[darktable-user] css

2020-09-01 Thread François Patte
Bonjour,

Is there somewhere a clear and full explanation of the css in darktable
ie.: what are header_label, darktable_label, view_label, view_dropdown,
lib-plugin-ui etc. etc.

And what are the available "values" for each?

I am struggling to have homogeneous font sizes for the different panels
and menus... For instance: I changed the font size for the names of the
modules but if I open a module, the font size stays as before...

Thank you.

[darktable-user] font-size on the DT interface

2020-03-04 Thread François Patte
Bonjour,

I want to change the font-size on the darktable interface (on DT 2.6 the
size was too small, on DT 3.0 it is too large!). I did not find how to
do this in the preferences.

So, I copied the file from
/opt/darktable/share/darktable/style/style.css in my ~/.config/darktable
and tried to change the font-size, but it does not work!

How can I proceed?

Thank you.

Thank you for this work!

I would like to mention a little problem (since 2.6.0 version): when the
mouse pointer comes over the name of a film roll (in lighttable) or over
the name of a module in the "more module" tab (in darkroom), the name
begins to blink in a disastreous way...

One more question: will a version of darktable where you can have the
image window and the control windows apart be built?

Thank you.

[darktable-user] export to gimp

2018-08-01 Thread François Patte
Bonjour,

I try to export a photo to gimp 2.10, but it does not work.

I open a raw file with gimp and as expected, gimp calls darktable to
open the photo. When I want to export the photo to gimp, I set DT to
export to gimp, gimp opens a dialog box saying: "unable to open
/tmp/foo.jpg no such file or directory".

Is there some config tool in DT where I can say where to export the
files when I want to export to gimp?

Thank you.

Thank you for this clear answer.

Another question: is there a way to include the xmp data in a file while
exporting, for gimp seems to be unable to read a separate .xmp file
associated to an image file?

[darktable-user] darktable treatment of jpeg photos

2018-05-19 Thread François Patte
Bonjour,

If you open a jpeg photo in darktable, you can modify it (exposition,
contrast, etc.). As far as I understand the way dt works, the jpeg file
is not modified but all changes are recorded in the xmp file and a new
jpeg file is created when you export your photo at the end of the
treatment (am I right?).

So my question is: is there some loss when I export the photo to a jpeg
file after treatment with dt and is there a cumulative loss of quality
if I reopen the original jpeg with dt (not the exported one) in order to
add or modify some module actions?

What is the best strategy to work with dt on jpeg photos? Work directly
with the jpeg format or convert this one to another lossless format
(using imagemagick for instance) and work with this format before
exporting to the jpeg format?

I expect that what I say is enough understandable

Thank you.

Thank you very much, that's work now with a slight correction:

echo 'require "contrib/gimp"' > luarc

It does not work with the lua extension.

Why don't you put these lines in the lua scripts page on the darktable site?

I try to export from darktable to gimp and it is not an easy task: what
do you call "that" lua script? I found at least two. It seems that one
is for linux, the other for windows but it is not explicitely mentionned!

One seems to work for linux and adds a line "export and reimport and
gimp" but nothing happens! In fact almost nothing: if I choose the tiff
format to export a new photo (tif) appears in the lighttable this
does not occurs if I choose jpg format. In both case a file is created
in /tmp but gimp does not automatically opens these files.

So, I launch darktable with option -d lua and I get an error:

 2,583079 LUA ERROR : /home/patte/.config/darktable/lua/gimp.lua:67:
module 'lib/dtutils.file' not found:

Where is it said that this file is required? I don't know...

I found a file dtutils on the internet and this error disappeared
Hurrah! But, when I try to export a file to gimp, new errors appear:

24,546088 LUA ERROR : /home/patte/.config/darktable/lua/gimp.lua:6:
attempt to call a nil value (global 'export_and_reimport_callback')
stack traceback:
[C]: in global 'export_and_reimport_callback'
/home/patte/.config/darktable/lua/gimp.lua:6: in function

and:

24,546306 LUA ERROR : attempt to yield from outside a coroutine
stack traceback:
[C]: in ?
[C]: in function 'coroutine.yield'
/home/patte/.config/darktable/lua/gimp.lua:10: in upvalue 'callGimp'
/home/patte/.config/darktable/lua/gimp.lua:14: in function

This I don't understand... is there a bug in the gimp.lua file I found?
Is something wrong in my config? I don't know!

As I said the task is not easy... Is there somewhere some clear
explanations on how to use lua scripts in darktable? Where to find the
scripts? What are they useful for? How to install them? What are the
dependencies? etc.

I read the darktable page on the site for lua scripts, but it is not
clear enough for me and, as often, you can find explanations to do
sophisticated operations but not simple ones...

Thank you for helping.

You are lucky! I have only
${gimp_plug_in_dir}/plug-ins/file-raw-placeholder and no way to add the
other

file-darktable is among the plug-ins coming with gimp flatpak but if it
can be used, the config process is mysterious!

Gimp cannot open raw files, so dt is called like a plugin in gimp which
at the end of the raw process opens the exported file from dt and you
can finish your work on the photo with it.

I did not see how you can call gimp from darktable.

[darktable-user] opencl problems

2018-04-24 Thread François Patte
Bonjour,

How to debug opencl? Sometimes, darktable displays a message: "DT has
encounter a problem with opencl which will be disabled for this session".

What is the problem? I don't know: where can I find some clue?

In fact, it is not only disabled for the open session: if I close
darktable and reopen it, opencl is still disabled.

What can I do?

Thank you.

That's what I thought, but it is not the case for this module unless (I
just found that trick) you deactivate the lines (blue, red, yellow...)

Linux (fedora 27) and darktable v 2.4.0 compiled on board.

I just got the 2.4.2 version and compiled and installed it right now.
The perpective module works correctly for this version.

A single wide screen is not a solution:
1- If you want a (very) high resolution, the tools become (very) very
small and it is difficult to grab the small sliders for instance.
Moreover, I am not a photography professional, and I need to use my
computer for other purposes and a high resolution makes texts difficult
to read. Zooming or modifying the resolution is not a good solution.

2- With darktable, as it is, if you have the 3 panels surrounding the
photo you are working on, you have to often zoom when you want to see
some details, and while you do this, you cannot see how your
modifications on a zone affect the entire photo. Working with the photo
on a screen, (without anything else around it) is very confortable: see
gimp for instance.

Thank you for these suggestions. I could enable openCL using the nvidia
driver for it seems that the nouveau driver does not support openCL (yet?).

I had to fix the opencl_memory_requirement to 500 (it was set by default
at 768 !?) for my card is a GeForce 8800 GT with 512M memory.

Thank you.

Following my last answer, I disabled the in integrated video card in the
bios, but the message is still there.

Will it be some damage in the treatment of photos? And, if yes, what can
I do?

Thank you.

Yes I have an integrated intel video card and an nvidia one; I use
nvidia on two monitors and the intel one on a third monitor.

No, I do not try to use opencl (I don't know how to do this) and no I
don't try to use beignet (I ignore what it is!).
Maybe this is done without my knowledge... How can I test and suppress
this behavior?

Thank you

[darktable-user] compilation of darktable 2.4.0 fails on fedora 27

2018-01-13 Thread François Patte
Bonjour,

I tried to compile darktable on fedora 27 (I had no problem on fedora 25
or 26) and it fails with this message:

CMake Error at
/usr/share/cmake/Modules/FindPackageHandleStandardArgs.cmake:137 (message):
Could NOT find LibXml2 (missing: LIBXML2_LIBRARY) (found suitable version
  "2.9.4", minimum required is "2.6")

What can do? libxml2 and libxml2-devel are installed.

Thank you fpr helping

[darktable-user] darktable and gimp 2.9

2018-01-04 Thread François Patte
Bonjour,

I just tried to experiment gimp 2.9 (development version): openning a
raw file opens darktable and once you have finish to treat your photo in
darktable, closing darktable imports the photo in gimp... Ok.

But the result I had was awful: the image is to bright, without contrast
and the saturation is bad... A part of the treatment done in darktable
is to be done again

Does someone experienced the same problem?

Thank you.

Yes, in the exported image the corrections are made. But it is quite
frustrating to not see the corrections in darktable: it is like a step
is missing in the workflow.

Thank you.

Bonjour,

I try to verify my download of darktable-2.0.7 with gpg.

I downloaded thez .asc file together the xz file. But I can't import the
.asc in my keyring: "no public key found" is the answer to

gpg2 --import darktable*.asc

same answer with

gpg2 --verify

What to do?

Thank you.
