Re: [Debconf-discuss] Cycling on the weekend of Aug 5?
To clarify further (you posted the same link twice ;-) ), I meant the St jean ride: https://www.strava.com/activities/436393533 It is fine gravel after Chambly. I did that regularly with 23mm tires, no problems with my road bike. Wider tires will bring you comfort as for any road but I don't remember it being uncomfortable. I ride 28's now but it is for the MTL potholes more than for the gravel :-) For the around the lake ride ( https://www.strava.com/activities/435890583 ), it is asphalt all the way IIRC. Anyone want to join me on Sunday for the Saint Jean sur Richelieu ride? Lucas mentioned turning this into a day trip. Re: [Debconf-discuss] Cycling on the weekend of Aug 5?
I set up a couple of shorter routes in graphhopper, one for Lafontaine park and one for Ile Ste. Helene. Again, I do not know if there is construction on these roads ... or if the destinations are no longer nice. But they used to be fabulous places for picnics - I'm hoping they still are. Conference venue to Lafontaine Park: https://graphhopper.com/maps/?point=45.550812%2C-73.554111=45.525172%2C-73.57132=en-US=bike=fastest=true_miles=false=Omniscale Conference venue to Ile Ste. Helene (brings you right past Habitat). I had to tweak graphhopper to make the route go where I expected (did not want to have to go on Jacques Cartier bridge). https://graphhopper.com/maps/?point=45.550662%2C-73.553724=45.509114%2C-73.550463=45.497383%2C-73.552694=45.515008%2C-73.53467=en-US=bike=fastest=true_miles=false=Omniscale Hmm, according to this page there will be construction on Ile Ste. Helene all summer. http://www.parcjeandrapeau.com/en/aquatic-complex-pool-swimming-competitions-montreal/ Rats. There is a beach on the other island though ... plage Jean Dore. http://www.parcjeandrapeau.com/en/jean-dore-beach-sand-swimming-sun-montreal/ For those who do not want to cycle there, the metro yellow line goes to Ile Ste. Hi, I might join too. I would need to rent a road bike. I'm arriving on saturday so won't be available that day. Btw, it's too bad that Parc Jean Drapeau is closed to cycling during DebConf. That would have been fun. http://www.parcjeandrapeau.com/en/circuit-gilles-villeneuve-montreal/ Lucas On 28/07/17 at 08:02 +, Karol Ossowski wrote: >Hi all, >I would like to join too. Re: [Debconf-discuss] Cycling on the weekend of Aug 5?
For 100km I would suggest going around the Chambly Lake https://www.strava.com/activities/435890583 Plenty of bicycles going around the lake. Alternatively, following the same route, you can go to St Jean sur Richelieu: https://www.strava.com/activities/436393533 (trace is only one way) Perhaps a bit nicer, less road and more cycleway. Both routes go to Chambly, which is a nice stop (at 30 or 70km) to get a Unibroue beer Shorter route, goes up to Verchères, mostly if not completly cycleway https://www.strava.com/activities/622440952 Another short route that goes through the estacade on the Saint Laurent: https://www.strava.com/activities/436397658 I can show the way -- Jean-Baptiste PERRIER On Thu, Jul 27, 2017 at 4:30 PM, Eric Evanswrote: > > Hi, > > I've been thinking I might bring my gear, rent a proper road bike > (https://mybicyclette.ca/high-performance-road-bike maybe?) and go for > a longish ride on Saturday or Sunday (~100km). > > Anyone interested in joining me? > > Anyone locals have recommendations for a places to rent from, or > interesting routes? > > Cheers, > > -- > Eric Evans > eev...@sym-link.com > ___ > Debconf-discuss mailing list > Debconf-discuss@lists.debconf.org > http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-discuss > ___ Debconf-discuss mailing list Debconf-discuss@lists.debconf.org http://lists.debconf.org/mailman/listinfo/debconf-discuss
Re: [Debconf-discuss] Cycling on the weekend of Aug 5?
I would join you if I had time, but I can recommend the path to Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu going through Chambly. Once you are out of the city the path is quite nice and you can stop at Chambly for some sight-seeing. The fort there is one of the oldest in North America. If you want to stop and eat something, I also recommend the fish and chips at Capitaine Pouf at Saint-Jean. Half of the path (from Chambly to Saint-Jean) is very fine gravel though, so I would recommend something less aggressive and with tires larger than 25 if you want to be comfortable. That part is very nice though since you ride on the side of Canal de Chambly.
