Yes, it does. One CPU core is 99% loaded all the time until operation

Re: [darktable-user] Darkrtable segfaults on start

2018-04-22 Thread dt-list
Actually, I guess this must have something to do with thumbnail
creation. I can easily trigger the crash with

$ rm -rf ~/.cache/darktable

and then scrolling up throught the photo collection. Now darktable
always crashes immediately when I start it. I have attached a ggb
backtrace of this.

If too many threads get started as Johannes suggests, then maybe the
scheduling logic is broken?

Anything else I can try?

I just found out that it is camera specific and not date specific. The creator
is always set for my Canon 6D. But not so for Canon 20D, Fuji X100 and Canon
G9X II.

The Fuji and the G9X get a blank creator, while the Canon 20D gets "unknown"
creator. And this is true for several years now. But since I mostly take
pictures with my 6D I never realized it.

Whats going wrong?

[darktable-user] exFAT-Filesystem on SDXC-card supported?

2018-04-22 Thread Frank J.

Hallo,
is the exFAT-Filesystem supported by darktable?

In the past I used SD-Cards up to 16 GB which are formatted whith a
FAT-filesystem. My new card is a SDXC-card with 64 GB space. My camera
(Olympus) formatted the card with an exFAT-filesystem.

On the first import linux (Ubuntu 16.04) and Darktable (2.4.2) can't
read this filesystem.
After installing "exfat-fuse" and "exfat-utils" linux can read the
exfat-filesystem.

But darktable still shows in the import-tab:
  "no supported devices found"

I copied the RAW-files to a folder and imported the folder into darktable.
An import directly from the card with move to a folder is not possible.

2018-04-22 Thread johannes hanika
heya,

worker_threads=8 does sound high. i'm using 2 here. note that all
image processing is parallelised to all cores independently of this
setting. this is just for slight overscheduling of different tasks, to
hide the few bits of scalar code between the parallel sections. i.e.
on a 16-thread machine (maybe hyperthreaded 8-core), you'd get
something like 2x16=32 threads with two worker threads, plus the gui
thread. i'd try reducing this setting.

cheers,

[darktable-user] Access on photo database from multiple computers

2018-04-22 Thread georg.troska
Hi,

I’m trying to find a concept how to use darktable from two computers
simultanously.

I learned from google, that one can either sync the library.db file or use one
one common.

I decided to use one common library.db.

So far I havn’t tried to use a second PC.

My questions:

* There is a lock file, when I’m trying to open two instances of dt on
the same PC. Isn’t this a problem for my case?
* There is a second db-file. Seems I cannot relocate it. At least I
cannot set a path on it. What’s its content?

Thanks

Georg

BTW: I’ve been using dt now for alomost one year on linux, but have moved to
windows 10 now, since my ubuntu died ☹

Assuming your system is auto-mounting the card reader or camera, did you try
pointing darktable to the mount point? The fuse module is a little different
from actual low-level OS support for the filesystem.

I did a full test for a Canon 6D picture (IMG_6691.CR2) and a Canon G9XII
picture (IMG_0627.CR2). I removed the pictures from the database and deleted
the XMP file. Then I ran "darktable -d all" and imported the pictures again.
The result is that the 6D XMP file contains

 M. Bodenbinder

while the G9XII XMP has no such entry.

I can not see any issues in the log files. I attached the logs and the xmp
files to this email. I hope somebody can shed some light on this.

Generally my system is very stable, even under heavy load. I do not
see crashes other than the one related to darktable, and that one is
limited in its effect to darktabel.

E.g., *compiling* darkrtable may rise temperature to 49℃, without any
issues in stability. On the other hand, when darkrtable segfaults as
described, temperature stays well below 36℃.

Also, when the problem occurs, the system is not actually under heavy
load! There is no slow down in interaction (e.g., sticky mouse
pointer) nor other signs of overload as I sometimes see on my old
netbook when firefox opens too many tabs...

Anyways, I'll run a memtest and report on that later...
