Re: [cwelug] Ubuntu Lucid is out
I was surprised -- I tried downloading it from the US around 7am this morning, and had no problems at all (64-bit version). Installed it in a virtual box, the install started at 8:26am, was completed by 8:34am, and I had the Virtual Box Guest Additions installed, and the system fully operational, by 8:37am. NOTE: you no longer need to do any software installations before installing the Guest Additions (used to be, you had to install at least build-essentials first). But by then, it was close to 9:00am, and when I tried to install other software apps, it was slooow (as in, Ubuntu restricted extras started installing at 8:48, finished at 9:27). So I just shut it down for now, and will dink with it more later. Theresa On Fri, 2010-04-30 at 12:13 -0500, Mike B. wrote: I ended up downloading from Canada because the US was so slow. Re: [cwelug] Ubuntu Lucid is out
I just switched back to Charter (after testing whether DSL @ 1.8 Mbps was tolerable) -- tested connection and got over 20Mbps on several of the test servers. And, my upload speed matches or exceeds what was my download speed on DSL. Downloading the ISOs via BitTorrent was definitely tolerable on Charter! I've left my torrent client open to seed for other downloads, to pay for my having gotten such great speed. --Don Ellis On Fri, Apr 30, 2010 at 2:18 PM, Robert Citek robert.ci...@gmail.comwrote: 800 MB / 8 min * (1 min/60sec) = 10 MB/6 s ~ 2 MB/s ~ 20 Mbps.
