Re: [darktable-user] Black point compensation when printing

2023-12-13 Thread Victor
Thanks for the quick reply. As a matter of fact I can find  reference to
the 'black point compensation' in those pages when I want to print a
file to my own printer BUT not when I export the file to be printed to
an external lab of which  I don't know what brand of printer they use.

[darktable-user] How To View My Photo At Actual Print Size in DT

2022-11-21 Thread Victor
I know that in photoshop you can view your photos at actual print size
via the view menu item "Actual Size" which, in a nutshell, considers
both the size of your print and the resolution of your monitor.

Is there any way to do the same in Darktable?

If yes, how?

[darktable-user] Permanently moving a preset diffuse or sharpen module before input color profile in the pixelpipe

2022-04-30 Thread Victor
Under ubuntu 20.04 I happily use darktable 3.8.1 - scene referred to
develop the  raw filesof my sony a6600.

I created a preset diffuse or sharpen module for sharpening sensor
demosaicing to be applied by default to any raw image.

My problem is that according to the manual:

'
recover the original image from sensors with an anti-aliasing filter or
mitigate the blur created by most demosaicing
algorithms (use thesharpen sensor demosaicingpreset and move the module
before theinput color profilemodule in

the pipeline),.'

I do this operation manually moving the diffuse or sharpen module before
the input color profile module in the pixelpipe on each image. Very time
consuming indeed!!!

Is there any way to move the diffuse or sharpen module automagically in
the pixelpipe before the input color profile?

[darktable-user] Rawtherapee seems to be sharper than Darktable, doesn't it?

2021-02-02 Thread Victor
I developed a raw image (DSC00662.ARW) taken with my sony a6600 with
both DT and RT using minimal intervention (see attached DT xmp file and
RT pp3 file). As you can see from the details I enclosed in this message
the RT resulting image looks by far better in terms of sharpness with
respect to the  DT one.

Why is that and is there anything I can do to improve DT performance as
far as sharpness is concerned?

Running darktable-chart from a terminal I was able to solve the problem.

darktable-chart complained that in the original cie file was presente
the string 'SAMPLE_LOC' instead of the required 'SAMPLE_ID'. Therefore I
changed 'SAMPLE_LOC' into

'SAMPLE_ID' in ColorCheckerPassport.cie and voilà the problem was solved!

Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi Vittorio, try running darktable-chart from a terminal as this should
provide some error information.

I mean that when I try to load the ColorCheckerPassport.cie file nothing
happens, the file is not loaded at all. As a consequence I cannot go on

[darktable-user] Darktable versioning is a mistery to me

2019-12-28 Thread Victor
On my linux box (Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic), after having used the official
package DT 2.6.2 from the ubuntu repository for a while, I recently
installed DT 2.6.3~git2.22c690a53 from a deb package I had found in the
net. Now I read that there is also a stable DT version 3.0.0 available
from sources (that, by the way, in spite of some glitches due to
dependencies, I've been able to compile and use under a dedicated test
user) and a 3.2.0 is under way. I confess that I'm completely confused
by the versioning system of DT.

1-Could someone of you clarify this point to me (or point me to some
article explaining it to me)?

2-Being a 'quiet man', not loving the 'bleeding edges' as far as
programs are concerned, what is your suggested version I should stick to?

[darktable-user] Modifying an intermediate module

2019-10-02 Thread Victor
I wonder how it is possible to modify a parameter in an already opened
and intermediate module.

To clarify my problem this is an example. Let's suppose that my
(cropped) stack is as follows

10 -  Denoise (profiled) 3

09 - Denoise (profiled) 2

08 - Denoise (profiled) 1

07 - Denoise (profiled)

...

...

If I try to modify a parameter, say, "opacity" in 08 - Denoise
(profiled) 1 modules 09 and 10 disappear and I have to rebuild them again.

Is there a way to avoid this?

Thank you

[darktable-user] Unable to disable base curve module when opening new photos

2019-06-20 Thread Victor

Context: Linux Ubuntu 18.04, Darktable 2.6.2

In configuration -> Core options I deselected "auto-apply per camera
basecurve presets".

Nonetheless when I select a new folder of raw pictures I find the module
activated invariably in each image in darkroom.

The same happens when in lighttable I discard the history stacks from
selected pictures and reopen one of them in darkroom. That base curve
module is always there.

Why is that and how can I avoid this automatic behavior of darktable?
