Police defend Aboriginal tent embassy raid
Police have defended their actions at the Aboriginal tent embassy in
Canberra this morning where two people were arrested after police were
asked to remove an illegal structure.
Seventy police officers were involved in the pre-dawn raid at the tent
embassy where a six-metre high A-frame was dismantled.
Police say they were there to support heavy machinery and keep the peace.
Some officers wore riot gear but superintendent Charmaine Quade says that
was necessary.
It wasn't until issues had escalated - for example, one of our police
vehicles windows had been smashed, there was threat with spears, there was
also bushes that were set alight and waved in members faces,
superintendent Quade said.
But five members were deployed with gear to try and contain that.
Two people were arrested - one for breaching the peace and another for
possession of a dangerous weapon, a spear.
The latter will appear in court later today.

The Coming Wars for Water.

2003-02-19 Thread professor rat

The explosive growth of three private water utility companies in the last
10 years raises fears that mankind may be losing control of its most vital
resource to a handful of monopolistic corporations. In Europe and North
America, analysts predict that within the next 15 years these companies
will control 65 percent to 75 percent of what are now public waterworks.
The companies have worked closely with the World Bank and other
international financial institutions to gain a foothold on every continent.
They aggressively lobby for legislation and trade laws to force cities to
privatize their water and set the agenda for debate on solutions to the
world's increasing water scarcity. The companies argue they are more
efficient and cheaper than public utilities. Critics say they are predatory
capitalists that ultimately plan to control the world's water resources and
drive up prices even as the gap between rich and poor widens. The fear is
that accountability will vanish, and the world will lose control of its
source of life.

Year of the Rat.
by profrv@(nospam)fuckmicrosoft.com 6:33pm Wed Feb 19 '03 article#42560

Sung to the tune,'Year of the Cat.'
Hundreds and thousands of us disabled are being streamed at the moment like
arrivals at a slaughterhouse.

I have been a disabled pensioner from back when they were called invalid
pensioners.(1982)I did not see a Dr for about 15 years or fill in a
form, then my ute was knocked on its side by a truck and the attending cop
dobbed me in.I was reviewed and failed and then went back to never seeing
anyone or filling out a form...till late last year when I was given 2
months to be reviewed and there was the danger of being sent on to the
newstart chaingangs.
Now we do live in interesting times;remember what happened to me last year?
The FBI had a bitch to the AFP who came to see my shrink without my
knowledge.Supposedly investigating some assassination politics attempts in
the US or something.Anyway the upshot was a charge on hearsay secret
evidence,a conviction, sentence and execution all passed in my absence.
When confronted with a 'management' plan as drawn up by the KGB I
respectfully declined for which I was sworn at,(Bugger off then!)and a week
later two men in white coats came to take me away.Luckily I had a complaint
against the good Dr in the works and I was able to dodge the bullet. Now the
complaint panned out with a Incompetent and/or corrupt O/man in the Health
Comish, yet I got a new Dr out of it and a fresh upgraded diagnosis. This is
the beauty part...the shonky soft cop of a shrink was some kind of latter
day Freud cos he was able to diagnose paranoia from a distance with minimal
contact with the patient. The new diagnosis was quickly confirmed when my
new Dr sent me under threat of committal to be seen by a forensic shrink in
Brunswick.
I told that one I was there under duress, that I had threatened to commit
mayhem once to get out of Royal Park(in the early eighties)and I would
commit mayhem on him and his clinic if he didn't tell the fascist filth to
back the fuck off. This they all did and all this drama is suddenly
amazingly useful to me.Clearly no employer in their right mind would hire
me and I am beyond rehabilitation. So threats for want of a better word are
good,threats work.
(Lets face it they are working in Iraq and APster was designed for people
like Saddam and Shrub)
I plan on another 17 years on the D/Pension before switching to the old
age.Thank you Dr Perera, your a fucking nazi piece of shit but with your
astute diagnosis I will never go hungry again.

Live Free or Die.

2003-02-19 Thread professor rat
Every now and again, the nation’s political spotlight shines upon the
sleepy state of New Hampshire. Our first in the nation primary status
assures that it happens at least every four years, as it did just this past
year when we clocked in with eighty percent voter turnout in order to send
the message that John McCain was best equipped to lead our country, and not
the eminently less qualified man who eventually landed the job.

In recent weeks, reportage of the comments of one of New Hampshire’s state
representatives, one Tom Alciere, has again earned national attention for
the Live Free or Die state. As was predictable, local and national pundits
alike have preferred that Alciere be afforded the latter of these two
options. Ironic, isn’t it? Police chiefs and other government mouthpieces
have gone on record with comments like “He should be thrown in jail for
talking like that.” Well guess what? That kind of rhetoric serves to make
Alciere’s point precisely.

Chicken-hearted reporters within and without New Hampshire have elected to
interpret Alciere out of context with simplistic statements like “Alciere
advocates the killing of police officers,” and “Alciere believes that
shooting police officers is good for society,” rather than actually
examining the role of law enforcement in America in the context of
Alciere’s statements. The Rodney King case, the Amadou Diallo case, the
Avner Luima case and many other similar such instances clearly beg the
question of whether or not there exists within this country a measurable
percentage of maverick cops with personal agendas who are willing to abuse
their authority. These are men armed not only with guns but also with
statutes that permit their incursion into the private lives of ordinary
citizens. The responsibility assigned to police officers is an awesome one,
and one that I believe is impossible to argue that they handle adequately
across the board.

The vast majority of police officers have selected their professions as a
result of an altruistic desire to defend the helpless from society’s many
predators. They seek to employ their intelligence, imagination, and yes,
physical force to ensure that American citizens are able to earn their keep
and keep what they earn. They seek to come to the aid of exploited
children, abused women, and unfairly treated citizens across the age, race,
gender and economic spectrum. But there is without much doubt an element of
the police force that oversteps its authority in order to further either a
personal agenda, or to satisfy a demented thirst for dominion over others.

As far as the media goes, it is so much easier to resort to hyperbole than
actually address the question of police brutality and invasion of privacy
within this country, that who could expect them to respond to Alciere other
than as they have? It makes for better headlines, so that’s the way it gets
covered. The great shame is that the real question is being passed over in
favor of hand wringing about this dangerous man somehow vested with
legislative influence. The vilification of Alciere, a man of truly puny
intellect, whose own hyper-libertarian views are so poorly thought out as
to hardly be worth addressing, is feelgood journalism at its worst. He has
become an icon of the pitfalls of liberalism, a right wing effigiation, a
piñata suspended over blindfolded Republicans’ heads as they wildly swing
the stick. It’s a shame that so inadequate a person as Alciere has become
the fulcrum of so critical a debate.

People who prefer black and white to shades of gray are pleased to have Tom
Alciere to clarify for them the issue of police malfeasance. America’s
great unwashed don’t want to use their heads, they only want to know where
they should hang their hats. In the end run, Alciere is the best thing that
could happen for the American police state he alleges, at whatever level it
actually exists. The sound byte journalism coverage of the Alciere flap has
served to increase the flock of those with blind faith in the judgement of
law enforcement bodies and individual officers.

Here in Portsmouth, the cops on the beat deployed so much pepper spray last
year that I wouldn’t be surprised if France were to declare a cayenne
famine. Were some instances of use warranted? Undoubtedly. Were some
unwarranted? Equally undoubtedly. We haven’t seen much of the old Dale
Daigle thump and dump strategy lately, but given the finer points of the
Truax/Johnson lawsuit, news photos of a sixty-year old woman in a moomoo
crumpled onto the sidewalk rubbing mace from her eyes, and various other
instances of dubious use of authority, it is hard to say that it doesn’t
happen here.

Right-wing doves...

...fly in circles?
Anti-War Conservatives Bash Hawks on Iraq
News Analysis, Rene P. Ciria-Cruz,
Pacific News Service, Feb 12, 2003

Opposition to war in Iraq comes from the Right, too. In fact, writes PNS
contributor Rene P. Ciria-Cruz, unlikely Left-Right alliances and fiery
denunciations of war in paleocon and libertarian media could further
fracture the American Right.

Evil though they may be, Islamic killers are over here because we are over
there, booms the essay, Terror on American soil is the price of American
empire.

Another anti-war liberal waxing rhetorical? No, it's former presidential
hopeful Patrick Buchanan, editor of The American Conservative, bashing
President Bush's Mideast military buildup.

There are indeed anti-war conservatives. Moreover, these
big-government-hating, tax-loathing right-wingers reserve their sharpest
barbs for the neoconservative hawks in the Bush administration. Some even
predict that war in Iraq will widen fissures within the Right and cost the
Republican Party in the voting booth.

Realists like Brent Scowcroft, former national security adviser to the
first President Bush, Lawrence Eagleburger, former secretary of state, and
business leaders who ran A Republican Dissent on Iraq in the Wall Street
Journal this January, drew attention with their warning that a hasty war
could set the entire region on fire. Less well known are objections from
conservatives driven by a strict reading of the Constitution and distaste
for the welfare-warfare state.

Opposition to an unjust war is a conservative tradition, insists Jon B.
Utley, the Robert A. Taft fellow at the Ludwig von Mises Institute in
Auburn, Ala. War of conquest encourages the growth of state power and
burdensome taxation. With war in Iraq, Utley fears that America is forging
a world alliance against itself. We'll all be soft targets.

Utley wants conservatives to join protests organized by left-liberal
coalitions. Although he's uneasy seeing far-out socialists condemning free
markets, theirs is usually the only game in town. Besides, he says, this
is not a Left-Right battle.

The Antiwar.com site in Sunnyvale, Calif., gets 2 million page views a
month, 35 percent from visitors outside the United States, according to
webmaster Eric Garris, a Republican and small 'l' libertarian.

At peace coalition meetings in San Francisco, Antiwar.com staffers get
some static from old-style Stalinists, but otherwise feel welcome, Garris
says. He laments that conservative speakers have yet to be invited to the
big national protests.

Buchanan and columnists like Robert Novak, Charley Reese, Paul Craig
Roberts and Georgie Anne Geyer regularly skewer Bush on Iraq. So do Right
mainstays like Lew Rockwell Jr., Alan Reynolds, Joe Sobran and Justin
Raimondo, whose opinions appear on Townhall.com, Worldnetdaily.com, The
American Conservative, the Chronicles, Americans Against World Empire, and
in publications by the Cato and von Mises institutes.

Saddam Hussein is no Hitler; George Bush is no Winston Churchill. And this
war will definitely not be our finest hour, Reese wrote. Bush, wrote
Geyer, has a religiously inspired grandiosity of character which leads him
to believe he has been called to a religious duty in the Middle East to rid
the world of Saddam Hussein!

Congress has right-wing doves too. In the House, three GOP conservatives
and three centrists voted against giving Bush authorization to use military
force against Iraq. Ron Paul (R-Tex.), known for his dislike of the income
tax, the Federal Reserve and the United Nations, called the undeclared war
unconstitutional, costly and morally unjustifiable.

Warned John Hostettler (R-Ind.), Don't fire unless fired upon. He said
the notion is at least as old as St. Augustine's Just War Thesis, and it
finds agreement with the Minutemen and framers of the Constitution.

The split on Iraq pits traditional conservatives (paleocons) and
libertarians on one side against neoconservatives (neocons) and the
Christian Right on the other. Paleocons and libertarians disagree on moral
issues such as abortion and drug use, but they both oppose large-scale
state social programs and, like the isolationist America First movement of
the 1930s, U.S. intervention abroad. When the Right closed ranks during the
Cold War, the paleocons muted their isolationism but revived it with the
demise of the Soviet bloc.

Neocons are former liberals who moved to the Right after being mugged by
reality, as neocon patriarch Irving Kristol famously quipped. They oppose
affirmative action and Great Society-type programs, but not the entire
legacy of the New Deal. Former Cold Warriors, they want the United States
to boldly wield its clout as the only military superpower in the world.

The neocon-Christian Right alliance rose to power during the Reagan
presidency and now claims hegemony over the conservative movement. It
wields much influence through the Heritage

I am the manager of bills and exchange at the foreign remittance department of this
bank. I am writing you following the impressive information about you through one of
my friends who worked with the Nigerian chamber of commerce before his transfer to the
Nigerian trade mission in Hong Kong. he assured me of your capability and reliability
to champion a business of great magnitude like this one, although i did not tell him
the nature of this business because of the confidentiality it requires. in my
department, we discovered an abandoned sum of usd25million(twenty five million united
states dollars only) in a domiciliary account that belongs to one of our foreign
customers who died in a ghastly plane crash in January 2000 aboard Kenya airways along
with his entire family.

Since we got the information about his death, we have expected his next- of- kin to
come over and claim the money because we cannot release it unless somebody applies for
it as the next of kin or relation to the deceased as indicated in our banking
guidelines. unfortunately we learnt that all his supposed next of kin or relations
died along with him at the plane crash leaving nobody behind for the claim. it is upon
this discovery therefore, that I and one key officials in my department now decided to
make business with you and release the money to you as the next of kin or relation of
the deceased for safe-keeping and subsequent disbursement with you since nobody is
coming for it and we do not want this money to be recycled into the bank's bounded
account as an unclaimed fund.

The request for a foreigner as next of kin in this business is occasioned by the fact
that the customer was a foreigner and a Nigeria cannot stand as next of kin to a
foreigner. we have agreed that 25% of this money will be for you as foreign partner,
thereafter my colleague and I will visit your country for the disbursement according
to the agreed percentages. personally, i would want you to advise me on the best area
of investment because i am considering to invest the greater proportion of my share in
your country. Therefore to enable the immediate transfer of the fund via our
correspondent finance house in aboard to you as arranged, you should first apply to
the bank as the next of kin or business partner of the deceased indicating your
account details wherein the money will be remitted. upon receipt of your reply mail,
i shall send to you the text of the application which you will be required to summit
to the bank for the bank's procedural authentication and immediat!
e remittance of the money to the account you are going to nominate.

As soon as you receive this mail, do contact me at once through my above indicated

more clarification. and i would also like you to indicate your private and
confidential telephone, fax, cellular and e-mail for the effective communication
required.

Be informed that all necessary arrangements towards the successful transfer of the

Just out of curiosity, which of the following would you classify as racist:

Group(s) pushing Black Pride
Group(s) pushing Latino Pride
Group(s) pushing White Pride
Group(s) pushing to Buy Black
Group(s) pushing to Buy White

I submit that all of the above are blatantly, obviously, racist, although I
suspect I'll get a different evaluation from you...

 You're a fucking racist.

If you can't understand why black and latino pride is necessary after
centuries of murderous oppression, the pick up a book.

Things may have been more violent in the 70's, but thats great. Some
people think that revolutions don't happen by sitting behind a
 keyboard.

MEChA is not a gang, they're an important part of helping lots of
young people to be concious of their own heritage.

And I respect the people who are willing to dedicate their lives to
something with meaning a lot more than making more microchips for the
rich. You're right about evolution though, all those women's studies
and black studies programs are helping evolution along, so that
racists like you can have their eyes opened more often.

This is by far the most disgusting thing I've read on this list to
date, and is a huge demonstration of your lilliputian mindedness.

The value of leaders is vastly overrated in American society.

  Same over here in London.

I'm a white, English, middle-class sort of bloke.

  Who are my community leaders?

It goes beyond just the black leaders thing--it's also about black
  pride.

My eye-opening experience was my arrival in college (as Brits would
say, at university) in 1970. UCSB, in beautiful Santa Barbara. There
I found students from diverse backgrounds and cultures, mixing in the
classrooms, the dorms, and the eating halls. Except for the negroes,
who all sat together at one set of tables in whichever eating hall they
were in. There may have been a few stragglers scattered amongst the
other tables, but basically it was de facto, self-selected segregation.

Much was spouted about black pride, and the negroes took to wearing
huge afros with pimp-combs in their hair. They openly insulted
whitey. Essentially, they aligned themselves into a gang.

Many of them switched dorm rooms around, resulting in de facto creation
of segregated dorm halls. White students avoided these ghettoes, for
good reason. (I interviewed in 1971 for a R.A. (resident assistant)
position, to help with living costs, and my negro interviewer only
asked my questions about what CORE was, what SNCC was, etc. My
answers were PC enough, and I was turned down. More and more of the
  R.A.s were negroes by 1973.)

Special departments were created to handle the surge in negro students:
Black Studies was the main one, with Sociology expanded to teach
classes about the oppression and the marginalization of the black
race, blah blah. Swahili was the language they took to meet the
minimal foreign language requirements. There were no negroes in my math
  or physics classes.

They were active, however, in student government. One of them, a woman
named Judy McClellan, used to hop up on the conference tables in the
student government meetings and walk up and down, ranting and screaming
at the non-negro, non-Hispanic students. She once, according to
reporters for the student newspaper who were in the meeting, had her
negro aides stand at the doors so she could tell the council that
nobody is leaving until you pass this (something about funding for
  her programs, etc.).

The next year the President of the student council, one Robert Norris,
flashed a revolver at white students who were opposing one of his
resolutions. When this was reported in the campus newspaper, bails of
the newspapers were thrown into the lagoon by negroes.

I wrote all of this up in a letter which I sent in June of 1973 to the
Regents of the University of California. I included descriptions of
many of the atrocities, including the shakedown of funds from white
students to go to bogus inner city youth programs (including purchase
of a $2500 rare comic book about negroes, a comic book which nobody
could later produce to investigators). I described the La Raza Libre
  Hispanic gang on

investment manager job proposal

2003-02-19 Thread afofo gorma
INVESTMENT MANAGER JOB PROPOSAL.

 Dear Friend,

My name is Afofo Gorma from Zimbabwe, I am 21 years old.
And my mother died last year and my father has been long dead.
Before the death of my mother, she was a farmer and who
acquired wealth through the export of vegetables and other
edible goods. Before the death of my mother she had acquired a
total sum of $9,000,000.00 (Nine million dollars), which she
secretly deposited in a security company abroad(Europe). But
right now as the only child and only son of my late parents it
is now time for my inheritance, but I cannot do this because
of my age and I am presenting an asylum seeker here in the
netherland. And the Netherland government laws does not allow
asylum seekers to have bank accounts. And because of this I
cannot collect my money from the security company for proper
banking. And also because of my age and little experience with
large sum of money like this.

That is why I am now writing you and seeking your assistance.
I want you to represent me in Europe and be my investment
manager and beneficiary of this funds, so that you can help me
make claims and as well invest this money for me. I have
decided to give you 20% out of the total amount
($9,!000.000.00),which would be $1.8M US dollars .While the
rest will be mine, which I plan to use in my educational
pursuit. And also I hope you can also get me out of here by
assisting me in acquiring a visa to join you up after you have
collected the money. I know this might sound strange to you,
but I don't have a choice and I want you to assist me by been
my investment manager and also give me a good education which
i couldn't get since the death of my mother.

If you are ready to assist me, please get back to me through
this email address([EMAIL PROTECTED]),and I will feed
you with all the necessary information's and documents
regarding this proposal. I am hoping to hear from you soon.
Please do not let me down or turn away from me. I am begging
you in Gods name.

Yours Truly,
Afofo Gorma

Bank Manager,
Orient Bank Of Nigeria,
Lagos Branch,
Nigeria.

STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL ,

I am John Okon, Bank Manager of ORIENT BANK OF
NIGERIA, Lagos Branch. I have urgent and very
confidential business proposition for you.On November
1997, an American oil
consultant/contractor with the Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation, Mr.
Barry Kelly made a numbered time (Fixed) deposited for
twelve calendar months, valued at US$25,000,000.00
(Twenty-five Million Dollars) in my branch. Upon
maturity, I sent a routine notification to his
forwarding address but got no reply. After a month, we
sent a reminder and finally we discovered from his
contract employers, Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation that Mr. Barry Kelly died from an
automobile accident. On further investigation, I found
out that he did not leave a WILL and all attempts to
trace his next of kin were fruitless.
I therefore made further investigation and discovered
that Mr. Barry Kelly did not declare any next of kin
in all his official documents, including his Bank
Deposit paperwork. This sum of US$25,000,000.00 is
still sitting in the Bank and the interest is being
rolled over with the principal sum at the end of each
year. No one will come forward to claim it. According
to the Nigerian Law, at the expiration of 5 (five)
years, the money will revert to the ownership of the
Nigerian Government if nobody applies to claim
the funds.
Consequently, my proposal is that I will like you as a
foreigner to stand in as the next of kin to Mr. Barry
Kelly so that the fruits of this old man´s labor will
not get into the hands of some corrupt officials. This
is simple, I will like you to provide me immediately
with your full names, address and phone and fax
numbers so that the attorney will prepare the
 necessary documents and affidavits,
which will put you in place as the next of kin. We
shall employ the services of two attorneys for
drafting and notarization of the WILL and obtain the
necessary documents

probate/administration in your favor the transfer. A
bank account in any part of the world, which you
provide, will then facilitate the transfer of this
money to you as the beneficiary/next of kin. The money
will be paid into your account for us to share in the
ratio of 60% for me and 40% for you.
There is no risk at all as all the paperwork for this
transaction will be done by the attorney and my
position as the Branch Manager guarantees the
successful execution of this transaction. If you are
interested, please reply immediately via the private
email address below.
Upon your response, I shall then
provide you with more details and relevant documents
that will help you understand. Please observe utmost
confidentiality, and rest assured that this
transaction would be most profitable for both of us
because I shall require your assistance to invest
my share in your country.
Awaiting your urgent reply .
Thanks and regards
John Okon.

Steve Schear wrote on February 19, 2003 at 12:23:

(snipped]

As was the regimen then, the class would line up before and after
activities to check attendance, then we would shower. To help the
instructor the lineup order was fixed. It so happened that the student
behind me was one of those being bussed in. I had not taken much notice of
him until the day he decided that my back looked to be good target for his
fist. His method was to punch me about every 5 seconds like clock
 work.

Any idea of why the fucker started up with the punching?

It started at the first line up and continued to just before
showers. (I know some of my fellow students saw him hitting me but they
pretended not to and said anything.)

His locker was almost opposite of mine and as the class prepared to shower
he continued his ritualistic abuse. I waited until most of the others were
gone and just as he was about to land a blow I quickly turned, blocked his
punch, grabbed and twisted his arm to lock it and drew him into a side kick
to his throat. His trachea partly collapsed and he fell to the floor
choking. I calmly continued undressing and went to the shower. When I
came back some students we standing around him and an instructor was giving
him mouth to mouth. I heard he was taken to the hospital. No one asked me
about him, I never saw him again and none of the students said a word.

Excellent! A shame he wasn't killed, as he deserved to be.

Several days later three of his friends tried to jump me between classes in

Greens dump anti-terror kits on Howard's doorstep
Hundreds of anti-terrorism kits have been dumped at the gates of Prime
Minister John Howard's residence in Sydney with the Greens trying to return
to sender.
Mr Howard was not home at Kirribilli but Greens Senator Kerry Nettle tried
regardless to deliver the kits which she regards as scaremongering and a
waste of $15 million.
Senator Nettle believes thousands of Australians have been thwarted by
Australia Post in their attempts to return the kits.
Australia Post officials say return to sender does not apply in this case
because the kits are inappropriately addressed.
Senator Nettle has collected hundreds of kits that have been sent to the
Greens, all with colourful slogans.
They are now lying at the gate of Kirribili House.

Prime Minister John Howard's criticism of peace protesters has been
condemned by one of the organisers of Sunday's record march through the
streets of Sydney.

Convenor of the Walk Against the War coalition Hannah Middleton says Mr
Howard has adopted a desperate and arrogant position..

We, the people, have spoken, Ms Middleton said.

With those huge marches, with the polls that are about, he must know that
he no longer speaks for us, and so the only way he can manage to maintain
this facade that he knows best for us and for Iraq and for the world, is to
slander the peace people of this country.

Meanwhile, Greens Senator Kerry Nettle says the anti-war effort is not
about giving comfort to the Iraqi regime.
Mr Howard said the peace demonstrations are dividing world opinon making it
harder to find a peaceful way of disarming Iraq.
But Senator Nettle says that is the talk of a rattled Prime Minister.
She says the protesters support neither Mr Howard nor the Iraqi leader.
As may be expected Saddam Hussein is using the voices of peace around the
world to try to support his campaign, Senator Nettle said.
That is something you could anticipate that he would do and again, many of
those people who took part in those rallies are angry to see their call for
peace, their support for Iraqi civilians being used in that way by Saddam
Hussein.
Senator Nettle today dumped hundreds of anti-terrorism kits at the gates of
the Prime Minister's residence in Sydney in an attempt to return to sender.

ARLINGTON, VA – January 27 2003: Metal Storm Limited (ASX Code: MST and
NASDAQ ticker symbol: MTSX), announced today that it has signed a teaming
agreement with VISTA Controls, Inc., a Curtiss-Wright company (NYSE: CW,
CW.B), for research, development, construction and demonstration of the
Metal Storm Repeatable Access Denial System (RADS).

Under this agreement, a Metal Storm stacked round RADS system will be
combined with VISTA’s stabilised weapons platform, acquisition sensor,
integrating software and fully integrated user console. Metal Storm and
VISTA will conduct system performance studies and functional capability
assessments of this weapon system to produce a fully integrated RADS
demonstrator.

The RADS system is intended to be used for very close-in defence and can be
utilised against small, lethal, rapidly moving hostile threats, either on
land or at sea. It also incorporates Metal Storm’s new generation firing
system, announced in a release by the company on 23 September 2002, which
substantially reduces the complexity of the ballistic component of the weapon.

Mike O’Dwyer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Metal Storm said,
“This agreement is an excellent example of how our company is now
attracting prominent and highly capable US defence companies to join with
us in advancing our proprietary electronic ballistic technology. VISTA
Controls is a leader in designing and producing world class fire control
sub-systems and related software, as evidenced by their product placement
into key defence programs such as the Abrams main battle tank, the Bradley
fighting vehicle, Global Hawk and the Space Shuttle upgrade program. We
believe that combining our RADS technology, across a range or combination
of calibres, with VISTA’s systems will provide Metal Storm with an enhanced
performance capability. Our goal in 2003 is to demonstrate this fully
integrated weapon system to defence agencies with a view to achieving
production contracts.”

Mr. Darwin Beckel, President of VISTA Controls added, “We are very pleased
to be teamed with Metal Storm in taking the unique capability of their new
and versatile RADS system to the next level of development. Our company
continually looks for new technologies that, when integrated into a network
centric architecture, provide a powerful combination of firepower and
information. We know of many customers that will be pleased to witness the
demonstration we will be offering with the RADS product.”

Exclusive: By Neil Mackay,
Home Affairs Editor

IN the murky, brutal world of the intelligence war in Northern Ireland
there is one rule the British military never breaks: if one of its agents
inside the IRA is unmasked then the army will save their life at all
costs.
But it seems this was a rule Brigadier Gordon Kerr was not inclined to
obey. Kerr, an Aberdonian who began his military career as an officer in
the Gordon Highlanders, is today one of the most powerful men in British
military intelligence. But according to soldiers who served under him,
Kerr is also a man who sacrificed the lives of British agents working
inside the IRA.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Kerr was commanding officer of the
Force Research Unit (FRU) -- a top-secret arm of the British army's
Intelligence Corps, which ran some of the most highly-placed agents in
the IRA and loyalist paramilitary groups.
Investigations by the Sunday Herald have already uncovered how Kerr and
the FRU used some agents as 'proxy assassins' for the British state.
Military handlers would pass to agents inside loyalist paramilitary
organisations documents -- such as photographs and address details -- on
Sinn Fein activists, republican sympathisers, IRA men and sometimes just
innocent Catholics. The agents would then give these details to loyalist
gunmen who would use them to plan assassinations. At least 14 people died
as a result including the Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane, who represented
a number of people accused of IRA crimes.
For more than a decade, Sir John Stevens, the Metropolitan Police
Commissioner, has investigated alleged collusion between Kerr's FRU and
loyalist paramilitaries. On Thursday, Stevens confirmed his team was
preparing to send papers on Kerr -- now the British military attachŽ in
Beijing -- to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Kerr has been
questioned by Stevens, and 20 other files on other members of the
security forces are also to be sent to the DPP before the end of March.
Stevens's inquiries are still ongoing.
With Kerr facing possible criminal charges for collusion, former FRU
officers who once served under him have made new revelations about their
commanding officer -- a man once referred to as the 'archetypal spy'.
These intelligence officers say Kerr allowed FRU agents -- informers
within the IRA who were loyal to Britain -- to die.
The story that follows shows a staggering disregard for human life. It
concerns the deaths of four people: Margaret Perry, a civilian Catholic;
her lover Gregory Burns, who worked inside the IRA for the British, and
his friends Aidan Starrs and Johnny Dignam -- also agents and informers
for the FRU. The Sunday Herald has spoken to three former FRU officers
who say these four would still be alive today if it wasn't for Kerr.

It begins with the recruitment of Gregory Burns, a 34-year-old Catholic
from Lurgan, by the FRU. Burns, who was identified for recruitment when
he applied to join the army, happily agreed to work for the FRU as an
agent gathering information on IRA activities in Co Armagh. Two of his
friends, Aidan Starrs and Johnny Dignam, were recruited along with him.

Burns quickly gained the trust of those in the upper echelons of the
republican movement. He became an assistant to Owen Carron, a former
republican MP, who in 1981 worked as the election agent for Bobby Sands,
the IRA hunger striker. Burns's links to the Provos ran deep. His brother
Sean had been killed by a special RUC team, along with two other members
of an IRA active service unit, in 1982.
In the late 1980s, Burns's contact with the IRA was at an all time high.
Burns, Starrs and Dignam were now well-placed inside the Provos, securing
their positions as key FRU informers. But there was a problem: Burns was
something of a 'ladies' man'. Though he had a long-term relationship, he
had also secretly begun an affair with a 26-year-old called Margaret
Perry, whose family had republican connections. 'Burns didn't keep his
mouth shut and she found out he was working for British intelligence,'
one FRU officer said. 'He tried to convince her he was a double-agent the
IRA had planted within the army -- but she didn't buy it.'
Just prior to Kerr stepping down as head of the FRU in late 1990, one FRU
officers recalls: 'Burns contacted us and told us the game was up. He
said he'd been compromised and he, Starrs and Dignam wanted out.' The
three expected the FRU to set up a resettlement package -- a new home, a
new identity, a new job and a sizeable pay-off. 'Burns's handlers went to
Kerr and said they needed to get the three of them out quickly,' one of
the FRU officers added. 'Resettling agents is part of the deal. Who on
earth would agree to work as an agent for the Brits inside the IRA if
they knew that if they were rumbled we'd abandon them and let them die?

'But Kerr wasn't having any of it. He said it was all Burns's own fault
and he should get out of the mess himself. He said he should silence
Perry.

You Asked for It!
The Privilege of Being Regulated
by Russell Madden
At last! The veil parts. The beam falls from my eye. The fog clears.

How could I have been so blind? Man-oh-man-oh-man, I have wasted my life,
plugging along, trying to make money and eke out a modest living by
offering my meager services to various employers. All those years toiling
in menial jobs. All that aggravation in dealing with surly students. All
that frustration in attempting to interest uncaring publishers in my books
and short stories.

What a waste of valuable time and energy when I could have been pulling in
the dough so much more easily.

The wonderful lads in Washington, D. C., have shown the way, illuminating
the path for slow-to-catch-on types such as I. Here and all, I thought the
best way to earn dollars was to exchange a desired service or product
produced by yours truly for the voluntarily surrendered money of those
desirous of my talents and effort.

A recent story from The Wall Street Journal, however, has provided me the
key to unlimited wealth. In between all their dedicated and wondrous
efforts to oust Saddam Hussein and to free the long-suffering Iraqi people
from their dirty ol' homes and lives, the ingenious worker-bees in the
current presidential administration have creatively devised a method to
increase their budgets.

(Oooo! I tingle all over pondering the titillating possibilities inherent
in the principle these lads and lasses have uncovered.)

The fun folks at such what-would-we-do-without-them organizations as the
Department of Agriculture (the clever people who bring us all higher food
prices to subsidize the lifestyles of a small group of the richest
farmers), the Federal Communication Commission (the farsighted dreamers who
want to outlaw analog television reception in a few years and whose
policies have slowed broadband and retarded the tech sector), and the Food
and Drug Administration (the compassionate souls who have helped end
prematurely the lives of millions of Americans by delaying approval of
drugs and medical devices, and who contributed to the skyrocketing costs of
the drugs they do approve by endless paperwork and delays), these
chuckle-chums and others have been informed by the prez's people to charge
the people they regulate for the privilege of being regulated.

Brilliant! Delightful! Bodacious!

More precisely, these modern magicians are supposed to increase the user
fees they already collect from various businesses. Those evil corporations
paid only $170 billion in such fees last year. By golly, the prez has our
best interests at heart and wants these rich SOB's to fork over another two
billion or so this year.

Consider the genius of this plan:

1. Pass a bunch of laws and regulations that control what various
businesses may or may not do, i.e., force them to do what you want them to do.

2. Set yourself up as the body charged with ensuring that those involuntary
actions are done according to your own specifications.

3. Claim you are forcing these companies to adhere to standards (set by
you) in order to protect the public from the nasty things the businesses
would do or not do if you weren't there to keep an eagle eye on them.

4. Make the companies pay user fees because they use your time and
resources when you force them to do what you want.

5. Force the companies to cough up even more money later so you can
increase your own salary and staff.

Wow. I take off my hat to the pushers of this cunning and masterful scam.

Maybe I can force college-age students to go to college because it would be
good for them to learn more. Then I'll make them take my classes. Next,
I'll charge them for the privilege of using my services. Plus, I'll make it
illegal for any of the students not to take my classes and forbid anyone
from dropping the classes. Then, when I decide I need more money, I'll
raise their user fees so I can finally buy that plasma-screen television
I've coveted.

Better yet, they don't actually have to benefit from my teaching. Indeed,
if they get more educationally confused and end up worse off than they were
before, I'll use their failure as an excuse to demand even more money from
them!

What a wonderful spiral: miss a lot of classes; grade only cursorily;
ignore the outcomes; get paid by the students for forcing them to do what I
tell them to do. Do it all again.

And guess what! No more idiotic student evaluations. If they don't like
what I force them to do, who cares? I'll fine them even more or maybe just
throw them in jail.

Sweet!

Hmm...

'Course, now that I think on this a mite, I'm beginning to wonder how
original this scheme truly is.

After all, I am forced to pay for the privilege of adhering to gun
control laws — such as purchase permits — I don't want but that are
supposed to keep me safe.

I am forced to pay — for my own good — for a State-mandated

Homeland defense drives citizens to Web

By Stefanie Olsen
Staff Writer, CNET News.com

The Bush administration unveiled Ready.gov on Wednesday as a touchstone for
a massive public-awareness campaign to prepare Americans for a potential
terrorist attack.
The Department of Homeland Defense kicked off a $100 million campaign in
the form of print, radio, direct mail and outdoor advertisements that will
feature the Web site. The site, whose motto is Don't be afraid. Be ready,
offers information, tutorials and checklists on how to protect oneself in
the event of biological, chemical or nuclear threats.

The campaign was launched in response to the Department of Homeland
Security's growing, perceived threat of terrorism in the United States. In
the last two weeks, the department put the nation on high alert against
potential warfare for the second time since the suicide bombings of Sept.
11, driving many people to hardware stores to buy duct tape and water.

While this department and organizations around the country work hard every
day to prevent terrorist attacks and strengthen our national protection,
individual citizens can help too, Tom Ridge, U.S. Department of Homeland
Security secretary, said in a statement. He introduced the campaign and Web
site Wednesday morning at the Cincinnati American Red Cross.

Security is also a big issue in operating the Web site. Ruder Finn
Interactive, which developed the site in partnership with the Advertising
Council, teamed up with security firm International Networking Services
(INS) to ensure that the site would be safe against potential hackers or a
cyberterrorism attack. INS has a team overseeing the site's security at all
times, according to Steve Bergman, program manager for INS. He said it was
built using National Security Alliance guidelines.

Producers for the site said they built it with the knowledge that many
people flock to the Web in a crisis. They evaluated traffic levels for some
of the highest profile sites during the Sept. 11 attacks and the recent
NASA flight explosion, including CNN.com and NASA.org, to model the site's
performance capabilities.

It was designed to perform well at the highest expectation of Web sites,
said Brad McCormick, product manager at Ruder Finn. He said the site was
build in about three months.

The organizations plan to update the site in coming months with local
information such as evacuation plans in the top U.S. cities in the case of
an attack. They also plan to create versions of it in other languages
including Arabic. As part of the campaign, the U.S. Postal Service will
send out brochures to every American. All of the ads will direct people to
call 1-800-BE-READY to access a free brochure or visit the Web site.

X-box on Linux.

2003-02-19 Thread professor rat
http://www.premodded.com/

This month our Workshop section introduces the LinuXbox. APC shows you how
to boost the power of your Xbox by installing Linux on it to play games,
DVDs, DivXmovies or serve files.
The buzz around Linux is reminiscent of the stirrings surrounding the
Internet before the dot com crash. In fact, many of the concepts that
fascinated people about the Net also applied to the operating system: both
began as academic projects, neither were owned by a specific organisation,
and they were largely free for anyone to access and contribute to.
These factors meant that activity snowballed, building up from simple
projects into a global phenomenon with great promise. And in both cases, it
was also predicted that they'd quietly go away in favour of proprietary
alternatives once the hype died down.
There's no arguing that some of the heat has gone out of the Linux market.
Companies that had jumped onto the bandwagon, like Caldera and Corel,
stepped away from the platform. Others, such as Linux desktop company
Eazel, disappeared entirely.
But Linux, like the Internet, isn't about to go away any time soon. And the
serious players in the Linux industry are doing quite well.
Red Hat is profitable and still expanding; IBM has recouped its billion
dollars worth of Linux investment sooner than expected, and research firm
IDC estimates that spending on Linux will increase from $80 million in 2001
to $280 million by 2006. The platform and its open source philosophy is no
longer a left-of-field concept to the business world. Linux has become
part, and in some cases the whole, of the IT infrastructure of many
Australian businesses, earning a reputation for providing inexpensive and
reliable file and print, email, Web and network infrastructure services.
More recently, with IT budgets feeling the strain of Microsoft's expensive
new licensing model, businesses are looking closely at Linux. IDC reports
that some 15% of Microsoft's customers are examining alternative
technologies such as Linux following the introduction of Microsoft's
Licensing 6 scheme.
Open source licensing of the OS and many applications delivers significant
cost savings, and allows staff to replicate their work environment on their
home machines for free. It also avoids licence audits and the cost of staff
borrowing expensive software.
But Linux is also getting attention in its own right. Stuart Guthrie, from
NSW systems integrator Eureka IT, says that his customers are seriously
looking at Linux -- not just trying to arm-bend Microsoft [into a better
licensing deal].
While best known as a back office platform, for Linux the desktop is now
the most promising frontier as well as being its biggest challenge. Only a
short while ago, a Linux desktop looked like a mishmash of inconsistent
applications which performed every task under the sun except what most
desktop users need: a Web browser capable of displaying most Web pages; a
good email client and contact manager; and an office suite which can work
reliably with Microsoft Office files. That situation changed once
mainstream Linux distributions began to direct their efforts towards
Microsoft's heartland.
In common with many competitors, Linux market leader Red Hat once focused
purely on servers. However, with its 8.0 release, the company aimed to
deliver a polished, consistent desktop that anyone could use (whether it
succeeded is another question -- see our Workshop article entitled: You
can leave your Hat on, page 136).
The United Linux consortium (a group consisting of Caldera, SuSE,
Turbolinux and Conectiva) has also announced an upcoming release with a
clear desktop focus.
Switchers and stayers
Although Linux isn't yet up to the ease of use of Windows, it's getting
there. Furthermore, as a desktop platform Linux offers a variety of
advantages over Windows, particularly in terms of installation and
maintenance. The tight set of default permissions is appreciated by
administrators seeking locked down, tamper-proof desktops, which eases the
maintenance burden and reduces the effects of malicious users and software.
Another frequently cited business benefit of Linux is the ability to easily
produce a standardised roaming user environment. Kim Perkins, Information
Systems Manager at Melbourne private school Strathcona Baptist Girls'
College, explains that by using LDAP for authentication and the Network
File System (NFS) to share users' home directories, staff and students can
sit down on any machine and get their own environment, which they can
customise without harming the underlying OS. Users have remarked that it's
like having their own machine, says Perkins.
While his team looked at doing the same for its Windows desktops using
profiles and the policy editor, the process was much more difficult and
would have taken more time.
Strathcona has converted 90 student and staff desktops -- half of its total
fleet -- to Linux, and

Does London mayor's 'ring of steel' breach UK Data Act?
By John Lettice
Posted: 19/02/2003 at 15:16 GMT

London mayor Ken Livingstone's claims earlier this week that the capital's
new charge zone cameras had a security aspect raised numerous
questionmarks, not least of them being the one over Transport for London's
registration under the Data Protection Act. Livingstone in the past few
days has performed something of a somersault, to the extent that he now
thinks the terrorist-stopping powers of the zone cameras are so great that
they should and would be retained even if the original road-charging
purpose turned out to be a complete failure.

It was an intriguing revelation because - presuming Ken isn't just making
it up as he goes along - it means that a central London security monitoring
zone has been introduced not by the police, not by the government, but by a
local authority, without any prior consultation at all. And perhaps not
even by a local authority - it is unclear to us whether any security
purpose has been discussed at the Greater London Authority itself. The
consultation that went out in the run-up to the scheme's adoption meanwhile
makes no mention of security zones, focussing entirely on the relief of
traffic congestion and the improvement of London's transportation systems.

Local authorities in the UK do of course introduce CCTV security systems
without widespread 'do you want a ring of steel' consultation, but there is
just the teensiest of differences here. Purpose is important as far as the
Data Protection Act is concerned, schemes specifically designed as CCTV
security (or indeed other) systems will have clearly defined and documented
purposes, and at least ought to comply with the Data Protection
Commissioner's CCTV guidelines, which are available here.

Traffic management and monitoring systems however are not necessarily CCTV
surveillance systems, and are frequently designed not to function in this
way - if they are simply snapping number plates, then they're not
identifying individuals. So the UK's speed cameras snap the rear of the
car, which is only going to get somebody's face in rather esoteric
circumstances, and the congestion charge scheme itself is designed to snap
number plates, not people.

So, when Ken talks merrily of cameras being panned, zoomed and being used
to identify drivers, we have clear purpose-drift and the probable need for
whole new categories of registration for TfL under the data protection act.

TfL's own data protection registration is substantial, and the paranoid
might care to be worried about how many of the individual categories are
tagged Transfer: Worldwide. Purpose 7 covers CCTV and traffic management
(and makes chilling reading in its own right - Political opinions?
Religious beliefs? Sexual life? On a bus?) but it's Purpose 28 that
concerns us here.

Note that among the data subjects listed are those buying permits,
offenders and suspected offenders, those incurring penalty charges and
evaders. But there is no reference to the cameras being used to identify
individuals, and plenty of individuals not covered (car passengers,
pedestrians, cyclists) could be identified by them. Note also: Images of
vehicles entering the charging zone; registration marks of these vehicles
will be matched with keeper details held by the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle
Licensing Agency) if a valid charge payment, exemption or discount is not
held, so that a penalty charge notice may be issued.

That's pretty clear, isn't it? Identification of the vehicle owner will
take place in the event of suspected evasion, and will be done via DVLA
records. It doesn't say anything about more general vehicle identification
or zooming in on faces, so if it's doing that TfL is in breach of the 1998
Data Protection Act. If it is doing that, incidentally, it should also have
a code of conduct governing how and when it should be done. And we suspect
demoing the zooming in on faces to the mayor might at the very least be
deemed not to be good practice.

Bodies listed for disclosure are sufficiently wide to cover all of the
security services, but again the lack of a stated security purpose and of a
reference to direct identification via the cameras means Ken's claims
aren't covered. As an aside, if you're one of the ones who thought foreign
plates would be a good gag, you'll see you're probably going to be
disappointed. We know we were.

Distribution for both the CCTV and the congestion charge registrations is
listed as being worldwide, but this is likely to be simply because of the
companies involved in the implementation and management of the systems,
rather than because its all being sent over to the CIA. It would however be
nice to know what, why and to whom.

But you could try to find out. There's a FAQ on obtaining information on

Xbox Linux group seeks Microsoft seal
By David Becker
Staff Writer, CNET News.com
February 19, 2003, 12:01 PM PT

The group of programmers working to run Linux on Microsoft's Xbox video
game console is seeking the software giant's seal of approval.
In an open letter sent to Microsoft, the organizers of the Xbox Linux
Project requested that the software giant sign its Xbox version of the
open-source operating sytem.
Microsoft's electronic signature would allow the software to run on an
unmodified Xbox. Currently, an Xbox must be outfitted with a mod chip--a
gray-market add-on that overrides security features in the console--to run
Linux or any other unapproved software. Microsoft has pursued a variety of
legal and technical means to thwart mod chips, on the grounds that the
devices aid software piracy.
We would strongly prefer that our users did not have this extra complex
step of opening their Xbox and fitting extra circuitry before they can run
Linux or other programs, the letter says.
Because of Microsoft's deliberate design choices in terms of restricting
the software that may run on an unmodified Xbox to 'Microsoft approved
only,' coming to ask Microsoft, and presumably paying Microsoft, is
currently the only way we can get our port of the GNU/Linux OS to
interoperate with an unmodified box, the letter says. Unkind people might
characterize this as a second deliberate monopoly created by Microsoft even
as they were being found guilty of creating an illegal monopoly in
operating systems software.
A Microsoft representative said that the security features and specialized
operating system used in the Xbox were necessary to protect against
software piracy. It's designed the way it is to protect the (intellectual
property) of our game developers and our partners, the representative said.
Hackers have been tinkering with the Xbox since the day it went on the
market, inspired by the PC-based design of the console, which uses a
standard Intel Pentium processor and other common PC components.
Programmers have developed media players, software emulators and other
unauthorized programs for the console, along with several versions of Linux
and affiliated open-source software.
Michael Robertson, founder of Linux company Lindows, is sponsoring a
$200,000 contest to bring Linux to the console. The first half of the
contest has already been won, but the second part of the challenge--running
Linux on an unmodified Xbox--is still up for grabs.
The Xbox Linux Project letter notes that Microsoft could score some extra
cash by signing the group's software. You may not be aware that Project B
of the Xbox Linux prize includes up to $100,000 for a person or company
which allows Xbox Linux to boot on an unmodded box, the letter says.
Microsoft will be eligible to apply for an award under this scheme if they
approve Xbox Linux as a normal Xbox program.
British programmer Andy Green, one of the organizers of the Xbox Linux
Project, said the letter is a sincere attempt to sway Microsoft.
The letter is a genuine request for Microsoft to consider allowing Xbox
Linux to run on the Xbox without discriminatory extra effort needed on the
part of the user, he said in an e-mail interview.
We decided to actually ask Microsoft because up until now we have had zero
contact with them, despite trying to reach out once before, as we describe
in the letter, Green said. We can see from feedback that it is being
widely seen as a brave attempt at a lost cause, but we're not so sure.
Nobody knows for sure what Microsoft's response to us and our concept of a
Microsoft-approved Linux will be until we ask and get a reply.
Green said he and other project participants hope Microsoft may become a
little more obliging in light of recent antitrust actions.
Xbox Linux's situation is plenty more discriminated against than Netscape
with their Navigator browser and Sun's Java, he said. These guys could at
least run their stuff on the PCs without us having to reverse-engineer
their cryptographic locks and the user having to fit new equipment to it.

Better tax evasion through bankruptcy.

2003-02-19 Thread professor rat
Sydney barrister Stephen Archer could not afford to pay his tax debt of
$3.1 million but he could still manage to buy $14,000 worth of wine in a
year and give his wife $1.2million, a Mercedes-Benz and holidays with their
children.

Mr Archer, 55, bankrupted three times since 1991, was on the other side of
the bar table yesterday as he was grilled for three hours in the Federal
Court on why his wife owns everything, and how he managed to live the good
life while escaping his tax obligations.

The trustees were seeking to recover his latest debt of $765,000 owed to
creditors.

The biggest creditor, the Deputy Commissioner of Taxation, only recovered
2.6cents in the dollar from Mr Archer's previous two bankruptcies, which
totalled $3.1million, the trustee, Max Donnelly, said outside court.

During some volatile exchanges yesterday, Mr Archer, who represented
himself from the witness box, said it was disgraceful to suggest his
actions were designed to put him out of reach of the taxman. He did,
however, admit that paying tax was a last priority.
He said by the time he paid his monthly wine account, amounting to as much
as $5364, his chamber fees, and maintenance to his wife to whom he has
been married for 30 years, there was not a cent left for income tax.

Mr Archer, whose annual income in 1989 was $1.4million, became the first
barrister to lose his practising certificate following new legislation
prompted by the Herald's exposure of several barristers who had been
exploiting the system.

Mr Archer - famous for defending Laurie Connell on fraud charges in the
early 1990s - handed over all his worldly goods to his wife in March 1988,
a separation agreement under the Family Law Act in which he had to pay her
$5500 a month.

Counsel for the trustee, Brian Skinner, suggested the amounts were much
higher than that, up to $473,000 in 1989, but Mr Archer labelled the claim
ridiculous.

The couple's properties in Perth and their Paddington terrace, valued at
$1.4million (and since sold), were in his wife's name.

Having quit the profession after being exposed, Mr Archer lives in Nelson
Bay with his wife, and said yesterday he was entirely dependent on my
wife's support.

If I need money for a train fare to come to Sydney my wife gives me the
money, he said.

He disagreed her money was his. He said he paid his wife the monthly
maintenance in preference to the Tax Office because he felt it was a legal
obligation he had entered into, unlike the obligation to pay the Tax Office.

He rejected that he put his tax obligations to the bottom of the pile,
although it was noted he spent $14,000 on wine between 1999 and 2000.

During an outburst at the end of his examination Mr Archer said he strongly
objected to the questioning, labelling it a media stunt.

He said as a result of the Herald's article a lot of people's positions
have been destroyed, including mine. He said the Tax Office was the loser
because he no longer earned an income and therefore did not pay tax.

It's failed because I've simply disappeared from the Tax Office records.
They drove me out of my legal position ... as a result they have suffered
the consequences - one less taxpayer. said Mr Archer, who was convicted 22
times for not filing a return.

When it was suggested outside court that he did not pay his taxes, Mr
Archer responded: I've paid thousands.

The recent reprimand delivered to the Labor leadership over the outspoken comments of some MPs about President George Bush and US policy towards Iraq, has brought to light an intriguing aspect of US diplomacy in Australia.
Since the Second World War, US embassies have included a special kind of diplomat, the labour attache. The labour attache, like the defence attache and cultural attache, promotes US interests in countries where the trade union movement and labour parties are strong.
These have effectively been the Quiet Americans, holding private powwows with MPs and union leaders, handing out trips to the US and reporting all their observations to the State Department.
During the Cold War, they worked covertly with anti-communist forces in actions that constitute interference in Australia's internal political life. As well, there are good reasons to believe that labour attaches may have, in the past, been closely linked with US intelligence agencies.
Much of the work of labour attaches is now visible in recently released American archives obtained by this writer. They offer a fascinating insight into internal Labor politics, as well as the machinations of US diplomats.
A key figure in these documents is Bob Hawke, originally an ACTU advocate, then ACTU president and later prime minister. Hawke was of interest to labour attaches, such as Bob Walkinshaw and Emil Lindahl, because they closely watched the political struggle within the ACTU.
By the mid to late-1960s they were aware that the existing president, Albert Monk, was ill and a political struggle over his succession had broken out. Bob Hawke was one of a number of contenders for Monk's job and a bitter battle ensued over it. Hawke, said a US official in 1966, is regarded as brilliant and by some people even as a possible future prime minister of Australia. One US official, Doyle Martin, added that Hawke personally cultivates trade union leaders and is a competent performer at the saloon, as well as the forensic, bar.
Two of their most sympathetic sources for interpreting the ACTU were anti-communist forces, such as B.A. Santamaria's National Civic Council, and Tom Doherty of the right-wing Australian Workers Union. At one stage, Bob Walkinshaw, the labour attache, sent the State Department copies of the NCC's analysis of the Australian communist movement, and commented that Santamaria is generally known as an authority on communism and has been a reliable source of information to the reporting officer on this question.
He added: Although it can be presumed that Santamaria would obviously be somewhat prejudiced, the contents of this pamphlet can be taken as reflecting a fairly accurate and objective analysis.
Such comments indicate just how wildly distorted was the vision through American eyes.
Several of the US labour attaches cultivated Hawke and had many long private conversations with him, all of which were written up and relayed to the State Department, and are now available for public scrutiny. An intriguing picture emerges of the young Hawke in his late 30s dealing with US diplomats. The labour attaches were unnerved by his militant aspirations and his association with communists. But on the other hand, they began to see that he was a charismatic and ambitious man with aspirations beyond the union movement.
In 1969 the dynamic Hawke moved to take the leadership of the ACTU from its plodding officers. The labour attache, Emil Lindahl, watched these developments carefully and noted that while he was brilliant and effective, his enemies feel he is subject to flights of irresponsibility, including drunkenness, playing around with women, and brawling.
After intimately discussing the contest between Hawke and his rival, the ACTU president Harold Souter, the report concluded: Both Souter and Hawke can be considered friends of the US.
The reason for this can be seen in Hawke's own astute judgement of the labour attaches. In December 1969, Lindahl attended a church meeting where Hawke spoke passionately about the holocaust in Vietnam. Afterwards, Lindahl reported, Hawke came and sat with him, and asked, Did I hit you too hard on Vietnam? Lindahl replied, I know you can hit harder. After a beer and more discussion together, Lindahl reported: (Hawke) puffed on his newly acquired cigar with a great deal of self-satisfaction. This very confident young man appears to be the master of his own destiny.
Lindahl was puzzled by Hawke's public vehemence on Vietnam and his private warmth. He had found this also when

Dan Gillmor: Disk-drive capacity continues to grow
By Dan Gillmor
Mercury News Technology Columnist
The cost of disk-drive capacity has dropped below a buck a gigabyte. The
news was anticlimactic in a sense, because it was predictable in a time of
constant technological progress.

It was one of those milestones that still means something -- not just a
testament to the storage industry's achievements, but also a reminder of
how the seemingly most prosaic of information technologies may have turned
out to be the most disruptive.

Like others of my generation, I can remember my first computer with a hard
disk, which I bought in the mid-1980s after years of personal computing
with floppy disks and, before that, cassette storage. I wondered how I'd
ever fill the 10 megabytes on the IBM PC, given that an entire novel's
worth of text takes up less than 1 megabyte, or 1/60,000 of the space on
today's typical 60-gigabyte hard drive.

I soon found out. In a Digital Age corollary to Parkinson's Law, data
expanded to fit the available space.

I learned this repeatedly as the types of data changed. Text was efficient.
Graphics took up more space. Microsoft created file formats for its Office
software that took up even more.

Silicon Valley's disk-drive innovators kept pace. Then came multimedia,
especially MP3s, the music format that routinely uses a couple of megabytes
a song. My Apple iPod MP3 player will fill up one of these days.

But the iPod has a measly (!) 10 gigabytes. By this time next year we'll
see tiny media players with 40 or 60 gigabytes of storage.

Ah, but what about video? That's the ultimate space hog, right? Yes, for
now. My hard-disk video recorder at home has what today is a laughably
small capacity, 40 gigabytes, but it holds more than 30 hours of video I
record from the satellite, ensuring that there's usually something I want
to watch when I get home.

The kinds of files we store keep getting bulkier, but the disk-drive
wizards are moving fast enough to stay ahead. In the next few years, given
their continuing innovation, they're likely to do something I didn't
imagine possible until recently -- give us so much storage at such a low
cost that we genuinely don't know how to use it all.

But in the short term, disk space still will be somewhat constrained.

Here's one example of how we'll use it: I just installed the 2003
Encyclopedia Britannica on my laptop computer. It came on a DVD disk and
took up about 2.4 gigabytes of space. This is the same encyclopedia, with
multimedia additions, that used to take up a huge bookshelf. Now I carry it
around.

The immense storage capabilities of computer disk drives also make me
wonder whether applications we once assumed should reside on central
servers might migrate back down to the desktop. Corporations could install
employee Web sites on laptop computers, for example.

I'd also like to have a home server that stored everything -- music,
movies, reference materials, software, you name it -- for easy access by
devices I use around the house. Of course, I'd want a backup of everything.

But the huge capacities of drives for desktops and servers remind us of
another aspect of the industry's progress. Disk drives are getting smaller,
too. We'll soon embed huge amounts of storage into small devices.

Digital movie cameras are starting to be equipped with hard disks, a
natural step. Soon enough, though, all kinds of other things we use every
day will make a record of what they're doing. That will raise some new
questions. For example, what are the privacy implications of our
automobiles keeping track of where we drive and at what speed, as the car
makers, insurance industry and government snoops will surely wish?

In the medium term, we could fill up disks at the edge of networks in order
to help spread multimedia content to people who want to use it. This will
be necessary given the near-zero probability that the telecommunications
industry will give us sufficient bandwidth -- the speed of network data
connections -- for centralized multimedia delivery.

The furor over digital copying is a direct outgrowth of storage
improvements. Not until large numbers of songs and videos could be easily
stored on personal hard disks did the music and movie industries get
seriously worried about the networks that began to connect those disks.
Without mass storage, Napster would have been much less relevant.

The expanding capacity of portable drives opens a new front in the
entertainment cartel's war with its customers. Song traders don't need to
use the Internet anymore. They can hold parties in friends' homes, swapping
songs from disk to disk. Soon it will be movies.

I rely on futurists to help me understand what we'll store on disks or
other storage memory, such as flash memory, in the long term.

Gordon Bell, a computer industry legend, imagines wearable devices that
hold everything we've ever seen, heard and said.

Player Piano.

Finding the key to life
February 20 2003
Roman Polanski's latest film, The Pianist, is one of many in a century of
movie history where the piano - and its player - take centre stage. Philip
Kennicott reports.

The credits at the end of Roman Polanski's The Pianist could have included
this disclaimer: No actual pianos were harmed in the making of this film.
The movie (which last week received an Academy Award nomination for best
picture) about a Jewish pianist struggling to survive the predations of
Nazi-occupied Warsaw, shows the world shattered and in flames, but it
treats pianos with a distant, unsentimental respect.

They are sold for food, and as shell-pocked houses become permeable to the
elements, they suffer some inevitable weather damage. But even as Warsaw is
transformed from a cosmopolitan cultural capital into a charnel house,
pianos are given some measure of protection.

That makes The Pianist better than most piano movies - and the piano movie
is definitely a genre unto itself, with some distinguished exemplars:
Casablanca and Truffaut's Shoot the Piano Player, to name two familiar ones.

Polanski avoids almost a century of piano cliches. Indeed, one way to read
this film is as his studious, methodical effort to avoid making a piano
movie. The pianist is usually a hero or a neurotic, and occasionally both
(as in 1996's Shine, in which the heroic pianist battles his inner demons);
the piano is his religion; his perfect spouse; he cannot live without his
piano; the piano stands for all of civilisation.

The equating of the piano with civilisation - sometimes with its attributes
of culture and learning, and sometimes, as in Jane Campion's The Piano
(1993), with its repressive, colonialist shadow - has led to the orgy of
piano wreckage in cinema. Pianos are burned, smashed, crushed, dropped and
thrown overboard in movies. In Campion's film, a piano is dropped into the
ocean; a piano goes down with the ship in James Cameron's Titanic (1997);
an almost ruined piano figures prominently in The English Patient (1996).
Furniture removers dangling a piano high above urban streets like the sword
of Damocles are, in television advertising, a standard representation of
fate and its quirks. Laurel and Hardy mined all the lowbrow comic
possibilities of piano destruction in 1932's The Music Box, while, in 1928,
Luis Bunuel created an image in Un Chien Andalou that remains one of the
most recognisable moments in all of avant-garde film: Two grand pianos,
their lids open, each one filled with a dead donkey.

The pianos in Bunuel's surrealist fantasy are Bechsteins, a lovely German
instrument. The protagonist in The Pianist, Wladislaw Szpilman (played by
American actor Adrian Brody), ownes a Bechstein. It sits in his family's
Warsaw apartment until keeping it any longer becomes an unjustifiable luxury.

Szpilman's brother opposes selling it for an insulting price to an oily war
profiteer; Szpilman waves him off and takes the money.

Polanski's pianist is a sensible man. In that, he stands apart from the
long tradition of the pianist as a romantic hero, perhaps best represented
by a film so bad it's good, A Song to Remember (1945).

By converting Chopin from a foppish consumptive to a butch exponent of
truth, justice and the American way, it takes more liberties than an Oliver
Stone film. Worse, it equates artistic effort with political courage.

The pianist makes music for his people; he contributes muscle in the
struggle for freedom (in this case, Polish freedom from Russian hegemony)
by making muscular music. He sets aside the trifles of salon music, the
waltzes and short ditties, to write a grand heroic polonaise and thus
creates a universal music that inspires a transcendent struggle for
self-determination. It's pure codswallop. But after long and gruelling
years of world war, it was influential codswallop, and a certifiable hit
with multiple Academy Award nominations. It also helped bring Chopin's
music to a wide audience (and boosted the career of pianist Jose Iturbi,
who played on the soundtrack).

It cemented, in the popular imagination, the connection between Chopin,
Poland and the struggle against tyranny.

The romanticisation by moviemakers of the piano, as opposed to, say, the
bassoon or kettledrums, is fascinating. In the era of black-and-white
films, there was a certain built-in visual richness to the piano; its ebony
bulk is imposing and its black-and-white keyboard creates an instant rhythm
of sharp contrasts on-screen.

And the piano doesn't distort the face of the instrumentalist;
clarinetists, no matter how hard they try, always look as if some rigid
serpent has a death lock on their mouths.

The pianist can be a composed and regal figure (though many directors
insist on making the pianist sway and grimace and stare rapturously at the
heavens).

But the piano may also appeal to filmmakers because it is a machine.

Moviemaking is the most

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - School officials ordered a 16-year-old student to
either take off a T-shirt emblazoned with the words ``International
Terrorist'' and a picture of President Bush or go home, saying they worried
it would inflame passions at the school where a majority of students are
Arab-American.
The student, Bretton Barber, chose to go home. He said he wore the shirt
Monday to express his anti-war position and for a class assignment in which
he wrote a compare-contrast essay on Bush and Iraq President Saddam Hussein.
Schools spokesman Dave Mustonen said students have the right to freedom of
expression, but educators are sensitive to tensions caused by the conflict
with Iraq.
``It was felt that emotions are running very high,'' Mustonen said.

A Project Of Liberation
by Insurgent-S
“Theory must also take into account the human element; it must accord a
place to courage, to boldness, even to rashness. The Art of War has to
deal with living and with moral forces, the consequence of which is that
it can never attain the absolute and positive… courage and self-reliance
are principles quite essential to war; consequently, theory must only set
up such rules as allow ample scope for all degrees and varieties of these
necessary and noblest of military virtues. In daring there may still be
wisdom, and prudence as well, only they are estimated by a different
standard of value.”
- Clausewitz, “On War”
In all the history of the class struggle the exploited have always
resisted their oppression. Often in individual and isolated ways, and
sometimes in social movements leading to mass insurrections. Throughout
the history of the class war innumerable theories, organizations, and
movements have developed in opposition to capitalism, and insurrectionary
anarchism, being one tendency among many, should be clarified as having
many real and significant differences from all the others.
In the history of the clash between classes anarchists have defined
themselves as a conscious minority within the movement of the exploited,
a group that moves with the current of the social struggle against
capitalism and the State. Insurrectionary anarchists do not act as a
minority outside the movement, attempting to organize, manage and control
the mass of the exploited, to subject the oppressed to the discipline of
a single organization, trade union or political party, but instead act as
accomplices to all exploited people on principles of solidarity and
mutual aid.
Anarchists identify their enemies as the dominant class and the
institutions of oppression and they do not hesitate to attack their
enemies. They do not wait for orders from on high, or for permission to
act against oppression, but instead analyze the reality of the social
clash which they find themselves in, combine with comrades on the basis
of affinity, and then immediately set out to assault all the structures
of domination. Insurrectionary anarchists see the struggle in qualitative
rather than quantitative terms and understand that every small,
destructive action taken against capitalism is a contribution to the
overall social clash. A revolution is undoubtedly the act of a mass of
exploited people rising in rebellion, but it is not through recruitment
and discipline under a single organization that such an outburst comes to
be. It should be obvious that it is useful for anarchists to clarify
their ideas and to present them to the mass of the exploited, but it is
not propaganda alone that will overturn existing conditions. Anarchists
should be distinguished from other revolutionaries because they act for
themselves, against their own oppression, and in solidarity with all the
oppressed people of the world. They do not seek to control or direct the
social war, and instead intervene in the movement of the exploited
through direct action and participation is mass organizations that are
based on principles of self-management of the struggle and uncompromising
conflict with the class enemy. Anarchists fight to awaken a spirit of
revolt across all of society, to completely destroy the economy of
exploitation.
Insurrectionary anarchists have ideas and methods of action that can be
of great importance to the oppressed. A clear rejection of dominant class
morality and law, a willingness to engage in direct action, a commitment
to permanent struggle, and a passion for freedom, all can contribute to a
revolutionary movement to overturn the present order. The importance of
the insurrectionary anarchist minority to the mass of the exploited is
not in the anarchist’s quality of leadership or advancement in class
consciousness. It is in anarchist action, in attacks on capitalist
institutions, and acts of solidarity with those suffering oppression. Any
exploited person can contribute to the struggle to overthrow the
exploiters. Insurrectionary anarchists merely demonstrate useful tools in
the social war, and by striking the enemy in simple and direct ways
provide points of reference that can be put to use by all.
Passivity, resignation and doubt can easily give way to determination and
defiance. A strategy of waiting can be thrown aside in favour of a
strategy of attack. Small affinity groups can immediately begin to
organize direct actions against specific institutions of capitalism;
schools, workplaces, businesses, and all the other prisons. Anarchists
can participate in base structures, mass organizations that are not
vehicles for anarchist ideology, but are instead tools with which to
dismantle specific repressive structures of the capitalist State. Bosses,
landlords, politicians, and all the other cops can be identified and
attacked. Capital can be destroyed to make room for life.

LONGISH...
Towards Another Anarchism
by Andrej Grubacic; February 07, 2003
* Rough transcript of a talk given by Andrej Grubacic as part of the Life
After Capitalism forum (WSF3, Porto Alegre, 2003.) *
---
A friend of mine has written recently that: no one needs another -ism from
the 19th century, another word which imprisons and fixes meaning, another
word that seduces a number of people into the clarity and comfort of a
sectarian box and leads others in front of the firing squad or a show
trial. Labels lead so easily to fundamentalism, brands inevitably breed
intolerance, delineating doctrines, defining dogma, and limiting the
possibility of change.
It is really difficult not to agree with this attitude. However, today it
is exactly my pleasant duty to present an -ism, and that is the -ism which
is the dominant perspective of today's post-Marxist global social movement.
It is anarchism. This idea, the idea of anarchism, has coloured the
sensibility of the movement of movements of which we are the
participants, and has stamped it with a essential inscription. Anarchism,
its ethical paradigm, represents today the basic inspiration of our
movement, which is less about seizing state power than about exposing,
de-legitimising and dismantling mechanisms of rule while winning
ever-larger spaces of autonomy from it.
It is my intention, in this couple of minutes that I have at my disposal,
to present to you in short the history of anarchism, in order to be able to
subsequently suggest a model of modern anarchism and strategic implications
which follow from accepting of such a model.
I am inclined to agree with those who see anarchism as a tendency in the
history of human thought and practice, a tendency which cannot be
encompassed by a general theory of ideology, that strives to identify
compulsory and authoritarian hierarchical social structures, by posing a
question of their legitimacy: if they cannot answer to this challenge,
which is most often the case, then anarchism becomes the effort to limit
their power and to widen the scope of liberty.
Anarchism is, therefore, is a social phenomenon and its contents as well as
manifestations in political activity change with time. One thing that is
special about anarchism is that, unlike all major ideologies , it could
never have had a stable and continuous existence on the ground through
being in government or a part of a party system. Its history and
contemporary characteristics are therefore determined by another factor -
cycles of political struggle. As a result, anarchism has a 'generational'
tendency in the sense that you can identify pretty discreet phases of its
history according to the period of struggle in which they were shaped. .
Naturally, as any other attempt at conceptualisation, this one is also
doomed to be simplified. I hope that, regardless of this, it will be useful
for the understanding of this social phenomenon.
Historically, the first phase was shaped by late 19th century class
struggles in Europe and is exemplified both theoretically and practically
by the Bakuninist faction in the 1st international. It starts in the run-up
to 1848, peaks with the Paris Commune (1871) and dwindles through the 80's.
It is quite an embryonic form of anarchism, mixing together anti-state
tendencies, anti-capitalism and atheism while retaining an essential
dependence on the skilled urban proletariat as a revolutionary agent.
Bakunin, that magnificent dreamer, that dynamite, not a man, who, in
1848, shouted that Beethoven's Ninth symphony should be saved from the
coming fires of the world revolution at the price of giving up one's life,
has bequeathed to us one of the most beautiful and perhaps the most precise
descriptions of a single leading idea within the anarchist tradition: I am
a fanatic lover of liberty, considering it as the unique condition under
which intelligence, dignity and human happiness can develop and grow; not
the purely formal liberty conceded, measured out and regulated by the
State, an eternal lie which in reality represents nothing more than the
privilege of some founded on the slavery of the rest; not the
individualistic, egoistic, shabby, and fictitious liberty extolled by the
School of J.-J. Rousseau and other schools of bourgeois liberalism, which
considers the would-be rights of all men, represented by the State which
limits the rights of each -- an idea that leads inevitably to the reduction
of the rights of each to zero. No, I mean the only kind of liberty that is
worthy of the name, liberty that consists in the full development of all
the material, intellectual and moral powers that are latent in each person;
liberty that recognizes no restrictions other than those determined by the
laws of our own individual nature, which cannot properly be regarded as
restrictions since these laws are not imposed by any outside legislator
beside or above us, but

HALLMARKS: *
1) We are anarchists because we believe that human freedom and happiness
would be best guaranteed by a society based on principles of
self-organization, voluntary association, and mutual aid, and because we
reject all forms of social relations based on systemic violence, such as
the state or capitalism.
2) We are, however, profoundly anti-sectarian, by which we mean two things:
a) we do not attempt to enforce any particular form of anarchism on one
other: Platformist, Syndicalist, Primitivist, Insurrectionist or any other.
Neither do we wish to exclude anyone on this basis - we value diversity as
a principle in itself, limited only by our common rejection of structures
of domination such as racism, sexism, fundamentalism, etc.
b) since we see anarchism not as a doctrine so much as a process of
movement towards a free, just, and sustainable, society, we believe
anarchists should not limit themselves to cooperating with those who
self-identify as anarchists, but should actively seek to cooperate with
anyone who are working to create a world based on those same broad
liberatory principles, and, in fact, to learn from them. One of the
purposes of the International is to facilitate this: both to make it easier
for us to bring some of those millions around the world who are,
effectively, anarchists without knowing it, into touch with the thoughts of
others who have worked in that same tradition, and, at the same time, to
enrich the anarchist tradition itself through contact with their experiences
3) We reject all forms of vanguardism and believe that the proper role of
the anarchist intellectual (a role that should be open to everyone) is to
take part in an ongoing dialogue: to learn from the experience of popular
community-building and struggle and offer back the fruits of reflection on
that experience not in the spirit of the dictat, but of the gift
4) Anyone who accepts these principles is a member of the Anarchist
International and everyone who is a member of the Anarchist International
is empowered to act as a spokesperson if they so desire. Because we value
diversity, we do not expect uniformity of views other than acceptance of
the principles themselves (and, of course, acknowledgement that such
diversity exists)
5) Organization is neither a value in itself nor an evil in itself;the
level of organizational structure appropriate to any given project or task
can never be dictated in advance but can only be determined by those
actually engaged in it. So with any project initiated within the
International: it should be up to those undertaking it to determine the
form and level of organization appropriate for that project. At this point,
there is no need for a decision-making structure for the International
itself but if in the future members feel there should be, it shall be up to
the group itself to determine how that process should work, provided only
that it be within the broad spirit of decentralization and direct democracy.

Furthermore, anarchism must turn to the experiences of other social
movements. It must be included in the courses of progressive social
science. It must be in collusion with ideas that come from the circles
close to anarchism. Let's take for example the idea of participatory
economy, which represents an anarchist economist vision par excellence and
which supplements and rectifies anarchist economic tradition. It would also
be wise to listen to those voices that warn of the existence three major
classes in advanced capitalism, not just two. There is also another class
of people, branded coordinator class by these theoreticians. Their role is
that of controlling the labour of the working class. This is the class that
includes the management hierarchy and the professional consultants and
advisors central to their system of control - as lawyers, key engineers and
accountants, and so on. They have their class position because of their
relative monopolization over knowledge, skills, and connections. This is
what enables them to gain access to the positions they occupy in the
corporate and government hierarchies.
Another thing to note about the coordinator class is that it is capable of
being a ruling class. This is in fact the true historical meaning of the
Soviet Union and the other so called Communist countries. They are in fact
systems that empower the coordinator class.
Finally, I believe that modern anarchism has to turn to envisioning of
political vision.
This is not to say that various schools of anarchism did not advocate very
specific forms of social organization, albeit often markedly at variance
with one another. Essentially, however, anarchism as a whole advanced what
liberals are calling 'negative freedom,' that is to say, a formal 'freedom
from,' rather than a substantive 'freedom to.'
Indeed, anarchism often celebrated its commitment to negative freedom as
evidence of its

KOMO TV (website) COVERAGE

here's the short blurb that links to the longer story:

TOP STORY Protesters Shut Down 520 Bridge SEATTLE - A small group opposed
to a possible war with Iraq created a headache for Tuesday morning commuters.

here's the full story:

February 18, 2003 By KOMO Staff News Services

SEATTLE - About half a dozen people apparently protesting a possible war
with Iraq blocked Highway 520 in Seattle near the University of Washington.
They erected three poles in a structure that blocked eastbound traffic at
Montlake for about 20 minutes before police and State Troopers moved in and
cleared the busy highway. The surprise demonstration slowed the flow of
traffic across the Highway 520 floating bridge and also affected traffic
back on I-5. No word yet on arrests or possible charges.

Protest Blocks Lanes On SR 520 POSTED: 8:51 a.m. PST February 18, 2003
UPDATED: 9:20 a.m. PST February 18, 2003 SEATTLE -- Anti-war protesters
blocked lanes on State Route 520 in Seattle during the morning commute
Tuesday. State troopers arrested several people and have cleared the scene.

Protesters set up a pyramid structure with three poles in the eastbound
lanes of 520 at Montlake and appeared to be trying to put up a banner on
the structure before it was taken down by troopers. Troopers made five
arrests, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported. Officers removed the
pole-structure, banner and towed away a car to get traffic moving again.
The incident slowed the flow of traffic across the Highway 520 floating
bridge during the latter part of the morning commute, on the day following
a three-day weekend for many workers. A group of three or four dozen other
demonstrators watched the demonstration and shouted anti-war slogans.
Traffic in the westbound lanes of 520 was slowed for a time after someone
apparently stopped to videotape the arrests.

KING 5 (website) COVERAGE

02/18/2003 KING5.com

SEATTLE – Anti-war demonstrators blocked the Evergreen Point Floating
Bridge in the middle of the morning commute Tuesday, bringing eastbound
traffic to a complete stop for about 20 minutes.

Early reports suggested as many as five protestors were arrested. At least
that many could be seen waving signs in front of stopped cars when the
protest began around 8:45 a.m.

Witnesses said they saw the protestors jump out of two cars before setting
up signs and a teepee-like structure of poles spanning the lanes.

While we respect their right to protest, we can't have them doing it on
the highway because it infringes on other people's rights, Washington
State Patrol spokeswoman Monica Hunter said. Hunter said police had no
advance warning about the protest.

Traffic began moving again shortly after 9 a.m. after some 11 police and
Washington State Patrol officers converged on the seen to dismantle the
structure on the highway and move the protesters.

Westbound traffic was also affected, and traffic on Interstate 5 was also
backed up.

The incident came just days after a crowd of about 20,000 braved a rainy
Saturday to march between the Seattle Center, the Federal Building and the
Immigration and Naturalization Service detention center in protest of an
impending war.

The number of anti-war protestors across the globe over the weekend was
estimated to be in the millions.

analysis:

The KIRO story minimizes the turnout and the story as whole, the essential
message being -- an insignificant group of people caused a nuisance on 520
this morning: a small group created a headache...

The KOMO story not only gives more details about what happened (protestors
trying to raise the banner, how many were arrested), but gave more weight
to the event by mentioning that three or four dozen other demonstrators
were standing nearby in support.

The KING story is the longest and most detailed of the three. It includes a
quote -- from an 'official' source (police), not from from the protestors
themselves. Although the bulk of the story leans towards the inconvenience
and potential dangers of the action, the KING story does give more weight
to the event by linking it to related antiwar stories -- the tens of
thousands in Seattle, and the millions around the world, who protested war
in Seattle on Saturday.
All three stories seem geared to an audience of commuters -- seeing the
protest as they might, a hindrance to getting to work. The terms direct
action or civil disobedience are not included in these stories. Not
seeking quotes from the protestors, in affect, silences their voices and
minimizes their significance.

The police have been infiltrating radical protest actions in the bay area,
such as Reclaim The Streets! and black bloc type actions so much that they
are becoming familiar faces that are easier to spot. SFPD's undercovers
showed up again to the unpermitted anti-war breakaway march on February
16th, which ended up in highly physical confrontations between the cops and
protesters and the destruction of select corporate and law enforcement
targets.
The following video and photos show three undercover cops caught in their
not-so-sneaky attempts to infiltrate the breakaway march:

What Happened in New York
By Starhawk
The weekend of February 15 and 16 marks an historic, global uprising for
peace. The number of marches is uncounted: the number of marchers estimated
in the range of ten million. There were marches and vigils and protests in
national capitals and small towns, in the heartlands of middle America and
in small Pacific islands, in the freezing cold of Alberta and in the heat
of an Australian summer. Palestinians and Israelis marched together in Tel
Aviv: in the U.S. everyone from Republicans to socialists to anarcho-punks
shared the streets. And most of these hundreds of events took place with,
apparently, fairly minimal governmental repression.
New York was an exception.
New York, the largest city in the country that presumably shines as a
beacon of global democracy, refused to grant the organizers of the protest
a permit for a march. Only a stationary rally was allowed.
The denial of the march was only one feature in a campaign of harrassment,
that included the circulation of a rumor on the day before the rally that
the event had been cancelled, a Code Orange terrorist alert that stationed
military guards in the subways armed with automatic rifles, the denial of
permission to rent portable toilets for the masses expected at the rally,
the mysterious rerouting of subways and busses on the morning of the rally,
the cut-off of the phones in the United for Peace and Justice office during
the rally, and a repressive, heavy-handed and sometimes brutal police
presence that penned the official rally behind barricades and prevented
thousands from even getting there.
New York has the largest police force in the world: forty thousand strong.
When they decide to control public space, they have enormous resources with
which to do so, and generally succeed.
But not last Saturday.
On Saturday something like sixty different feeder marches started from
various points in the city to march to the rally. Many of them intended to
stay within the law by marching on the sidewalk‹an activity that does not
require a permit.
Some took the streets.
Taking the streets was, technically, an act of civil disobedience, a
conscious breaking of a law that is unjust or unfairly applied. In this
case, many of us felt that the law preventing us from marching as a unified
whole was violating our constitutional rights to freedom of speech and
assembly. And that if we did not defend our public and political space at
this crucial moment, that space would rapidly be taken away.
The Performing Arts March and the Labor March were able to take the streets
and march to the rally without incident. The police simply stood back and
let them go.
The students were not so favored. I was with the students¹ contingent that
gathered at Union Square around ten in the morning. A march from New York
University joined up with us, and together we headed out on Fourteenth
Street, on the sidewalk until Sixth Avenue, when we swarmed out into the
street.
We marched triumphantly up the avenue, in a fast-paced, exuberant mass that
was impossible to slow down, though some of us were trying in order to keep
the whole crowd of several thousand together.
Around Twenty-first street, the police met us with a line of cops that
stretched across the road. We were ordered to get back on the sidewalk or
face arrest. The police were being provocative, pushing and shoving us with
their nightsticks, and the students were doing an admirable job of
restraining themselves from fighting back. Instead, they turned a corner,
swarmed onto a side street, ducked through a parking lot at a dead run and
came out onto another street. Some of the march was left behind, but it
formed another column to go snake-marching through the side streets.
We met up again on Fifth Avenue, but then got pushed onto Twenty-third
Street and trapped by a line of cops in front and back. I saw one young man
pushed to the ground with five cops kneeling on him, twisting his arms
behind his back to cuff him.
The street was crowded with masses of students, and the police decided to
run a line of horses through in order to split the crowd and push people
back onto the sidewalks. The horses, some of which seemed under only very
shaky control, trotted through the crowd, and then the cops announced that
they were only going to let people out in small groups, about fifty at a
time. Our group got split‹half of us were squeezed out and the other half
prevented from leaving. The cops forced the groups that left to move on, in
order to prevent us massing together again.
Our small contingent marched up to the Main Library, on Forty-second
Street, where we met up with some of the lost members of our group, and
continued up toward the Rally Zone. The police had barricades on all the
streets leading east through the Fifties at Lexington Avenue. People were
not being allowed to go through to join the rally.
Many people were upset and angry,

Last time I went into court to take the plea (1 month in jail, 5 months
community confinment, 3 years supervised release) it was thrown out by the
judge because he wanted me to serve a longer sentence. Since then a
pre-plea report has been put together, and my lawyer is requesting another
court date in which the report will be presented to the judge to see if he
will re-consider accepting a plea within the 6-12 months sentencing range.
Based on my criminal history category level, the maximum I can serve on
this charge by pleading is 12 months. However, after recently consulting
with the USPO, we learned that a terrorism enhancement is applicable in
my case, in which I could potentially get 20 years. I could very well get
12 months in federal prison if the judge accepts the plea, or he could
completly reject the plea again once and i'd be left having to face a
terrorism enhancement. At first we thought the terrorism enhancement
did not apply on my case, but after consulting the USPO, we found out that
it IS applicable. This enhancement is being left up to the court (judge) on
whether or not he wants to use it against me. The enhancement is a decision
made by the judge which adds an additional sentence up to 20 years. I will
probibly be going back to court Feb 20 or 21st, or the following week
afterwards. Updates will be posted to raisethefist.com as they come.

Reward for DVD-CCA Snitches

2003-02-19 Thread Major Variola (ret)
Rewards For DVD-CCA Snitches

Routers News Page 1 of 1 08:35 AM Feb. 19, 2003 PT

CALIFORNIA -- America is seeking informers to combat tech-smart and often
heavily
armed Hollywood pirate gangs, including the MPAA and RIAA, which are
flooding the world with poorly made and ineffectually copy-protected DVDs
which are robbing the American film consumer of $646 million a year, an
industry official said on Wednesday.

Michael Ellis, Asia-Pacific crackhead for the Motion Picture Association of
America, said his organization had put aside $150,000 to whack informers whose
tips lead to successful police raids on DVD-CCA-blessed factories.

The assasins could be anyone, plant engineers or the wife of the guard,
Ellis told
Routers after a launch of the reward program.

We'll work with some assasins over a long period. Some people are
professional
assasins, they can make a good living out of working with us, he said.
Well connected folks
like Jack Valenti make loads of money he pointed out.

MPAA, which represents Hollywood's biggest pimps such as Warner Brothers,
Twentieth Century Fox and Walt Disney, started hiring assasins in Hong Kong
last
year. Their plan is to shred the US Constitution and legal precedent
within the decade.

The organization is stretching its campaign to Thailand, India, Indonesia,
Korea,
Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and the Philippines this month. They will
accept delivery of a dozen Predators, with Hellfires, in the coming months.

Ellis said many Asian countries are not just pirating havens, but growing
exporters of
fake IDs to Europe and the United States. He said authorities
carried out 63 successful raids on illegal optical disc factories last
year. Optical
disks don't kill fair use, contend vocal opponents, corporations that sleep
with
politicians do. Most opponents were rounded up in the protests of late '04
and are unable to
take further action, by order of their probation officers, as part of a
class-action
plea bargan arranged by US Attorney General Ashcroft.

But illegal thoughts still flooded Asian markets, representing 90 percent
of total
thoughts in Indonesia, 80 percent in the Philippines, 75 percent in
Malaysia, 70 percent
in Thailand, 60 percent in India and 44 percent in Taiwan.

DVD piracy in the region had evolved from petty crime into highly organized
mob
operations, making factory raids even more difficult, Ellis said. Mob
operations directly
compete with nominally elected mob organizations such as the United
States government,
a wholly owned subsidiary of the MPAA.

Because it's organized crime, the tentacles often go into business,
politics and even
law enforcement, said Ellis, a former Hong Kong pimp. And the gangs even
have counter-surveillance people watching police activities and warning their
factories of possible raids. In a raid in a province of Kentucky, we found
M16s, ammunition and even a machine to make bullets.

Ellis declined to say how much informants would be paid, saying that
rewards would
be significant and dependent on the quality of information provided. Their
families would be repatriated anonymously in one of several western
nations, government sources said under conditions of anonymity.

If we need more money we'll get it. Money isn't the issue. We can print
it.

CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS PROPOSAL

2003-02-19 Thread SODINDO MALINGA
0031613777023
HAARLEM,
THE NETHERLANDS.

CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS PROPOSAL.

You may be surprised to receive this letter from me
since you do not know me personally. I am Sodindo Malinga, the first son of Tawanda
Malinga, the most popular black farmer in Zimbabwe who was murdered in the land dispute
in my country. I got your contact
through network online hence decided to write you.
Before the death of my father, he had taken me to
Johannesburg to deposit the sum of US8.6 million
(Eight million, Six Hundred thousand United States
dollars), in one of the private security company,
as he foresaw the looming danger in Zimbabwe this money was deposited in a box as gem
stones to avoid much demurrage from security company. This amount was meant for the
purchase of new machines and chemicals for the Farms and establishment of new farms in
Swaziland.
This land problem came when Zimbabwean President Mr.
Robert Mugabe introduced a new Land Act Reform
wholly affecting the rich white farmers and some
few black farmers, and this resulted to the killing and mob action by Zimbabwean war
veterans and some lunatics in the society. In fact a lot of people were killed because
of this Land reform Act for which my father was one of the victims.

It is against this background that, I and my family
fled Zimbabwe for fear of our lives and are
currently staying in the Netherlands where we are
seeking political asylum and moreso have decided to
transfer my father’s money to a more reliable
foreign account. since the law of Netherlands
prohibits a refugee (asylum seeker) to open any
bank account or to be involved in any financial
transaction throughout the territorial zone of Netherlands, As the eldest son of my
father, I am saddled with the responsibility of seeking a genuine foreign account
where this money could be transferred without the knowledge of my government who are
bent on taking everything we have got. The South African government seems to be
playing along with them.

I am faced with the dilemma of moving this amount of
money out of South Africa for fear of going through
the same experience in future, both countries have
similar political history. As a businessman,I am
seeking for a partner who I have to entrust my
future and that of my family in his hands, I must let you know that this transaction
is risk free. If you accept to assist me and my family, all I want you to do for me,
is to make an arrangements with the security company to clear the consignment(funds)
from their afiliate office here in the Netherlands as i have already given directives
for the consignment to be brought to the Netherlands from South Africa. But before then
all modalities will have to be put in place like change of ownership to the consignment
and more importantly this money I intend to use for
 investmentment.

I have two options for you. Firstly you can choose
to have certain percentage of the money for nominating your account for this
transaction. Or you can go into partnership with me for the proper profitable
investment of the money in your country. Whichever the option you want, feel free to
notify me. I have also mapped out 5% of this money for all kinds of expenses incurred
in the process of this transaction.
If you do not prefer a partnership I am willing to
give you 10% of the money while the remaining 85%
will be for my investment in your country. Contact me
with the above telephone number or my E-mail address
while I implore you to maintain the absolute
 secrecy required in this transaction.

Thanks, GOD BLESS YOU

Yours Faithfully,
Sodindo Malinga.

Gephardt Formally Announces Presidential Candidacy
Outlines Ambitious Proposals to lift this lagging economy and
build a new American prosperity.
St. Louis, MO Dick Gephardt today announced his candidacy for the
Presidency of the United States at the Mason Elementary School where
Gephardt was educated and raised.

My dad was a milk truck driver, a proud member of the Teamsters, Gephardt
said. My mother was a secretary. Neither of my parents finished high
school. They didnt have much money. But they saved what they could
five, ten dollars a week so I could get an education and live out my
dreams. I want to dedicate this day to my mother Loreen and my late
father, Lou Gephardt. This campaign is for them -- and for all who seek
and strive to do right by their kids.  Theyre the true American heroes;
theyre the people Im fighting for.

An economic crossroads

Ten years ago, America was at another economic crossroads. We were losing
jobs. Incomes were falling. Our nation was choked with the highest
deficits in history, $290 billion, enough red ink to drown the Washington
Monument. As House Majority Leader, I led the fight to pass the
Clinton-Gore economic plan to slash the deficit, invest in education, cut
taxes for working families, and ask the wealthy to pay their fair
share. Not a single Republican voted for that plan; they said it was a
job-killer. Instead, it led to the single longest economic expansion in
history. The highest home ownership ever. The lowest inflation in a
generation. Over 22 million new jobs. Turns out we were right, and the
other side was wrong.

Yet President Bush has taken us right back to the broken policies of the
past, the economics of debt and regret: unaffordable tax cuts for the
few. Zero new jobs. Surging unemployment. Ive got to hand it to him:
never has so much been done, in so little time, to help so few

Thats the Bush record - a nation with zero job creation, racked with
debt, unprepared for the economy of the future. A nation thats growing
apart, when we should be growing together.

A contest of ideas

A Presidential campaign is a contest for votes. But its also a contest
of ideas. Some politicians will say, give me your support now and Ill
figure out the issues later. Well Im in this to fight for your jobs, not
merely to win one for myself. Every proposal I am making every idea Im
advancing has a single, central purpose to revive a failing economy,
and give working Americans the help and the security they need to make the
most of it, on their own.

An unshakeable commitment to keep our defenses strong

As President, Ill start with an unshakeable commitment to keep our
defenses strong. Were in a new world, with manifold new dangers from
global terror, to the recklessness of rogue dictators like Saddam Hussein,
to international crime and drug-running that rips at the very fabric of
freedom. In the face of new dangers, we need a familiar resolve. I will
make sure our armed forces remain the best-equipped, best-trained, best-led
fighting force in the entire world.

I stand with this administrations efforts to disarm Saddam Hussein. And
Im proud that I wrote the resolution that helped lead the President to
make his case at the United Nations. For all our military might, there are
too many threats to our security, too many global challenges for America to
simply go it alone. We need the friendship and cooperation of our
time-honored allies. We must lead the world, instead of merely bullying it.

Ensure the security of our homeland

We must do more to ensure the security of our homeland where it matters
most in the places where you live and workAs President, Ill give local
police and fire departments, the first responders, unprecedented tools and
training, so they can be the front line in the war against terror. Ill
create a brand new Homeland Security Trust Fund, so states and local
communities have all the resources they need to keep your families safe and
secure.

Scrap the vast majority of the Bush tax cuts

My economic plan begins at the beginning. We have to scrap the vast
majority of the Bush tax cuts for wealthier Americans and
corporations. And Ill tell you why: theyre unaffordable, unsustainable,
and patently unfair. Mind you, Im all for helping wealthy Americans grow
our economy. But doling out tax cuts they dont want or need is not the
way to do it. Without the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, we can do more to
promote innovation, the engine of growth in this ideas economy.

Health care: A moral imperative

Without the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, we can finish the unfinished
business of providing high-quality health coverage to everyone who works in
America, saving billions, and stimulating one of the biggest sectors of our
private economy. To me, this is a moral imperative.

Re: The burn-off of twenty million useless eaters and minorities

2003-02-19 Thread Steve Schear
At 06:43 PM 2/18/2003 -0600, Kevin S. Van Horn wrote:
Tim May wrote:

It goes beyond just the black leaders thing--it's also about black pride.

My eye-opening experience was my arrival in college (as Brits would say,
at university) in 1970.
Well, this post explains a lot about Tim's attitude. Myself, I never ran
into this kind of crap in college. I attended college 10 years later, in a
conservative state (Utah). The few blacks I've encountered personally
have mostly seemed to be decent people.
I can support some of what Tim says. Although I was born in New York and
absorbed some of the street ethics there, I grew up mostly in Los
Angeles. During the late '60s, in an effort to encourage voluntary
integration, the city (with state and fed help) designated magnet schools
which featured enriched curriculum. My school, Hamilton High, was selected
as the math center (we also became, briefly, the science center due to
delay in the completion of Crenshaw High) and got a brand new IBM 1130 and
a several college professors for the AP math, chemistry and physics
classes. A few of us were sent to IBM's customer education classes to get
up quickly up to speed (some of the regular teachers also attended but they
did poorly). The advanced placement level math and science classes enabled
me to ace the SAT and ACT test and entrance exams and get into CalTech
(something I doubt I would otherwise been able to do).

Kids from all over LA were bussed to Hamilton. Most were good students, and
I made a few new friends, not so some of the African Americans. Hami had
always been a safe place, but almost immediately after the arrival of the
busses there were stories of shakedowns in the rest rooms and on the lunch
court. (like Tim, the faculty knew there were some bad apples but took no
steps to identify and expel them from the program.)

I had been a serious student of martial arts (Shodokan, Aikido and Hapkido)
since middle school and, though I was only about 5' 2, I was well along to
my black belt by the time I entered high school (this was when getting a
black belt in the U.S. was still roughly equivalent to getting one in
Asia). When I heard of the trouble I took to carrying concealed martial
arts weapon, usually a nanchuk or tonfa (now often used by law
enforcement), on my back. My first incident happened in the athletics class.

As was the regimen then, the class would line up before and after
activities to check attendance, then we would shower. To help the
instructor the lineup order was fixed. It so happened that the student
behind me was one of those being bussed in. I had not taken much notice of
him until the day he decided that my back looked to be good target for his
fist. His method was to punch me about every 5 seconds like clock
work.

Several days later three of his friends tried to jump me between classes in
a relatively isolated area of the campus, one had a knife I gave them a
very painful lesson with my nanchuk. I never saw them again either, nor
was I ever questioned about them by school administrators. Afterward, I
took to walking to classes with friends, mostly other martial arts
students, but no further incidents occurred. Its a good thing this
happened back then. Today, I would have been shot and/or arrested.

Re: The burn-off of twenty million useless eaters and minorities

2003-02-19 Thread Steve Schear
At 03:00 PM 2/19/2003 -0500, Tyler Durden wrote:
Steve Schear and Tim May mention some interesting incidents. In Steve
Schear's case, there's a mysterious absence of response:

No one asked me about him, I never saw him again and none of the students
said a word.

Several days later three of his friends tried to jump me I never saw
them again either, nor was I ever questioned about them by school
administrators.

Well, obviously my following points will probably be met with scepticism
(to say the least), but here goes.

If those same incidents had occurred in an all-white environment, most of
the time there'd be hell to pay. People would freak out, and students
expelled. In THESE cases, however, there's the tolerance and even
expectation of bad behavior on the part of black students. While teaching
in Brooklyn, I saw the same thing again and again: You can't change them,
that's the way they are. Even here, officials fail to respond for fear of
political reprisals, while negative behavior is expected.

Of course, expectations don't FORCE a group to meet those expectations. So
I'm not saying people have no responsibility for their actions. But I AM
pointing out that the non-response (of which the NYC High Schools are
merely a giant example) is tainted with racism, and this racism gets
magnified via the projecting lens (perhaps a camera lumina?) of
institutions. So it basically takes whatever's already messed up and
excacerbates the problem.
Not too sure. I noticed a similar lack of involvement interest when school
yard fights broke out between pink students. Once word spread that some
bussed in trouble makers had been dealt with the level of problems
appeared to abate (at least until I graduated). It was reckless for the
teachers and administrators to take no obvious actions and I probably
should have been expelled. I was careful not to mention these incidents to
my friends or family until I graduated.

BTW, there were quite a few local brown/black students who attended
Hami. I saw few if any hanging out with those bussed in. It seemed they
also wished not to associate with trouble makers.

Remember when our whole 'real' reason for going into Afghanistan was

No, the real reason was because terrorists hate freedom and
democracy, and the US wanted Afghanistan to be free and
democratic. So the US killed a lot of people there, so as to
spread respect for freedom and democracy, and installed another
dictator without elections, or any plan for elections. And if
you will check out a little geology, you'll learn that
Afghanistan doesn't have any substantial oil.

 Alternative E-mail Address:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Dear Friend,

I am DEACON RAHAN VUYO a native of Cape Town in South
Africa and I am an Executive Accountant with the South
African department of Mining and Natural Resources.
Please accept my apology for using this medium to
convey a transaction/business of this magnitude, but
this is due to the confidentiality and prompt access
reposed on this medium. Be informed that a member of
the South Africa Export Promotion Council (SEPC) who
was a member of the government delegate to your
country gave your contact to me. I have decided to
seek your co-operation in the execution of this deal
described hereunder, for the benefit of all parties
and hoping you will keep it as TOP SECRET because ofthe
nature of the business.
Within the department of Mining and Natural Resources
(where I work as a director), and with the cooperation
of four other top officials, we have in our possession
as overdue payment bills totaling Eighteen Million,
Five Hundred Thousand US Dollars (US$18,500,000.00)
which we want to transfer abroad with the assistance
and cooperation of a company/or an individual to
receive the said funds, via a reliable Bank Account.
Quite frankly, we are handicapped as the South African
civil service laws (Code of Conduct Bureau) strongly
prohibits us from owning/or operating a foreign
account hence your importance in this wholetransaction.

This amount (US$18.5M) represents the balance of the
total value of a contract executed on behalf of my
department by a foreign contracting firm which we the
officials (involved) deliberately over-invoiced.
Though the actual cost have been paid to the original
contractor leaving the balance in the tune of the said
amount which we have in principle gotten approval to
remit by Key Tested Telegraphic transfer (K.T.T.) to
any foreign bank account you will provide by filing an
application through the justice ministry here in South
Africa for the transfer of rights and privileges ofthe
former contractor to you.

I have the authority of my partners involved to
propose that should you be willing to assist us in
this transaction by way of providing the required
account in receiving these funds, your share of the
entire sum will be 30% amounting to Us$5.55Million of
the US$18.5Million, 60% amounting to US$11.1Million
for us and 10% amounting to US$1.85Million will be
used to settle taxation and other miscellaneous
expenses in the course of transferring the funds to
your account. The business itself is 100% foolproof
and safe, as long as you maintain utmost secrecy and
confidentiality. furthermore your area of
specialization will not be a hindrance to the
successful completion of this transaction. I have
reposed my confidence in you and hope you will not
disappoint me. Should you be willing to assist
positively with a common goal, endeavor to contact me
immediately through my above email address.
If you are not interested, please also indicate so
that it will enable me to contact other foreign
partner with recommendations to carry out this deal.

I want to assure you that my colleagues and I are in
position to make the payment of this claim possible
provided that you can give us a very concrete
assurance of the safety of our share. Please, always
treat this matter with utmost confidentiality, because
we will not comprehend any form of exposure as we are
still in active government service. Time is of essence
in this business, so kindly act fast.

I await in anticipation your fullest co-operation.

Yours Faithfully,

 DEACON RAHAN VUYO.

Apparently, helping lots of young people to be concious (sic) of their
own heritage includes shakedowns, threats and theft:

http://www.americanpatrol.org/MECHA/MEChAindex.html

It appears that this gang is also bent on re-conquering the South-
western United States.

And I respect the people who are willing to dedicate their lives to
something with meaning a lot more than making more microchips for the
 rich.

Even the so-called poor minorities use and benefit from microchips
a hell of a lot more than they benefit from all these consciousness
of heritage idiots.

I'd say that making microchips, or collecting garbage for that matter,
has much more meaning than raising consciousness of ethnic heritage
and other such bullshit.

You're right about evolution though, all those women's studies
and black studies programs are helping evolution along, so that
racists like you can have their eyes opened more often.

Those programs will eventually be relegated to the ash heaps of history.
