I think that is a plausible thought. I have used arch for many years with very
few problems, but libc/glib updates may well be connected to some the few ones
I have had.

My current glibc package is built at jan. 17 2018.

To the DT developers: What we kind off narrowed the Arch problem down
to is that whenever Arch makes major upgrades of libc and glib the
transition between old and new versions sometimes is not consistent
across all libraries resulting in missing runtime references til
libraries. ldd is your friend ;-)

I am core developer of another open source project - Claws Mail, where
we have also had reports lately of strange errors. The common
denominator for all the users reporting those strange problems was that
they were all using Arch Linux.

warning, --library :memory: does not save you image setting to the
database and does not alter your database. it does save the image changes
into the .xmp files and you can get the changes into your database
by importing the images w/o the above commandline parameters.

if you use the above commandline for a while and don't have the problem,
you have narrowed the scope of the problem. to affect a
solution/resolution, it is necessary to change your workflow to try to
determine where/what the problem is, as no-one has acknowledged that they
have this problem.

if you don't want to try different things, we are wasting time trying to
help you.

I can try that, although as said I am not sure how to reproduce the problem,
it comes and goes.

I haven't studied dt's use of config files in detail. But I am sure it saves
configuration, since it normally remembers all my settings, presets, history
and window state just fine - something that I really appreciates :)

I had a HP Elitebook 2560p, which had an error, so I sent it in for repair.
They gave me another one (same model), so I installed archlinux on it, and
restored my homedir from a backup. In general, all my software works as
before, including dt, which remembers my collection history, presets etc.

My DE is Plasma, but why/how would that affect dt, and why would it'saffect
suddenly change? I have run dt for years.

I do not think the problem comes from the system change.

Kindly,
Anders

did you try: darktable --cachedir /dev/null --configdir /dev/null --library
:memory:

either you don't understand the question or I fail to understand the
answer.

which "config file" did you move and what do you mean "between systems"?
the answer you give does not help with either.

remove "--datadir /dev/null" from above line.

you don't need to make changes to your system.
  darktable --cachedir /dev/null --configdir /dev/null --datadir /dev/null
--library :memory:

  darktable --help

which "config file"?

doesn't that make you believe you might have a system problem, dt working
on the system you "moved" to?

archlinux, using pacman

Well, I can back up. But my configuration contains valuable information. I
believe that there is some misbehavior in dt, since this can happen.

I could try to find a way to make this happen reliably, and then report that so
it can be tested.

I did move my config file between systems, and it mostly works, only problem I
found is that some watermark files seems to be missing.

where did you get dt?

build or install from ...?

if you built it, did you clear/clean completely your previous build?

if you used Bruno Pagani's build, he updated 10 March. is that newer?

have you considered starting dt w/o your current cache and config files?
