because Mr Irving has announced that he is to appeal against the Mr Justice Gray's ruling. Last week he claimed to have received as much as $10,000 from one supporter in the United States. Mr Irving who has been told he must meet the entire £2 million costs of the case, said he would not be surprised if Mr Spielberg had provided financial help. He said: "I know she has received funding from a number of sources. I will say this whole thing has backfired on them. If they had agreed to pay £500 to charity then the whole thing would have gone away. But they insisted on making it such a big issue and spending so much money on it. I think they are beginning to regret that because there has never been so much interest in me." Since the release of Schindler's List in 1993, Mr Spielberg, who is himself Jewish, has emerged as a key figure in the fight to promote awareness of Hitler's Final Solution. Most of the profits of the film, which won seven Oscars, have been poured into the Shoah Foundation which aims to create a permanent record of the suffering of Hitler's victims. One of its principal aims is to undermine revisionist propaganda of the kind espoused by Mr Irving and his supporters. Shoah is the Hebrew term for the Holocaust. The Foundation has produced a documentary called The Last Days, that recorded the testimony of 50,000 survivors, from 57 countries and in 32 different languages. In a separate development, Penguin Books is in talks with Mr Justice Gray to see if they can publish his judgment in book form. The company is already planning to reissue the book that sparked off the original libel trial. It will have a new introduction giving a detailed history of the case. Irving is being pursued by an American court over allegations that he failed to repay several thousand pounds to the widow of one of his supporters. Irma Kerstan sued Irving after he refused to repay more than $10,000 (£6,300) lent to him by her late husband Max, a former German soldier who supported the historian's work. Washington DC - British intelligence agencies have threatened legal action against newspapers if they reveal the address or contents of a US web site that has published a top secret leaked intelligence report. The threats are the latest in series of British government actions against internet leaks. The British campaign has already closed more than three websites - including one each on Yahoo and Geocities - and have led to a string of reporters and editors being threatened with fines or imprisonment if they report what they see on the net. The latest leaked document is the most highly classified recent report ever to be published on the internet. Each of its pages is marked "TOP SECRET DELICATE SOURCE UK EYES A". It is also the first to have come from the files of the British Security Service, usually known as MI5. The designation "UK EYES A" or "ALPHA" means that the report was never intended to be seen even by American agents. Most British intelligence reports are routinely shared with US agencies. The top secret files on the Libyan Intelligence Service appeared on Friday at www.cryptome.org/, a New York web site that specialises in reproducing new material on intelligence, privacy and cryptography issues. The popular, frequently visited and constantly updated site is run as a hobby by John Young, a New York architect. According to his web pages, the secret report reached him from an anonymous source. British government officials do not deny that the report is authentic, and moved on Saturday to suppress reporting of the information. The British authorities claim that to publish anything from the report would break a court order in Britain, and could render the publisher(s) liable to prosecution for contempt of court. Despite the threats, however, the London Observer newspaper decided to publish a detailed print report on the affair in its Sunday editions. They did so despite having a specific warning from British government solicitors that if they did so, it would allegedly breach an injunction (ban on reporting) issued against a former British intelligence officer. Despite the threats, as of Saturday evening, British authorities had not approached Mr Young or his ISPs, and the sensitive pages were still on view. Agent led British intelligence "down the garden path" The British government has claimed that the leaked file can be traced to David Shayler, a former Security Service officer who now lives in exile in Paris. Mr Shayler's revelations, for which the British government sought unsuccessfully to deport and jail him, have been a thorn in the side of the London spy agencies for four years. The leaked report confirms previous claims by Shayler that British intelligence bungled the attempted recruitment of a Libyan agent, Khalifa Ahmad Bazelya. Shayler has previously claimed that Bazelya was foolishly admitted to Britain and then led British intelligence "down the garden path" while conducting a series of intelligence operations on behalf of the Libyan regime. The result of this incompetence, he claims, was the murder in London on 26 November 1995 of Ali Abuzeid. Abuzeid was one of a number of Libyans who had taken part in a British secret service financed plot to assasinate Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi the previous year. He had been given British citizenship and allowed to settle in the UK. The Top Secret report suggests that after his death there was a cover-up involving British police and the Conservative government, which played down Libyan government involvement in the murder. The report sets out in detail the activities of the career spy who had already come to the notice of British and US intelligence officers before coming to Britain. He had been expelled from Ethiopia in March 1991 for allegedly funding rebel activity, including the supply of weapons used in the assassination of an Ethiopian Minister. Intelligence sources said that weapons were smuggled in the Libyan diplomatic bag and Bazelya was expelled after this was discovered and one of these consignments was seized. He was also believed to have been a prominent member of the Revolutionary Committee, which was directly responsible for hanging 13 anti-regime student activists at a university in Tripoli. In January 1992, the FBI reported that Bazelya had links with the Provisional IRA and had visited Dublin on a number of occasions to meet contacts. During his time in the UK, Bazelya was in regular contact with Musa Kusa, the notorious head of the Libyan intelligence service, who was wanted in France for a terrorist attack. [CTRL] Lansdale in early 50s?
Howdy all, Back from my mom's house. While I was there I looked through an old guest book and lo and behold there were two Ed Lansdale sigs, he visit my folk's home in Jan and then in June of 1950. My dad was then working at CIA, Branch Chief head of RA for East Asia. He was soon to go covert and we as a family went to Indonesia. Our family returned to US after my dad became ill about a year and half later. Then later in early 1956 my folks went on a "missionary trip" to SE asia and they met with Lansdale in Toy Ninh vietnam in the end of May. One of my mom's captions says they were meeting "out from Saigon with Col. Lansdale N. Vietnam Military leaders, I didn't get to ask her about that caption, but will. Also it was one of the rare times on the trip that he went to meetings and places without her. Now in April of 1955 Lansdale had just fought a pitched battle with with the French SDECE over the 'Underworld ventures" of the French, some "river pirates and the Corsican mercenaries." It is my understanding that my dad left the CIA because, as my mom says he "didn't agree with what they were doing." When exactly that was I don't know, but it looks to be not long after that trip to SE Asia. So my question is - Does anyone out there have info on what Lansdale was doing in 1950? "WWW" = "Information Super Highway" From www.wsws.org WSWS : News Analysis : The Internet French anti-racist group sets dangerous precedent in court action against Yahoo! By Mike Ingram 17 April 2000 Back to screen version A Paris-based anti-racism group is taking legal action against the Internet portal Yahoo! over the auction of Nazi memorabilia on its web site. Yahoo! runs public auctions in which users can post items for sale on which others users then bid. The International League against Racism and Anti-Semitism (Licra) called for a boycott of Yahoo! sites in February in protest at the presence of Nazi memorabilia in its online auction pages. It is now seeking an injunction in a Paris court to force the California-based company to stop the sale in France. Yahoo! does not sell such goods from its French site where such action would be illegal, but no such legislation exists in the US. Also in February, Yahoo! came under attack from the Anti-Deformation League, which accused it of hosting dozens of sites that promoted messages from racist hate groups including neo-Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan. Yahoo! frequently provides links to white supremacist and neo-Nazi organisations as background material to their news articles. However healthy an opposition to such forces may be, the action taken by Licra is both wrong and dangerous. As an Internet portal, Yahoo! is not responsible for the content on either its site or the auctions it carries. Items are submitted by readers and purchased or read by other readers. Yahoo! is simply the carrier for such items. Licra's demand for an injunction coincides with a number of other actions against Internet Service Providers (ISP) and web sites, aimed at establishing the responsibility of these for content, regardless of where it originates. Most recently, a libel writ by Dr. Lawrence Godfrey forced Demon Internet in the UK to pay £15,000 in costs. The case set a legal precedent that ISPs are responsible for the information stored on their servers, including newsgroup postings and web pages created by subscribers. Legal experts said the action had widespread implications that went beyond the borders of the UK. It effectively means that someone can suein the British courts where libel law favours the plaintiffan American ISP for an article appearing in a US newspaper carried on their site. The Licra action would extend this precedent in demanding that a French court exercise jurisdiction over an American company and demand the removal of content because it is accessible from within France. The action by Licra is also fundamentally flawed not only from the standpoint of democratic rights but that of political perspective. If the prevention of the distribution of Nazi memorabilia will prevent the growth of right-wing and fascistic forces, how does one explain the fact that in both France and Germany, where such laws exist, we have witnessed not only the growth of fascist movements, but racist and anti-immigrant policies being adopted within the mainstream political establishment? The issue that should occupy socialist and progressive forces is not protests against the sale of fascist memorabilia but how to develop a coherent mass political movement against such reactionary forces. In this the freedom of the Internet is crucial. If the French courts can impose a ban on Yahoo!'s US site on this issue, the way will be open for them and others to do so in relation to other matters. On the Internet, as in other spheres of life, legal action intended to oppose the forces of the right will inevitably be used with greater force against those on the left. This is interesting given that the French were more than well-enough prepared to repulse the Germans militarily in 1940. They just didn't. How we scapegoated asylum-seekers

How do you stop a "flood" of refugees reaching Britain? Make the lives of the
persecuted and poor intolerable. Then twist the screw tighter.
Nick Cohen reports
An Algerian calls from the Campsfield internment centre in Oxfordshire with a
snippet of news from a brutal social crisis. He's a member of the Islamic
opposition who escaped when the war between fundamentalist and government death
squads got too hot. He applied for asylum, was refused, went on the run and was
caught. He will make a profit for Group 4 until he is deported. The Home Office
has told the Algerian authorities he's on his way back. He expects a welcoming
committee.
Can I help? "I doubt it," I think. "I'll give it a go," I say. "May I use your
name?" God dwells in the detail in journalism. Proper names, dates, places turn
what would be unprintably vague meanders into hard, specific pieces. But I
can't write anything. Publicity would further antagonise the Algerian
authorities, he replies. I sigh and reflect that asylum-seekers might have been
designed by a committee of the Conservative and new Labour parties, mandarins
and the Mail as the model scapegoat for snobs to throw to the mob. They're too
frightened to bleat even when they're beaten by the righteous.
On the radio, William Hague and Barbara Roche are having a competition. Roche,
the new immigration minister, is learning quickly that a smart palming of the
race card from the bottom of the deck can turn censorious eyes from the
collapse of her department. She tells parliament of the "dreadful burden" that
cozening asylum-seekers lay on gullible taxpayers. The burden is 19p per
citizen per week. It would be lighter if either Michael Howard or Jack Straw
had attended to his duties and cleared the backlog of 100,000 unresolved cases.
Both might have tackled the failure of the computers at the Home Office's
Immigration and Nationality Department to do anything so technical as work.
Howard might not have sacked immigration officers. Straw might have thought for
a couple of seconds before allowing an office relocation programme that threw a
confused department into chaos. Both might have ensured that their underlings
stopped issuing inadequate and contemptuous refusals of asylum which can be
challenged for years in every available tribunal (and are thus a positive
incitement to economic migrants to apply).
But the great advantage of the scapegoat is that the beast takes the blame for
the blunders of others. In theory, I know the history of the powerful's
manipulation of prejudice well. Yet it is still stunning to see, in your own
time and land, the weak persecuted as master criminals, while the inciters of
racial hatred and mere incompetents vibrate with their sole sympathy: self-
pity.
When Siemens, the German information geniuses, did to the Passport Office what
it had already done to the asylum service, no one denounced "bogus
holidaymakers". Straw apologised in person to citizens queuing at Petty France
and the system was made to work sharpish. What would an apology to asylum-
seekers be like? It would take days to deliver.
Hague meets the Roche challenge on the Today programme. A political paradise of
lower taxes and lavish public services could be ours if only we stopped
spending a fortune mollycoddling those who seek sanctuary. The sly creeps are
so back-breakingly burdensome that their very presence is all that prevents us
living on the Big Rock Candy Mountain.
Last year, Hague's MPs opposed the government's ferocious asylum bill. Along
with the Liberal Democrats, they warned that ministers' sickly caveat - "but we
have nothing against genuine refugees" - was a lie. The ports would be closed
in April 2000 to honest refugees as well as economic migrants. The drivers of
lorries, cars, planes, boats and trains would throw them out to escape fines of
£2,000 a passenger. ("Anne Frank would have been turned away" if Blair had been
in power, shouted one former Thatcherite.) The opposition deplored Straw's
proposal to strip asylum-seekers in Britain of their jewellery and watches.
("You'll be wanting the gold fillings out of their teeth next," cried a
second.) Mike O'Brien, Straw's smug deputy, responded in the language he likes
best. The Tories were "soft on immigration", he sneered. They were "the illegal
immigrants' friend".
No way was the Conservative leadership going to be out-niggered by new Labour.

The marshals would be necessary because of the crowds surrounding the Miami home. Members of the Cuban-American community in Miami have vowed to resist any attempt to physically remove Elian from his Miami relatives. But one official said the department is remaining flexible, not committing itself to any one course of action, until the end of the federal appeals court process. The Miami relatives, headed by Elian's great-uncle Lazaro Gonzalez, have asked the appeals court to order the Justice Department not to transfer Elian's custody to the boy's father, and not to let Elian be removed from the United States, until the relatives' battle to keep the boy is exhausted in the federal courts. In response, the Justice Department has asked the appeals court, headquartered in Atlanta, to order the Miami relatives to surrender the boy. In return, the department has promised to use its power under federal immigration law to prevent Elian's departure from the United States. Marshals ready if needed for Elian United Press International - April 17, 2000 12:49 By MICHAEL KIRKLAND WASHINGTON, April 17 (UPI) -- The Justice Department has developed a variety of plans to enforce the law in the Elian Gonzalez case. Sources told United Press International Monday that under one plan U.S. marshals would protect immigration agents if they had to forcibly remove the 6-year-old from the home of Miami relatives who are refusing to give him up. The marshals would be necessary because of the crowds surrounding the Miami home. Members of the Cuban-American community in Miami have vowed to resist any attempt to physically remove Elian from his Miami relatives. But one official said the department is remaining flexible, not committing itself to any one course of action, until the end of the federal appeals court process. The Miami relatives, headed by Elian's great-uncle Lazaro Gonzalez, have asked the appeals court to order the Justice Department not to transfer Elian's custody to the boy's father, and not to let Elian be removed from the United States, until the relatives' battle to keep the boy is exhausted in the federal courts. In response, the Justice Department has asked the appeals court, headquartered in Atlanta, to order the Miami relatives to surrender the boy. In return, the department has promised to use its power under federal immigration law to prevent Elian's departure from the United States. Officials said Monday that the marshals would only be used if, as expected, the Miami relatives lose their federal appeal and still refuse to turn over the boy. Elian's mother and at least 10 other Cubans drowned at sea when they fled from Cuba to the United States in November. Elian, one of three survivors, was rescued off Florida on Thanksgiving Day. In January, the Immigration and Naturalization Service ruled that the boy's Cuban father, Juan Miguel Gonzalez, was the only one who "could speak" for Elian in immigration matters. Juan Miguel, his current wife and their 6-month-old son flew from Cuba to Washington earlier this month, and have been living in the vacated home of a Cuban diplomat. On March 25 of this year, my husband George and I attended the Reform Party of Virginia convention. The main speaker was Pat Buchanan. I am bringing this up because a friend who was in attendance asked, "Where are the Serbs? There should be Serbs here!" I couldn't have agreed with him more. Early immigrants to America of Greek and Serbian descent, as well as others of the Eastern Orthodox faith, traditionally belonged to the Democrat Party. They believed that the Democrats were for âthe people.â Today, many of those people and their descendants have become Republicans as times and perceptions of party goals have changed. However, many people, such as my husband and I, are deeply concerned about the role of both political parties in the disgraceful and illegal war our country waged against Yugoslavia and the Serbian people. Although we are not Serbian, we have common cause with our Serbian Orthodox brothers and sisters, we see the future danger to Greece, we see our country moving toward conflict with the Russians and we see the sovereignty of our nation being sold to the highest bidder for the sake of âthe bottom lineâ and the New World Order. The time came when we asked ourselves who, and which party, shares our concerns. The answer was discouraging: Neither of the major parties. While Clinton, Albright and Wesley Clark were illegally destroying Serbia, the leaders of the Republican Party were either supporting them or standing back without protest. Now we are in the campaign to decide who will be the next President of the United States. Will the person you support reverse what has been happening in the Balkans, or will he continue the current policies? Just as my husband and I made a choice, you must now make a choice also. We look upon ourselves as ârecovering Republicans.â It was a tough decision but we have made a commitment to (1) get the Reform Party on the ballot and in the Presidential Debates, and (2) get Pat Buchanan elected as President of the United States. We canât do that unless you join us. If you truly believe in your hearts that you want justice for the Serbian people, the ONLY candidate who has had the courage to speak of the injustices being committed against them and of their suffering is Pat Buchanan. Leaders of both parties want to continue punishing the Serbian people claiming that Serbs have relinquished any rights to govern Kosovo because of alleged atrocities perpetrated against ethnic Albanians. For those Serbs who belong to the Democratic Party, you have been betrayed. For those Serbs who belong to the Republican Party, you have been betrayed. You owe neither of these parties any loyalty. I feel the same as an American of Greek descent because I know that both Gore and Bush are pro-Turkish and when the time comes, both parties will sell the Greeks out just as they did the Serbian people. The choice is now yours. Do you want the Serbian people to continue to be punished by both parties, or do you want a candidate who owes loyalty to the American people, who wonât send our young soldiers into illegal or Quixotic misadventures in quest of global hegemony by the New World Order? 'For child pornography, this is as important as the World Trade Center bombing.'" = http://www.wirednews.com/news/politics/0,1283,35684,00.html Huge Kid Porn Ring Busted by Lynn Burke 3:15 p.m. Apr. 14, 2000 PDT Underneath a monstrous heap of electronic kiddie porn, federal prosecutors have uncovered a suburban Texas couple, three foreign webmasters, and thousands of customers worldwide who left behind a trail of credit card charges totaling $1 million. Federal prosecutors, who watched with glee as a grand jury handed down an 87-count indictment against the peddlers Thursday, say they've never had such a big case. U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Paul Coggins said the case is a major step forward in a high-stakes fight against the people who sexually abuse children and sell images of the abuse on the Web. Catching the webmaster, he said, makes finding their victims a real possibility. "Where these webmasters are establishing sites could well be where these scenes of sexual abuse take place," Coggins said. Prosecutors say the children in this case are 4-12 years old. "These kids are being scarred for life somewhere, (and) someone needs to be prosecuting." The indictment charges Fort Worth's Thomas and Janice Reedy with operating a commercial kid porn ring from their home. According to the Texas Secretary of State, the Reedys incorporated their company, called Landslide, Inc., on Feb. 13, 1997. Prosecutors say Landslide acted as the "gatekeeper" between one Russian and two Indonesian webmasters who supplied customers with pornographic images of children in exchange for US$29.95 per site. Landslide supplied the password-protected access to the sites -- including childrenforcedtoporn.com, childrape.com, and childrenofgod.com -- and handled the credit card transactions. Those charges left behind a handy trail of evidence for prosecutors, who say the Reedys made $1,111,266 in less than a year. They kept a third of the profits and sent the rest to the foreign webmasters. People close to the case said the size of the Reedys' business was enormous. "The extent of the kiddie porn business, the scope of the customers, (and the fact that) they are spread across the states and across the globe, shocked me," Coggins said. Lead prosecutor Terri Moore agreed, calling the scope of the operation "absolutely frightening." "I'm a seasoned prosecutor and I was appalled, I was floored," she said. Parry Aftab, director of anti-child pornography group Cyberangels, called Landslide a major commercial scheme, setting it apart from most child pornography on the Internet, which is not commercial. "This is a very, very important case," she said. "For child pornography, this is as important as the World Trade Center bombing." Without commenting specifically on Landslide, Aftab said commercial rings are extremely dangerous and even deadly for the children who are targeted. "They are particularly heinous," she said. "Many of them kill the children after they abuse them. They use foreign children, from Eastern Europe and South America. It is the kind of world you can't imagine." The Reedys, who are being held in federal prison until a detention hearing next week, have been forced to take down their alleged kid porn, and most of the sites they once operated are now out of service. But they're still using the landslide.com site to assert their innocence. "We have committed no illegal act, and are confident to be found innocent of any such charges," the site reads. They're even soliciting funds for their defense on the site. "Please buy an Adult Check ID, and show your support to fight this injustice!" their message reads, with a link to a form where customers can offer up their credit digits. They also offer several links to the paid adult pornography sites that are still running, even as they are being held in jail. If found guilty, the Reedys face stiff penalties for each of the 87 counts handed down, which carries with them a maximum penalty of 15 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. The Russian webmaster is charged with 12 counts of the same crimes, while the Indonesian webmasters face 16 counts each. U.S. prosecutors are hoping to extradite the accused and try them in Dallas. Prosecutors hope the Landslide bust will signal an end to the relative ease with which people have been peddling the illegal material over the Internet, but say they know the problem is not likely to go away anytime soon. "It's a major case. It's like we caught the head of three (drug) cartels. And it will have repercussions," said Coggins. "But it would be extremely naïve to say this is the end of it. STRATFOR.COM Weekly Global Intelligence Update 17 April 2000 Forecast for the Second Quarter of 2000: The Global Economy Summary Today we launch our forecast for the second quarter of 2000. The dominant theme in the world in the coming three months will be the economy. This year the United States will experience not just turmoil in the markets but a short, sharp recession that will serve to strengthen the economy over the long term. The effects of this abroad, however, will be less healthy - particularly in Asia. Europe will seek to maintain its business interests in Russia, even as the government there puts a strong hand over the economy and the oligarchs. Latin America will likely escape serious repercussions. Analysis For years, our view of the U.S. economy has been intensely optimistic. More recently, though, we have argued that the robust economy has been due for a short, sharp recession led by a market sell-off. In February, we published "Recession Time?" predicting not only a sell-off but also a recession in the summer and fall of 2000. The markets have clearly begun the sell-off. But the consequences will not be limited to either the markets or the United States. The shake-out in the U.S. economy will only help strengthen its long- term prospects but will reverberate elsewhere. Asia will struggle. Effects will be as political in nature as they are economic, particularly in Beijing. Russia's new president will move to quickly establish control over the economy; thus, a confrontation with the country's oligarchs is likely to happen quite soon. Latin America will likely ride out significant economic turmoil. United States In the United States, the markets have clearly begun the sell-off. The sell-off of Internet stocks is triggered by the fact that too many of the business plans for publicly traded Internet companies make them dependent on subsequent rounds of financing; they are not self-sustaining. As they have launched their plans, though, they have found the markets cool to more rounds of financing. Investors are diving for cover after realizing that many of these companies cannot survive. But the problem is not confined to the Internet stocks. Inefficiencies and irrationalities have crept into other sectors of the U.S. economy. Now, with the interest rate hikes of the Federal Reserve and the increasing conservatism of the markets, the supply of money is becoming relatively tighter, even as the values of both corporate and individual portfolios decline. We don't expect a recession to start in the second quarter - but we do expect the rate of growth to decline. Actual contractions in the economy will occur in the follow-on quarters. Further market declines will follow. Consider that the SP 500 has risen in nearly a straight line from around 500 to around 1500 in five years. A fall to 1000, retracing half of the rise, would not be unthinkable and would not break the long-term bull market that began in 1982. Asia All of this is bad news for the rest of the world economies, particularly for Asia. The greatest problem facing Asia is its inability to form capital. First, Asian speculative money fled to the United States seeking higher returns. Now, as U.S. interest rates rise, a second round of outflow can be expected as Asians take advantage of more conservative investments. This will drive the dollar higher. In a sense, there will be an immediate benefit to the region, as the rising dollar makes exports bound for the United States cheaper. This will have an interesting political effect. An underlying protectionist sentiment has been masked by the prosperity of recent years. But as the economy weakens, the pain of imports will rise - and so will protectionist politics in the presidential elections. Both George W. Bush and Vice President Al Gore are free traders, but the export surge will likely prove too much for Gore - who has strong trade union support - to resist. In turn, this will intensify Washington's problems in Asia. It will make already difficult relations with Beijing even harder. It will also create problems with Japan, where nationalist sentiment in the figure of Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara is rearing its head. A recession in the United States will not only weaken Asian economies but also create significant opportunities for trade friction between the United States and a large portion of Asia. Viewed on its own terms, Asia remains susceptible to a relapse of the economic collapse of 1997. Its export-based economies are still dependent on U.S. consumption and need further foreign investment. Higher U.S. interest rates will draw from that pool of investment; a slower U.S. economy will reduce the consumption of Asian products. A downturn in the U.S. economy generally means that inefficient enterprises are weeded out; in Asia, however, it will mean another crisis. While the Asian economies

If you are one such prosecuting attorney, and you are reading this, go out and buy the current issue of The Nation magazine. Rip out the 30-page investigative article titled "The Secret History of Lead," by Jamie Lincoln Kitman, drop in your standard indictment form, and then run down to the courthouse and file it. That will be the easy part. The companies will then hire the best white-collar crime law firms in the business and come after you with all of their resources to defeat the indictment. But reckless endangerment is reckless endangerment. And the people need a chance to bring justice to those who perpetrated this atrocity. It will be worth your while. Given the publicity this case will generate, you might even be elected to higher office. (For precedents, see Rudolph Giuiliani, former white- collar crime busting U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York, who went on to be mayor of New York, and William Weld, former Assistant Attorney General who went on to become Governor of Massachusetts.) Kitman's article is about how the makers of leaded gasoline -- duPont, General Motors, Standard Oil of New Jersey (now ExxonMobil), and Ethyl Corporation (which started out as a joint venture between GM and Standard Oil) -- systematically suppressed information about the severe health hazards of their product for decades. These companies knew from mid-1920s that leaded gasoline was a public health menace, yet they went ahead and put lead in gasoline anyway, to prevent engine knocking. This despite the fact that safe anti-knock substitutes were cheaply available. But the companies rejected them because they would be unprofitable. From the 1920s until 1986, when leaded gas was banned from the market in the United States, lead was spewing from tailpipes of automobiles, where it entered the bloodstream of humans. In children, lead lowers IQs, and increases learning disabilities, hyperactivity and behavioral problems. In adults, elevated lead levels are related to blood pressure increases, cardiovascular disease and heart attacks. Lead expert Dr. Paul Mushak, in a 1988 report to Congress, estimated that 68 million children had toxic exposures to lead from gasoline from 1927 to 1987. A 1985 EPA study estimated that as many as 5,000 Americans were dying annually from lead-related heart disease before the lead phase-out in the United States Lead was identified as a hazard thousands of years ago. It was not as if executives at GM and duPont and Standard Oil and Ethyl didn't know what the hazards were. In fact, those who worked with lead immediately became sick. Kitman estimates that dozens of workers died from lead poisoning. Workers knew that going crazy was an early sign of lead poisoning. Standard Oil's Bayway facility in Elizabeth, New Jersey was known in the 1920s as "the house of butterflies," because, as Kitman told us, in some cases "when you are experiencing acute lead intoxication, you start hallucinating, and believing that you are being attacked by winged insects." Workers going crazy and dying created a public relations nightmare in the 1920s. The papers picked up on it, and citizens began believing that they were being poisoned by the lead coming out of their tailpipes. To save their deadly enterprise, in 1924, the corporations pulled lead off the market and asked the Surgeon General to hold a hearing, which he did in May 1925, to consider what one public health expert called "the single most important question in the field of public health that has ever faced the American public." And the hearing lasts for six hours and forty five minutes. The Surgeon General concluded that the question couldn't be definitively answered and recommended that a committee of experts be set up. The committee was duly set up and reported back some months later that a) leaded gasoline can be manufactured safely, and b) they can't verify that leaded gasoline won't result in injury and they can't prove that it will in the short time they have. So, this placates the public, and lead gets back in gasoline for another forty years. Until the public became concerned about air pollution -- smog -- and the car companies built catalytic converters. Lead had this wonderful way of destroying the catalytic converter -- so one or the other had to go -- and finally, lead met its match. We called the Lead Industries Association to ask about Kitman's article. They refused to respond. Then we called Ethyl Corp. which is still selling tetraethyl lead as a gasoline additive for sale all around the world, except in the United States and Europe. Lloyd Osgood, a spokesperson for the Richmond, Virginia- based Ethyl Corp., was kind enough to read us a statement. She called Kitman's piece "a distorted

My personal experience covering presidential politics goes back over 40 years and eight presidents. I have also closely followed corrupt politics in three cities. No one has ever accused me of not being cynical enough about politics. Yet when Clinton came along, I was impressed. Forget about Lewinsky. That's a shell game that has successfully kept everyone's attention off some basic facts: -- From his mother, who hung out with Mafia leaders at the race track, to his very first campaign, in which he was bankrolled by an uncle tied to the New Orleans mob, Bill Clinton grew up in a thoroughly dishonest, corrupt, and often illegal environment. He can be fairly called our first mob president, because he is in no small part the political product of the Dixie Mafia, a criminal confederacy more deadly even than its northern peers, among whose major activities has been the use of certain southern states such as Arkansas as domestic narco-republics. This didn't start with Clinton and it hasn't ended yet. As recently as two years ago, Arkansas Highway Police seize $3.1 million in cash from four suitcases in a tractor-trailer rig's sleeper section. The driver was charged with money laundering among other things. The seizure was the fourth largest in American history and nearly fifty times more than all the illegal money seized by Arkansas highway police in a typical year. -- We have never had a White House that has stonewalled, obstructed justice, and had its associates lie, take the Fifth, or flee the country so frequently in order to cover up events or avoid prosecution. We have never before had a president who lied under oath and been caught. We have never had a president's wife give such patently evasive answers to Congress, saying "I don't recall" or its equivalent some 50 times in 42-paragraph statement. Never. -- We have never had so many associates and firms connected with the White House be convicted of, or plead guilty to, so many crimes. Never. -- These crimes did not involve sex, but drug trafficking, racketeering, extortion, bribery, tax evasion, kickbacks, embezzlement, fraud, conspiracy, fraudulent loans, illegal gifts, illegal campaign contributions, money laundering, perjury, and obstruction of justice. -- We have never had so many illegal campaign contributions, with so many coming from foreign sources. Never. -- We have never had so many witnesses in criminal investigations associated with the White House who have died under suspicious circumstances. Never. -- We have never had a president among whose associates there have been so many suicides, murders, and unexplained deaths. The number of these, even by the most conservative accounting, exceeds, say, the number of persons killed by the NY Mafia during its peak decade of the 70s. This is not to say Clinton is alone in his corruption. As I wrote in "The Great American Political Repair Manual," "There is a world of difference, however, between simple human error and premeditated malevolence. One of the most remarkable things about American politics over the past thirty years is how often the latter has intruded on the normal workings of our democracy. Many of these incidents have been poorly reported or only briefly covered and then forgotten. The cumulative story has been almost totally ignored. We need not finally determine who killed JFK and for what reasons to recognize a more generic fact: our politics has been repeatedly interrupted and distorted by assassins, mobs, rogue intelligence agents and agencies, freelance conspirators, drug runners, massive corruption, illegal financial manipulation and off-the-shelf government operations." Mob politics began in earnest with John Kennedy, who, like Clinton, grew up in a mob-enhanced environment and retained mob ties throughout his career. This influence manifested itself at the Bay of Pigs and, some have argued, in his assassination. Only rarely -- as when Carter tried to clean house at the CIA -- has any subsequent president really challenged this new dark and dirty system of governance. Clinton has simply embraced it. Remember, too, that all this is before we get around to such other issues as Clinton's assault on democracy and civil liberties, the unprecedented incarceration of Americans, or his attack on the social programs and values his own party painfully constructed over 60 years. Cadaver skin puffs up the lips of fashion models at $1,050 a shot. Dentists use ground bone about 200,000 times a year to treat their patients. Glossy catalogs advertise 650 products made from body parts. A single dead body yields raw materials worth tens of thousands of dollars to businesses whose stock is traded on Wall Street and to nonprofit agencies that obtain the parts for them, records and interviews show. Nowhere in the country are grieving families told that their gifts fuel a fast-growing industry predicted to hit $1 billion within three years. Neither are the millions of Californians who put a pink dot on their driver's licenses indicating their willingness to donate body parts. "People who donate have no idea tissue is being processed into products that per gram or per ounce are in the price range of diamonds," said Arthur Caplan, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Bioethics. The products enhance millions of lives, according to industry trade groups. Cadaver tendons help athletes return to the playing field. Slings crafted from human skin solve bladder troubles. Corneas prepared for implant allow the blind to see. About 20,000 dead Americans became part of this manufacturing cycle in 1999, four times the number of bodies used for vital-organ transplants. The tissue trade now generates about $500 million annually. "There is a profit," said Michael Jeffries, chief financial officer for Osteotech Inc., a leader in the bone business. "It's not an evil thing because the profit is put to good use." But trade in body parts has sparked questions from donor families and medical ethicists about ties between companies that sell body parts and nonprofit organizations that solicit them. The tissue banks act as middlemen for their corporate partners. Families are led to believe they are giving the gift of life.

She never made it, but her bones did. Her journey testifies to how families can be emotionally crushed in the rush to harvest body parts. "That was the body that I lotioned and powdered and took to the doctor when it had a rash and kissed every night, so whether that body is alive and breathing, it's still my baby's body," her mother, Lucinda Ramirez, said. In March 1995, Heather Ramirez was 19, a year out of high school and working at a grocery-store deli. After a long night partying, Ramirez lost control of her truck at a bend in the road. She was thrown out the window and killed. Greg and Lucinda Ramirez knew they would be asked to donate their daughter's organs and tissue. Lucinda Ramirez was a nursing assistant at Tucson Medical Center, where her daughter's body was taken. They agreed to give Heather's corneas to a local eye bank. To the American Red Cross they gave her heart valves, veins and skin, but not her bones. The Red Cross took them anyway. Red Cross officials said it was an honest mistake, that the technician who harvested the tissue misread the consent form. Court records show the technician also forged documents to mask the error. The Ramirezes sued, and more than two years later the Red Cross returned the bones. "We gave something so precious to them, and they betrayed us," Lucinda Ramirez, 42, said. "When I first found out, I just sat down and cried." The family thought bone donation, more than anything else, would change the way Heather saw herself in the mirror. It's hard to explain why skin and veins from her legs could be donated, but not bones but the Ramirezes said it just felt right. When she died, a hospital worker crossed out the bone section of the consent form. But a Red Cross technician removed her leg bones. When the family found out, the technician forged Greg Ramirez's initials to make it appear he had consented, court records show. "We understand that this has caused the Ramirez family some distress, and we are saddened by that," Red Cross spokesman Mike Fulwider said. "We responded by doing everything we could to locate and return Heather's bones to the family." Sitting in his easy chair, a life-size portrait of his daughter looming behind him, Greg Ramirez can barely rein in his rage five years later. "It was like they raped her," Greg Ramirez, 46, said, pounding his fists into the armrests. Like many donor families, the couple didn't want to know the details of how their daughter's body was harvested. Through the legal fight, they were confronted over and over by the image of her body being carved up and packaged. They wanted to remember her as a spunky child on the verge of adulthood. "She was just starting to figure out what she wanted to do with her life," Lucinda Ramirez said. "Whatever it was, it had to be on the ocean. She wanted to live on the ocean in California." Her bones did make it to California, briefly. Greg and Lucinda Ramirez sent them to a laboratory in California to be DNA tested, after the Red Cross returned the bones in October 1997. The Ramirezes said they weren't taking any chances. The Red Cross also paid the family an undisclosed amount of money. "We didn't trust anybody at that point," Greg Ramirez said. It begins with a series of allegations and accusations that first appear in the New York Times and which are usually written by reporter Jeff Gerth. It then continues with other articles in the Mainstream Media which repeat the same allegations and accusations, which by now are being mentioned daily by Republican politicians and pundits. After a month or so of this, a few articles will appear in the Mainstream Media which attempt to set the record straight, but these are usually ignored by a partisan Mainstream Media intent on reporting innuendo and shrill claims. As you will read below, the ChinaGATE 1 "Scandal" was actually an outgrowth of a partisan Republican effort to "tar" the Clinton Administration and the Democratic Party with the accusation that the Chinese government was attempting to buy influence with that Administration and that political party. Although you would be hard pressed to find this information in many of the news articles cited below, the decision to launch U.S. satellites on Chinese space launchers was made by the Reagan Administration following the Challenger tragedy. This policy initiative was continued in the Bush Administration and then into the Clinton Administration. As you will also read below, the transfer of the authority over the satellites from the State Department to the Commerce Department was originally an initiative of the Bush Administration which did not take effect until the Clinton Administration. Much of this factual information was not in the original ChinaGATE 2 posting to these web pages because of my ignorance. I did not know of an important National Security Council report and of four news articles which had been made part of the Minority Views in House Report 105-582 of June 16, 1998. until a fellow researcher, Tom Sawyer, found them and brought them to my attention. No one in the media has attempted to determine the political contributions of Hughes, GE, or Lockheed Martin, or the employees of these corporations to the Republican Party or to Republican candidates during the Reagan or Bush administrations. The only press coverage of ChinaGATE 1 during the Bush Administration evidently appeared in a SINGLE Washington Post article on the Bush "Scandals" by Michael Isikoff on July 4, 1992 during the 1992 presidential campaign. This article described, in passing, son Neil Bush's role in the looting of the Silverado SL in Colorado, the awarding of an exclusive offshore oil drilling contract by the government of Bahrain to an inexperienced Dallas firm whose board of directors included son George W. Bush, and brother Jonathon Bush's difficulties with Massachusetts regulators because he was selling stocks in the state without registering there as a stockbroker. Somehow, reporter Isikoff missed the SINGLE Washington Post story on the FORGIVENESS of a $4.6 million dollar loan from FEDERALLY-INSURED SL to Jeb Bush in 1990, or the alleged interference of the President himself in the 1984 investigation of a Florida SL that failed in July 1985 with bailout costs of $680 million dollars to the American taxpayer. But the Bush family was also active in China and Japan during this time. According to Isikoff: The president's older brother, Prescott Bush Jr., 69, an international business consultant who lives in Greenwich, Conn., repeatedly has been accused of capitalizing on his brother's position -- and indirectly benefiting from his policies -- in search of business opportunties in China. In February 1989, 10 days before recently inaugurated President Bush was due to visit China and other Asian countries, Prescott Bush flew to Beijing on his own Far East tour. He already was a partner in an $18 million joint venture with a Japanese firm called the Aoki Corp. to build a country club outside of Shanghai for foreign business executives. During the February 1989 trip, Prescott Bush also was serving on the senior advisory board to a New York firm, Asset Management International Financing and Settlement Ltd., which paid him $250,000 a year as a consultant. Those with deep faith in authority claim that there can't be large government conspiracies, since someone would come forward to blow the whistle, which would topple the cover- up and the whistleblower would become a rich famous hero, only emphasizing why they would want to come forward. Well, as usual, faith in authority proves thicker than the facts. Lester Coleman was a Defense Intelligence Agent who blew the whistle on a U.S. government drug-running operation that bypassed normal airport security, which may have been the means by which the bomb was slipped on board. O'Neill was told for the first time yesterday by the Sunday Herald that he had failed four key questions during a lie detector test investigating his role in the Lockerbie bombing. The result of the test pointed towards O'Neill being the man who ordered that the bomb be placed on the plane. O'Neill insisted that he did not lie in the polygraph but he did admit that he knew the Drug Enforcement Agency - an arm of US intelligence - was using Frankfurt as a route to smuggle heroin into America as part of a secret plan to finance the freeing of US hostages in Beirut. O'Neill's polygraph showed that he lied when he said he did not know who ordered the switching of the cases and when he said he did not order the switching of the suitcases himself. O'Neill also allegedly lied in the test when he said he did not see the cases being switched and when he said he did not know what was in the switched suitcases. These stone fortresses seem to represent a hardened view of the world. [In more recent years, some modern looking buildings were added.] An example, is one such place with an almost unknown history. It is called the Home for Destitute Crippled Children. In the 1930s, a well-known orthopedic surgeon there took time off to visit Nazi Germany. He came back, pro-Hitler, and refused to administer the only Jewish child in the hospital. In the 1980s, on campus was a seminar on Germany and World War Two. I asked a question about the pro-Hitler past of the University and their hospitals. A seminar participant, Milt Rosenberg, demanded I turn off my tape recorder and that my question not be answered. [A forbidden subject: Rosenberg reportedly speaks for the Jewish aristocracy, not the common people, that favored Hitler.] With an intelligence agency background, Rosenberg has for many years conducted a talk show on the Chicago Tribune-owned WGN Radio. His Tribune bosses in the past were very pro-Nazi. Is it still a secret that after World War Two, the newly-created American CIA brought Nazi war criminals to America to the University of Chicago, to supposedly promote "science"? When the U.S. was sucked into the war, the Rockefellers'Standard Oil of New Jersey refused to participate in the manufacture of synthetic rubber tires for the U.S. war effort. They had a deal with the German petro-chemical octopus, I.G. Farben, to split patents and royalties. War or no war, Standard Oil was not going to counter the secretive deals. Few ordinary Americans knew of this treasonous arrangement. Some still do not know. So, by the 21st Century, the press seldom mention the Rockefellers linked to the Unversity of Chicago and their hospitals and such. A rare example, however: "The University of Chicago wants to break the contract it made with John D. Playing in the fields near home, they stopped at an overpass to wave with delight at cars streaming down the highway below. Then they vanished. No word, no trace, no hint of what might have happened. The day was June 24, 1995, and their hometown of Grace-Hollogne, a suburb of Liege in southeastern Belgium, lay at the very heart of West European civilization. Nearby is the German city of Aachen, the seat of Charlemagne's court 1,200 years ago, and just downstream on the River Meuse is Maastricht, birthplace of the European Union. At this crossroads of five countries, the heir of such a proud history, how could two sunny children simply disappear? Like Eurydice, they seemed to have been swallowed up by the earth, taken to some netherworld that mortals could only guess and shudder at. All guessing ended last week when the netherworld's curtains parted, and Belgians sensed that their homeland had suddenly transformed into the heart of darkness. Amid an outpouring of grief and rage unlike anything in recent memory, Belgium buried its smallest of missing citizens in a pair of white coffins. The Liege funeral, broadcast nationally on television, followed a week of one shock, heartbreak and outrage after another. Police had dug up Julie's and Melissa's bodies in the backyard of a house owned by Marc Dutroux, 39, an unemployed electrician who had no fewer than six houses in and around Charleroi, some 70 km southwest of Liege. After interrogation, Dutroux had led authorities to the burial place and admitted killing an accomplice, Bernard Weinstein, whose body was found in the same backyard garden. Dutroux also disclosed a hideaway where two other abducted girls, ages 12 and 14, were still alive. They emerged pale and tearful from a homemade dungeon hidden behind a cellar cabinet. The 14-year-old's mother said her daughter had been drugged and raped several times, and the 12-year-old had been sexually attacked as well. So wrenching was the pace of these discoveries that Belgians had not finished feeling relief over the rescue when they heard of Melissa's and Julie's fate: starved to death after spending nine months in the underground dungeon, their food supply cut off when Dutroux went to jail for another crime. As if all that were not hideous enough, the jobless handyman then confessed to the abduction of yet another pair of girls, An Marchal, 17, and Eefje Lambrecks, 19, friends who had disappeared while vacationing on the Belgian coast last August. Police said they had reason to believe these teenagers may still be alive elsewhere in Europe--perhaps swept up by an international ring of pedophiles and sex slavers. Concern for these missing youngsters intensified, and Europeans in general recoiled in horror from the tale. It exposed a macabre underground of child molestation that most people like to think could not exist--at least not in placid, enlightened Europe. What revolted public opinion most, however, was the way authorities had so mishandled these cases. They had long known about the prime suspect and his prior record, could have seen that he lived far beyond his ostensible means and even searched his premises more than once. Yet they inquired only in a desultory way, and they cold-shouldered the victimized families' anxious inquiries and offers to help. A convicted rapist, Dutroux was paroled in 1992, just three years after his sentencing to 1312 years on multiple charges of kidnapping, unlawful confinement and sexual violation of five girls ages 12 to 19. The grounds for his release: good behavior. As recriminations engulfed the Justice Ministry last week, the police got scorched as well. Leaked documents disclosed that investigators had received tips about Dutroux's designs on children as long as three years ago, and that late last year they had visited the house where Melissa and Julie were being held captive. The visitors left when Dutroux told them the children's voices they heard were those of his own kids. The system is worthless, 36-year-old Jean-Denis Lejeune, Julie's father, told TIME last week. All we can hope for now, he said, is that their deaths will have served a cause. This event was part of a Theatre Vision "Festival of Light" to bring this technology to theatres across America. After the charity event, Cameron and Bush were both at a private banquet at the Houston Country Club. Why is the presence of George Bush so significant? It's known that George Bush was the former director of the CIA in the 1970's, Vice-President to Ronald Reagan during the 80's and President of the United States from 1988 to 1992. But it's also known that Bush is a 33rd Degree Freemason, member of both the Council on Foreign Relations and the Trilateral Commission and a member of the Harvard fraternities known as the "Skull and Bones" and "Scroll and Key". Another interesting revelation in the James Cameron Conspiracy Theory is that MK-ULTRA mind control technology, developed by the CIA in the 1950's was embedded into Cameron's films from the beginning of his career to the present. MK-ULTRA came to an end in 1973 on orders from then CIA Director Richard Helms. After Helms left the CIA, George Bush became director under President Gerald Ford in 1974. According to Helen Harris, Titanic was the "first" film in Theatre Vision in which the director has described his own work. In the conspiracy theory about Cameron, it described how Dr. Donald Ewen Cameron, the father of MK-ULTRA would record his voice and play it to patients as a form of mind control. Could James Cameron's voice overs in Titanic be used for the same purposes, for mind control? Theatre Vision theatres provide special head phones to the blind which allows them to listen to the film and the voice overs describing action. Harris had also stated that people who aren't sight impaired are using the headsets provided and don't put them down. Perhaps a clue to the power of subliminal voice patterns being introduced into this technology? Could this be the reason George Bush attended this event, to see the fruitition of a new generation of MK-ULTRA mind control technology being used on the unsuspecting public? Anarchists have developed detailed and sophisticated analyses of how the wealthy and powerful use the media to propagandise in their own interests. Perhaps the best of these analyses is the "Propaganda Model" expounded in Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chomsky and Edward Herman, whose main theses we will summarise in this section (See also Chomsky's Necessary Illusions for a further discussion of this model of the media). Chomsky and Herman's "propaganda model" of the media postulates a set of five "filters" that act to screen the news and other material disseminated by the media. These "filters" result in a media that reflects elite viewpoints and interests and mobilises "support for the special interests that dominate the state and private activity." [Manufacturing Consent, p. xi]. These "filters" are: (1) the size, concentrated ownership, owner wealth, and profit orientation of the dominant mass-media firms; (2) advertising as the primary income source of the mass media; (3) the reliance of the media on information provided by government, business, and "experts" funded and approved by these primary sources and agents of power; (4) "flak" (negative responses to a media report) as a means of disciplining the media; and (5) "anticommunism" as a national religion and control mechanism. "The raw material of news must pass through successive filters leaving only the cleansed residue fit to print," Chomsky and Herman maintain. The filters "fix the premises of discourse and interpretation, and the definition of what is newsworthy in the first place, and they explain the basis and operations of what amount to propaganda campaigns" [Manufacturing Consent, p. 2]. We will briefly consider the nature of these five filters below (examples are mostly from the US media). We stress again, before continuing, that this is a summary of Herman's and Chomsky's thesis and we cannot hope to present the wealth of evidence and argument available in either Manufacturing Consent or Necessary Illusions. We recommend either of these books for more information on and evidence to support the "propaganda model" of the media. D.3.1 How does the size, concentrated ownership, owner wealth, and profit orientation of the dominant mass-media firms affect media content? Even a century ago, the number of media with any substantial outreach was limited by the large size of the necessary investment, and this limitation has become increasingly effective over time. As in any well developed market, this means that there are very effective natural barriers to entry into the media industry. Due to this process of concentration, the ownership of the major media has become increasingly concentrated in fewer and fewer hands. As Ben Bagdikian's stresses in his book Media Monopoly, the 29 largest media systems account for over half of the output of all newspapers, and most of the sales and audiences in magazines, broadcasting, books, and movies. The "top tier" of these -- somewhere between 10 and 24 systems -- along with the government and wire services, "defines the news agenda and supplies much of the national and international news to the lower tiers of the media, and thus for the general public" [Ibid., p. 5] The twenty-four top-tier companies are large, profit-seeking corporations, owned and controlled by very wealthy people. Many of these companies are fully integrated into the financial market, with the result that the pressures of stockholders, directors, and bankers to focus on the bottom line are powerful. These pressures have intensified in recent years as media stocks have become market favourites and as deregulation has increased profitability and so the threat of take-overs. The media giants have also diversified into other fields. For example GE, and Westinghouse, both owners of major television networks, are huge, diversified multinational companies heavily involved in the controversial areas of weapons production and nuclear power. GE and Westinghouse depend on the government to subsidise their nuclear power and military research and development, and to create a favourable climate for their overseas sales and investments. Similar dependence on the government affect other media. Because they are large corporations with international investment interests, t he major media tend to have a right-wing political bias. In addition, members of the business class own most of the mass media, the bulk of which depends for their existence on advertising revenue (which in turn comes from private business). Business also provides a substantial share of "experts" for news programmes and generates massive "flak." The location of this theatre is very telling. I spent weeks researching the
title to that property and other Houston land in which the owners had an
interest. These men were not only connected to George Bush and his friends,
but they also had connections to the Bronfman family, which is one of
Clinton's biggest donors. Here is part of what my research revealed:
In 1962 the Houston Corporation received a loan from Rice University for
$850,000, secured by land just north of the Galleria and five tracts on the
south line of Westheimer. The first tract, which fronts on S. Post Oak, in
October 1970, was conveyed to Gimbel Brothers, Inc. of New York. This land
had previously been leased in February, 1965 to Loews Theatre Realty
Corporation, but the lease was terminated in 1970. Gimbels acquired a
portion of Lot 7 in that block from I.S. and Sam Brochstein in 1972. This
property is Houstons Saks Fifth Avenue shopping center (the Pavilion) in
the Galleria. According to Anthony Sampson, Gimbels and Saks Fifth Avenue
and later Marshall Fields were purchased by British American Tobacco (BAT),
but he does not say when.
In December 1977 Gimbel Brothers and Saks Fifth Avenue conveyed the property
to a corporation called 1800 South Post Oak Corporation which received a
loan from Northwestern Mutual Life and then leased it back to Saks.
According to Ralph Bivins in his article in the Houston Chronicle on August
19, 1995, 1800 South Post Oak Corporation was actually a British pension
fund. An agreement attached to the lease shows that all shares of the
corporation were owned by Airways Pension Fund Trustees, Ltd., with its
offices at Kershaw House, Great West Road, Houndslow, Middlesex, England,
c/o Jones Lank Wootton, 375 Park Avenue in New York (the Seagrams Building).
The address for Saks and for Gimbels was 1275 Broadway. According to David
G. McComb, Sakowitz announced in 1955 that it would build a store at the
corner of Post Oak and Westheimer, but the store did not open until 1959.
In 1963 Joskes opened a store across the street, and Neiman-Marcus was
built at that intersection in 1969.
In August 1965 George Butler, as president of the Houston Corporation, sold
a tract of land in the same subdivision to Post Oak Bank Building Co., which
constructed the Post Oak Bank of which he was president. According to
Tarpley and Chaitkin in their unauthorized biography of George Bush, Butler
"represented the ultra-secretive W.S. ("Auschwitz") Farish III, ... [who]
was the founder and controlling owner of Butlers Post Oak Bank, and was
chairman of the banks executive committee as of 1988." But it is possible
that Farish was merely nominee for other parties, since he was partner in
both Underwood, Neuhaus and W.S. Farish Co.
The Houston Corporation also owned the tract on which the Spectrum office
building at 5858 Westheimer was constructed. This blue glass building,
located at a diagonal angle back from Westheimer, is accessed on Augusta,
but it backs up to an innocuous office building called 2425 Fountainview,
which is adjacent to one of the branches of the Charter Bank at 2401
Fountainview. Both 5858 Westheimer and 2425 Fountainview are connected with
the Duncan Coffee heirs, and both were built by Duncans favorite builders
in Houstona firm called Treptow and Murphree. According to Marguerite
Johnston, Duncan Coffee was founded by H. M. Duncan, a Kentuckian who came
to Houston in 1907 to visit his uncle, J.W. Neal, who made Maxwell House
Coffee. Charles W. Duncan, Sr. was his brother. The two brothers owned
Duncan Coffee Co. together. Charles, Sr. had two sons: Charles, Jr. and
John House Duncan. H.M. Duncan married Linnie Dunn, who, after his death in
1957, married Joseph Jefferson Wynne. One of their daughters, Amelia
Duncan, was married to Lewis N. White, a partner at Vinson Elkins, and
another, Harriet, was married to Paul A. Taft. Family trusts were set up
at Bank of the Southwest, with the banks trust officers acting as their
financial advisors.
In 1981 a builder named Frank Hudson was also located in the same building.
Hudson, who was president of Cadillac Development and Cadillac Fairview, had
previously given his address as 5901-R Westheimer, a small space in a strip
center at the southwest corner of the Fountainview intersection.
Butler does not appear to have a strong connection to the Duncan or the
Hudson brothers, but he seems to have been there just ahead of them.
Another example is that the Houston Corporation in 1961 borrowed $400,000
from Jesse Jones Bankers Mortgage Company, secured by Lots 6 and 7 and part
of Lot 8 of Block 135 downtown

I wondered how you could possibly be correct in claiming that the federal income tax was not compulsory for most Americans when the IRS had issued me a badge, gun, handcuffs, and their enforcement equipment to ensure that all Americans did comply. After spending many evenings and weekends over a 2 year period carefully researching your claims, I concluded that you were telling the truth. The information you provided, and my subsequent research, led me to conclude that in order for the federal income tax to be administered within the confines of our federal Constitution, the federal income tax laws and regulations were written in such a way that comparatively few Americans are legally and constitutionally required to pay it. I also verified your claim that the 16th Amendment was never ratified and that the U.S. Government largely finances its operations with debt currency/funds rather than federal income tax revenues. These were obviously not the conclusions I expected to reach. Nonetheless, when I reached these conclusions, I knew I had a duty to discuss them with my supervisors in the Internal Revenue Service. I gathered some of the more compelling facts and evidence supporting my conclusions about your claims and submitted them to IRS officials in the form of a report. In keeping with my oath of office, I informed IRS officials of my sincere. concern that the rights of Americans were very likely being violated and I asked them to show me the error of my

The ACJ was a political action committee set up by wealthy American conservatives immediately after the war to lobby Washington and to fight the initiatives on reforming Japan that were being championed by liberals whom the ACJ scathingly referred to as 'New Deal Democrats' and 'communist fellow travellers'. The ACJ was backed by Newsweek, the magazine founded in 1937 by Averell Harriman and others. (Harriman's brother was a News week director.) The magazine championed the Wall Street view of Japan's future. ACJ's chief organizers were Harry F. Kern, Newsweek's foreign editor; Compton Pakenham, the magazine's Tokyo bureau chief; and James Lee Kauffman, a New York lawyer who had taught at Tokyo University between 1913 and 1919 and had served as an attorney in Japan for General Electric, Standard Oil, Westinghouse, Ford, National Cash Register, Otis Elevator and Dillon Read. Kern was a personal friend of the Harrimans, and Pakenham had grown up in Japan and as one critic put it -'looked upon most indicted war criminals in Tokyo as [his] childhood playmates'. After the war, Kern and Kauffman were both given high honours by Hirohito. Grew's co-chairman at the ACJ was another member of the Hoover circle and a former ambassador to Japan, William Castle. Descended from one of Hawaii's plantation-owning grandee families, Castle had been an undersecretary of state during Hoover's presidency. Grew's right-hand man at the ACJ was Japan-born career diplomat Eugene Dooman, who had worked with Grew at the State Department during the war. Their self-proclaimed mission was to correct SCAP 'excesses' to reverse America's early efforts to punish, reform and democratize Japan. In the summer of 1947, Kauffman visited Tokyo on behalf of Dillon Read and made a personal assessment of the Truman administration's secret plan for the break-up of the zaibatsu. The secret FEC-230 documents were then leaked to New sweek by Undersecretary of the Army William Draper, in civilian life a senior partner of Dillon Read. In December 1947, while America was gearing up for its presidential election campaign, Newsweek began a series of articles denouncing SCAP-1. The magazine accused SCAP of running amok and exceeding its authority. SCAP was trying to impose 'an economic theory which has ... no counterpart anywhere else in the world. It is not communistic but it is far to the left of anything tolerated in this country.' Newsweek went on to warn American taxpayers that this plan posed grave dangers to their wallets. 'Japan is costing the American taxpayers millions of dollars a year.' Breaking up the zalbatsu would 'weaken the Japanese economy to the point where the maintenance of Japan would become a continual charge on the American taxpayer'. It was vital, Pakenham said, to get Japan back on track and make it 'a fertile field of American capital'.-- snip -- When the war ended, MacArthur's G-2 General Charles Willoughby and other intelligence officers backed secret recovery operations that netted huge sums, according to some of the American officers who participated. The gold was slipped into the market cautiously to avoid affecting world gold prices. These recoveries continued intermittently over the years. One such effort involved America's John Birch Society, a virulently anti-communist organization named after an American who was killed by Maoist forces during the Chinese civil war. In the mid- 1970s, the society lent nearly $500,000 to an American treasure-hunter to finance a recovery in the Philippines, promising to help him launder up to $20 billion of the recovered gold. (The society seemed to believe that it was perfectly correct to break American laws regarding the illegal laundering of money, providing it was done to finance anticommunism.)
