Of course we can't give any guarantees. But I can tell you that the Windows
packages are made in a VM only used for these things and not for surfing the
Web. So I am quite confident that no viruses have found their way to it.
I also upload the installers to Virustotal and never got any detection reports
there.

However, you are not the first one telling us about Avast flagging that very
file:
https://discuss.pixls.us/t/darktable-for-windows/4966/354

Maybe the old saying that antivir is snake oil is right in the end?

RE: [darktable-user] FW: Confirm subscription to darktable-user@lists.darktable.org

2018-01-01 Thread Frank
Hi Patrick,

I have manually deleted the file from the virus chest in Avast, as well as
all reference to where I had installed on the D: drive.

Re-downloaded the Darktable install file, updated again the Avast program,
engine and virus definitions.

I have now tried re-installing to a different location with a different
name.

As I initially used d:\Program Files\Darktable 2.4.0\to which I have
changed to d:\Program Files\Darktable\

Funnily enough the "error opening file..." Dialog box has disappeared and
now the program fully installs without error.

Maybe Avast has rectified something in their virus definitions but even with
a file, directory and whole PC virus scan

No errors or virus signature comes up.

I have seen nothing else in the forums either, so, obviously it's something
with me.

With no errors and no virus, I guess it's very safe to say that it must have
been a false positive.

I am sorry to trouble you, and thanks for the advice.

Regards,

Frank

Hello Patrick.

Thank you for helping me.

I went to this URL: https://www.darktable.org/install/and chose of
course the Microsoft Windows option.

There is no checksum that I could see from this URL. Have I missed it
somewhere?

The file location is listed below:

https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/releases/download/release-2.4.0/d
arktable-2.4.0-win64.exe

After executing the install near the end my Avast popped up a dialog box
with the error code / virus as listed below.

I had found something in another forum:

"Thank you for letting us know the status. IDP generic means that the
detection was detected by an Identity Protection

detection component and it is a generalized file that got detected. This can
either be a false positive as well which

happened due to an out dated definitions and got fixed after updating AVG."

I had initially thought it might have been a false positive, and so just
required clarification.

I have re-downloaded Darktable and have tried to re-install (after
uninstalling previous one) but with the following error:

Thanks.

Kind Regards,

Frank

I assume by "PC" you refer to darktable v2.4.0 for "windows" ???

if you downloaded from " <https://www.darktable.org/install/#windows>
https://www.darktable.org/install/#windows;, I

would say your antivirus is wrong, but I don't know what " IDP.Generic

" virus is. I guess you will have to make a decision. Other people are

was there a file signature or checksum included? did you check it?

The checksum (".asc") files are listed alongside the packages here:

 https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/releases/

If AVG provides a method for reporting these kinds of (presumed) false
positives, that would be a good thing to do, potentially saving others from a
similar experience.

2018-01-01 Thread Frank
Hi guys,

I would like to have something clarified please, in regards to having just
installed the 64bit Darktable v2.4.0 for PC.

My AVAST antivirus program had placed the file: libgio-2.0-0.dll into the Virus
chest as it was detected as having the " IDP.Generic " virus.

Please confirm status or advise further.

Thank you.

Regards,
Frank
