I hold to the firm scientifically provable that you can judge all nations by
the food.
Americans you can write off because all they ever produced are hamburgers.
And the brazilians love black beans that show their sub conscious racism
and the japanese eat whales- so you cant trust them
and the yorkshire people are so stingy that they give you their puddings
before the meal so that you you think they are finished so that you leave
the table.
and the turks are terrible because they put to much salt on their food.
the only nation you can trust is the english, because their food is so
terrible they must have somethig good about them(and please remember to
shoot the next haggis you see as they are really viscious.

please take all my comments on food really seriusly as I am very sensitive

Re: [CTRL] Smyrna

1999-09-12 Thread Prudence L. Kuhn

 -Caveat Lector-

You're right about the USAF enlisted having a hard time getting along. Been
there; done that. NATO is the usual military organization. I was there when
Turkey was under martial law, but we were as happy with the martial law as
the Turks were. It hadn't made life difficult for us, but if a Turk went to
the store to buy bread, no one knew if he would make it back alive. Ecevet
and Demerol were doing their usual bombastic yada, and that general taking
over was the best thing that ever happened. Where we were and while we were
there, the only times Americans had a real problem, it was discovered that
they were trying to date Turkish girls (It's not done that way over there) or
were buying or selling drugs. You're right about them not putting anything
about that in the papers (ours at least). I guess you can always find a
drug dealer (there or here) if you're looking. Very few Turks seemed to use
drugs, but they certainly didn't mind making money off of anyone who did. I
don't know how they felt about hashish. It's been around the middle east and
used in the middle east for centuries. Opium has always been grown there,
but no Turk I ever heard of was stupid enough to use it. It was a cash crop,
sold to foreigners who apparently knew no better. We probably paid more for
our apartment too, but then we had a lot more money. I go along with you
regarding the electricity and heat. It's not like the U.S. We usually had
the electricity, but Turks aren't really sure anyone needs heat I guess. One
thing I've always been grateful for was being taught the method to get really
clean by using one large bucket of water. That should help in Y2K situations
if they every develop. Anyway, I'd love to be where I could have tea in Swan
Park this afternoon. and maybe have guvech and ekmek for dinner. Prudy

As a lower enlisted person in the USAF living any where is hard due to

I was also there at a time when Turkey was under martial law. Americans,
maybe American military were not very well liked to say the least. I paid
five times more than my Turkish neighbors for the same apartment. Several
fire bombings occurred in apartments occupied by Americans, of course this
was never reported by the press to people in the States, nor were the
ambushes. We only got heat for about two hours during the day and another
two hours at night and were lucky to get electricity long enough to wash a
load of clothes. The tea houses on the bay only served tea and a few tasty
snacks, but one block off the bay hash was readily available ... according to
people I worked with, I did not use drugs, but was offered drugs most of the
time I entered one of the '57 Chevy taxicabs. I heard it is very different
there now, I was there nearly twenty years ago. At least I got an assignment
to Hawaii when I left there, but two years in Turkey was not worth three
years in Hawaii.

You must have been around a really corrupt bunch. I spent nine years in
Turkey. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I visited Izmir a number of times, and the
popular drug of choice in the tea houses seemed to be tea. I'm sorry you
were forced to spend so much time in a place you disliked so much. Prudy

[CTRL] Smyrna

1999-09-11 Thread Ric Carter

 -Caveat Lector-

http://www.humboldt1.com/~jerem/

Smyrna

NOTHING FANCY, JUST UNUSUAL INFORMATION WITH UNIQUE COMMENTARY
Gordon Ginn, Editor ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

___

Leftists (Marxists) - Democrat Party & Marxism - What Secret Organization
Has Infiltrated Government?

TRUTH - LITERATURE

TV: The Killing Machine - The Establishment Media - Apologize to House
Managers

End Justifies the Means - Eschatology & Israel - Hollywood & hypnosis

___

Smyrna appreciates the Internet where free expression is available, where we
can escape the hierarchical tyranny of television and the elite ownership of
the establishment's print media. We call them the Unreachable, Untouchable
and Unaccountable.

Although the Internet contains an enormous amount of trash, one can at least
find a wide selection of different views. The mass media do not offer such
variety. They continually mold national opinion by conscious and
subconscious impressions, and then use that contrived mind-set in polls to
further convince the public of a national will. No individual among the
targeted masses knows whether or not the polls are correct, but they
routinely believe they are because their information is obtained largely
from TV. With such a system an entire nation can be led collectively as if
it had a ring in its nose. The Internet circumvents that with diversity. It
may be confusing but at least it offers alternatives to Orwellian Newspeak.

TRUTH

There are three conceptions as to what constitutes truth: Agreement of
thought and reality; eventual verification; and consistency of thought with
itself. (Black's Law Dictionary, Fourth Edition.)

THE ESTABLISHMENT MEDIA

No one has a corner on the market of truth. The mass media do not have a
good track record in the "Department of Truth". Their owners and controllers
generally possess a cultural bent that falls into the liberal-to-left wing
category. For practical purposes we can call them Marxists, although this
term is not precisely suitable for every individual. To illustrate this,
their minions repeatedly refer to the "right wing extremists" as reactionary
and evil. But they seldom mention the left wing. By definition, if a right
wing exists there must be a left wing. Their failure to account for a left
wing exposes their bias, revealing that they constitute the left wing but do
not wish to be known as such.

Left vs. Right

If we were to be taken in by the idea that Marxism is left wing and fascism
is right wing, would there be a center? If so, what would we call it? No one
refers to a center wing; the pseudo- liberals simply use the term
"moderates", which suggests the center. This is misleading. It might be
helpful to visualize the political spectrum as a straight line, with the
left end representing left wingers and the right end the right wingers.
Centrists would, obviously, be at the center of the line. In the liberal
view Marxists would be at the extreme left and fascists at the extreme
right. But since both Marxists and fascists advocate very strong central
governments (tyrannical, if you please), they are similar in nature and must
be allocated the extreme left. The extreme right would be occupied by
anarchists because little or no government would exist. This leaves the
center of the line for those who want government to be bound by the chains
of the Constitution. They want maximum liberty under law. They are not
moderates, centrists nor right wingers. They are Constitutionists.

Both Marxists and fascists are socialists because of their desire for strong
centralized government with lots of "entitlement" programs, with a sort of
popular opinion vote for issues and candidates. They like public opinion
polls and the popular vote, whereas Constitutionists believe in equality
under law. In the recent impeachment proceedings against President Bill
Clinton, it was clearly shown by pseudo-liberals, left wing politicians and
the establishment media that public opinion polls should be the controlling
factor in dealing with Clinton. This is socialist thinking; it comes not
from moderates but from Marxist types. And because they dominate the
establishment media the dumbed-down masses seem to be convinced of the
rightness of the majority. But the media created that ill-fated, so-called
majority. When Smyrna uses the word media, we include entertainment that
originates primarily in Hollywood.

Unfortunately, appealing to the Constitution does not solve the problem.
Why? Because pseudo-liberals and leftists haul out their casuistic big guns
and proceed to totally confuse the uninformed. They argue over the meaning
of words in the Constitution and the intent of the founding fathers. This is
what happened in the impeachment trial of Clinton, and a similar strategy
was implemented in the O.J. Simpson
