FWIW, I got a report in private ealier today saying that an installation of unstable failed at chroot /target mount -t proc proc /proc. So I guess it applies to both testing and usntable but the bug just doesn't happen all the time. I wonder if that reporter was actually installing unstable, or if they were just using a version of d-i built from unstable and didn't realise that it defaults to installing testing? Anyway, I analysed the bug as it affects testing. The problem is somewhere in mount's code to create /etc/mtab if it doesn't exist; you can reproduce it on tty2 after the failure by running 'rm /target/etc/mtab; chroot /target mount -t proc proc /proc'. It appears that it spots the UUID entry for / in /etc/fstab and gets confused somewhere along the way while trying to look up the referent of that UUID. unstable's mount does not appear to suffer from the same issue, and in fact when I tried to track down why I found this essentially identical bug report, which is fixed in unstable: http://bugs.debian.org/488312 util-linux is one day away from being able to migrate to testing given an RM ack, so let's just wait for that. -- Colin Watson [cjwat...@debian.org] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-boot-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. [PATCH] use drivemap and UUIDs in grub-installer
Changelog: [ Felix Zielcke ] * Change the debhelper compat level to 7 and bump the build dependecy. * Replace deprecated `dh_clean -k' with `dh_prep'. * Remove the lintian overrides, they're no longer needed. * Add drivemap in the grub2 generated menuentry for grub2 for Dos/Windows. * Use UUIDs in the generated menuentrys for grub2. drivemap is similar to grub-legacy's map command. Don't wonder that I used 1.96+20090608-1 in the dpkg version comparison. It doestn't exist yet in Debian. Current sid version supports drivemap but doestn't understand partitions instead of drives. hint cryptsetup/2:1.0.6+20090405.svn49-1 for debian/squeeze
[resent with debian-boot cc'ed] hey, cryptsetup/2:1.0.6+20090405.svn49-1 has been in unstable for 59 days now without migrating to testing. I guess that this is due to the udeb it creates. It would be great if you could hint it for migration to testing/squeeze. here's the relevant changelog: cryptsetup (2:1.0.6+20090405.svn49-1) unstable; urgency=low * New upstream svn snapshot. Highlights include: - Uses remapping to error target instead of calling udevsettle for temporary crypt device. (closes: #514729, #498964, #521547) - Removes lots of autoconf stuff as it's generated by autogen.sh anyway. - Uses autopoint in build process, thus needs to Build-Depend on cvs. - Fixes signal handler to proper close device. - Wipes start of device before LUKS-formatting. - Allows deletion of key slot with it's own key. (closes: #513596) - Checks device mapper communication and gives proper error message in case the communication fails. (closes: #507727) * Update debian patches accordingly: - Remove obsolete patches 01_gettext_package and 03_check_for_root - Update patch 02_manpage * Add missing newlines to some error messages in passdev.c. Thanks to Christoph Anton Mitterer for bugreport and patch. (closes: #509067) * Move keyscripts in initramfs from /keyscripts to /lib/cryptsetup/scripts for the sake of consistency between initramfs and normal system. Document this change in NEWS.Debian. (closes: #509066) * Fix $LOUD in cryptdisks.init and cryptdisks.functions to take effect. Add LOUD=yes to cryptdisks_start. (closes: #513149) * cryptdisks_{start,stop}: print error message if no entry is found in crypttab for the given name. * Actually fix watchfile to work with code.google.com. * Update Homepage field to code.google.com URL. (closes: #516236) * Fix location of ltmain.sh, build-depend on versioned libtool. (closes: #521673, #522338) * Some minor changes to make lintian happy: - use set -e instead of /bin/sh -e in preinst. - link to GPL v2 in debian/copyright * Bump standards-version to 3.8.1, no changes needed. * Fix a typo in NEWS.Debian. (closes: #522387) * Taken from ubuntu: - debian/checks/un_vol_id: dynamically build the unknown volume type string, to allow for encrypted swap, (closes: #521789, #521469). Quoting Frans Pop (elen...@planet.nl): On Monday 01 June 2009, Christian Perrier wrote: To be even more efficient, I wonder if there's a possibility to download list archives as a mailbox. Disadvantage is that this archive will still have all spam that's already been removed... I'm sticking with the web interface myself. Yesterday, I grabbed several such mailboxes. Before working on them, I passed the messages through CRM114, which I already use for a while to set scores on my incoming messages: zcat debian-boot.200608.gz | formail -s /usr/bin/crm -u /home/bubulle/.crm114/ mailfilter.crm debian-boot.200608.scored That creates a new scored mailbox where messages have additionnal headers, including: X-CRM114-Status: Good ( pR: 161.9126 ) or X-CRM114-Status: UNSURE (1.1278) This message is 'unsure'; please train it! or X-CRM114-Status: SPAM ( pR: -15.1978 ) In my .muttrc, I have this: color header white black ^X-CRM114-Status:.*Good.* color header blue black ^X-CRM114-Status:.*SPAM.* color header red black ^X-CRM114-Status:.*UNSURE.* Then I read this mailbox with mutt. unsure messages appear in cyan and sure spams appear in red. Then, I can tag messages ('T' in mutt's default keymapping) easily by using the colors as a helper (of course I *do* check for false positives) and also go through messages identified as non spam.and tag those that are actually spam. Then, all these tagged messages are piped to my report list spam macroand also identified as spam to CRM114 (pipe them to $HOME/.crm114/mailfilter.crm -u $HOME/.crm114/ ss-pam --force Then, all good messages are identified as ham to CRM114. As a conclusion, I found this method quite more efficient than using the web interfaceand, of course, it allows working offline, which is a must-have for me. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Switch to udhcpc in netcfg
Hi Attached is a first try to support udhcpc in netcfg. I opted for dropping support for pump and the ISC dhcp client, though that could be reverted if really wanted. I don't know how DHCP_OPTION_LEN for udhcpc can be found, so I did not touch it for now. Note that I did not test my patch yet except for compilation errors. Please do test it and come back to me, any feedback appreciated! Bug#532387: ssh access available
I installed ssh on the box, via apt-get. It all seems to work fine when I login as root in maintenance mode, when booted single-user. If an expert cares to look at the box live, I can provide access. Hello Luk, On Mon, Jun 8, 2009 at 6:17 PM, Luk Claesl...@debian.org wrote: Attached is a first try to support udhcpc in netcfg. Thank you very much by working on it. I opted for dropping support for pump and the ISC dhcp client, though that could be reverted if really wanted. I'd much prefer to have as an extra option in this moment, instead of droping them. It makes the diff easier to be reviewed and also allow us to have them as fallback in case we find any serious regression and also allows for easier testing. A small thing I've noticed is that you've not kept the code using same coding style it had. Please split the structure initializators and try to leave the coding style as near as possible from current one. Again, thanks a lot about looking at it. Don't take this as a critic but more as a small set of suggestions to avoid problems and allow us to improve it as fast as possible. Cheers, -- Otavio Salvador O.S. Those bugs were fixed in 0.140, but due to #525209 0.141 is desirable. I'm not sure if it's realistic at all (though the changes are just bugfixes and translation updates), but it would be good to have an answer, so either Debian Edu can use unmodified d-i or we have to fix it ourselves, which would mean branching d-i and a whole lot of more work (for the years to come). I have no problem in prepare that fix for it however it needs a full d-i update to happen. If RM team is OK with it I can take a look at it and prepare the packages during this week. If d-i does respin, it would be cool if we could include an updated lkdi-s390, which would make the fix for #511334 available at install time. As coordinated on IRC, it's fine to include the cdebconf and above linux fix as well as the d-i respin as long as it is all uploaded, reviewed and accepted at least one week before the actual point release. Otavio already started to work on cdebconf in the meantime and Dann will work on the kernel and upload soon.
