Re: [darktable-user] A Slideshow maker

2019-09-21 Thread Ricardo Kozmate.Net
I may be wrong, I am only looking into the file created by Impress
but... no it doesn't...?

Impress does not create a video - in the sense that it is a sequence of
frames displayd at fixed time intervals, e.g. 25 frames / second - it
stores text, images, sounds, which gets arranged in a certain way (a
slide), and is played on timings set per slide (and even within each
slide) or on user command.

As far as I can see, Impress does not compress or resample, it stores
the original data, using lossless compression. (It is a 'zipped' XML
file - PowerPoint is likely in the same format but I do not have it at home)

Anyway, this is not about DT, as it seems.

Doesn't a "regular" slideshow editor does what you need?

You need to be a bit more specific about your exact needs to get a clear
answer.
- Do you just want to play music and slides? Then start your favorite music
player, let it play some playlist, background it and start DTs or any other
slide show.
- Do you want sound and slides to be synced? You could just record your
sound/music into an MP3 track and then follow the above
- Do you want to create a single file containing sound and image; something
like a pps/ Then you'd need the respective player to play it back. A video
player supporting MP4 would be a common choice ;-)

Not specifically a slideshow program, but used it for a slideshow and it
met my requirements. It also seems to be possible to embed audio as
background music, but I haven't used it yet.

Do you want a program converting your pictures to a video file (e.g. mp4 / playback on any device) or a program to show pictures?

For 2nd option:

Simple solution would be a picure browser, e.g. xnview, irfanview.

There are professional tools which are specialized for this purpose including sync to music, e.g. AquaSoft DiaShow.

If I check my favourite download page, they list currently 118 for "Slideshow":

I can see 4K Slideshow Maker claiming to be specifically for slideshow
but haven't used it. What I do however is simply exporting the files to
full resolution but bigger compression (60-80% quality) and then display
them with Geeqie when on linux or share them over dlna (minidlna in my
case) and use the TV photo program. The TV (LG) allows both slideshow
and music to run at the same time. The bigger compression gives smaller
file that does not stress the TV too much. At the same time the full res
(20 megapixel for me) is sufficient for 4k display.

I have never heard about a slideshow specific (standard) format that
would display jpg and hold it on the screen then advance to the next jpg.

Hope this helps,

B
